¹ Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. ² Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, "So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time." ³ And he was afraid, and he got up and fled for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there. ⁴ But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he requested for himself that he might die, and said, "It is enough. Now, O LORD, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers." ⁵ He lay down and slept under a broom tree. And look, an angel touched him, and said to him, "Arise and eat." ⁶ He looked, and look, there was at his head a cake baked on the coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank, and lay down again. ⁷ The angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, "Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you." ⁸ And he got up and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb the Mount of God. ⁹ And there he came to a cave and lodged there; and look, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" ¹⁰ He said, "I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and slain your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away." ¹¹ And he said, "Go out tomorrow and stand on the mountain before the LORD." Look, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake. ¹² After the earthquake a fire passed; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. ¹³ It was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his cloak, and went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave. Look, a voice came to him, and said, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" ¹⁴ He said, "I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and slain your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away." ¹⁵ The LORD said to him, "Go, return on your way, and you will come to the way of the wilderness of Damascus, and when you arrive, you shall anoint Hazael to be king over Aram. ¹⁶ You shall anoint Jehu the son of Nimshi to be king over Israel; and you shall anoint Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel Meholah to be prophet in your place. ¹⁷ It shall happen, that he who escapes from the sword of Hazael, Jehu will kill; and he who escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha will kill. ¹⁸ Yet I have kept for myself seven thousand people in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him." ¹⁹ So he departed there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing, with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed over to him, and cast his cloak on him. ²⁰ He left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, "Let me please kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you." He said to him, "Go back again; for what have I done to you?" ²¹ He returned from following him, and took the yoke of oxen, and killed them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave to the people, and they ate. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and served him.

³¹ It happened, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshiped him.

⁴⁰ And Elijah said to them, "Seize the prophets of Baal. Do not let one of them escape." And they seized them. And Elijah brought them down to the Wadi Kishon, and killed them there.

⁵ But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said to him, "Why is your spirit so sad, that you eat no bread?" ⁶ He said to her, "Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite, and said to him, 'Give me your vineyard for money; or else, if it pleases you, I will give you another vineyard for it.' He answered, 'I will not give you my vineyard.'" ⁷ Jezebel his wife said to him, "Do you now govern the kingdom of Israel? Arise, and eat bread, and let your heart be merry. I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite."

²⁵ But there was none like Ahab, who sold himself to do that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.

²⁸ Pharaoh said to him, "Get away from me. Make sure you never see my face again; for in the day you see my face you shall die."

⁹ The enemy said, 'I will pursue. I will overtake. I will divide the spoil. My desire shall be satisfied on them. I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.'

¹⁷ where you die, will I die, and there will I be buried. The LORD do so to me, and more also, if anything but death part you and me."

²⁸ The news came to Joab; for Joab had turned after Adonijah, though he did not turn after Absalom. Joab fled to the Tent of the LORD, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.

¹⁰ Ben Hadad sent to him, and said, "The gods do so to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people who follow me."

³¹ Then he said, "God do so to me, and more also, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stay on him this day."

¹⁰ 'Thus you shall speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, "Do not let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria. ¹¹ Look, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly. Will you be delivered? ¹² Have the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed, Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the people of Eden that were in Telassar?

²² Whom have you defied and blasphemed? Against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel.

²⁷ But I know your sitting down, and your going out, and your coming in, and your raging against me. ²⁸ Because of your raging against me, and because your arrogance has come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came."

¹ Do not boast about tomorrow; for you do not know what a day may bring forth.

¹⁵ Now if you are ready whenever you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music to fall down and worship the image which I have made, well: but if you do not worship, you shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that god that shall deliver you out of my hands?"

⁴ When he had arrested him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of four soldiers each to guard him, intending to bring him out to the people after the Passover. ⁵ Peter therefore was kept in the prison, but constant prayer was made by the church to God for him. ⁶ The same night when Herod was about to bring him out, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains. Guards in front of the door kept the prison.

¹³ Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow let us go into this city, and spend a year there, trade, and make a profit." ¹⁴ Whereas you do not know what tomorrow will be like. What is your life? For you are a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

¹² It will happen, when the Egyptians will see you, that they will say, 'This is his wife.' And they will kill me, but they will let you live. ¹³ Please say that you are my sister, that it may be well with me for your sake, and that I may live because of you."

³¹ Therefore he called that place Beersheba, because they both swore there.

¹⁵ Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and lived in the land of Midian, and he sat down by a well.

¹ David said in his heart, "I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me except that I escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul will despair of me, to seek me any more in all the borders of Israel. So shall I escape out of his hand."

²⁵ Judah and Israel lived safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan even to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon.

¹² "I, even I, am he who comforts you: who are you, that you are afraid of man who shall die, and of the son of man who shall be made as grass; ¹³ and have forgotten the LORD your Maker, who stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and fear continually all the day because of the fury of the oppressor, when he makes ready to destroy? and where is the fury of the oppressor?

