¹ Now Abraham was old, and well advanced in years. The LORD had blessed Abraham in all things. ² Abraham said to his servant, the elder of his house, who ruled over all that he had, "Please put your hand under my thigh. ³ I will make you swear by the God of heaven and earth, that you shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I live. ⁴ But you shall go to my country, and to my relatives, and take a wife for my son Isaac." ⁵ The servant said to him, "What if the woman isn't willing to follow me to this land? Must I then bring your son back to the land from which you came?" ⁶ Abraham said to him, "Be careful that you do not take my son back there. ⁷ Now the God of heaven, who took me from my father's house, and from the land of my birth, who spoke to me, and who swore to me, saying, 'I will give this land to your offspring' -- he will send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there. ⁸ If the woman isn't willing to follow you, then you shall be free from this oath to me. Only you shall not bring my son there again." ⁹ The servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and swore to him concerning this matter. ¹⁰ The servant took ten camels, of his master's camels, and departed, having a variety of good things of his master's with him. He arose, and went to Aram Naharaim, to the city of Nahor. ¹¹ He made the camels kneel down outside the city by the well of water at the time of evening, the time that women go out to draw water. ¹² He said, "God of my master Abraham, please give me success this day, and show kindness to my master Abraham. ¹³ Look, I am standing by the spring of water. The daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water. ¹⁴ Let it happen, that the young woman to whom I will say, 'Please let down your pitcher, that I may drink,' and she will say, 'Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink,'—let her be the one you have appointed for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master." ¹⁵ It happened, before he had finished speaking, that look, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel the son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, with her pitcher on her shoulder. ¹⁶ The young woman was very beautiful to look at, a virgin; no man had ever slept with her. She went down to the spring, filled her pitcher, and came up. ¹⁷ The servant ran to meet her, and said, "Please give me a drink, a little water from your pitcher." ¹⁸ She said, "Drink, my lord." She hurried, and let down her pitcher to her hands, and gave him a drink. ¹⁹ When she had finished giving him drink, she said, "I will also draw for your camels, until they have finished drinking." ²⁰ She hurried, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again to the well to draw, and drew for all his camels. ²¹ The man looked steadfastly at her, remaining silent, to know whether the LORD had made his journey prosperous or not. ²² It happened, as the camels had finished drinking, that the man took a gold ring weighing a beka, which he put on her nose, and two bracelets for her hands weighing ten [shekels] of gold, ²³ and said, "Whose daughter are you? Please tell me. Is there room in your father's house for us to lodge in?" ²⁴ She said to him, "I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, whom she bore to Nahor." ²⁵ She said moreover to him, "We have plenty of straw and feed, and room to lodge in." ²⁶ The man bowed his head, and worshiped God. ²⁷ He said, "Blessed be the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his loving kindness and his truth toward my master. As for me, he has led me on the journey to the house of my masterʼs relatives." ²⁸ The young woman ran, and told her mother's house about these words. ²⁹ Rebekah had a brother, and his name was Laban. Laban ran out to the man, to the spring. ³⁰ It happened, when he saw the nose ring, and the bracelets on his sister's hands, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, "This is what the man said to me," that he came to the man. Look, he was standing by the camels at the spring. ³¹ He said, "Come in, you blessed of God. Why do you stand outside? For I have prepared the house, and room for the camels." ³² The man came into the house, and he unloaded the camels. He gave straw and feed for the camels, and water to wash his feet and the feet of the men who were with him. ³³ Food was set before him to eat, but he said, "I will not eat until I have told my message." He said, "Speak on." ³⁴ He said, "I am Abraham's servant. ³⁵ The LORD has blessed my master greatly. He has become great. He has given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, male servants and female servants, and camels and donkeys. ³⁶ Sarah, my master's wife, bore a son to my master when she was old. He has given all that he has to him. ³⁷ My master made me swear, saying, 'You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live, ³⁸ but you shall go to my father's house, and to my relatives, and take a wife for my son.' ³⁹ I said to my master, 'What if the woman will not follow me?' ⁴⁰ He said to me, 'God, before whom I walk, will send his angel with you, and prosper your journey. You shall take a wife for my son of my relatives, and of my father's house. ⁴¹ Then will you be free from my oath, when you come to my relatives. If they do not give her to you, you shall be free from my oath.' ⁴² I came this day to the spring, and said, 'God of my master Abraham, if now you will prosper my journey in which I go— ⁴³ look, I am standing by this spring of water. Let it happen, that the virgin who comes out to draw, to whom I will say, "Please give me a little water from your pitcher to drink," ⁴⁴ and she will tell me, "Drink, and I will also draw for your camels,"—let her be the woman who has been appointed for my master's son.' ⁴⁵ Before I had done speaking in my heart, look, Rebekah came out with her pitcher on her shoulder. She went down to the spring, and drew. I said to her, 'Please give me a drink.' ⁴⁶ She hurried and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, 'Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink.' So I drank, and she made the camels drink also. ⁴⁷ I asked her, and said, 'Whose daughter are you?' She said, 'The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor's son, whom Milcah bore to him.' I put the ring on her nose, and the bracelets on her hands. ⁴⁸ I bowed my head, and worshiped the LORD, and blessed the God of my master Abraham, who had led me in the right way to take my master's brother's daughter for his son. ⁴⁹ Now if you will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me. If not, tell me, that I may turn to the right hand, or to the left." ⁵⁰ Then Laban and Bethuel answered, "The thing proceeds from the LORD. We can't speak to you bad or good. ⁵¹ Look, Rebekah is before you. Take, and go, and let her be your master's son's wife, as the LORD has spoken." ⁵² It happened that when Abraham's servant heard their words, he bowed himself down to the ground. ⁵³ The servant brought out articles of silver and articles of gold, and clothing, and gave them to Rebekah. He also gave valuable gifts to her brother and her mother. ⁵⁴ They ate and drank, he and the men who were with him, and stayed all night. They rose up in the morning, and he said, "Send me away to my master." ⁵⁵ Her brother and her mother said, "Let the young woman stay with us a few days, at least ten. After that she will go." ⁵⁶ He said to them, "Do not hinder me, seeing that he has prospered my journey. Send me away that I may go to my master." ⁵⁷ They said, "We will call the young woman, and ask her." ⁵⁸ They called Rebekah, and said to her, "Will you go with this man?" She said, "I will go." ⁵⁹ They sent away Rebekah, their sister, with her nurse, Abraham's servant, and his men. ⁶⁰ They blessed Rebekah, and said to her, "Our sister, may you be the mother of thousands of ten thousands, and let your descendants possess the gate of those who hate them." ⁶¹ Rebekah arose with her female servants. They rode on the camels, and followed the man. The servant took Rebekah, and went his way. ⁶² Isaac came from the way of Beer Lahai Roi, for he lived in the land of the Negev. ⁶³ Isaac went out to walk in the field at the evening. He lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, look, there were camels coming. ⁶⁴ Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she dismounted from the camel. ⁶⁵ She said to the servant, "Who is the man who is walking in the field to meet us?" The servant said, "It is my master." She took her veil, and covered herself. ⁶⁶ The servant told Isaac all the things that he had done. ⁶⁷ Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife. He loved her. Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.

