² He lifted up his eyes and looked, and saw that three men stood opposite him. When he saw them, he ran to meet them from the entrance of the tent, and bowed himself to the earth,

¹⁶ The men rose up from there, and looked toward Sodom. Abraham went with them to see them on their way.

²² The men turned from there, and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the LORD.

¹ The two angels came to Sodom at evening. Lot sat in the gate of Sodom. Lot saw them, and rose up to meet them. He bowed himself with his face to the earth,

⁷ Abraham rose up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, to the sons of Heth.

²⁴ Then Jacob was left alone. And a man wrestled with him until the rising of the dawn.

³ He himself went on ahead of them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he approached his brother. ⁴ Esau ran to meet him, embraced him, hugged his neck, and kissed him. And they wept. ⁵ And he looked up and saw the women and the children, and said, "Who are these with you?" He said, "The children whom God has graciously given your servant." ⁶ Then the female servants came forward with their children, and they bowed themselves. ⁷ Leah also and her children came forward, and bowed themselves. After them, Joseph came forward with Rachel, and they bowed themselves.

²⁶ When Joseph came home, they prepared the gift they had brought with them into the house, and bowed themselves down to him with their face to the ground.

²⁸ And they answered, "Your servant, our father, is well. He is still alive." Then he said, "Blessed be that man by God." And they bowed and prostrated themselves.

¹⁴ So Judah and his brothers came to Josephʼs house, and he was still there, and they fell to the ground before him.

¹³ It happened, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and look, a man stood in front of him with his sword drawn in his hand. Joshua went to him, and said to him, "Are you for us, or for our adversaries?"

³ The angel of the LORD appeared to the woman, and said to her, "See now, you are barren, and do not bear; but you shall conceive, and bear a son.

⁶ Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, "A man of God came to me, and his face was like the face of the angel of God, very awesome; and I didn't ask him where he was from, neither did he tell me his name, ⁷ but he said to me, 'Look, you shall conceive, and bear a son. And now drink no wine nor strong drink, and do not eat any unclean thing; for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb until the day of his death.'" ⁸ Then Manoah pleaded with the LORD, and said, "Oh, Lord, please let the man of God whom you did send come again to us, and teach us what we shall do to the child who shall be born." ⁹ God listened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again to the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah, her husband, wasn't with her. ¹⁰ The woman ran quickly, and told her husband, and said to him, "Look, the man who came to me the other day has appeared to me." ¹¹ Manoah arose, and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said to him, "Are you the man who spoke to the woman?" He said, "I am."

¹⁰ Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said to him, "Why have I found favor in your sight, that you should take knowledge of me, since I am a foreigner?"

¹⁵ When the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho over against him saw him, they said, "The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha." They came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

² Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for in doing so, some have entertained angels without knowing it.
