¹³ For Iuda haue I bent out as a bowe for me, and Ephraim haue I fylled Thy sonnes (O Sion) will I rase vp againste the Grekes, & make the as a giauntes swearde:

³² It is God that gyrded me with strength, and made my way vncorrupt. ³³ He hathe made my fete lyke hertes fete, and set me vpon hye. ³⁴ He teacheth myne handes to fyght, & maketh myne armes to breake euen a bowe of stele. ³⁵ Thou haste geuen me the defence of thy healthe, thy ryghte hande vpholdeth me, and thy louynge correctyon maketh me greate.

³ Gyrde the with thy swerde vpon thy thyghe (O thou mightye) with worshippe and renowne.

² Hye & lowe, & rych & poore, one wyth another. ³ My mouth shall speake of wysdome, and my hert shall muse of vnderstandynge. ⁴ I will enclyne myne eare to the parable, and shewe my darke speach vpon the harpe. ⁵ Wherfore should I feare the euel dayes, when the wickednesse of my heles compaseth me rounde aboute? ⁶ They that put their trust in their good, & boast theym selfes in the multitude of theyr ryches. ⁷ No man may deliuer his brother, nor make agrement vnto hym for God. ⁸ For it costeth more to redeme their soules so that he must let that alone for euer. ⁹ Yea, though he liue longe, and se not the graue.

¹ Of Dauid. Blessed be the Lorde my refuge which teacheth my handes to warre, and my fyngers too fyght.

⁶ Let the prayses of God be in their mouth and sharpe swerdes in their handes.

¹⁵ Beholde, I will make the a treadyng cart & a new flayle, that thou mayest thresshe and grynd the mountaynes, and brynge the hylles to poulder. ¹⁶ Thou shalt fanne them, & the wynde shall carye them awaye, and the whyrlwynde shall scater them. But thou shalt reioyse in the Lorde, and shalt delyte in praysinge the holy one of Israel.

² he hath made my mouth like a sharp swerd vnder the shadowe of hys hande hath he defended me, & hyd me in hys quyuer, as a good arowe,

²⁰ Thou breakest my weapens of warre, and yet thorowe the I haue scatered the nacyons & kyngdomes:

² Beth. The chyldren of Syon that were alwaye in honoure, & clothed with the most precious golde: how are they now becomme lyke the erthen vessels whych be made wyth the potters hande,

²¹ but the goate is the king of the Greke lande: the greate horne that stode betwyxte his eyes, that is the pryncypall kynge. ²² But where as it brake, and foure other rose vp in the steade: it sygnifyeth, that out of thys people shall stande vp four kyngdomes, but not so mighty as it. ²³ After these kyngedomes (whyle vngodlynes is a growynge) there shall aryse a kynge of an vnshamefast face, whiche shalbe wyse in darcke speakinges. ²⁴ He shalbe myghty and stronge, but not in his owne strength. He shall destroye aboue measure, and all that he goeth aboute shall prospere: he shall slaye the stronge and holye people. ²⁵ And thorowe his craftynes, falshed shall prospere in his hande, hys herte shalbe proude, and many one shall be put to deathe in his welthinesse. He shall stand vp against the Prince of Princes, but he shalbe destroyed wythoute hande.

³² And suche as breake the couenaunt shal he flattre wyth fayre wordes. But the people that wyll know their God, shal haue the ouerhand, and prospere. ³³ Those also that haue vnderstandyng among the people shall enfourme the multitude: and for a long season, they shalbe persecuted with swerde, with fyre, with captyuyte and with the takinge awaye of their goodes. ³⁴ Nowe when they fall they shalbe set vp with a litle helpe: but many shall clene vnto them faynedly.

⁶ The children also of Iuda and Ierusalem haue ye solde vnto the Grekes, that ye myght brynge them farre from the borders of theyr owne countrees. ⁷ Beholde therfore, I wyll rayse them oute of the place, where ye haue solde them, & wyl rewarde you euen vpon youre heade. ⁸ Youre sonnes & your doughters wyll I sell thorowe the handes of the chyldren of Iuda, & so they shal geue them forth to sel, vnto them of Saba, a people of a farre countre, for the Lorde hym selfe hath sayde it.

¹¹ I raysed vp prophetes amonge your children, and absteyners among youre younge men. Is it not so. O ye chyldren of Israel, sayeth the Lorde?