² And I will make of you a great nation. And I will bless you and make your name great. And you will be a blessing.

² Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.

¹¹ Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age. Sarah was past the age of childbearing.

⁵ Abraham was one hundred years old when his son, Isaac, was born to him.

³⁵ The LORD has blessed my master greatly. He has become great. He has given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, male servants and female servants, and camels and donkeys.

²⁰ Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean of Paddan Aram, the sister of Laban the Aramean, to be his wife.

²⁵ by the God of your father, who will help you, and El Shaddai, who will bless you with blessings of the sky above, blessings of the deep that lies below, and blessings of the breasts and of the womb.

¹ Now king David was old and advanced in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he couldn't keep warm.

¹ Praise the LORD. Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who delights greatly in his commandments. ² His descendants will be mighty in the land. The generation of the upright will be blessed. ³ Wealth and riches are in his house. His righteousness endures forever.

²² The LORD's blessing brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it.

² Look to Abraham your father, and to Sarah who bore you; for when he was but one I called him, and I blessed him, and made him many.

³³ But seek first the Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

⁷ But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they both were well advanced in years.

⁹ So then, those who are of faith are blessed with the faithful Abraham.

³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ;

⁸ For bodily exercise has some value, but godliness has value in all things, having the promise of the life which is now, and of that which is to come.

² Abram said, "Lord, what will you give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?"

⁹ The servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and swore to him concerning this matter. ¹⁰ The servant took ten camels, of his master's camels, and departed, having a variety of good things of his master's with him. He arose, and went to Aram Naharaim, to the city of Nahor.

⁴ So Joseph found favor in the sight of his master, and attended him, and he made him overseer of his house, and all that he had he put under his authority. ⁵ And it came about that from the time that he made him overseer of his household and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptianʼs house because of Joseph; and the blessing of the LORD was on all that he had, in the house and in the field. ⁶ So he left everything that he had in Josephʼs care. He did not concern himself with anything, except for the food which he ate. Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance.

⁸ But he refused, and said to his masterʼs wife, "Look, my master does not concern himself with anything in his house, and he has put all that he has into my care. ⁹ There is no one greater in this household than I am, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, since you are his wife. How then can I do such a great evil, and sin against God?"

¹ Then he instructed the manager of his house, saying, "Fill the menʼs sacks with as much food as they can carry, and put each manʼs silver in the mouth of his sack.

²⁹ And the time approached for Israel to die, so he summoned his son Joseph and said to him, "If now I have found favor in your sight, please put your hand under my thigh and deal kindly and truly with me. Please do not bury me in Egypt,

²⁴ And all the leaders, the mighty men, and also all of the sons of king David submitted themselves to Solomon the king.

¹⁷ Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and in teaching.

² that God's sons saw that the daughters of humankind were beautiful, and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose.

⁴ The Nephilim were on the earth in those days (and also after that), when the sons of God had sexual relations with the daughters of humankind and had children by them. They were the mighty men who were from ancient times, famous men.

¹⁵ And Canaan became the father of Sidon, his firstborn, and Heth, ¹⁶ and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, and the Girgashites, ¹⁷ and the Hivites, and the Arkites, and the Sinites, ¹⁸ and the Arvadites, and the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Afterward the families of the Canaanites were spread abroad. ¹⁹ And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as you go toward Gerar, to Gaza; as you go toward Sodom, and Gomorrah, and Admah, and Zeboiim, to Lasha.

¹⁹ He blessed him, and said, "Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Maker of heaven and earth:

²² Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have lifted up my hand to God Most High, Maker of heaven and earth,

²³ Now, therefore, swear to me here by God that you will not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son's son. But according to the kindness that I have done to you, you shall do to me, and to the land in which you have lived as a foreigner."

²⁸ They said, "We saw plainly that God was with you. We said, 'Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and you, and let us make a covenant with you, ²⁹ that you will do us no harm, as we have not touched you, and as we have done to you nothing but good, and have sent you away in peace.' You are now the blessed of God." ³⁰ He made them a feast, and they ate and drank. ³¹ They rose up some time in the morning, and swore an oath to each other. Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.

³⁴ When Esau was forty years old, he married Judith, the daughter of Beeri the Hethite, and Basemath, the daughter of Elon the Hethite. ³⁵ They brought grief to Isaac and Rebekah.

⁴⁶ Rebekah said to Isaac, "I loathe my life because of the daughters of Heth. If Jacob takes a wife from the daughters of Heth, like these, from the daughters of the land, what good is my life?"

⁸ Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan did not please Isaac, his father.

⁴⁴ So now, come, let us make a covenant, you and I, and let it be a witness between the two of us." And he said to him, "Look, there is no one with us; see, God is witness between me and you." ⁴⁵ Jacob took a stone and set it up as a standing-stone. ⁴⁶ Jacob said to his relatives, "Gather stones." So they took stones and made a mound. They ate there by the mound. ⁴⁷ Laban called it Jegar Sahadutha, but Jacob called it Galeed. ⁴⁸ Laban said, "This mound is a witness between me and you today." Therefore it was named Galeed ⁴⁹ and Mizpah, for he said, "God watch between me and you, when we are absent one from another. ⁵⁰ If you mistreat my daughters, or if you take wives besides my daughters, although no one is with us; see, God is witness between me and you." ⁵¹ Laban said to Jacob, "See this mound, and see the standing-stone, which I have set between me and you. ⁵² May this mound be a witness, and the standing-stone be a witness, that I will not pass over this mound to you, and that you will not pass over this mound and this standing-stone to me, to do harm. ⁵³ The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, judge between us." Then Jacob swore by the fear of his father Isaac.

