Walk before me, and be blameless. ² I will make my covenant between me and you, and will multiply you greatly." ³ Then Abram fell facedown, and God talked with him, saying, ⁴ "As for me, look, my covenant is with you. You will be the father of a multitude of nations. ⁵ Neither will your name any more be called Abram, but your name will be Abraham; for I will make you the father of a multitude of nations. ⁶ I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you. Kings will come out of you. ⁷ I will establish my covenant between me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you. ⁸ I will give to you, and to your descendants after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and I will be their God." ⁹ God said to Abraham, "As for you, you are to keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations. ¹⁰ This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your descendants after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. ¹¹ You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin. It will be a sign of the covenant between me and you. ¹² He who is eight days old will be circumcised among you, every male throughout your generations, he who is born in the house, or bought with money from any foreigner who is not of your descendants. ¹³ He who is born in your house, and he who is bought with your money, must be circumcised. My covenant will be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. ¹⁴ And the uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin on the eighth day, that person shall be cut off from his people. He has broken my covenant." ¹⁵ God said to Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but her name will be Sarah. ¹⁶ And I will bless her, and moreover I will give you a son by her. And I will bless her, and she will be a mother of nations. Kings of peoples will come from her." ¹⁷ Then Abraham fell on his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, "Will a child be born to him who is one hundred years old? Will Sarah, who is ninety years old, give birth?" ¹⁸ Abraham said to God, "Oh that Ishmael might live before you." ¹⁹ And God said, "Truly, Sarah your wife will bear you a son, and you are to name him Isaac. And I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant and with his descendants after him. ²⁰ As for Ishmael, I have heard you. Look, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He will become the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation. ²¹ But my covenant I establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this set time next year." ²² When he finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham. ²³ Abraham took Ishmael his son, all who were born in his house, and all who were bought with his money; every male among the men of Abraham's house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the same day, as God had said to him. ²⁴ Abraham was ninety-nine years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. ²⁵ Ishmael, his son, was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. ²⁶ In the same day both Abraham and Ishmael, his son, were circumcised. ²⁷ All the men of his house, those born in the house, and those bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.

²² Hanoch walked with God after he became the father of Methuselah two hundred years, and fathered sons and daughters.

²⁴ Hanoch walked with God, and then he was not there, for God took him.

⁹ These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time. Noah walked with God.

¹ Now God had said to Abram, "Go out from your country, and from your relatives, and from your father's house, to the land that I will show you.

⁷ Then God appeared to Abram and said to him, "I will give this land to your offspring." He built an altar there to God, who appeared to him.

¹⁶ Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to Abram.

¹ And God appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the entrance to the tent in the heat of the day.

¹⁴ Is anything too difficult for God? At the set time I will return to you, at the time of life, and Sarah will have a son."

³ May El Shaddai bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, that you may be a company of peoples,

¹¹ And God said to him, "I am El Shaddai. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations will come from you, and kings will come from your body.

¹⁵ Then he blessed Joseph, and said, "The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day,

³ And I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as El Shaddai, but I did not make myself known to them by my name 'the LORD.'

²³ The LORD said to Moses, "Has the LORD's hand grown short? Now you will see whether my word will happen to you or not."

¹⁷ For the LORD your God, he is God of gods, and Lord of lords, the great God, the mighty, and the awesome, who doesn't respect persons, nor takes reward.

¹³ You shall be blameless before the LORD your God.

⁴ That the LORD may establish his word which he spoke concerning me, saying, 'If your children take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail you,' he said, 'a man on the throne of Israel.'

⁶ Solomon said, "You have shown to your servant David my father great loving kindness, according as he walked before you in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with you. You have kept for him this great loving kindness, that you have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.

²⁵ Now therefore, may the LORD, the God of Israel, keep with your servant David my father that which you have promised him, saying, 'There shall not fail you a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel, if only your children take heed to their way, to walk before me as you have walked before me.'

³ "Remember now, LORD, I beg you, how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in your sight." Hezekiah wept bitterly.

¹ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job, and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God, and turning away from evil.

⁷ "Can you fathom the mystery of God? Or can you probe the limits of Shaddai?

³ But our God is in the heavens. He does whatever he pleases.

⁹ I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living.

³ and said, "Remember now, the LORD, I beg you, how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in your sight." Hezekiah wept bitterly.

¹⁷ 'Ah, Lord GOD. Look, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm; there is nothing too difficult for you,

³⁵ All the inhabitants of the earth are regarded as nothing; and he does according to his will in the host of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand, or tell him, "What have you done?"

⁸ He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does the LORD require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

⁴⁸ You therefore are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

²⁶ Looking at them, Jesus said, "With humans this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

⁶ They were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord.

¹ Paul, looking steadfastly at the council, said, "Brothers, I have lived before God in all good conscience until this day."

¹⁶ This being so, I also do my best to always have a clear conscience toward God and people.

²⁰ Now to him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,

¹³ I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

²⁵ Therefore he is also able to save completely those who draw near to God through him, seeing that he lives forever to make intercession for them.

²⁸ So since we are receiving a Kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us give thanks, through which we may offer service pleasing to God, with reverence and awe,

⁹ "And as for me, look, I establish my covenant with you, and with your offspring after you,

² And I will make of you a great nation. And I will bless you and make your name great. And you will be a blessing.

¹⁶ I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if one can count the dust of the earth, then your offspring also could be counted.

¹⁸ On that day God made a covenant with Abram, saying, "To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Perath:

⁴ "As for me, look, my covenant is with you. You will be the father of a multitude of nations. ⁵ Neither will your name any more be called Abram, but your name will be Abraham; for I will make you the father of a multitude of nations. ⁶ I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you. Kings will come out of you.

¹⁷ I will indeed bless you, and I will greatly multiply your offspring like the stars of the sky, and like the sand which is on the seashore; and your offspring will possess the gate of their enemies.

⁸ He has remembered his covenant forever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations, ⁹ the covenant which he made with Abraham, his oath to Isaac, ¹⁰ and confirmed the same to Jacob for a statute; to Israel for an everlasting covenant, ¹¹ saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance;"

¹⁷ Now I say this: the law, which came four hundred thirty years later, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to cancel the promise. ¹⁸ For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no more of promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by promise.

¹⁷ Then Abraham fell on his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, "Will a child be born to him who is one hundred years old? Will Sarah, who is ninety years old, give birth?"

⁶ Moreover he said, "I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look at God.

²³ Moses and Aaron went into the Tent of Meeting, and came out, and blessed the people: and the glory of the LORD appeared to all the people. ²⁴ There came forth fire from before the LORD, and consumed the burnt offering and the fat upon the altar: and when all the people saw it, they shouted, and fell on their faces.

