⁴⁹ I have come to throw fire on earth. Would it were kindled already!

³⁹ Some Pharisees in the crowd said to him, "Check your disciples, teacher." ⁴⁰ But he replied, "I tell you, if they were to keep quiet, the very stones would shout."

⁴ While daylight lasts, we must be busy with the work of God: night comes, when no one can do any work.

⁸ "Rabbi," said the disciples, "the Jews were trying to stone you only the other day; are you going back there?" ⁹ Jesus replied, "Are there not twelve hours in the day? If one walks during the day he does not stumble, for he sees the light of this world: ¹⁰ but if one walks during the night he does stumble, for the light is not in him."

¹⁷ Now the people who were with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead, testified to it; ¹⁸ and that was why the crowd went out to meet him, because they heard he had performed this Sign. ¹⁹ Then said the Pharisees to one another, "You see, you can do nothing! Look, the world has gone after him."