²⁵ Then Joseph made the sons of Israel take an oath, saying, "God will surely take care of you. Then you must carry up my bones from here."

⁷ "Do not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.

¹¹ the oath of God shall be between them both, whether he hasn't put his hand to his neighbor's goods; and its owner shall accept it, and he shall not make restitution.

¹³ "Be careful to do all things that I have said to you; and do not invoke the name of other gods, neither let them be heard out of your mouth.

¹⁶ and you take of their daughters to your sons, and their daughters play the prostitute after their gods, and make your sons play the prostitute after their gods.

¹² "'You shall not swear by my name falsely, and profane the name of your God. I am the LORD.

²¹ then the priest shall cause the woman to swear with the oath of cursing, and the priest shall tell the woman, 'The LORD make you a curse and an oath among your people, when the LORD allows your thigh to fall away, and your body to swell;

¹³ You shall fear the LORD your God; and you shall serve him only, and you shall cling to him, and take oaths by his name.

³ neither shall you make marriages with them; your daughter you shall not give to his son, nor shall you take his daughter for your son. ⁴ For he will turn away your son from following me, that he may serve other gods; so the anger of the LORD would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly.

²⁰ You shall fear the LORD your God; you shall serve him; and you shall cling to him, and you shall swear by his name.

¹² Now therefore, please swear to me by the LORD, since I have dealt kindly with you, that you also will deal kindly with my father's house, and give me a true token;

¹⁷ And Jonathan swore to David again, because he loved him, for he loved him as he loved his own soul.

¹⁵ Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, "The LORD, the God of Israel, who sit above the cherubim, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.

¹² Hiram continued, "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who has given to David the king a wise son, endowed with discretion and understanding, that should build a house for the LORD, and a house for his kingdom.

⁶ You are the LORD, even you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their army, the earth and all things that are on it, the seas and all that is in them, and you preserve them all. The army of heaven worships you.

²⁵ I contended with them, and cursed them, and struck certain of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, "You shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor take their daughters for your sons, or for yourselves.

¹⁵ Blessed are you by the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

²³ By myself have I sworn, the word is gone forth from my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, that to me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear to God.

¹ "Hear this, house of Jacob, you who are called by the name of Israel, and have come forth out of the waters of Judah; who swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness

¹⁶ so that he who blesses himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he who swears in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hidden from my eyes.

² and you shall swear, 'As the LORD lives,' in truth, in justice, and in righteousness. The nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory."

¹¹ You shall say this to them: 'The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, these shall perish from the earth, and from under the heavens.'

¹⁶ It shall happen, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, "As the LORD lives;" even as they taught my people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built up in the midst of my people.

⁵ those who worship the host of heaven on the housetops, those who worship and swear by the LORD and also swear by Milcom,

³⁹ A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives; but if the husband is dead, she is free to be married to whomever she desires, only in the Lord.

¹⁴ Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? ¹⁵ What agreement has Christ with Belial? Or what portion has a believer with an unbeliever? ¹⁶ What agreement has a temple of God with idols? For we are a temple of the living God. Even as God said, "I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they will be my people." ¹⁷ Therefore, "'Go out from their midst, and be separate,' says the Lord, 'and touch no unclean thing,' and I will receive you.

¹⁶ For people swear oaths by something greater, and in every dispute of theirs the oath is final for confirmation.

²⁵ Nahor lived one hundred and twenty-nine years after he became the father of Terah, and fathered sons and daughters.

⁷ Then God appeared to Abram and said to him, "I will give this land to your offspring." He built an altar there to God, who appeared to him.

²⁰ It happened after these things, that it was told Abraham, saying, "Look, Milcah also has borne children to your brother Nahor: ²¹ Uz his firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel the father of Aram, ²² Kesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel." ²³ Bethuel became the father of Rebekah. These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham's brother.

² Arise, go to Paddan Aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother's father. Take a wife from there from the daughters of Laban, your mother's brother.

⁵⁸ They called Rebekah, and said to her, "Will you go with this man?" She said, "I will go."

² For if you refuse to let them go, and hold them still,

¹⁶ Every prudent man acts from knowledge, but a fool exposes folly.

¹ Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

³⁹ But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the saving of the soul.

⁹ By faith, he sojourned in a land of promise, as a foreigner, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise.

¹³ These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them and embraced them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and temporary residents on the earth. ¹⁴ For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own. ¹⁵ If indeed they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had enough time to return. ¹⁶ Instead, they were longing for a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

²⁰ For if, after they have escaped the defilement of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in it and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. ²¹ For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. ²² It has happened to them according to the true proverb, "The dog turns to his own vomit again," and "the sow that has washed to wallowing in the mire."

¹ Now God had said to Abram, "Go out from your country, and from your relatives, and from your father's house, to the land that I will show you. ² And I will make of you a great nation. And I will bless you and make your name great. And you will be a blessing. ³ And I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse those who treat you with contempt, and through you all the families of the earth will be blessed." ⁴ So Abram left, as God had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. ⁵ Abram took Sarai his wife, Lot his brother's son, and all their possessions that they had accumulated, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they left to go to the land of Canaan. And they came to the land of Canaan, ⁶ and Abram passed through the land to the place of Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. ⁷ Then God appeared to Abram and said to him, "I will give this land to your offspring." He built an altar there to God, who appeared to him.

¹⁵ for all the land which you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever.

¹⁸ On that day God made a covenant with Abram, saying, "To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Perath:

⁸ I will give to you, and to your descendants after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and I will be their God."

¹⁶ and said, "I have sworn by myself," says the LORD, "because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only one, from me, ¹⁷ I will indeed bless you, and I will greatly multiply your offspring like the stars of the sky, and like the sand which is on the seashore; and your offspring will possess the gate of their enemies. ¹⁸ And through your offspring all the nations of the earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice."

³ Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you. For to you, and to your descendants, I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to Abraham your father. ⁴ I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the sky, and will give to your descendants all these lands, and by your descendants will all the nations of the earth be blessed,

²⁴ And God appeared to him the same night, and said, "I am the God of Abraham your father. Do not be afraid, for I am with you, and will bless you, and multiply your descendants for my servant Abraham's sake."