⁵ Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.

²² They fell on their faces, and said, "God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and will you be angry with all the congregation?"

⁴⁵ "Get away from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment." They fell on their faces.

¹⁴ And he said to him, "Truly I am the commander of the army of the LORD. Now I have come." And Joshua fell facedown to the ground and worshipped, and said to him, "What does my lord say to his servant?"

²⁰ For it happened, when the flame went up toward the sky from off the altar, that the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on, and they fell on their faces to the ground.

³⁹ And when all the people saw it, they fell facedown and said, "The LORD, he is God. The LORD, he is God."

But he said to me, "Understand, son of man, that the vision belongs to the time of the end." ¹⁸ Now as he was speaking with me, I fell into a deep sleep with my face toward the ground; but he touched me, and stood me upright.

All these were the children of Keturah. ⁵ And Abraham gave all that he owned to his son Isaac, ⁶ and to the sons of Abraham's secondary wives, Abraham gave gifts. He sent them away from Isaac his son, while he was still living, eastward, to the east country. ⁷ This was the length of Abrahamʼs life: one hundred seventy-five years. ⁸ Abraham breathed his last, and died in a good old age, an old man and satisfied, and was gathered to his people. ⁹ Isaac and Ishmael, his sons, buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron, the son of Zohar the Hethite, which is near Mamre, ¹⁰ the field which Abraham purchased from the sons of Heth. Abraham was buried there with Sarah, his wife. ¹¹ It happened after the death of Abraham that God blessed Isaac, his son. Isaac lived by Beer Lahai Roi. ¹² Now these are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's servant, bore to Abraham. ¹³ These are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to the order of their birth: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebaioth, then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, ¹⁴ Mishma, Dumah, Massa, ¹⁵ Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. ¹⁶ These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their villages, and by their encampments: twelve princes, according to their clans. ¹⁷ These are the years of the life of Ishmael: one hundred thirty-seven years. He breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people. ¹⁸ They lived from Havilah to Shur, which is near Egypt, all the way to Asshur. He settled near all his kinsmen.

¹² You said, 'I will surely do you good and make your descendants as the sand of the sea, which canʼt be counted because there are so many.'"

¹ Now these are the generations of Esau (that is, Edom). ² Esau took his wives from the daughters of Canaan: Adah the daughter of Elon, the Hethite; and Oholibamah the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon, the Hivite; ³ and Basemath, Ishmael's daughter, sister of Nebaioth. ⁴ Adah bore to Esau Eliphaz. Basemath bore Reuel. ⁵ Oholibamah bore Jeush, and Jalam, and Korah. These are the sons of Esau, who were born to him in the land of Canaan. ⁶ Esau took his wives, his sons, his daughters, and all the people of his household, with his livestock, all his animals, and all of the property he had acquired in the land of Canaan, and went out from the land of Canaan away from the presence of his brother Jacob. ⁷ For their possessions were too great for them to remain together, and the land in which they were traveling could not support them because of their livestock. ⁸ And Esau (also known as Edom) settled in the hill country of Seir. ⁹ These are the generations of Esau the father of the Edomites in the hill country of Seir: ¹⁰ these are the names of Esau's sons: Eliphaz, the son of Adah, the wife of Esau; and Reuel, the son of Basemath, the wife of Esau. ¹¹ The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, and Gatam, and Kenaz. ¹² Timna was the secondary wife to Eliphaz, Esauʼs son; and she bore to Eliphaz Amalek. Lotanʼs sister was Timna. ²³ These are the sons of Shobal: Alvan, and Manahath, and Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. ²⁴ These are the sons of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah. This is the Anah who found the hot springs in the desert as he pastured the donkeys of his father Zibeon. ²⁵ These are the sons of Anah: Dishon, and Oholibamah the daughter of Anah. ²⁶ These are the sons of Dishon: Hemdan, and Eshban, and Ithran, and Keran. ²⁷ These are the sons of Ezer: Bilhan, and Zaavan, and Akan. ²⁸ These are the sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran. ²⁹ These are the chiefs of the Horites: chief Lotan, chief Shobal, chief Zibeon, chief Anah, ³⁰ chief Dishon, chief Ezer, and chief Dishan: these are the chiefs who came of the Horites, according to their chiefs in the land of Seir. ³¹ These are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom, before any king reigned over the children of Israel. ³² Bela the son of Beor reigned in Edom. The name of his city was Dinhabah. ³³ When Bela died, and Jobab, the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his place. ³⁴ And Jobab died, and Husham of the land of the Temanites reigned in his place. ³⁵ And Husham died, and Hadad the son of Bedad who struck Midian in the field of Moab reigned in his place. The name of his city was Avith. ³⁶ And Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his place. ³⁷ And Samlah died, and Shaul of Rehoboth-on-the-River reigned in his place. ³⁸ And Shaul died, and Baal Hanan the son of Achbor reigned in his place. ³⁹ And Baal Hanan the son of Achbor died, and Hadad reigned in his place. The name of his city was Pau. His wifeʼs name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-Zahab. ⁴⁰ These are the names of the chiefs who came from Esau, according to their families, according to their places, and by their names: chief Timna, chief Alvah, chief Jetheth, ⁴¹ chief Oholibamah, chief Elah, chief Pinon, ⁴² chief Kenaz, chief Teman, chief Mibzar, ⁴³ chief Magdiel, and chief Iram. These are the chiefs of Edom, according to their settlements in the land they possessed. This is Esau the father of Edom.

¹⁹ But his father refused, and said, "I know, my son, I know. He also will become a people, and he also will be great. However, his younger brother will be greater than he, and his descendants will become a multitude of nations."