¹² Amaziah also said to Amos, "You seer, go, flee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there: ¹³ but do not prophesy again any more at Bethel; for it is the king's sanctuary, and it is a royal house."

⁵⁶ But all this has happened, that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all the disciples left him, and fled.

⁷⁰ But he denied it before them all, saying, "I do not know what you are talking about." ⁷¹ And when he had gone out onto the porch, another girl saw him, and said to those who were there, "This man also was with Jesus the Nazorean." ⁷² Again he denied it with an oath, "I do not know the man." ⁷³ After a little while those who stood by came and said to Peter, "Surely you are also one of them, for your accent makes you known." ⁷⁴ Then he began to curse and to swear, "I do not know the man." Immediately the rooster crowed.

⁷ And because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, therefore, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to pound away at me, to keep me from exalting myself.

¹⁵ The water in the skin was gone, and she shoved the boy under one of the shrubs. ¹⁶ She went and sat down opposite him, a good way off, about a bow shot away. For she said, "Do not let me see the death of the boy." So she sat across from him, and he wept loudly.

¹⁵ If you treat me this way, please kill me right now, if I have found favor in your sight; and do not let me see my wretchedness."

¹⁴ He went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak. He said to him, "Are you the man of God who came from Judah?" He said, "I am."

³ And he was afraid, and he got up and fled for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.

¹¹ It happened, as they still went on, and talked, that look, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

²⁰ "Why is light given to him who is in misery, life to the bitter in soul, ²¹ Who long for death, but it doesn't come; and dig for it more than for hidden treasures, ²² who rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave?

¹⁴ Cursed is the day in which I was born: do not let the day in which my mother bore me be blessed. ¹⁵ Cursed is the man who brought news to my father, saying, A boy is born to you; making him very glad. ¹⁶ Let that man be as the cities which the LORD overthrew, and did not repent: and let him hear a cry in the morning, and shouting at noontime; ¹⁷ because he did not kill me from the womb; and so my mother would have been my grave, and her womb always great. ¹⁸ Why came I forth out of the womb to see labor and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?

² Go to Calneh, and see; and from there go to Hamath the great; then go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are they better than these kingdoms? or is their border greater than your border?

³ Therefore now, LORD, take, I beg you, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live."

⁸ It happened, when the sun arose, that God prepared a sultry east wind; and the sun beat on Jonah's head, so that he fainted, and requested for himself that he might die, and said, "It is better for me to die than to live."

⁸ Are you better than No-Amon, who was situated among the rivers, who had the waters around her; whose rampart was the sea, and her wall was of the sea?

²⁶ See the birds of the sky, that they do not sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns, and your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of much more value than they?

⁶ Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being tired from his journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour.

⁹ What then? Are we better than they? No, in no way. For we previously warned both Jews and Greeks, that they are all under sin.

²¹ For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. ²² But if I live on in the flesh, this will bring fruit from my work; yet I do not make known what I will choose. ²³ But I am in a dilemma between the two, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. ²⁴ Yet, to remain in the flesh is more needful for your sake.

¹¹ He came to a certain place, and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. He took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and lay down in that place to sleep. ¹² And he dreamed. And look, a stairway was set upon the earth, and its top reached to heaven. And look, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. ¹³ And look, the LORD stood above it, and said, "I am the God of Abraham your grandfather, and the God of Isaac. The land on which you are lying I will give to you and to your descendants. ¹⁴ Your descendants will be as the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south. And through you and through your descendants will all the families of the earth be blessed. ¹⁵ And look, I am with you, and will watch over you wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you, until I have done that which I have spoken of to you."

⁷ The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.

¹⁰ The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger, but those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing.

¹⁹ He said, "Look, I will make you know what shall be in the latter time of wrath, for it belongs to the appointed time of the end.

²¹ while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, came to me in my weariness about the time of the evening sacrifice.

⁹ Yet I heard the sound of his words, and when I heard the sound of his words, then I fell into a deep sleep on my face, with my face toward the ground. ¹⁰ Look, a hand touched me, which set me on my knees and on the palms of my hands.

⁷ And look, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side, and woke him up, saying, "Stand up quickly." His chains fell off from his hands.

¹⁴ Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to do service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?

⁵ Be free from the love of money, content with such things as you have, for he has said, "I will never leave you or forsake you."

⁶ And the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening. And he drank from the wadi.