⁵ It shall be, when the LORD your God shall bring you into the land of the Canaanite, and the Hethite, and the Amorite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, which he swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you shall keep this service in this month.

²⁰ "Look, I send an angel before you, to keep you by the way, and to bring you into the place which I have prepared. ²¹ Pay attention to him, and listen to his voice. Do not provoke him, for he will not pardon your disobedience, for my name is in him. ²² But if you indeed listen to his voice, and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and an adversary to your adversaries. ²³ For my angel shall go before you, and bring you in to the Amorite, the Hethite, the Perizzite, the Canaanite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite; and I will cut them off.

¹³ Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by your own self, and said to them, 'I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the sky, and all this land that I have spoken of I will give to your descendants, and they shall inherit it forever.'"

² I will send an angel before you; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hethite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:

¹⁶ 'Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness.'

³⁰ surely you shall not come into the land, concerning which I swore that I would make you dwell in it, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

¹¹ 'Surely none of the men who came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me:

⁸ Look, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which I swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to them and to their descendants after them."

⁴ The LORD said to him, "This is the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, 'I will give it to your descendants.' I have caused you to see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there."

⁶ Be strong and of good courage; for you shall cause this people to inherit the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.

¹ The angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim. He said, "I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you to the land which I swore to your fathers; and I said, 'I will never break my covenant with you:

² "Thus says Koresh king of Persia, 'The LORD, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he has commanded me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah.

⁸ I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you.

⁷ The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.

²⁴ You will guide me with your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

²⁰ Praise the LORD, all you angels of his, who are mighty in strength, who fulfill his word, obeying the voice of his word.

⁵ Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. ⁶ In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

⁹ In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bore them, and carried them all the days of old.

⁴⁴ In the days of those kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed, nor shall its sovereignty be left to another people; but it shall break in pieces and consume all those kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.

⁹ He said to them, "I am a Hebrew, and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, who has made the sea and the dry land."

⁵ He gave him no inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on. He promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his descendants after him, when he still had no child.

¹⁴ Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to do service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?

¹³ In that hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified, and gave glory to the God of heaven.

⁴ But you shall go to my country, and to my relatives, and take a wife for my son Isaac." ⁵ The servant said to him, "What if the woman isn't willing to follow me to this land? Must I then bring your son back to the land from which you came?" ⁶ Abraham said to him, "Be careful that you do not take my son back there.

⁵ But if her father disallow her in the day that he hears, none of her vows, or of her bonds with which she has bound her soul, shall stand: and the LORD will forgive her, because her father disallowed her.

⁸ But if her husband forbids her in the day that he hears it, then he shall make void her vow which is on her, and the rash utterance of her lips, with which she has bound her soul: and the LORD will forgive her.

¹⁷ The men said to her, "We will be guiltless of this your oath which you have made us to swear. ¹⁸ Look, when we come into the land, you shall bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which you did let us down by. You shall gather to yourself into the house your father, your mother, your brothers, and all your father's household. ¹⁹ It shall be that whoever goes out of the doors of your house into the street, his blood will be on his head, and we will be guiltless. Whoever is with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand is on him. ²⁰ But if you talk about this business of ours, then we shall be guiltless of your oath which you have made us to swear."

²⁰ This we will do to them, and let them live; lest wrath be on us, because of the oath which we swore to them."

³² You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."

² He said, "Brothers and fathers, listen. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran,

² Abraham said to his servant, the elder of his house, who ruled over all that he had, "Please put your hand under my thigh.

³¹ And Terah took Abram his son, Lot the son of Haran, his grandson, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abramʼs wife, and with them he set out from Ur Kasdim to go into the land of Canaan. But when they came to Haran, they settled there.

⁴³ Now therefore, my son, obey my voice. Arise, flee to Laban, my brother, in Haran.

¹ Then Jacob went on his journey, and came to the land of the people of the east.

⁴ Jacob said to them, "My brothers, where are you from?" They said, "We are from Haran." ⁵ He said to them, "Do you know Laban, the grandson of Nahor?" They said, "We know him."

²² The keeper of the prison put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners who were in the prison; he was made responsible for everything that was done there. ²³ The keeper of the prison paid no attention to anything that was under his supervision, because God was with him, and made everything he did successful.

⁴ because they did not meet you with bread and with water in the way, when you came forth out of Egypt, and because they hired against you Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of Aram Naharaim, to curse you.

⁸ Therefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Cushan Rishathaim king of Aram Naharaim; and the children of Israel served Cushan Rishathaim eight years. ⁹ When the children of Israel cried to the LORD, the LORD raised up a savior to the children of Israel, who saved them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Calebʼs younger brother; and he obeyed him. ¹⁰ The Spirit of the LORD came on him, and he judged Israel; and he went out to war, and the LORD delivered Cushan Rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand: and his hand prevailed against Cushan Rishathaim.

⁶ When the people of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the people of Ammon sent one thousand talents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, and out of Aram Maacah, and out of Zobah.

⁹ Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and people from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia,

¹³ Look, I am standing by the spring of water. The daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water. ¹⁴ Let it happen, that the young woman to whom I will say, 'Please let down your pitcher, that I may drink,' and she will say, 'Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink,'—let her be the one you have appointed for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master." ¹⁵ It happened, before he had finished speaking, that look, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel the son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, with her pitcher on her shoulder. ¹⁶ The young woman was very beautiful to look at, a virgin; no man had ever slept with her. She went down to the spring, filled her pitcher, and came up. ¹⁷ The servant ran to meet her, and said, "Please give me a drink, a little water from your pitcher." ¹⁸ She said, "Drink, my lord." She hurried, and let down her pitcher to her hands, and gave him a drink. ¹⁹ When she had finished giving him drink, she said, "I will also draw for your camels, until they have finished drinking." ²⁰ She hurried, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again to the well to draw, and drew for all his camels.

¹³ Jacob said to him, "My lord knows that the children are tender, and that the sheep and cattle with me have their young, and if they overdrive them one day, the whole herd will die. ¹⁴ Please let my lord pass on ahead of his servant, and I will move along slowly, at the pace of the herds that are before me and at the pace of the children, until I come to my lord at Seir."

¹⁶ Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters. They came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.

¹¹ As they went up the ascent to the city, they found young maidens going out to draw water, and said to them, "Is the seer here?"