¹ The LORD spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the Tent of Meeting, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying, ² "Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Israel, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, every male, one by one; ³ from twenty years old and upward, all who are able to go out to war in Israel. You and Aaron shall number them by their divisions. ⁴ With you there shall be a man of every tribe; everyone head of his fathers' house. ⁵ These are the names of the men who shall stand with you: Of Reuben: Elizur the son of Shedeur. ⁶ Of Simeon: Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai. ⁷ Of Judah: Nahshon the son of Amminadab. ⁸ Of Issachar: Nethanel the son of Zuar. ⁹ Of Zebulun: Eliab the son of Helon. ¹⁰ Of the sons Joseph: Of Ephraim: Elishama the son of Ammihud. Of Manasseh: Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur. ¹¹ Of Benjamin: Abidan the son of Gideoni. ¹² Of Dan: Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai. ¹³ Of Asher: Pagiel the son of Ochran. ¹⁴ Of Gad: Eliasaph the son of Reuel. ¹⁵ Of Naphtali: Ahira the son of Enan." ¹⁶ These are those who were called of the congregation, the leaders of the tribes of their fathers; they were the heads of the thousands of Israel. ¹⁷ Moses and Aaron took these men who are mentioned by name. ¹⁸ They assembled all the congregation together on the first day of the second month; and they declared their ancestry by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, one by one. ¹⁹ As the LORD commanded Moses, so he numbered them in the wilderness of Sinai. ²⁰ Now the descendants of Reuben, Israelʼs firstborn, their generations, according to their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, one by one, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war; ²¹ those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Reuben, were forty-six thousand five hundred. ²² Of the descendants of Simeon, their generations, according to their families, by their fathers' houses, those who were numbered of it, according to the number of the names, one by one, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war; ²³ those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Simeon, were fifty-nine thousand three hundred. ²⁴ Of the descendants of Gad, their generations, according to their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war; ²⁵ those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Gad, were forty-five thousand six hundred fifty. ²⁶ Of the descendants of Judah, their generations, according to their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war; ²⁷ those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Judah, were sixty-four thousand six hundred. ²⁸ Of the descendants of Issachar, their generations, according to their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war; ²⁹ those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Issachar, were fifty-four thousand four hundred. ³⁰ Of the descendants of Zebulun, their generations, according to their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war; ³¹ those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Zebulun, were fifty-seven thousand four hundred. ³² Of the sons of Joseph, of the descendants of Ephraim, their generations, according to their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war; ³³ those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Ephraim, were forty thousand five hundred. ³⁴ Of the descendants of Manasseh, their generations, according to their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war; ³⁵ those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Manasseh, were thirty-two thousand two hundred. ³⁶ Of the descendants of Benjamin, their generations, according to their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war; ³⁷ those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Benjamin, were thirty-five thousand four hundred. ³⁸ Of the descendants of Dan, their generations, according to their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go forth to war; ³⁹ those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Dan, were sixty-two thousand seven hundred. ⁴⁰ Of the descendants of Asher, their generations, according to their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go forth to war; ⁴¹ those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Asher, were forty-one thousand five hundred. ⁴² Of the descendants of Naphtali, their generations, according to their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go forth to war; ⁴³ those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Naphtali, were fifty-three thousand four hundred. ⁴⁴ These are those who were numbered, whom Moses and Aaron numbered, and the leaders of Israel, being twelve men; each representing his fathers' house. ⁴⁵ So all those who were numbered of the children of Israel by their fathers' houses, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war in Israel; ⁴⁶ even all those who were numbered were six hundred three thousand five hundred fifty. ⁴⁷ But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them. ⁴⁸ For the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ⁴⁹ "Only the tribe of Levi you shall not number, neither shall you take a census of them among the children of Israel; ⁵⁰ but appoint the Levites over the Tabernacle of the Testimony, and over all its furnishings, and over all that belongs to it. They shall carry the tabernacle, and all its furnishings; and they shall take care of it, and shall camp around it. ⁵¹ When the tabernacle is to move, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites shall set it up. The unauthorized person who comes near shall be put to death. ⁵² The children of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, according to their divisions. ⁵³ But the Levites shall camp around the Tabernacle of the Testimony, that there may be no wrath on the congregation of the children of Israel: and the Levites shall be responsible for the Tabernacle of the Testimony." ⁵⁴ Thus the children of Israel did. According to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so they did.