⁹ "Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and stay there. Look, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you." ¹⁰ So he got up and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, look, a widow was there gathering wood. And he called to her, and said, "Please bring me a little water in a pitcher, that I may drink." ¹¹ And as she was going to get it, he called to her, and said, "Please bring me a piece of bread in your hand." ¹² She said, "As the LORD your God lives, I do not have anything baked, except a handful of flour in a jar, and a little oil in a jug. Look, I am gathering a couple of sticks, that I may go in and bake it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die." ¹³ And Elijah said to her, "Do not be afraid. Go and do as you have said. But make me of it a little cake first, and bring it out to me, and afterward make some for yourself and for your son. ¹⁴ For thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, 'The jar of flour shall not empty, neither shall the jug of oil be empty, until the day that the LORD sends rain on the surface of the land.'" ¹⁵ And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah. And she, and he, and her household, ate for a long time.

³ Trust in the LORD, and do good. Dwell in the land, and enjoy safe pasture.

¹⁶ he will dwell on high. His place of defense will be the fortress of rocks. His bread will be supplied. His waters will be sure.

¹¹ Then the devil left him, and look, angels came and served him.

³² For the unbelievers seek after all these things, for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.

² "I have compassion on the crowd, because they have stayed with me now three days, and have nothing to eat. ³ If I send them away fasting to their home, they will faint on the way, and some of them have come a long way."

⁵ Jesus therefore said to them, "Children, have you anything to eat?" They answered him, "No."

⁹ So when they got out on the land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish placed on it, and bread.

²⁵ Your bars shall be iron and bronze. As your days, so your strength will be.

¹³ Like a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him. ¹⁴ For he knows how we are made. He remembers that we are dust.

¹ Now Moses was keeping the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the back of the wilderness, and came to God's mountain, to Horeb.

¹⁸ And Mount Sinai was wrapped in smoke because God descended on it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.

¹⁸ Moses entered into the midst of the cloud, and went up on the mountain; and Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

²⁸ He was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread, nor drank water. He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

⁹ When I was gone up onto the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, even the tablets of the covenant which the LORD made with you, then I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water. ¹⁰ The LORD delivered to me the two tablets of stone written with the finger of God; and on them were all the words which the LORD spoke with you on the mountain out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly. ¹¹ It came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the LORD gave me the two tablets of stone, even the tablets of the covenant.

¹⁸ I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water; because of all your sin which you sinned, in doing that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

¹⁵ At the end of ten days their faces appeared better and fatter than all the youths who ate of the king's royal food.

⁴ "Remember the Law of Moses my servant, which I commanded to him in Horeb for all Israel, even statutes and ordinances. ⁵ Look, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes.

² And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry afterward.

¹³ He was in the wilderness forty days tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals; and the angels were serving him.

² for forty days, being tempted by the devil. He ate nothing in those days. When they were completed, he was hungry.

⁹ He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness." Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

⁹ So God called to the man, and said to him, "Where are you?"

⁸ And he said, "Hagar, servant of Sarai, where did you come from, and where are you going?" And she said, "I am running away from the presence of my mistress Sarai."

²¹ The LORD also said, "Look, there is a place by me, and you are to station yourself on the rock. ²² It will happen, while my glory passes by, that I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and will cover you with my hand until I have passed by;

¹³ It was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his cloak, and went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave. Look, a voice came to him, and said, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"

¹⁸ Now what have you to do in the way to Egypt, to drink the waters of the Shihor? Or what have you to do in the way to Assyria, to drink the waters of the River?

² Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging place of wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them. For they are all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men."

³ But Jonah rose up to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid its fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. ⁴ But the LORD sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty storm on the sea, so that the ship was likely to break up.

³⁸ (of whom the world was not worthy), wandering in deserts, mountains, caves, and the holes of the earth.

⁵ you must not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and upon the children's children, on the third and on the fourth [generation] of those who hate me,

¹⁴ for you shall worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

¹¹ "Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, in that he was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I did not consume the children of Israel in my jealousy.

¹³ and it shall be to him, and to his descendants after him, the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was jealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel.'"

⁴ And it came about, when Jezebel was killing the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took one hundred prophets and hid them, fifty by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.)

¹⁰ As the LORD your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom, where my lord has not sent to seek you. When they said, 'He is not here,' he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they did not find you.

¹⁷ It happened, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, "Is that you, you troubler of Israel?"

²⁰ So Ahab sent to all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together at Mount Carmel.

²² Then Elijah said to the people, "I, even I only, am left a prophet of the LORD; but the prophets of Baal are four hundred and fifty men, and the prophets of Asherah four hundred.

³⁰ Elijah said to all the people, "Come near to me"; and all the people came near to him. He repaired the altar of the LORD that had been torn down.

² Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, "So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time."

¹³ Look, a prophet came near to Ahab king of Israel, and said, "Thus says the LORD, 'Have you seen all this great multitude? Look, I will deliver it into your hand this day; and you shall know that I am the LORD.'"

²² The prophet came near to the king of Israel, and said to him, "Go, strengthen yourself, and mark, and see what you do; for at the return of the year the king of Aram will come up against you."

³⁵ A certain man of the sons of the prophets said to his fellow by the word of the LORD, "Please strike me." The man refused to strike him.

