²³ And he swore to her: Whatever thou shalt ask, I will give thee, even to the half of my kingdom.

⁹ and said to him: All these will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

³⁴ But I say to you, Swear not at all: not by heaven, for it is the throne of God: ³⁵ and not by the earth, for it is the footstool under his feet: and likewise not by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great king. ³⁶ Moreover, thou shalt not swear by thy head, for thou canst not make one hair in it either black or white. ³⁷ But let your language be, Yes, yes; or No, no; for whatever is beyond these proceedeth from evil.