¹ It happened after the plague, that the LORD spoke to Moses and to Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, saying, ² "Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Israel, from twenty years old and upward, by their fathers' houses, all who are able to go forth to war in Israel." ³ Moses and Eleazar the priest spoke with them in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying, ⁴ "Take a census, from twenty years old and upward; as the LORD commanded Moses and the children of Israel." These are those that came out of the land of Egypt. ⁵ Reuben, the firstborn of Israel; the descendants of Reuben: of Hanoch, the family of the Hanochites; of Pallu, the family of the Palluites; ⁶ of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites; of Carmi, the family of the Carmites. ⁷ These are the families of the Reubenites; and those who were numbered of them were forty-three thousand seven hundred thirty. ⁸ The sons of Pallu: Eliab. ⁹ The sons of Eliab: Nemuel, and Dathan, and Abiram. These are that Dathan and Abiram, who were called of the congregation, who strove against Moses and against Aaron in the company of Korah, when they strove against the LORD, ¹⁰ and the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up together with Korah, when that company died; what time the fire devoured two hundred fifty men, and they became a sign. ¹¹ Notwithstanding, the sons of Korah did not die. ¹² The descendants of Simeon after their families: of Jemuel, the family of the Jemuelites; of Jamin, the family of the Jaminites; of Jakin, the family of the Jakinites; ¹³ of Zohar, the family of the Zoharites; of Shaul, the family of the Shaulites. ¹⁴ These are the families of the Simeonites, twenty-two thousand two hundred. ¹⁵ The descendants of Gad after their families: of Zephon, the family of the Zephonites; of Haggi, the family of the Haggites; of Shuni, the family of the Shunites; ¹⁶ of Ezbon, the family of the Ezbonites; of Eri, the family of the Erites; ¹⁷ of Arodi, the family of the Arodites; of Areli, the family of the Arelites. ¹⁸ These are the families of the sons of Gad according to those who were numbered of them, forty thousand and five hundred. ¹⁹ The sons of Judah: Er and Onan; and Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. ²⁰ The descendants of Judah after their families were: of Shelah, the family of the Shelanites; of Perez, the family of the Perezites; of Zerah, the family of the Zerahites. ²¹ The sons of Perez were: of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites; of Hamuel, the family of the Hamuelites. ²² These are the families of Judah according to those who were numbered of them, seventy-six thousand five hundred. ²³ The descendants of Issachar after their families: of Tola, the family of the Tolaites; of Puah, the family of the Puites; ²⁴ of Jashub, the family of the Jashubites; of Shimron, the family of the Shimronites. ²⁵ These are the families of Issachar according to those who were numbered of them, sixty-four thousand three hundred. ²⁶ The descendants of Zebulun after their families: of Sered, the family of the Seredites; of Elon, the family of the Elonites; of Jahleel, the family of the Jahleelites. ²⁷ These are the families of the Zebulunites according to those who were numbered of them, sixty thousand five hundred. ²⁸ The sons of Joseph after their families: Manasseh and Ephraim. ²⁹ The descendants of Manasseh: of Makir, the family of the Makirites; and Makir became the father of Gilead; of Gilead, the family of the Gileadites. ³⁰ These are the descendants of Gilead: of Abiezer, the family of the Abiezerites; of Helek, the family of the Helekites; ³¹ and Asriel, the family of the Asrielites; and Shechem, the family of the Shechemites; ³² and Shemida, the family of the Shemidaites; and Hepher, the family of the Hepherites. ³³ Zelophehad the son of Hepher had no sons, but daughters; and these are the names of the daughters of Zelophehad: Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. ³⁴ These are the families of Manasseh; and those who were numbered of them were fifty-two thousand seven hundred. ³⁵ These are the descendants of Ephraim after their families: of Shuthelah, the family of the Shuthelahites; of Beker, the family of the Bekerites; of Tahan, the family of the Tahanites. ³⁶ These are the descendants of Shuthelah: of Eden, the family of the Edenites. ³⁷ These are the families of the descendants of Ephraim according to those who were numbered of them, thirty-two thousand five hundred. These are the descendants of Joseph after their families. ³⁸ The descendants of Benjamin after their families: of Bela, the family of the Belaites; of Ashbel, the family of the Ashbelites; of Ahiram, the family of the Ahiramites; ³⁹ of Shuppim, the family of the Shuppimites; of Huppim, the family of the Huppimites. ⁴⁰ The sons of Bela were Ard and Naaman: of Ard, the family of the Ardites; of Naaman, the family of the Naamanites. ⁴¹ These are the descendants of Benjamin after their families; and those who were numbered of them were forty-five thousand six hundred. ⁴² These are the descendants of Dan after their families: of Shuham, the family of the Shuhamites. These are the families of Dan after their families. ⁴³ All the families of the Shuhamites, according to those who were numbered of them, were sixty-four thousand four hundred. ⁴⁴ The descendants of Asher after their families: of Imnah, the family of the Jimnaites; of Jishvi, the family of the Jishvites; of Beriah, the family of the Berites. ⁴⁵ Of the descendants of Beriah: of Heber, the family of the Heberites; of Malkiel, the family of the Malkielites. ⁴⁶ The name of the daughter of Asher was Serah. ⁴⁷ These are the families of the descendants of Asher according to those who were numbered of them, fifty-three thousand and four hundred. ⁴⁸ The descendants of Naphtali after their families: of Jahzeel, the family of the Jahzeelites; of Guni, the family of the Gunites; ⁴⁹ of Jezer, the family of the Jezerites; of Shillem, the family of the Shillemites. ⁵⁰ These are the families of Naphtali according to their families; and those who were numbered of them were forty-five thousand four hundred. ⁵¹ These are those who were numbered of the children of Israel, six hundred one thousand seven hundred thirty. ⁵² The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ⁵³ "To these the land shall be divided for an inheritance according to the number of names. ⁵⁴ To the more you shall give the more inheritance, and to the fewer you shall give the less inheritance: to everyone according to those who were numbered of him shall his inheritance be given. ⁵⁵ Notwithstanding, the land shall be divided by lot: according to the names of the tribes of their fathers they shall inherit. ⁵⁶ According to the lot shall their inheritance be divided between the more and the fewer." ⁵⁷ These are those who were numbered of the Levites after their families: of Gershon, the family of the Gershonites; of Kohath, the family of the Kohathites; of Merari, the family of the Merarites. ⁵⁸ These are the families of Levi: the family of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, the family of the Mushites, the family of the Korahites. Kohath became the father of Amram. ⁵⁹ The name of Amram's wife was Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, who was born to Levi in Egypt: and she bore to Amram Aaron and Moses, and Miriam their sister. ⁶⁰ To Aaron were born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. ⁶¹ Nadab and Abihu died, when they offered strange fire before the LORD. ⁶² Those who were numbered of them were twenty-three thousand, every male from a month old and upward: for they were not numbered among the children of Israel, because there was no inheritance given them among the children of Israel. ⁶³ These are those who were numbered by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who numbered the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho. ⁶⁴ But among these there was not a man of them who were numbered by Moses and Aaron the priest, who numbered the children of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai. ⁶⁵ For the LORD had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. There was not left a man of them, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

¹¹ He received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while he was in uncircumcision, so that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they be in uncircumcision, that righteousness might also be credited to them. ¹² The father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had in uncircumcision. ¹³ For the promise to Abraham and to his descendants that he should be heir of the world was not through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. ¹⁴ For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void, and the promise is made of no effect. ¹⁵ For the law works wrath, for where there is no law, neither is there disobedience. ¹⁶ For this cause it is of faith, that it may be according to grace, to the end that the promise may be sure to all the descendants, not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all. ¹⁷ As it is written, "I have made you a father of many nations." This is in the presence of him whom he believed: God, who gives life to the dead, and calls the things that are not, as though they were. ¹⁸ Who hoped in spite of hopeless circumstances, with the result that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which had been spoken, "so will your descendants be."

²⁸ There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. ²⁹ If you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring and heirs according to promise.

¹⁵ God said to Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but her name will be Sarah.

²⁸ Then he said, "Your name will no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have prevailed."

¹⁶ These are the names of the men who Moses sent to spy out the land. Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua.

²⁵ and he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he named him Jedidiah, for the LORD's sake.

⁷ You are the LORD, the God who chose Abram, and brought him out of Ur Kasdim, and gave him the name of Abraham,

² The nations shall see your righteousness, and all kings your glory, and you shall be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name. ³ You shall also be a crown of beauty in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. ⁴ And you shall no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall your land any more be termed Desolate: but you shall be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; for the LORD delights in you, and your land shall be married.

¹⁵ You shall leave your name for a curse to my chosen; and the Lord GOD will kill you; and he will call his servants by another name:

³ It happened on the next day, that Pashhur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then Jeremiah said to him, "The LORD has not called your name 'Pashhur,' but 'Magor-Missabib.'

⁶ In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely; and this is his name by which he shall be called: 'The LORD our righteousness.'

²¹ And she will bring forth a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins." ²² Now all this has happened, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, ²³ "Look, the virgin will conceive and bear a son, and they will call his name Immanuel;" which is translated, "God with us."

⁴² He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him, and said, "You are Simon the son of John. You will be called Cephas" (which is translated, Peter).

¹⁷ As it is written, "I have made you a father of many nations." This is in the presence of him whom he believed: God, who gives life to the dead, and calls the things that are not, as though they were.

¹⁷ He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, to him I will give of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written, which no one knows but he who receives it.

⁴ "As for me, look, my covenant is with you. You will be the father of a multitude of nations.

¹⁶ And I will bless her, and moreover I will give you a son by her. And I will bless her, and she will be a mother of nations. Kings of peoples will come from her."

²⁰ As for Ishmael, I have heard you. Look, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He will become the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.

²⁰ There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, who have ruled over all the country beyond the River; and tribute, custom, and toll, was paid to them.

