⁷ Then Herod summoned the magicians in secret and ascertained from them the time of the star's appearance.

³ Then the high priests and the elders of the people met in the palace of the high priest who was called Caiaphas ⁴ and took counsel together to get hold of Jesus by craft and have him put to death. ⁵ "Only," they said, "it must not be during the festival, in case of a riot among the people."

¹ And a great portent was seen in heaven, a woman clad in the sun — with the moon under her feet, and a tiara of twelve stars on her head; ² she was with child, crying in the pangs of travail, in anguish for her delivery. ³ Then another portent was seen in heaven! There was a huge red dragon, with seven heads and seven horns and seven diadems upon his heads; ⁴ his tail swept away a third of the stars of heaven and flung them to the earth. And the dragon stood in front of the woman who was on the point of being delivered, to devour her child as soon as it was born. ⁵ She gave birth to a son, a male child, who is to shepherd all the nations with an iron flail; her child was caught up to God and to his throne,