²¹ Thus they that escape vpon the hyll of Syon, shall go vp to punysh the mount of Esau and the kyngdome shallbe the Lordes.

² and the multitude of the Gentyles shall haste them thyther, sayeng: Come lett vs go vp to the hyll of the Lorde, and to the house of the God of Iacob: that he maye teach vs hys wayes, & that we maye walke in hys parthes. For the lawe shall come out of Sion, and the worde of God from Ierusalem, ³ and shall geue sentence amonge the multytude of the Heathen and refourme the people of farre countrees: so that of their sweardes they shall make plowshares, and sythes of their speares. One people shall not lyft vp a swearde agaynst another, yee they shal nomore learne to fyght:

⁴ He shall stande fast, and geue fode in the strength of the Lorde, and in the vyctorye of the name of the Lorde hys God: and when they be conuerted, he shal be magnifyed vnto the farthest partes of the worlde. ⁵ Then shall there be peace, so that the Assirian maye come in to oure lande, and treade in oure houses. We shall brynge vp seuen shepherdes and .viij. prynces vpon them: ⁶ these shall subdue the lande of Assur wyth the swerde, and the lande of Nymrod wyth their naked weapens. Thus shall he delyuer vs from the Assirian, when he commeth within oure lande, & setteth hys fote wythin oure borders. ⁷ And the remnaunt of Iacob shalbe amonge the multytude of people, as the dewe of the Lorde, and as the droppes vpon the grasse, that tarieth for no man, & wayteth of no body. ⁸ Yee the resydue of Iacob shalbe amonge the Gentyles and the multitude of people, as the lyon amonge the beastes of the wod, and as the Lyons whelpe amonge a flocke of shepe: whyche (when he goeth thorowe) treadeth downe, teareth in peces, and there is no man that can helpe. ⁹ Thyne hande shalbe lyft vp vpon thyne enemyes, and all thyne aduersaries shall perish.

²¹ Then sayde I: what wyll these do? He aunswered, and said: Those are the hornes, which haue so strowed Iuda abroade, that no man durste lyft vp his head: But these are come to fraye them away and to caste oute the hornes of the Gentyles, whiche lyfte vp theyr horne ouer the lande of Iuda, to scatre it abroade.

³ My wrothfull displeasure is moued at the sheperdes, & I will vpset the goates. For the Lord of hostes wil graciously viset his flocke, the house of Iuda, and hold them as a goodlye fayre horse in the battell. ⁴ Out of Iuda shall come the helmet, the nale, the battelbowe, and all the princes together. ⁵ They shalbe as the giauntes, whiche in the batell tread doune the myre vpon the stretes. They shal fight, for the Lorde shalbe wyth them, so that the horsemen shalbe confounded. ⁶ I will comforth the house of Iuda, and preserue the house of Ioseph. I wil turne them also, for I pitie them: & they shalbe lyke as they were, when I had not cast them of. For I the Lord am their God, and wil hear them. ⁷ Ephraim shalbe as a gyaunt, and their hert shalbe chereful as thorow wine: yea, their children shall se it, & be glad, & their herte shall reioyce in the Lord.

² Beholde I will make Ierusalem a cuppe of surfet, vnto al the people that are round aboute her: Yea, Iuda him self also shalbe in the sege agaynste Ierusalem. ³ At the same tyme wil I make Ierusalem, an heauye stone for al people, so that al such as lift it vp shalbe toarne & rente, & all the people of the earth shalbe gathered together against it. ⁴ In that day, sayeth the Lorde, I will make all horses abashed, & those that ryde vpon them to be out of their wittes. I wyll open myne eyes vpon the house of Iuda, & smite all the horses of the people with blindnesse. ⁵ And the princes of Iuda shal say in their hertes. The inhabiters of Ierusalem shal geue me consolacion in the Lord of hostes their God. ⁶ In that tyme will I make the princes of Iuda lyke an hote burninge ouen with wood, & lyke a cresset of fyre among the strawe, so that they shal consume al the people rounde about them, both vpon the right hand and the left. Ierusalem also shalbe inhabited agayne: namely, in the same place, where Ierusalem standeth. ⁷ The Lorde shal preserue the tentes of Iuda like as afore time: so that the glorye of the house of Dauid, & the glory of the citesins of Ierusalem, shalbe but litle regarded, in comparison of the glory of Iuda. ⁸ In that day shal the Lord defende the citesins of Ierusalem: so that the weakest then amonge them shalbe as Dauid: & the house of Dauid shalbe lyke as Gods house, and as the Angel of the Lorde before them.