⁶ and Jesse the father of David the king. And David was the father of Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah; ⁷ and Solomon was the father of Rehoboam, and Rehoboam the father of Abijah, and Abijah the father of Asa; ⁸ and Asa the father of Jehoshaphat, and Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, and Joram the father of Uzziah, ⁹ and Uzziah the father of Jotham, and Jotham the father of Ahaz, and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah; ¹⁰ and Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, and Manasseh the father of Amon, and Amon the father of Josiah, ¹¹ and Josiah the father of Jechoniah and his brothers, at the time of the exile to Babylon. ¹² And after the exile to Babylon, Jechoniah was the father of Shealtiel, and Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, ¹³ and Zerubbabel the father of Abihud, and Abihud the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim the father of Azzur, ¹⁴ and Azzur the father of Zadok, and Zadok the father of Ahiam, and Ahiam the father of Elihud, ¹⁵ and Elihud the father of Eleazar, and Eleazar the father of Matthan, and Matthan the father of Jacob, ¹⁶ and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, from whom was born Jesus, who is called the Christ. ¹⁷ So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David to the exile to Babylon fourteen generations; and from the exile to Babylon to the Christ, fourteen generations.

²⁴ And God appeared to him the same night, and said, "I am the God of Abraham your father. Do not be afraid, for I am with you, and will bless you, and multiply your descendants for my servant Abraham's sake."

¹³ And look, the LORD stood above it, and said, "I am the God of Abraham your grandfather, and the God of Isaac. The land on which you are lying I will give to you and to your descendants.

¹⁵ And God said moreover to Moses, "You shall tell the children of Israel this, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.' This is my name forever, and this is how I am to be remembered from generation to generation.

⁴ And I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their sojournings, in which they were foreigners.

⁵ Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice, and keep my covenant, then you shall be my own possession from among all peoples; for all the earth is mine; ⁶ and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation.' These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel."

¹² I will walk among you, and will be your God, and you will be my people.

¹⁰ I am the LORD, your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.

²⁶ They shall dwell securely in it; yes, they shall build houses, and plant vineyards, and shall dwell securely, when I have executed judgments on all those who do them despite all around them; and they shall know that I am the LORD their God.'"

²⁰ You will give truth to Jacob, and mercy to Abraham, as you have sworn to our fathers from the days of old.

³² 'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?' God is not the God of the dead, but of the living."

¹⁴ But when Jesus saw it, he was moved with indignation, and said to them, "Allow the little children to come to me. Do not forbid them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

⁵⁴ He has given help to Israel, his servant, that he might remember mercy, ⁵⁵ As he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and his offspring forever."

⁷² to show mercy towards our fathers, to remember his holy covenant, ⁷³ the oath which he spoke to Abraham, our father, ⁷⁴ to grant to us that we, being delivered out of the hand of our enemies, should serve him without fear, ⁷⁵ In holiness and righteousness before him all our days.

³⁹ For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all who are far off, even as many as the Lord our God will call to himself."

⁴ who are Israelites; whose is the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service, and the promises;

⁷ Neither, because they are Abraham's descendants, are they all children. But, "In Isaac will your descendants be called." ⁸ That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as descendants. ⁹ For this is what the promise said, "At the appointed time I will come, and Sarah will have a son."

¹⁶ Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his offspring. He does not say, "And to offsprings," as of many, but as of one, "And to your offspring," which is Christ. ¹⁷ Now I say this: the law, which came four hundred thirty years later, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to cancel the promise.

² in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the children of disobedience;

¹⁰ "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel. After those days," says the Lord; "I will put my laws into their mind, I will also write them on their heart. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

¹⁶ Instead, they were longing for a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

¹⁵ for all the land which you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever.

¹⁷ Arise, walk through the land in its length and in its breadth; for I will give it to you."

⁷ And he said to him, "I am God, who brought you out of Ur Kasdim to give you this land to possess." ⁸ But he said, "Lord, how can I know that I will possess it?" ⁹ And he said to him, "Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon." ¹⁰ He brought him all of these, and divided them in the middle, and placed each half opposite the other; but he did not divide the birds. ¹¹ And the birds of prey came down on the carcasses, but Abram drove them away. ¹² When the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram. And look, a terror of great darkness fell on him. ¹³ And he said to Abram, "Know for certain that your descendants will live as foreigners in a land that is not theirs; and they will be enslaved there. And they will oppress them four hundred years. ¹⁴ But I will also judge that nation whom they will serve. And afterward they will come out with many possessions. ¹⁵ But you will go to your fathers in peace. You will be buried in a good old age. ¹⁶ In the fourth generation they will come here again, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete." ¹⁷ It came to pass that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, look, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces. ¹⁸ On that day God made a covenant with Abram, saying, "To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Perath: ¹⁹ the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, ²⁰ the Hethites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, ²¹ the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hivites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites."

⁴ "I am a stranger and a foreigner living with you. Give me a possession of a burying-place with you, that I may remove my dead for burial."

⁴ and give you the blessing of Abraham, to you, and to your descendants with you, that you may inherit the land where you travel, which God gave to Abraham."

⁴ and said to me, 'Look, I will make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will make of you a company of peoples, and will give this land to your descendants after you as an everlasting possession.'

⁷ and I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God; and you shall know that I am the LORD your God, who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

⁶ then his master shall bring him to God, and shall bring him to the door or to the doorpost, and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl, and he shall serve him for ever.

¹⁶ Therefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. ¹⁷ It is a sign between me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.'"

¹⁵ You shall anoint them, as you anointed their father, that they may minister to me in the priest's office. Their anointing shall be to them for an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations."

³⁴ "This shall be an everlasting statute for you, to make atonement for the children of Israel once in the year because of all their sins." It was done as the LORD commanded Moses.

¹³ and it shall be to him, and to his descendants after him, the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was jealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel.'"

³⁷ Because he loved your fathers, therefore he chose their descendants after them, and brought you out with his presence, with his great power, out of Egypt;

² For you are a holy people to the LORD your God, and the LORD has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples who are on the face of the earth.

¹⁸ and the LORD has declared you this day to be a people for his own possession, as he has promised you, and that you should keep all his commandments;

¹³ so that he may establish you today as his people, and that he may your God, as he spoke to you and as he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

⁸ When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, when he divided humankind, he set the bounds of the peoples according to the number of the sons of God.

⁵ Most certainly my house is not so with God, yet he has made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure, for it is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he doesn't make it grow.

¹⁷ But the LORD's loving kindness is from everlasting to everlasting with those who fear him, his righteousness to children's children;

⁹ the covenant which he made with Abraham, his oath to Isaac,

¹¹ saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance;"

¹⁵ For this reason he is the mediator of a new covenant, since a death has occurred for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first covenant, that those who have been called may receive the promise of the everlasting inheritance.