¹⁰ A righteous man regards the life of his animal, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

⁷ A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink."

¹ After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield; your reward will be very great."

⁷ I will establish my covenant between me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you. ⁸ I will give to you, and to your descendants after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and I will be their God."

²⁷ He said, "Blessed be the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his loving kindness and his truth toward my master. As for me, he has led me on the journey to the house of my masterʼs relatives."

⁴² I came this day to the spring, and said, 'God of my master Abraham, if now you will prosper my journey in which I go—

⁴⁸ I bowed my head, and worshiped the LORD, and blessed the God of my master Abraham, who had led me in the right way to take my master's brother's daughter for his son.

¹⁰ You shall bring it to your father, that he may eat, so that he may bless you before his death."

²⁰ Isaac said to his son, "How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son?" He said, "Because your God gave me success."

¹³ And look, the LORD stood above it, and said, "I am the God of Abraham your grandfather, and the God of Isaac. The land on which you are lying I will give to you and to your descendants.

⁴² Unless the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the one whom Isaac fears, had been with me, surely now you would have sent me away empty-handed. God has seen my harsh treatment and my hard work, and rebuked you last night."

⁹ Jacob said, "God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, who said to me, 'Return to your country, and to your relatives, and I will do you good,'

¹⁴ And may El Shaddai grant you mercy before the man, that he may release to you your other brother and Benjamin. If I am deprived of my children, then I am deprived."

⁶ Moreover he said, "I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look at God.

¹⁵ And God said moreover to Moses, "You shall tell the children of Israel this, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.' This is my name forever, and this is how I am to be remembered from generation to generation.

³⁶ It happened at the time of the offering up of the offering, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, "LORD, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that you are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your word.

¹⁴ And he took the cloak of Elijah that fell from him, and struck the water, and it did not divide. And he said, "Where is the LORD, the God of Elijah, even he?" And he struck the water a second time, and they divided to the one side and to the other; and Elisha crossed over.

¹¹ Lord, I beg you, let your ear be attentive now to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants, who delight to fear your name; and please prosper your servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man." Now I was cup bearer to the king.

⁴ Then the king said to me, "For what do you make request?" So I prayed to the God of heaven.

⁵ Commit your way to the LORD. Trust also in him, and he will act.

¹⁶ Let your work appear to your servants; your glory to their children. ¹⁷ Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us; establish the work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands.

²⁵ Save us now, we beg you, LORD. LORD, we beg you, send prosperity now.

⁶ Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Those who love you will prosper.

¹ [A Song of Ascents. By Solomon.] Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain.

⁶ In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

³² 'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?' God is not the God of the dead, but of the living."

⁶ Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

¹⁰ night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face, and may perfect that which is lacking in your faith? ¹¹ Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way to you;

¹¹ He made the camels kneel down outside the city by the well of water at the time of evening, the time that women go out to draw water.

⁴³ look, I am standing by this spring of water. Let it happen, that the virgin who comes out to draw, to whom I will say, "Please give me a little water from your pitcher to drink,"

⁹ While he was yet speaking with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep, for she was tending them. ¹⁰ It happened, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban, his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban, his mother's brother, that Jacob went over and rolled the stone from the well's mouth and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother.

¹¹ Far from the noise of archers, in the places of drawing water, there they will rehearse the righteous acts of the LORD, the righteous acts of his rule in Israel. "Then the people of the LORD went down to the gates.

⁸ But he said, "Lord, how can I know that I will possess it?"

⁴⁴ and she will tell me, "Drink, and I will also draw for your camels,"—let her be the woman who has been appointed for my master's son.'

¹ Moses answered, "But, look, they will not believe me, nor listen to my voice; for they will say, 'God has not appeared to you.'" ² The LORD said to him, "What is that in your hand?" He said, "A rod." ³ He said, "Throw it on the ground." He threw it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses ran away from it. ⁴ The LORD said to Moses, "Put forth your hand, and take it by the tail." He put forth his hand, and laid hold of it, and it became a rod in his hand. ⁵ "That they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you." ⁶ The LORD said furthermore to him, "Now put your hand inside your cloak." He put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out, look, his hand was leprous, as white as snow. ⁷ He said, "Put your hand inside your cloak again." He put his hand inside his cloak again, and when he took it out of his cloak, look, it had turned again as his other flesh. ⁸ "It will happen, if they will neither believe you nor listen to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign. ⁹ It will happen, if they will not believe even these two signs, neither listen to your voice, that you shall take of the water of the river, and pour it on the dry land. The water which you take out of the river will become blood on the dry land."

¹⁷ He said to him, "If now I have found favor in your sight, then show me a sign that it is you who talk with me.

³⁷ look, I will put a fleece of wool on the threshing floor; if there is dew on the fleece only, and it is dry on all the ground, then shall I know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you have spoken."

¹³ When Gideon had come, look, there was a man telling a dream to his friend; and he said, "Look, I had a dream, and look, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the camp of Midian, and came to the tent, and struck it so that it fell, and turned it upside down, so that the tent collapsed." ¹⁴ His friend answered, "This is nothing less than the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel. Into his hand God has delivered Midian, and all the army." ¹⁵ It was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and its interpretation, that he worshiped, and he returned into the camp of Israel, and said, "Get up, for the LORD has delivered into your hand the army of Midian."

⁵ They said to him, "Please ask counsel of God, that we may know whether our way which we go shall be prosperous."

⁷ "Now therefore take and prepare yourselves a new cart, and two milk cows, on which there has come no yoke; and tie the cows to the cart, and bring their calves home from them; ⁸ and take the ark of the LORD, and lay it on the cart; and put the figures of gold, which you return him for a trespass offering, in a box by its side; and send it away, that it may go. ⁹ And watch; if it goes up by the way of its own territory to Beth Shemesh, then he has done us this great evil: but if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that struck us; it was a chance that happened to us."