¹⁵ And he sayed to them: Go ye into all the worlde, and preache the glad tydynges to all creatures, ¹⁶ he that beleueth & is baptised, shall be saued. But he that beleueth not, shalbe damned. ¹⁷ And these sygnes shall folowe them that beleue. In my name they shall caste oute deuils, & shall speake with newe tonges, ¹⁸ & shall kyll serpentes, and yf they drinke any deadly thynge, it shall not hurte them. They shal lay theyr handes on the sycke, and they shal recouer. ¹⁹ So then when the Lorde had spoken vnto them: he was receyued into heauen, and is set doune on the ryght hande of God. ²⁰ And they wente forth and preached euerye where. And the Lorde wrought with them, and confyrmed the word wt miracles that folowed.

¹⁶ that I should be the minister of Iesu Christe amonge the Gentyles, and should minister the glad tydynges of God, that the gentils myghte be an acceptable offerynge, sanctifyed by the holye ghoste. ¹⁷ I haue therfore where of I maye reioyce in Christe Iesu, in those thynges which partayne to God. ¹⁸ For I dare not speake of anye of those thynges whiche Christe hath not wrought by me, to make the gentyls obedient, with worde and dede, ¹⁹ in myghty sygnes and wonders, by the power of the spirite of God: so that from Hierusalem and the coastes rounde about vnto Illiricum, I haue fylled al countreys with the glad tydynges of Christe. ²⁰ So haue I enforced my selfe to preache the Gospell, not where Christe was named, leste I shoulde haue buylt on another mannes foundacyon:

²¹ Hath not God made the wysdome of thys worlde folyshnes? For when the world thorough wysdome knewe not God, in the wisdom of God, it pleased God thorough folishnes of preachynge to saue them that beleue. ²² For the Iewes require a signe, and the Grekes seke after wisdom. ²³ But we preache Christe crucifyed vnto the Iewes an occasion of fallinge, and vnto the Grekes folishnes, ²⁴ but vnto them, whiche are called both of Iewes and Grekes we preache Christe the power of God, and the wisdome of God. ²⁵ For the folyshnes of God is wyser then men, and the weaknes of God is stronger then men. ²⁶ Brethren loke on youre callinge howe that not manye wyse men after the fleshe, not manie myghty, not manye of hye degre are called: ²⁷ but God had chosen the folyshe thynges of the worlde, to confounde the wise. And God hath chosen the weake thinges of the worlde, to confounde thynges, whyche are myghty. ²⁸ And vile thinges of the world, and thinges whiche are despysed, hath God chosen, yea and thinges of no reputation for to bringe to nought thinges of reputation,

³ Neuerthelesse thoughe we walke compassed wt the fleshe, yet we ware not fleshly. ⁴ For the weapens of oure warre are not carnal thynges, but thynges myghtye in God to caste doune stronge holdes, ⁵ wherewith we ouerthrowe Imaginations and euerye hye thynge that exalteth it selfe agaynste the knoweledge of God, and brynge into captiuite all vnderstandynge to the obedience of Christe,

¹⁷ And take the helmet of saluacion and the swerd of the spyrite, which is the word of God.

⁷ I haue fought a good fyght, and haue fulfylled my course, and haue kepte the fayth.

¹² For the word of God is quicke and myghty in operacion, and sharper then anye two edged swerde, and entreth through, euen vnto the diuiding a sonder of the soule and the spirite, and of the ioyntes and the marie, and iudgeth the thoughtes and the ententes of the herte:

¹⁶ And he had in hys ryghthande .vij. starres. And out of his mouth went a sharp two edged sweard. And hys face shone euen as the sonne in hys strength.

¹² And to the messenger of the congregacion in Pergamos wryte: Thys sayth he, whych hath the sharpe sweard, wyth two edges.

¹⁴ These shal fyght wt the lamb, & the lamb shal ouercome them. For he is Lorde of Lordes, & kinge of kinges, & they that are on his syde, are called the chosen and faithful.

¹⁵ & out of hys mouthe went out a sharpe swearde, that with it he should smyte the heathen. And he shal rule them wyth a rod of Iron, & he trode the wine fat of the fiercenes & wrath of almightye God.

²¹ and the remnaunte were slayne with the swerd of him that sate vpon the horse, which swerd proceded out of his mouth & all the foules were fulfilled with their flesh.