¹⁰ All the paths of the LORD are loving kindness and truth to those who keep his covenant and his testimonies.

¹⁸ to those who keep his covenant, to those who remember to obey his precepts.

⁴ For thus says the LORD, "To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and hold fast my covenant: ⁵ to them I will give in my house and within my walls a memorial and a name better than of sons and of daughters; I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.

¹¹ You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin. It will be a sign of the covenant between me and you.

¹⁵ Only on this condition will we agree with you; that you become like us by circumcising all your males;

²⁵ Then Zipporah took a flint, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet; and she said, "Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me."

⁴⁸ When a stranger shall live as a foreigner with you, and will keep the Passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one who is born in the land: but no uncircumcised person shall eat of it.

¹⁶ Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiff-necked.

⁶ The LORD your God will circumcise your heart, and the heart of your descendants, to love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, that you may live.

² At that time, the LORD said to Joshua, "Make flint knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time."

⁴ This is the reason Joshua circumcised: all the people who came out of Egypt, who were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt.

⁴ Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, you men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem; lest my wrath go forth like fire, and burn so that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

²⁵ "Look, the days come," says the LORD, "that I will punish all those who are circumcised in uncircumcision: ²⁶ Egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the people of Ammon, and Moab, and all that have the corners of their hair cut off, who dwell in the wilderness; for all the nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in heart."

²² Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a boy.

⁸ He gave him the covenant of circumcision. So Abraham became the father of Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day. Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob became the father of the twelve patriarchs.

²⁸ For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, neither is that circumcision which is outward in the flesh;

²⁵ whom God set forth whom God displayed publicly as a mercy seat, through faith in his blood, for a demonstration of his righteousness, because in God's forbearance he had passed over the sins previously committed;

²⁸ For we maintain that one is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.

³⁰ since indeed there is one God who will justify the circumcised by faith, and the uncircumcised through faith.

⁹ Is this blessing then pronounced on the circumcised, or on the uncircumcised also? For we say that faith was credited to Abraham as righteousness. ¹⁰ How then was it credited? When he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision. ¹¹ He received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while he was in uncircumcision, so that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they be in uncircumcision, that righteousness might also be credited to them.

¹⁸ Was anyone called having been circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Has anyone been called in uncircumcision? Let him not be circumcised. ¹⁹ Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.

²⁸ There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

³ Yes, I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. ⁴ You are alienated from Christ, you who desire to be justified by the law. You have fallen away from grace. ⁵ For we, through the Spirit, by faith wait for the hope of righteousness. ⁶ For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision amounts to anything, nor uncircumcision, but faith working through love.

¹² As many as desire to make a good showing in the flesh, they compel you to be circumcised; only that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ.

¹¹ Therefore remember that once you, the non-Jews in the flesh, who are called "uncircumcision" by that which is called "circumcision," (in the flesh, made by hands);

³ For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh;

¹¹ in whom you were also circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ; ¹² having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.

³ Joshua made himself flint knives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the Hill of the Foreskins.

²⁵ Saul said, "You shall tell David, 'The king desires no dowry except one hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king's enemies.'" Now Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines. ²⁶ When his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king's son-in-law. The days were not expired; ²⁷ and David arose and went, he and his men, and killed of the Philistines one hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full number to the king, that he might be the king's son-in-law. Then Saul gave him Mikal his daughter as wife.

¹⁴ David sent messengers to Ishbaal, Saul's son, saying, "Give me my wife Mikal, whom I betrothed to myself for one hundred foreskins of the Philistines."

¹¹ He received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while he was in uncircumcision, so that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they be in uncircumcision, that righteousness might also be credited to them.

²³ Abraham took Ishmael his son, all who were born in his house, and all who were bought with his money; every male among the men of Abraham's house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the same day, as God had said to him.

⁴ Abraham circumcised his son, Isaac, when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.

⁴⁸ When a stranger shall live as a foreigner with you, and will keep the Passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one who is born in the land: but no uncircumcised person shall eat of it. ⁴⁹ One law shall be to him who is born at home, and to the stranger who lives as a foreigner among you."

³ In the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.

⁵⁹ It happened on the eighth day, that they came to circumcise the child; and they would have called him Zechariah, after the name of the father.

²¹ When eight days were fulfilled to circumcise him, his name was called Jesus, which was given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

²² Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a boy. ²³ If a boy receives circumcision on the Sabbath, that the Law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me, because I made a man completely healthy on the Sabbath?

²⁸ For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, neither is that circumcision which is outward in the flesh;

⁵ circumcised the eighth day, of the nation of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; concerning the law, a Pharisee;

¹⁴ When Abram heard that his relative was taken captive, he mobilized his trained men, born in his house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued as far as Dan.

³ Then Abram said, "Look, to me you have given no offspring, and look, one born in my house is my heir."

²⁷ Come, and letʼs sell him to the Ishmaelites, and not lay a hand on him, for he is our brother, our flesh." And his brothers agreed.

³⁶ Now the Midianites sold him into Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard.

¹ Now Joseph was brought down to Egypt, and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaohʼs, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had brought him down there.

⁴⁴ but every man's servant who is bought for money, when you have circumcised him, then shall he eat of it.

² "If you buy a Hebrew servant, he shall serve six years and in the seventh he shall go out free without paying anything.

⁴ If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out by himself.

¹⁶ "Anyone who kidnaps someone and sells him, or if he is found in his possession, he shall surely be put to death.

⁵ Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brothers, our children as their children. Look, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters have been brought into bondage. Neither is it in our power to help it; for other men have our fields and our vineyards."

⁸ I said to them, "We, after our ability, have redeemed our brothers the Jews that were sold to the nations; and would you even sell your brothers, and should they be sold to us?" Then they held their peace, and found never a word.

²⁵ But because he could not pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, with his wife and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.

²⁴ It happened on the way at a lodging place, that the LORD met him and wanted to kill him. ²⁵ Then Zipporah took a flint, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet; and she said, "Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me." ²⁶ So he let him alone. Then she said, "You are a bridegroom of blood," because of the circumcision.

¹⁵ "'Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread; even the first day you shall put away yeast out of your houses, for whoever eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel.

¹⁹ Seven days shall there be no yeast found in your houses, for whoever eats that which is leavened, that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a foreigner, or one who is born in the land.

³³ Whoever compounds any like it, or whoever puts any of it on a stranger, he shall be cut off from his people.'"

³⁸ Whoever shall make any like that, to smell of it, he shall be cut off from his people."

