⁹ When I was present with you and was in need, I was not a burden on anyone, for the brothers, when they came from Macedonia, supplied the measure of my need. In everything I kept myself from being burdensome to you, and I will continue to do so.

¹⁵ But the former governors who were before me were supported by the people, and took bread and wine from them, besides forty shekels of silver; yes, even their servants ruled over the people: but I did not do so, because of the fear of God.

³ and because he practiced the same trade, he lived with them and worked, for by trade they were tent makers.

³³ I coveted no one's silver, or gold, or clothing.

⁴ but in everything commending ourselves, as servants of God, in great endurance, in afflictions, in hardships, in distresses,

¹ Moreover, brothers, we make known to you the grace of God which has been given in the churches of Macedonia; ² how that in much proof of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded to the riches of their liberality.

¹² For this service of giving that you perform not only makes up for lack among the saints, but abounds also through many thanksgivings to God;

¹³ For what is there in which you were made inferior to the rest of the churches, unless it is that I myself was not a burden to you? Forgive me this wrong. ¹⁴ Look, for the third time I am ready to come to you, and I will not be a burden to you; for I seek not what is yours, but you. For the children ought not to save up for the parents, but the parents for the children. ¹⁵ I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls. If I love you more abundantly, am I loved the less? ¹⁶ But be it so, I did not myself burden you. But, being crafty, I caught you with deception.

²⁵ But I counted it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, fellow soldier, and your apostle and servant of my need;

¹⁰ Now I rejoice in the Lord greatly that at last you have revived your concern for me; in which you were indeed concerned, but you lacked opportunity. ¹¹ I'm not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content in any circumstance. ¹² I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have a lot. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret, whether full or hungry, whether having a lot or being in need. ¹³ I can do all things through him who strengthens me. ¹⁴ Still, you have done well to share my hardship. ¹⁵ And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the Good News, when I departed from Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving but you only. ¹⁶ For even in Thessalonica you sent me aid twice.

⁶ nor seeking glory from people (neither from you nor from others), when we might have claimed authority as apostles of Christ.

⁹ For you remember, brothers, our labor and travail; for working night and day, that we might not burden any of you, we preached to you the Good News of God.

⁸ neither did we eat bread from anyone's hand without paying for it, but in labor and travail worked night and day, that we might not burden any of you; ⁹ not because we do not have the right, but to make ourselves an example to you, that you should imitate us.