⁴¹ He hurried, and took the headband away from his eyes; and the king of Israel recognized that he was of the prophets. ⁴² He said to him, "Thus says the LORD, 'Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.'"

⁸ The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the LORD, Micaiah the son of Imlah; but I hate him; for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil." Jehoshaphat said, "Do not let the king say so."

⁹ For the zeal of your house consumes me. The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.

¹³⁹ My zeal wears me out, because my enemies ignore your words.

³⁰ "I have struck your children in vain. They received no correction. Your own sword has devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

¹¹ Ephraim is oppressed, he is crushed in judgment; Because he is intent in his pursuit of idols.

¹⁶ For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab; and you walk in their counsels. Therefore I will make you a desolation, and her inhabitants an object of contempt; and you will bear the scorn of the nations."

² The faithful have vanished from the earth, and there is no one upright among men. They all lie in wait for blood; every man hunts his brother with a net.

¹⁷ His disciples remembered that it was written, "Zeal for your house will consume me."

² God did not reject his people, which he foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says about Elijah? How he pleads with God against Israel: ³ "Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have broken down your altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life." ⁴ But how does God answer him? "I have kept for myself seven thousand people, who have not bowed the knee to Baal."

¹⁶ It happened on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain, and the sound of an exceedingly loud trumpet; and all the people who were in the camp trembled.

²⁰ The LORD came down on Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain. The LORD called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.

¹⁸ All the people perceived the thunderings, the lightnings, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking. When the people saw it, they trembled, and stayed at a distance.

¹² The LORD said to Moses, "Come up to me on the mountain, and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone with the law and the commands that I have written, that you may teach them."

²¹ The LORD also said, "Look, there is a place by me, and you are to station yourself on the rock. ²² It will happen, while my glory passes by, that I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and will cover you with my hand until I have passed by; ²³ then I will take away my hand, and you will see my back; but my face shall not be seen."

² Be ready by the morning, and come up in the morning to Mount Sinai, and station yourself there to me on the top of the mountain.

⁶ The LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, "The LORD, the LORD, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness and truth,

¹⁵ And there was a terror in the camp, in the field, and among all the people. The garrison and even the raiders were terrified. And the earth quaked, and it became a terror of God.

¹ Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind,

³ Our God comes, and does not keep silent. A fire devours before him. It is very stormy around him.

⁸ The earth trembled. The sky also poured down rain at the presence of the God of Sinai—at the presence of God, the God of Israel.

³⁰ The LORD will cause his glorious voice to be heard, and will show the descent of his arm, with the indignation of his anger, and the flame of a devouring fire, with a blast, storm, and hailstones.

⁴ I looked, and look, a stormy wind came out of the north, a great cloud, with flashing lightning, and a brightness around it, and out of its midst as it were glowing metal, out of the midst of the fire.

⁷ So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and look, an earthquake; and the bones came together, bone to its bone.

³ The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will by no means leave the guilty unpunished. The LORD has his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

⁵ The mountains quake before him, and the hills melt away. The earth trembles at his presence, yes, the world, and all who dwell in it. ⁶ Who can stand before his indignation? Who can endure the fierceness of his anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken apart by him.

³ God came from Teman, the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and his praise filled the earth. ⁴ His splendor is like the sunrise. Rays shine from his hand, where his power is hidden. ⁵ Plague went before him, and pestilence followed his feet.

⁶ Then he answered and spoke to me, saying, "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel, saying, 'Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the LORD of hosts.

⁵ Then you shall flee by the valley of my mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach to Azel; yes, you shall flee, just like you fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the LORD my God will come, and all the holy ones with him.

¹ After six days, Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up into a high mountain by themselves. ² He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his garments became as white as the light. ³ And look, Moses and Elijah appeared to them talking with him.

⁷ For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there will be famines and plagues and earthquakes in various places.

⁵¹ And look, the veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom. The earth quaked and the rocks were split. ⁵² The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; ⁵³ and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection, they entered into the holy city and appeared to many. ⁵⁴ Now the centurion, and those who were with him watching Jesus, when they saw the earthquake, and the things that were done, feared exceedingly, saying, "Truly this was the Son of God."

² And look, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from the sky, and came and rolled away the stone, and sat on it.

¹⁸ For you have not come to something that might be touched, and that burned with fire, and darkness, gloom, and storm, ¹⁹ the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which those who heard it begged that not one more word should be spoken to them, ²⁰ for they could not stand that which was commanded, "If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned;" ²¹ and so fearful was the appearance, that Moses said, "I am terrified and trembling."

²⁶ whose voice shook the earth then, but now he has promised, saying, "Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heavens."

¹⁷ For he received from God the Father honor and glory, when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." ¹⁸ We heard this voice come out of heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.

¹⁹ God's temple that is in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant was seen in his temple. Lightnings, sounds, thunders, an earthquake, and great hail followed.