² When you have departed from me today, then you shall find two men by Rachel's tomb, in the territory of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will tell you, 'The donkeys which you went to seek have been found; and look, your father has stopped caring about the donkeys, and is anxious for you, saying, "What shall I do for my son?"' ³ "Then you shall go on forward from there, and you shall come to the oak of Tabor; and three men shall meet you there going up to God to Bethel, one carrying three young goats, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine: ⁴ and they will greet you and give you two wave offerings of bread, which you shall accept from their hand. ⁵ "After that you shall come to Gibeath Elohim, where the Philistine garrison is. And it shall happen, when you have come there to the city, that you shall meet a band of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a tambourine, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they will be prophesying: ⁶ and the Spirit of the LORD will come mightily on you, and you shall prophesy with them, and shall be turned into another man. ⁷ Let it be, when these signs have come to you, that you do as occasion shall serve you; for God is with you. ⁸ "You shall go down before me to Gilgal; and look, I will come down to you, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: you shall wait seven days, until I come to you, and show you what you shall do." ⁹ It was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs happened that day. ¹⁰ And he went from there to Gibeah, and look, a band of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came mightily on him, and he prophesied among them.

⁸ Then Jonathan said, "Look, we will pass over to the men, and we will reveal ourselves to them. ⁹ If they say thus to us, 'Wait until we come to you.' then we will stand still in our place, and will not go up to them. ¹⁰ But if they say this, 'Come up to us.' then we will go up; for the LORD has delivered them into our hand. This shall be the sign to us."

⁷ If he says, 'It is well;' your servant shall have peace: but if he be angry, then know that evil is determined by him.

²⁴ And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, that then you are to act decisively; for then the LORD has gone out before you to strike the army of the Philistines."

⁹ Joab said to Amasa, "Is it well with you, my brother?" Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him.

⁸ Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "What shall be the sign that the LORD will heal me, and that I shall go up to the house of the LORD the third day?" ⁹ Isaiah said, "This shall be the sign to you from the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that he has spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or go back ten steps?" ¹⁰ Hezekiah answered, "It is a light thing for the shadow to go forward ten steps. Nay, but let the shadow return backward ten steps." ¹¹ Isaiah the prophet cried to the LORD; and he brought the shadow ten steps backward, by which it had gone down on the dial of Ahaz.

¹⁴ House and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the LORD.

¹¹ "Ask a sign of the LORD your God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above."

¹⁰ always in my prayers, requesting, if by any means now at last I may succeed by the will of God to come to you.

²⁷ Now these are the generations of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot.

²⁹ And Abram and Nahor took wives. The name of Abram's wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran who was also the father of Iscah.

¹⁴ Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took food and a skin of water, and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder; and gave her the child, and sent her away. She departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba.

²⁴ She said to him, "I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, whom she bore to Nahor."

⁴⁵ Before I had done speaking in my heart, look, Rebekah came out with her pitcher on her shoulder. She went down to the spring, and drew. I said to her, 'Please give me a drink.'

⁹ While he was yet speaking with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep, for she was tending them.

³⁶ Gideon said to God, "If you will save Israel by my hand, as you have spoken, ³⁷ look, I will put a fleece of wool on the threshing floor; if there is dew on the fleece only, and it is dry on all the ground, then shall I know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you have spoken." ³⁸ It was so; for he rose up early on the next day, and pressed the fleece together, and wrung the dew out of the fleece, a bowl full of water. ³⁹ Gideon said to God, "Do not let your anger be kindled against me, and I will speak but this once. Please let me make one more test with the fleece; let it now be dry only on the fleece, and on all the ground let there be dew." ⁴⁰ God did so that night, for it was dry on the fleece only, and there was dew all over the ground.

² Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, "Let me now go to the field, and glean among the ears of grain after him in whose sight I shall find favor." She said to her, "Go, my daughter."

¹⁷ So she gleaned in the field until evening; and she beat out that which she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley.

¹⁵ The eyes of the LORD are toward the righteous. His ears listen to their cry.

² You who hear prayer, to you all men will come.

¹⁸ The LORD is near to all those who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. ¹⁹ He will fulfill the desire of those who fear him. He also will hear their cry, and will save them.

²⁷ She looks well to the ways of her household, and doesn't eat the bread of idleness.

⁹ Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; you shall cry, and he will say, 'Here I am.' "If you take away from the midst of you the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking wickedly;

²⁴ It shall happen that, before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

²⁰ While I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my petition before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God, ²¹ while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, came to me in my weariness about the time of the evening sacrifice. ²² He instructed me, and talked with me, and said, "Daniel, I have now come forth to give you wisdom and understanding. ²³ At the beginning of your petitions the commandment went forth, and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly loved. Therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision.

¹ Now Adam had marital relations with his wife Eve, and she conceived, and gave birth to Cain, and said, "I have gotten a man from God."

⁷ The men of the place asked him about his wife. He said, "She is my sister," for he was afraid to say, "My wife," lest, he thought, "the men of the place might kill me for Rebekah, because she is beautiful to look at."

⁶ So he left everything that he had in Josephʼs care. He did not concern himself with anything, except for the food which he ate. Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance.

¹⁷ Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him. ¹⁸ But all the girls, who have not known man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.

² I was asleep, but my heart was awake. It is the voice of my beloved who knocks: "Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled; for my head is filled with dew, and my hair with the dampness of the night."

