⁸ Again, I write a new commandment to you, which is true in him and in you; because the darkness is passing away, and the true light already shines.

¹ [By David.] The LORD is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid?

⁹ For with you is the spring of life. In your light shall we see light.

¹¹ For the LORD God is a sun and a shield. The LORD will give grace and glory. He withholds no good thing from those who walk blamelessly.

¹¹ For, look, the winter is past. The rain is over and gone. ¹² The flowers appear on the earth. The time of the singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.

² The people sitting in darkness have seen a great light. Those living in the land and shadow of death, on them a light has shined.

¹ "Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you. ² For, look, darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the peoples; but the LORD will arise on you, and his glory shall be seen on you. ³ Nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.

² But to you who fear my name shall the sun of righteousness arise with healing in its wings. You will go out, and leap like calves of the stall.

¹⁶ The people sitting in darkness have seen a great light, and those living in the land and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned."

⁷⁹ to shine on those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death; to guide our feet into the way of peace."

⁴ In him was life, and the life was the light of humanity. ⁵ And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness hasn't overcome it.

⁹ The true light that enlightens everyone was coming into the world.

¹² Again, therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life."

³⁵ Jesus therefore said to them, "Yet a little while the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, that darkness does not overtake you. He who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.

⁴⁶ I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in me may not remain in the darkness.

³⁴ A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also must love one another.

¹² "This is my commandment, that you love one another, even as I have loved you. ¹³ Greater love has no one than this, that someone lays down his life for his friends. ¹⁴ You are my friends, if you do whatever I command you. ¹⁵ No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, for everything that I heard from my Father I have made known to you.

³⁰ The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked. But now he commands that all people everywhere should repent,

¹⁸ to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in me.'

¹² The night is far gone, and the day is near. Let us therefore throw off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.

⁴ in whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, so they would not see the light of the glorious Good News of Christ, who is the image of God. ⁵ For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your slaves because of Jesus. ⁶ For it is God, who spoke for light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

⁹ For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might become rich.

¹ Be therefore imitators of God, as beloved children. ² And walk in love, even as Christ also loved us, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling fragrance.

⁸ For you were once darkness, but are now light in the Lord. Walk as children of light,

⁴ But you, brothers, are not in darkness, that the day should overtake you like a thief. ⁵ You are all children of light, and children of the day. We do not belong to the night, nor to darkness, ⁶ so then let us not sleep, as the rest do, but let us watch and be sober. ⁷ For those who sleep, sleep in the night, and those who are drunk are drunk in the night. ⁸ But let us, since we belong to the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and, for a helmet, the hope of salvation.

¹⁰ but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who abolished death, and brought life and immortality to light through the Good News.

²¹ who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead, and gave him glory; so that your faith and hope might be in God.

¹ Forasmuch then as Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin; ² that you no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh for human desires, but for the will of God. ³ For enough time in the past has been spent doing the will of the unbelievers, and having walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, orgies, carousings, and abominable idolatries.

¹⁴ We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. He who does not love remains in death. ¹⁵ Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has everlasting life remaining in him. ¹⁶ By this we know love, because he laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.

¹¹ Beloved, if God loved us in this way, we also ought to love one another.

²¹ This commandment we have from him, that he who loves God should also love his brother.