¹⁸ There were lightnings, voices, and peals of thunder; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since man was on the earth, so great an earthquake, so mighty.

¹¹ I saw a great white throne, and him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. There was found no place for them.

¹⁷ It came to pass that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, look, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.

² The angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and look, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.

¹¹ You came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire to the heart of the sky, with darkness, cloud, and thick darkness. ¹² The LORD spoke to you out of the midst of the fire: you heard the voice of words, but you saw no form; you only heard a voice.

³³ Did a people ever hear the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and live?

³⁸ Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

¹⁰ Elijah answered to the captain of fifty, "If I am a man of God, let fire come down from the sky, and consume you and your fifty." Fire came down from the sky, and consumed him and his fifty.

¹⁶ It stood still, but I couldn't discern its appearance. A form was before my eyes. Silence, then I heard a voice, saying,

⁷ Look, my terror shall not make you afraid, neither shall my pressure be heavy on you.

² Suddenly there came from the sky a sound like the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

³⁶ "Let all the house of Israel therefore know certainly that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified." ³⁷ Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brothers, what should we do?"

²⁹ for our God is a consuming fire.

⁵ He said, "Do not come close. Take your sandals off of your feet, for the place you are standing on is holy ground." ⁶ Moreover he said, "I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look at God.

²³ then I will take away my hand, and you will see my back; but my face shall not be seen."

⁴² So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he bowed himself down toward the ground, and put his face between his knees.

⁹ And there he came to a cave and lodged there; and look, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"

² Above him stood the seraphim. Each one had six wings. With two he covered his face. With two he covered his feet. With two he flew.

⁵ Then I said, "Woe is me. For I am undone, because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts."

¹⁵ So when they had eaten their breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs." ¹⁶ He said to him again a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Tend my sheep." ¹⁷ He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was grieved because he asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" And he said to him, "Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep.

²⁵ Then men shall say, "Because they forsook the covenant of the LORD, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt,

²⁰ For when I shall have brought them into the land which I swore to their fathers, flowing with milk and honey, and they shall have eaten and filled themselves, and grown fat; then will they turn to other gods, and serve them, and despise me, and break my covenant.

⁹ And there he came to a cave and lodged there; and look, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" ¹⁰ He said, "I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and slain your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away."

³⁷ For their heart was not right with him, neither were they faithful in his covenant.

⁴ Ah sinful nation, a people loaded with iniquity, offspring of evildoers, children who deal corruptly. They have forsaken the LORD. They have despised the Holy One of Israel. They are estranged and backward.

¹ For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until her righteousness go forth as brightness, and her salvation as a lamp that burns.

⁶ I have set watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they shall never be silent, day or night. You who call on the LORD, take no rest, ⁷ and give him no rest until he establishes and until he makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

⁹ Then they shall answer, 'Because they forsook the covenant of the LORD their God, and worshiped other gods, and served them.'

³⁰ For ships from Kittim shall come against him; therefore he shall be intimidated, and shall turn back, and be enraged against the holy covenant, and shall take action. He shall turn back, and show regard to those who forsake the holy covenant.

⁷ But they, like Adam, have broken the covenant. They were unfaithful to me, there.

⁹ not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers, in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; for they did not continue in my covenant, and I disregarded them," says the Lord.

¹⁵ He divided his forces against them at night, he and his servants, and attacked them, and pursued them to Hobah, which is north of Damascus.

⁷ Elisha came to Damascus; and Benhadad the king of Aram was sick. It was told him, saying, "The man of God has come here." ⁸ The king said to Hazael, "Take a present in your hand, and go, meet the man of God, and inquire of the LORD by him, saying, 'Will I recover from this sickness?'" ⁹ So Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels' burden, and came and stood before him, and said, "Your son Benhadad king of Aram has sent me to you, saying, 'Will I recover from this sickness?'" ¹⁰ Elisha said to him, "Go, say to him, 'You shall surely recover;' however the LORD has shown me that he shall surely die." ¹¹ He settled his gaze steadfastly on him, until he was ashamed. Then the man of God wept. ¹² Hazael said, "Why do you weep, my lord?" He answered, "Because I know the evil that you will do to the children of Israel. You will set their strongholds on fire, and you will kill their young men with the sword, and will dash in pieces their little ones, and rip up their women with child." ¹³ Hazael said, "But what is your servant, who is but a dog, that he should do this great thing?" Elisha answered, "The LORD has shown me that you will be king over Aram." ¹⁴ Then he departed from Elisha, and came to his master, who said to him, "What did Elisha say to you?" He answered, "He told me that you would surely recover." ¹⁵ It happened on the next day, that he took a thick cloth, dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died. Then Hazael reigned in his place.

²⁸ He went with Joram the son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth Gilead: and the Arameans wounded Joram.

