¹⁵ "And now, Lord our God, who has brought your people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and have made a name for yourself, even to this day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly.

¹ The LORD said to Moses, "Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh, for by a strong hand he shall let them go, and by a strong hand he shall drive them out of his land."

⁶ Therefore tell the children of Israel, 'I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm, and with great judgments:

¹⁶ but indeed for this purpose I have raised you up, to show you my power, and that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth;

¹ The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ² "Speak to the children of Israel, that they turn back and camp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, before Baal Zephon. You shall camp opposite it by the sea. ³ Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, 'They are wandering in the land. The wilderness has boxed them in.' ⁴ I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he will follow after them; and I will get honor over Pharaoh, and over all his armies; and the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD." They did so. ⁵ It was told the king of Egypt that the people had fled; and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was changed towards the people, and they said, "What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?" ⁶ He made ready his chariot, and took his army with him; ⁷ and he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over all of them. ⁸ And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel. And the children of Israel went out triumphantly. ⁹ The Egyptians pursued after them: all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen, and his army; and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pi-hahiroth, before Baal Zephon. ¹⁰ When Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and look, the Egyptians were marching after them; and they were very afraid. The children of Israel cried out to the LORD. ¹¹ They said to Moses, "Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you treated us this way, to bring us forth out of Egypt? ¹² Isn't this the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, 'Leave us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians?' For it were better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness." ¹³ Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of God, which he will work for you today: for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall never, ever see again. ¹⁴ The LORD will fight for you, and you shall be still." ¹⁵ The LORD said to Moses, "Why do you cry to me? Speak to the children of Israel, that they go forward.

¹⁸ The Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gotten myself honor over Pharaoh, over his chariots, and over his horsemen."

¹¹ Moses pleaded with the LORD his God, and said, "O LORD, why does your wrath burn hot against your people, that you have brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?

⁵¹ (for they are your people, and your inheritance, which you brought out of Egypt, from the midst of the iron furnace);

¹⁰ "Now these are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your great power, and by your strong hand.

¹⁰ and showed signs and wonders against Pharaoh, and against all his servants, and against all the people of his land; for you knew that they dealt proudly against them, and made a name for yourself, as it is this day.

⁸ Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power known.

¹³ Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree; and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off."

¹⁰ I subscribed the deed, and sealed it, and called witnesses, and weighed him the money in the balances.

²⁰ You performed signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, and to this day in Israel and among all humankind, and have made a name for yourself to this day. ²¹ You brought forth your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, and with wonders, and with a strong hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terror; ²² and gave them this land, which you swore to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey; ²³ and they came in, and possessed it, but they did not obey your voice, neither walked in your law; they have done nothing of all that you commanded them to do: therefore you have caused all this evil to come on them.

⁵ We have sinned, and have done what is wrong and wicked, and have rebelled, even turning aside from your commandments and from your ordinances.

¹⁸ I will get up and go to my father, and will tell him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight. ¹⁹ I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants."'

²¹ The son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.'

¹³ But the tax collector, standing far away, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, a sinner.'

¹⁰ who delivered us out of so great a death, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will also deliver us again;