²⁰ but the soul who eats of the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings, that belongs to the LORD, having his uncleanness on him, that soul shall be cut off from his people. ²¹ When anyone touches any unclean thing, the uncleanness of man, or an unclean animal, or any unclean abomination, and eats some of the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings, which belong to the LORD, that soul shall be cut off from his people.'"

²⁵ For whoever eats the fat of the animal, of which men offer an offering made by fire to the LORD, even the soul who eats it shall be cut off from his people.

²⁷ Whoever it is who eats any blood, that soul shall be cut off from his people.'"

²⁹ "'For whoever shall do any of these abominations, even the souls that do them shall be cut off from among their people.

⁸ but everyone who eats it shall bear his iniquity, because he has profaned the holy thing of the LORD, and that soul shall be cut off from his people.

³⁰ "'But the person who acts defiantly, whether he is native-born or a foreigner, the same blasphemes God, and that person is to be cut off from among his people. ³¹ Because he has despised the word of the LORD, and has broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be on him.'"

² At that time, the LORD said to Joshua, "Make flint knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time." ³ Joshua made himself flint knives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the Hill of the Foreskins. ⁴ This is the reason Joshua circumcised: all the people who came out of Egypt, who were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt. ⁵ For all the people who came out were circumcised; but all the people who were born in the wilderness by the way as they came out of Egypt had not been circumcised. ⁶ For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, until all the nation, that is, the men of war who came out of Egypt, perished, because they did not listen to the voice of the LORD, those to whom the LORD swore that they would not see the land which the LORD swore to their ancestors that he would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey. ⁷ And their children, whom he raised up in their place, were circumcised by Joshua; for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them on the way. ⁸ And it happened, when they were done circumcising all the nation, that they stayed in their places in the camp until they were healed. ⁹ And the LORD said to Joshua, "Today I have rolled away the disgrace of Egypt from off you." Therefore the name of that place was called Gilgal, to this day. ¹⁰ The children of Israel camped in Gilgal. They kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month at evening in the plains of Jericho. ¹¹ They ate unleavened cakes and parched grain of the produce of the land on the next day after the Passover, in the same day. ¹² The manna ceased on the next day, after they had eaten of the produce of the land. The children of Israel did not have manna any more; but they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

²⁰ He has stretched out his hand against those who were at peace with him. He has violated his covenant.

⁵ The earth also is polluted under its inhabitants, because they have transgressed the law, violated the statute, and broken the everlasting covenant.

⁸ The highways are desolate, the traveler ceases. He has broken the covenant, he has despised the witnesses; he has no regard for man.

¹⁰ They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear my words; and they are gone after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.

³² not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they broke, and I disregarded them," says the LORD.

²⁷ Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks the Lord's cup in a manner unworthy will be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord.

²⁹ For he who eats and drinks eats and drinks judgment to himself, if he does not discern the body.

⁵ Neither will your name any more be called Abram, but your name will be Abraham; for I will make you the father of a multitude of nations.

²⁸ And God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the flying creatures of the sky, and over all the tame animals, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over all the creatures that crawl on the earth."

⁶ I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you. Kings will come out of you.

¹⁰ Then he said, "I will certainly return to you at the time of life. Look, Sarah your wife will have a son." Sarah heard from the entrance of the tent, which was behind him. ¹¹ Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age. Sarah was past the age of childbearing. ¹² Sarah laughed within herself, saying, "After I have grown old will I have pleasure, my husband being old also?" ¹³ The LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh, saying, 'Will I really bear a child when I am old?' ¹⁴ Is anything too difficult for God? At the set time I will return to you, at the time of life, and Sarah will have a son."

⁶⁰ They blessed Rebekah, and said to her, "Our sister, may you be the mother of thousands of ten thousands, and let your descendants possess the gate of those who hate them."

²³ Kings shall be your nursing fathers, and their queens your nursing mothers: they shall bow down to you with their faces to the earth, and lick the dust of your feet; and you shall know that I am the LORD; and those who wait for me shall not be disappointed."

⁹ For this is what the promise said, "At the appointed time I will come, and Sarah will have a son."

²⁶ But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother. ²⁷ For it is written, "Rejoice, you barren who do not bear. Break forth and shout, you that do not travail. For more are the children of the desolate than of her who has a husband." ²⁸ Now you, brothers, as Isaac was, are children of promise. ²⁹ But as then, he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so also it is now. ³⁰ However what does the Scripture say? "Cast out the slave woman and her son, for the son of the slave woman will not inherit with the son of the free woman." ³¹ So then, brothers, we are not children of a handmaid, but of the free woman.

⁶ as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose children you now are, if you do well, and are not put in fear by any terror.

³ Then Abram fell facedown, and God talked with him, saying,

¹² Sarah laughed within herself, saying, "After I have grown old will I have pleasure, my husband being old also?"

⁶ Sarah said, "God has made me laugh. Everyone who hears will laugh with me."

²⁴ There came forth fire from before the LORD, and consumed the burnt offering and the fat upon the altar: and when all the people saw it, they shouted, and fell on their faces.

¹⁸ I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water; because of all your sin which you sinned, in doing that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

²⁵ So I fell down before the LORD the forty days and forty nights that I fell down, because the LORD had said he would destroy you.

⁶ Joshua tore his clothes, and fell to the earth on his face before the ark of the LORD until the evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust on their heads.

¹⁶ David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the LORD standing between earth and the sky, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell on their faces.

²⁰ Then Job arose, and tore his robe, and shaved his head, and fell down with his face to the ground.

¹⁷ So he came near where I stood, and when he came I was frightened, and fell prostrate. But he said to me, "Understand, son of man, that the vision belongs to the time of the end."

¹¹ And they came into the house and saw the young child with Mary, his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered to him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

⁵⁶ Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day. He saw it, and was glad."

¹⁹ And not being weak in faith, he considered his own body, which was as good as dead (he being about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb. ²⁰ Yet, looking to the promise of God, he did not waver through unbelief, but grew strong through faith, giving glory to God,

⁸ Now when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.

¹⁶ The twenty-four elders, who sit on their thrones before God's throne, fell on their faces and worshiped God,

¹² From now on, when you till the ground, it won't yield its strength to you. You shall be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth."

¹⁴ Look, you have driven me out this day from the surface of the ground. I will be hidden from your face, and I will be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth. It will happen that whoever finds me will kill me."

⁶ Many say, "Who will show us any good?" LORD, lift up the light of your face upon us.

¹² As for me, you uphold me in my integrity, and set me in your presence forever.

² but your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.

³⁹ and I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their good, and of their children after them:

²¹ But my covenant I establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this set time next year."

² Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. ³ Abraham called his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac.

³ Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you. For to you, and to your descendants, I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.

¹⁶ He said, "At this season, when the time comes around, you will embrace a son." She said, "No, my lord, you man of God, do not lie to your handmaid." ¹⁷ The woman conceived, and bore a son at that season, when the time came around, as Elisha had said to her.

¹³ But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid, Zechariah, because your request has been heard, and your wife, Elizabeth, will bear you a son, and you are to name him John. ¹⁴ You will have joy and gladness; and many will rejoice at his birth. ¹⁵ For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and he will drink no wine nor strong drink. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb. ¹⁶ He will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord, their God. ¹⁷ He will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, 'to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,' and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord." ¹⁸ Zechariah said to the angel, "How can I be sure of this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years." ¹⁹ The angel answered him, "I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God. I was sent to speak to you, and to bring you this good news. ²⁰ And look, you will be silent and not able to speak, until the day that these things will happen, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time."

⁶ But it is not as though the word of God has come to nothing. For they are not all Israel, that are of Israel.

¹⁰ The angel of the LORD said to her, "I will greatly multiply your descendants, so that they will be too numerous to count." ¹¹ Then the angel of God said to her, "Look, you are with child, and will bear a son. You are to name him Ishmael, because God has heard your affliction. ¹² He will be like a wild donkey among men. His hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him. And he will live away from all of his brothers."

¹³ And I will also make a great nation of the son of the slave woman, because he is your offspring."

¹⁸ Get up, lift up the boy, and hold him by your hand. For I will make him a great nation."

¹⁰ Then he said, "I will certainly return to you at the time of life. Look, Sarah your wife will have a son." Sarah heard from the entrance of the tent, which was behind him.

¹⁰ Therefore she said to Abraham, "Cast out this slave woman and her son. For the son of this slave woman will not be heir with my son, Isaac." ¹¹ The thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight on account of his son. ¹² God said to Abraham, "Do not let it be grievous in your sight because of the boy, and because of your slave woman. In all that Sarah says to you, listen to her voice. For from Isaac will your descendants be called.

² And God appeared to him, and said, "Do not go down into Egypt. Live in the land I will tell you about. ³ Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you. For to you, and to your descendants, I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to Abraham your father. ⁴ I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the sky, and will give to your descendants all these lands, and by your descendants will all the nations of the earth be blessed, ⁵ because Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my requirements, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws."

¹ So Israel set out with all that he had and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.

²⁴ God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

¹³ "Oh that you would hide me in Sheol, that you would keep me secret, until your wrath is past, that you would appoint me a set time, and remember me.

⁵⁵ As he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and his offspring forever."

⁷² to show mercy towards our fathers, to remember his holy covenant,

⁷ He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has set within his own authority.

⁵ of whom are the patriarchs, and from whom is the Christ, as concerning the flesh, who is over all, God, blessed forever. Amen. ⁶ But it is not as though the word of God has come to nothing. For they are not all Israel, that are of Israel.

²⁹ If you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring and heirs according to promise.

⁹ By faith, he sojourned in a land of promise, as a foreigner, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise.

³³ The LORD went his way, as soon as he had finished speaking with Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.

⁹ And God appeared to Jacob again after he returned from Paddan Aram, and blessed him. ¹⁰ God said to him, "Your name is Jacob. Your name will no longer be called Jacob, but your name will be Israel." So he called his name Israel. ¹¹ And God said to him, "I am El Shaddai. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations will come from you, and kings will come from your body. ¹² The land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give to you, and I will give the land to your descendants after you." ¹³ Then God went up from him in the place where he spoke with him. ¹⁴ And Jacob set up a standing-stone in the place where he spoke with him, a pillar of stone. And he poured out a drink offering on it, and poured oil on it. ¹⁵ Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him Bethel.

²² The LORD said to Moses, "This is what you shall tell the children of Israel: 'You yourselves have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.

⁶ He said, "Hear now my words. If there is a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known to him in a vision. I will speak with him in a dream. ⁷ My servant Moses is not so. He is faithful in all my house. ⁸ With him I will speak mouth to mouth, even openly, and not in riddles; and he shall see the LORD's form. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant, against Moses?"

⁴ The LORD spoke with you face to face on the mountain out of the midst of the fire,

²¹ Then the angel of the LORD put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there went up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and the angel of the LORD departed out of his sight.

¹⁸ No one has seen God at any time. The only Son, who is at the Father's side, has made him known.

³⁰ I and the Father are one."

¹⁰ This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your descendants after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. ¹¹ You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin. It will be a sign of the covenant between me and you. ¹² He who is eight days old will be circumcised among you, every male throughout your generations, he who is born in the house, or bought with money from any foreigner who is not of your descendants. ¹³ He who is born in your house, and he who is bought with your money, must be circumcised. My covenant will be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. ¹⁴ And the uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin on the eighth day, that person shall be cut off from his people. He has broken my covenant."

²⁶ In the same day both Abraham and Ishmael, his son, were circumcised. ²⁷ All the men of his house, those born in the house, and those bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.

¹⁹ For I have made myself known to him, so that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice, so that God may bring to Abraham that which he has spoken to him."

²⁴ All who went out of the gate of his city agreed with Hamor and his son Shechem; and every male was circumcised, all who went out of the gate of his city.

⁶⁰ I will hurry, and not delay, to obey your commandments.

¹ Do not boast about tomorrow; for you do not know what a day may bring forth.

¹⁰ Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in Sheol, where you are going.

³ Paul wanted to have him go out with him, and he took and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those parts; for they all knew that his father was a Greek.

²⁵ For circumcision indeed profits, if you are a doer of the law, but if you are a transgressor of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. ²⁶ If therefore the uncircumcised keep the requirements of the law, won't his uncircumcision be counted as circumcision? ²⁷ Won't the uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfills the law, judge you, who with the letter and circumcision are a transgressor of the law? ²⁸ For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, neither is that circumcision which is outward in the flesh; ²⁹ but he is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is that of the heart, by the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from people, but from God.

⁹ Is this blessing then pronounced on the circumcised, or on the uncircumcised also? For we say that faith was credited to Abraham as righteousness. ¹⁰ How then was it credited? When he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision. ¹¹ He received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while he was in uncircumcision, so that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they be in uncircumcision, that righteousness might also be credited to them. ¹² The father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had in uncircumcision.

⁶ For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision amounts to anything, nor uncircumcision, but faith working through love.

¹⁵ For neither is circumcision anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation.

⁴ So Abram left, as God had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.

¹ When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said to him, "I am El Shaddai. Walk before me, and be blameless.

³ Abraham rose early in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son. He split the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went to the place of which God had told him. ⁴ On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place far off.