¹ There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, to Gerar. ² And God appeared to him, and said, "Do not go down into Egypt. Live in the land I will tell you about. ³ Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you. For to you, and to your descendants, I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to Abraham your father. ⁴ I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the sky, and will give to your descendants all these lands, and by your descendants will all the nations of the earth be blessed, ⁵ because Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my requirements, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws." ⁶ So Isaac settled in Gerar. ⁷ The men of the place asked him about his wife. He said, "She is my sister," for he was afraid to say, "My wife," lest, he thought, "the men of the place might kill me for Rebekah, because she is beautiful to look at." ⁸ It happened, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and look, Isaac was caressing Rebekah, his wife. ⁹ Abimelech called Isaac, and said, "Look, surely she is your wife. Why did you say, 'She is my sister?'" Isaac said to him, "Because I thought, 'Lest I die because of her.'" ¹⁰ Abimelech said, "What is this you have done to us? One of the people might easily have slept with your wife, and you would have brought guilt on us." ¹¹ Abimelech commanded all the people, saying, "He who touches this man or his wife will surely be put to death." ¹² Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year one hundred times what he planted. The LORD blessed him. ¹³ The man became wealthy, and prospered more and more until he became very wealthy. ¹⁴ He had possessions of flocks, possessions of herds, and a great household. The Philistines envied him. ¹⁵ Now all the wells which his father's servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped, and filled with earth. ¹⁶ Abimelech said to Isaac, "Go from us, for you are much mightier than we." ¹⁷ Isaac departed from there, camped in the valley of Gerar, and lived there. ¹⁸ Isaac dug again the wells which the servants of his father Abraham had dug. For the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham. And he called their names after the names by which his father had called them. ¹⁹ Isaac's servants dug in the valley, and found there a well of flowing water. ²⁰ The herdsmen of Gerar argued with Isaac's herdsmen, saying, "The water is ours." He called the name of the well Esek, because they contended with him. ²¹ They dug another well, and they argued over that, also. He called its name Sitnah. ²² He left that place, and dug another well. They did not argue over that one. He called it Rehoboth. He said, "For now God has made room for us, and we will be fruitful in the land." ²³ He went up from there to Beersheba. ²⁴ And God appeared to him the same night, and said, "I am the God of Abraham your father. Do not be afraid, for I am with you, and will bless you, and multiply your descendants for my servant Abraham's sake." ²⁵ He built an altar there, and called on the name of the LORD, and pitched his tent there. There Isaac's servants dug a well. ²⁶ Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath his friend, and Phicol the commander of his army. ²⁷ Isaac said to them, "Why have you come to me, since you hate me, and have sent me away from you?" ²⁸ They said, "We saw plainly that God was with you. We said, 'Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and you, and let us make a covenant with you, ²⁹ that you will do us no harm, as we have not touched you, and as we have done to you nothing but good, and have sent you away in peace.' You are now the blessed of God." ³⁰ He made them a feast, and they ate and drank. ³¹ They rose up some time in the morning, and swore an oath to each other. Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace. ³² It happened the same day, that Isaac's servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had dug, and said to him, "We have found water." ³³ He called it Shibah. Therefore the name of the city is Beersheba to this day.

¹⁰ So he got up and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, look, a widow was there gathering wood. And he called to her, and said, "Please bring me a little water in a pitcher, that I may drink."

¹⁴ They brought water to him who was thirsty. The inhabitants of the land of Tema met the fugitives with their bread.

²⁵ There shall be brooks and streams of water on every lofty mountain and on every high hill in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall.

⁶ Then the lame man will leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute will sing; for waters will break out in the wilderness, and streams in the desert. ⁷ The burning sand will become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water. Grass with reeds and rushes will be in the habitation of jackals, where they lay.

¹⁷ The poor and needy seek water, and there is none. Their tongue fails for thirst. I, the LORD, will answer them. I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them. ¹⁸ I will open rivers on the bare heights, and springs in the midst of the valleys. I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.

¹⁰ They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun strike them: for he who has mercy on them will lead them, even by springs of water he will guide them.

⁹ The Samaritan woman therefore said to him, "How can you, being a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?" (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)

¹⁴ Let it happen, that the young woman to whom I will say, 'Please let down your pitcher, that I may drink,' and she will say, 'Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink,'—let her be the one you have appointed for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master."

²⁶ She opens her mouth with wisdom. Faithful instruction is on her tongue.

⁸ Finally, be all like-minded, compassionate, loving as brothers, tenderhearted, humble,

⁸ Above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins. ⁹ Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.

⁴⁵ Before I had done speaking in my heart, look, Rebekah came out with her pitcher on her shoulder. She went down to the spring, and drew. I said to her, 'Please give me a drink.' ⁴⁶ She hurried and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, 'Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink.' So I drank, and she made the camels drink also.

⁹ Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.

¹² He said, "God of my master Abraham, please give me success this day, and show kindness to my master Abraham.

⁵⁶ He said to them, "Do not hinder me, seeing that he has prospered my journey. Send me away that I may go to my master."

¹⁸ Then king David went in and sat before the LORD and said, "Who am I, Lord GOD, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far? ¹⁹ This was a small thing in your eyes, Lord GOD, and you have spoken of your servantʼs house for a great while to come, and you have let me look upon the generation of humankind to come, Lord GOD. ²⁰ And what more can David add to you concerning the honor which is done to your servant? For you know your servant, LORD.

¹ [By David; when he pretended to be insane before Abimelech, who drove him away, and he departed.] I will bless the LORD at all times. His praise will always be in my mouth. ² My soul shall boast in the LORD. The humble shall hear of it, and be glad. ³ Oh magnify the LORD with me. Let us exalt his name together. ⁴ I sought the LORD, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears. ⁵ They looked to him and were radiant, and their faces are not ashamed. ⁶ This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

⁴ Now let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree. ⁵ I will get a bit of food so you may refresh yourselves. After that you may go your way, now that you have come to your servant." They said, "Very well, do as you have said." ⁶ Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah, and said, "Quickly, get three measures of fine flour, knead it, and make bread." ⁷ Abraham ran to the herd, and took a tender and good calf, and gave it to the servant, and he hurried to prepare it. ⁸ He took curds, milk, and the calf that he had prepared, and set it before them. He stood by them under the tree, and they ate.

¹⁹ Yet there is both straw and feed for our donkeys, and there is bread and wine also for me, and for your female servant, and for the young man who is with your servants. There is no lack of anything." ²⁰ And the old man said, "Peace be to you. I will take care of all your needs; however, do not spend the night in the square." ²¹ So he brought him into his house, and fed the donkeys. And they washed their feet, and ate and drank.

⁸ But the noble devises noble things; and he will continue in noble things.

⁵ Abraham said to his young men, "Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I will go over there, and we will worship, and come back to you."

⁵² It happened that when Abraham's servant heard their words, he bowed himself down to the ground.

³¹ The people believed, and when they heard that God had visited the children of Israel, and that he had seen their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshiped.

²⁷ that you shall say, 'It is the sacrifice of the LORD's Passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he struck the Egyptians, and spared our houses.'" The people bowed their heads and worshiped.

²⁹ All the prosperous of the earth shall eat and worship. All those who go down to the dust shall bow before him; and my soul shall live for him.

⁹ Those who dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him. His enemies shall lick the dust.

⁶ Oh come, let's worship and bow down. Let's kneel before the LORD, our Maker,

⁶ How shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old?

¹⁰ that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, those on earth, and those under the earth,

²⁶ He said, "Blessed be the God of Shem. Let Canaan be his servant.

¹⁰ I am not worthy of the least of all the loving kindnesses and of all the faithfulness which you have shown to your servant; for with just my staff I passed over this Jordan, and now I have become two camps.

