³ And Jews answered, and said to the Scribes and Pharisees: Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath?

² And when the Pharisees saw them, they said to him: See; thy disciples are doing that which it is not lawful to do on the sabbath.

¹⁰ And a man was there, whose hand was withered. And they questioned him and said, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath? that they might defame him.

³⁵ and one of them, who was expert in the law, to tempt him, inquired:

⁴ And he said also to them: Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath, or to do evil? to give life to a person, or to destroy? But they were silent

⁹ Jesus said to them: I ask you, What is it lawful to do on the sabbath? that which is good? or that which is evil? to save life or to destroy it?

⁴⁴ Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like graves that are unknown, and men walk over them and do not know it. ⁴⁵ And one of the Scribes replied, and said to him: Teacher, while saying these things, thou reproachest us also.

¹⁴ And the chief of the synagogue, being angry that Jesus had healed on the sabbath, answered, and said to the multitude: There are six days, on which it is lawful to work; on them come ye, and be healed, and not on the sabbath day. ¹⁵ But Jesus replied, and said to him: Thou hypocrite! Doth not every one of you, on the sabbath, loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him to water? ¹⁶ And this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom the Calumniator hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, ought she not to be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?

²³ And if a child is circumcised on the sabbath day, that the law of Moses may not be violated, do ye murmur at me, because I have made a man entirely sound on the sabbath day?