¹⁴ So Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi conspired against Joram. (Now Joram was keeping Ramoth Gilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael king of Aram;

¹ Thus says the LORD to his anointed, to Koresh, whose right hand I have held, to subdue nations before him, and strip kings of their armor; to open the doors before him, and the gates shall not be shut:

¹⁰ Look, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant."

² "Thus says the LORD to me: Make bonds and bars, and put them on your neck; ³ and send them to the king of Edom, and to the king of Moab, and to the king of the people of Ammon, and to the king of Tyre, and to the king of Sidon, by the hand of the messengers who come to Jerusalem to Zedekiah king of Judah; ⁴ and give them a command to their masters, saying, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, You shall tell your masters: ⁵ "I have made the earth, the men and the animals that are on the surface of the earth, by my great power and by my outstretched arm; and I give it to whom it seems right to me. ⁶ Now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and the animals of the field also have I given him to serve him. ⁷ All the nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son's son, until the time of his own land come: and then many nations and great kings shall make him their bondservant. ⁸ It shall happen, that the nation and the kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation will I punish, says the LORD, with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand. ⁹ But as for you, do not listen to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreams, nor to your soothsayers, nor to your sorcerers, who speak to you, saying, 'You shall not serve the king of Babylon': ¹⁰ for they prophesy a lie to you, to remove you far from your land, and that I should drive you out, and you should perish. ¹¹ But the nation that shall bring their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him, that nation will I let remain in their own land, says the LORD; and they shall till it, and dwell in it."'" ¹² I spoke to Zedekiah king of Judah according to all these words, saying, "Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people, and live. ¹³ Why will you die, you and your people, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, as the LORD has spoken concerning the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon? ¹⁴ Do not listen to the words of the prophets who speak to you, saying, 'You shall not serve the king of Babylon'; for they prophesy a lie to you. ¹⁵ 'For I have not sent them,' says the LORD, 'but they prophesy falsely in my name; that I may drive you out, and that you may perish, you, and the prophets who prophesy to you.'" ¹⁶ Also I spoke to the priests and to all this people, saying, "Thus says the LORD: 'Do not listen to the words of your prophets who prophesy to you, saying, Look, the vessels of the LORD's house shall now shortly be brought again from Babylon; for they prophesy a lie to you. ¹⁷ Do not listen to them; serve the king of Babylon, and live: why should this city become a desolation?' ¹⁸ But if they be prophets, and if the word of the LORD be with them, let them now make intercession to the LORD of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, do not go to Babylon. ¹⁹ For thus says the LORD of hosts concerning the pillars, and concerning the sea, and concerning the bases, and concerning the residue of the vessels that are left in this city, ²⁰ which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take, when he carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem; ²¹ yes, thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that are left in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem: ²² 'They shall be carried to Babylon, and there shall they be, until the day that I visit them,' says the LORD; 'then will I bring them up, and restore them to this place.'"

⁴ but I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, and it will devour the palaces of Ben Hadad.

² and asked for letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. ³ As he traveled, it happened that he got close to Damascus, and suddenly a light from the sky shone around him.

²² They blew the three hundred trumpets, and the LORD set every man's sword against his fellow, and against all the army; and the army fled as far as Beth Shittah toward Zererah, as far as the border of Abel Meholah, by Tabbath.

¹² Baana the son of Ahilud, in Taanach and Megiddo, and all Beth Shean which is beside Zarethan, beneath Jezreel, from Beth Shean to Abel Meholah, as far as beyond Jokmeam;

¹⁹ So he departed there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing, with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed over to him, and cast his cloak on him. ²⁰ He left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, "Let me please kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you." He said to him, "Go back again; for what have I done to you?" ²¹ He returned from following him, and took the yoke of oxen, and killed them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave to the people, and they ate. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and served him.

⁹ It happened, when they had gone over, that Elijah said to Elisha, "Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you." Elisha said, "Please let a double portion of your spirit be on me."

¹⁵ When the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho over against him saw him, they said, "The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha." They came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

¹ Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets, and said to him, "Put your belt on your waist, take this vial of oil in your hand, and go to Ramoth Gilead. ² When you come there, find Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in, and make him arise up from among his brothers, and carry him to an inner room. ³ Then take the vial of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, 'Thus says the LORD, "I have anointed you king over Israel."' Then open the door, flee, and do not wait." ⁴ So the young man, even the young man the prophet, went to Ramoth Gilead. ⁵ When he came, look, the captains of the army were sitting. Then he said, "I have a message for you, captain." Jehu said, "To which of us all?" He said, "To you, O captain." ⁶ He arose, and went into the house. Then he poured the oil on his head, and said to him, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, 'I have anointed you king over the people of the LORD, even over Israel. ⁷ You shall strike the house of Ahab your master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the LORD, at the hand of Jezebel. ⁸ For the whole house of Ahab shall perish. I will cut off from Ahab everyone who urinates against a wall, both him who is shut up and him who is left at large in Israel. ⁹ I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah. ¹⁰ The dogs will eat Jezebel on the plot of ground of Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her.'" He opened the door, and fled. ¹¹ Then Jehu came forth to the servants of his lord: and one said to him, "Is all well? Why did this mad fellow come to you?" He said to them, "You know the man and what his talk was." ¹² They said, "That is a lie. Tell us now." He said, "He said to me, 'Thus says the LORD, I have anointed you king over Israel.'" ¹³ Then they hurried, and took every man his garment, and put it under him on the top of the stairs, and blew the trumpet, saying, "Jehu is king." ¹⁴ So Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi conspired against Joram. (Now Joram was keeping Ramoth Gilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael king of Aram;

²⁷ There were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed, except Naaman, the Syrian."

²³ He went up from there to Bethel. As he was going up by the way, some youths came out of the city and mocked him, and said to him, "Go up, you baldy. Go up, you baldhead." ²⁴ He looked behind him and saw them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. Two female bears came out of the woods, and mauled forty-two of those youths.

¹² Hazael said, "Why do you weep, my lord?" He answered, "Because I know the evil that you will do to the children of Israel. You will set their strongholds on fire, and you will kill their young men with the sword, and will dash in pieces their little ones, and rip up their women with child."

¹⁴ So Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi conspired against Joram. (Now Joram was keeping Ramoth Gilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael king of Aram; ¹⁵ but king Joram was returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Arameans had given him, when he fought with Hazael king of Aram.) Jehu said, "If this is your thinking, then let no one escape and go out of the city, to go to tell it in Jezreel." ¹⁶ So Jehu rode in a chariot, and went to Jezreel; for Joram lay there. Ahaziah king of Judah had come down to see Joram. ¹⁷ Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel, and he spied the company of Jehu as he came, and said, "I see a company." Joram said, "Take a horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say, 'Is it peace?'" ¹⁸ So there went one on horseback to meet him, and said, "Thus says the king, 'Is it peace?'" Jehu said, "What do you have to do with peace? Fall in behind me." The watchman said, "The messenger came to them, but he isn't coming back." ¹⁹ Then he sent out a second on horseback, who came to them, and said, "Thus says the king, 'Is it peace?'" Jehu answered, "What do you have to do with peace? Fall in behind me." ²⁰ The watchman said, "He came to them, and isn't coming back. The driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi; for he drives furiously." ²¹ Joram said, "Get ready." They got his chariot ready. Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot, and they went out to meet Jehu, and found him in the portion of Naboth the Jezreelite. ²² It happened, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, "Is it peace, Jehu?" He answered, "What peace, so long as the prostitution of your mother Jezebel and her witchcraft abound?" ²³ Joram turned his hands, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, "There is treason, Ahaziah." ²⁴ Jehu drew his bow with his full strength, and shot Joram between his arms; and the arrow went out at his heart, and he sunk down in his chariot. ²⁵ Then Jehu said to Bidkar his captain, "Pick him up, and throw him in the plot of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite; for I remember how when you and I rode together behind Ahab his father, the LORD pronounced this judgment on him:

¹⁴ He said, "Take them alive." They took them alive, and killed them at the pit of the shearing house, even forty-two men. He did not leave any of them. ¹⁵ When he had departed from there, he met Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him. He greeted him, and said to him, "Is your heart right, as my heart is with your heart?" Jehonadab answered, "It is." And he said, "If it is, give me your hand." He gave him his hand; and he took him up to him into the chariot. ¹⁶ He said, "Come with me, and see my zeal for the LORD." So he made him ride in his chariot. ¹⁷ When he came to Samaria, he struck all who remained to Ahab in Samaria, until he had destroyed him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke to Elijah. ¹⁸ Jehu gathered all the people together, and said to them, "Ahab served Baal a little; but Jehu will serve him much. ¹⁹ Now therefore call to me all the prophets of Baal, all of his worshippers, and all of his priests. Let none be absent; for I have a great sacrifice to Baal. Whoever is absent, he shall not live." But Jehu did it in subtlety, intending that he might destroy the worshippers of Baal. ²⁰ Jehu said, "Sanctify a solemn assembly for Baal." They proclaimed it. ²¹ Jehu sent through all Israel; and all the worshippers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left that did not come. They came into the house of Baal; and the house of Baal was filled from one end to another. ²² He said to him who was over the vestry, "Bring out robes for all the worshippers of Baal." He brought robes out to them. ²³ Jehu went with Jehonadab the son of Rechab into the house of Baal. Then he said to the worshippers of Baal, "Search, and look that there are here with you none of the servants of the LORD, but the worshippers of Baal only." ²⁴ They went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had appointed him eighty men outside, and said, "If any of the men whom I bring into your hands escape, he who lets him go, his life shall be for the life of him." ²⁵ It happened, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, "Go in, and kill them. Let none escape." They struck them with the edge of the sword; and the guard and the captains cast them out, and went to the city of the house of Baal.

³² In those days the LORD began to cut off from Israel; and Hazael struck them in all the borders of Israel;

³ The anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Aram, and into the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael, continually.

²² Hazael king of Aram oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.

⁴ but with righteousness he will judge the poor, and decide with equity for the humble of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked.

¹⁷ Fear, the pit, and the snare, are on you who inhabitant the earth. ¹⁸ It will happen that he who flees from the noise of the fear will fall into the pit; and he who comes up out of the midst of the pit will be taken in the snare; for the windows of heaven are opened, and the foundations of the earth tremble.

⁵ Therefore I have cut them to pieces with the prophets; I killed them with the words of my mouth, and my judgment goes forth as the light.

¹⁴ Flight will perish from the swift; and the strong won't strengthen his force; neither shall the mighty deliver himself;

¹⁹ As if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him; Or he went into the house and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.

²¹ The rest were killed with the sword of him who sat on the horse, the sword which came forth out of his mouth. All the birds were filled with their flesh.

²⁷ and my heart has been secretly enticed, and my hand threw a kiss from my mouth,

¹² Do homage in purity, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, when his anger is suddenly kindled. Blessed are all those who take refuge in him.

⁹ Unless the LORD of hosts had left us a few survivors, we would have been as Sodom, and we would have been like Gomorrah.

²⁰ It will come to pass in that day that the remnant of Israel, and those who have escaped from the house of Jacob will no more again lean on him who struck them, but shall lean on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. ²¹ A remnant will return, even the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God. ²² For though your people, Israel, are as the sand of the sea, a remnant will be kept safe. For he will fulfill the word and decisively, overflowing in righteousness;

²³ Kings shall be your nursing fathers, and their queens your nursing mothers: they shall bow down to you with their faces to the earth, and lick the dust of your feet; and you shall know that I am the LORD; and those who wait for me shall not be disappointed."

² Now they sin more and more, and have made themselves molten images of their silver, even idols according to their own understanding, all of them the work of the craftsmen. They say of them, 'They offer human sacrifice and kiss the calves.'

⁴ But how does God answer him? "I have kept for myself seven thousand people, who have not bowed the knee to Baal." ⁵ Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

¹⁰ But you, why do you judge your brother? Or you again, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God. ¹¹ For it is written, "'As I live,' says the Lord, 'to me every knee will bow. Every tongue will confess to God.'" ¹² So then each one of us will give account of himself to God.

¹⁰ that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, those on earth, and those under the earth,

¹¹ The angel of the LORD came, and sat under the oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained to Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideon was beating out wheat in the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.

⁷⁰ He also chose David his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds; ⁷¹ from following the ewes that have their young, he brought him to be the shepherd of Jacob his servant, and Israel his inheritance. ⁷² So he was their shepherd according to the integrity of his heart, and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.

⁵ but he will say, 'I am no prophet, I am a tiller of the ground; for I have been made a bondservant from my youth.'

¹⁸ And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers: Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew, his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. ¹⁹ And he said to them, "Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of people." ²⁰ And they immediately left their nets and followed him.

²² And they immediately left the boat and their father, and followed him.

²¹ And another of the disciples said to him, "Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father." ²² But Jesus said to him, "Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead."

⁹ And as Jesus passed by from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax collection office. He said to him, "Follow me." And he got up and followed him.

²⁷ Then Peter answered, "Look, we have left everything, and followed you. What then will we have?"

⁶¹ Another also said, "I want to follow you, Lord, but first allow me to bid farewell to those who are at my house." ⁶² But Jesus said to him, "No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the Kingdom of God."

³⁷ They all wept a lot, and fell on Paul's neck and kissed him,

¹³ Moses rose up with Joshua, his servant, and Moses went up onto God's Mountain.

¹⁸ The LORD said to Moses, "Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him; ¹⁹ and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and commission him in their sight. ²⁰ You shall put of your honor on him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may obey.

²² Araunah said to David, "Let my lord the king take and offer up what seems good to him. Look, the cattle for the burnt offering, and the threshing instruments and the yokes of the oxen for the wood."

⁴³ And he said to his servant, "Go up now, look toward the sea." So he went up, and looked, and said, "There is nothing." Then he said, "Go again" seven times. And the servant went again seven times.

³ The sons of the prophets who were at Bethel came out to Elisha, and said to him, "Do you know that the LORD will take away your master from your head today?" He said, "Yes, I know it; hold your peace."

¹¹ But Jehoshaphat said, "Isn't there here a prophet of the LORD, that we may inquire of the LORD by him?" One of the king of Israel's servants answered, "Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah."

²⁸ He left everything, and rose up and followed him. ²⁹ Levi made a great feast for him in his house. There was a large crowd of tax collectors and others who were reclining with them.

⁵ When they were at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. They had also John as their attendant.