¹¹ It happened in those days, when Moses had grown up, that he went out to his brothers, and looked at their burdens. He saw an Egyptian striking a Hebrew, one of his brothers.

¹³ He went out the second day, and look, two men of the Hebrews were fighting with each other. He said to him who did the wrong, "Why do you strike your fellow?"

¹⁰ Jethro said, "Blessed be the LORD, who has delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh; who has delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.

²⁸ And Ahimaaz came near and said to the king, "All is well." He bowed himself before the king with his face to the earth, and said, "Blessed is the LORD your God, who has delivered up the men who lifted up their hand against my lord the king."

¹⁰ Therefore David blessed the LORD before all the assembly; and David said, "You are blessed, LORD, the God of Israel our father, forever and ever. ¹¹ Yours, LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. For all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, LORD, and you are exalted as head above all. ¹² Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all; and in your hand is power and might; and it is in your hand to make great, and to give strength to all. ¹³ Now therefore, our God, we thank you, and praise your glorious name.

¹⁹ Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burdens, even the God who is our salvation. Selah.

¹⁸ Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds. ¹⁹ Blessed be his glorious name forever. Let the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and amen.

³ He has remembered his loving kindness and his faithfulness toward the house of Israel. Every part of the earth has seen the salvation of our God.

⁵ For the LORD is good. His loving kindness endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

¹¹ I have taught you in the way of wisdom. I have led you in straight paths. ¹² When you go, your steps will not be hampered. When you run, you will not stumble. ¹³ Take firm hold of instruction. Do not let her go. Keep her, for she is your life.

²⁰ I walk in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of justice;

²⁰ You will give truth to Jacob, and mercy to Abraham, as you have sworn to our fathers from the days of old.

⁶⁸ "Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, for he has visited and worked redemption for his people;

¹⁷ For the Law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

⁵⁵ Her brother and her mother said, "Let the young woman stay with us a few days, at least ten. After that she will go."

⁵ He said to them, "Do you know Laban, the grandson of Nahor?" They said, "We know him."

¹³ It happened, when Laban heard the news of Jacob, his sister's son, that he ran to meet Jacob, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. Jacob told Laban all these things.

⁸ A bribe is a precious stone in the eyes of him who gives it; wherever he turns, he prospers.

² and he said, "See now, my lords, please turn aside into your servant's house, and stay all night, and wash your feet, then you may rise up early, and go on your way." They said, "No, but we will stay in the street all night."

²⁴ The man brought the men into Josephʼs house and gave them water, and they washed their feet. Then he gave their donkeys food.

²¹ So he brought him into his house, and fed the donkeys. And they washed their feet, and ate and drank.

⁴¹ She arose, and bowed herself with her face to the earth, and said, "Look, your handmaid is a servant to wash the feet of the servants of my lord."

⁴ arose from the meal, and removed his outer garments. He took a towel, and wrapped a towel around his waist. ⁵ Then he poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him. ⁶ Then he came to Simon Peter. He said to him, "Lord, do you wash my feet?" ⁷ Jesus answered him, "You do not know what I am doing now, but you will understand later." ⁸ Peter said to him, "You will never wash my feet." Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with me." ⁹ Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head." ¹⁰ Jesus said to him, "Someone who has bathed only needs to have his feet washed, but is completely clean. You are clean, but not all of you." ¹¹ For he knew him who would betray him, therefore he said, "You are not all clean." ¹² So when he had washed their feet, put his outer garment back on, and sat down again, he said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you? ¹³ You call me, 'Teacher' and 'Lord.' You say so correctly, for so I am. ¹⁴ If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.

¹⁰ being approved by good works, if she has brought up children, if she has been hospitable to strangers, if she has washed the saints' feet, if she has relieved the afflicted, and if she has diligently followed every good work.

¹² I haven't gone back from the commandment of his lips. I have treasured up the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

³ "Surely I will not come into the structure of my house, nor go up into my bed; ⁴ I will not give sleep to my eyes, or slumber to my eyelids; ⁵ until I find out a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob."

²⁹ Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve kings. He won't serve obscure men.

¹⁰ Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in Sheol, where you are going.

¹⁴ but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never thirst again; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to everlasting life."

³¹ In the meanwhile, the disciples urged him, saying, "Rabbi, eat." ³² But he said to them, "I have food to eat that you do not know about." ³³ The disciples therefore said one to another, "Has anyone brought him something to eat?" ³⁴ Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to accomplish his work.

⁵ Servants, be obedient to those who according to the flesh are your masters, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as to Christ; ⁶ not in the way of service only when eyes are on you, as people-pleasers; but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; ⁷ with good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to people; ⁸ knowing that whatever good thing each one does, he will receive the same again from the Lord, whether he is bound or free.

² Those who have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brothers, but rather let them serve them, because those who partake of the benefit are believing and beloved. Teach and exhort these things.

¹⁶ He dealt well with Abram for her sake, and he aquired sheep, cattle, male donkeys, male servants, female servants, female donkeys, and camels.

¹ Now Abraham was old, and well advanced in years. The LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.

¹¹ It happened after the death of Abraham that God blessed Isaac, his son. Isaac lived by Beer Lahai Roi.

¹² Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year one hundred times what he planted. The LORD blessed him. ¹³ The man became wealthy, and prospered more and more until he became very wealthy. ¹⁴ He had possessions of flocks, possessions of herds, and a great household. The Philistines envied him.

³ His possessions also were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the east.

¹⁰ The LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends. The LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before. ¹¹ Then came there to him all his brothers, and all his sisters, and all those who had been of his acquaintance before, and ate bread with him in his house. They comforted him, and consoled him concerning all the evil that the LORD had permitted on him. And each of them gave him a kesitah and a gold ring. ¹² So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand female donkeys.

³⁵ You have also given me the shield of your salvation, and your right hand holds me up, and your help has made me great.

³⁸ He blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly. He doesn't allow their livestock to decrease.

³ Wealth and riches are in his house. His righteousness endures forever.

⁴ The result of humility and the fear of the LORD is wealth, honor, and life.

²⁹ And Abram and Nahor took wives. The name of Abram's wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran who was also the father of Iscah. ³⁰ And Sarai was barren. She had no child.

¹⁵ God said to Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but her name will be Sarah. ¹⁶ And I will bless her, and moreover I will give you a son by her. And I will bless her, and she will be a mother of nations. Kings of peoples will come from her." ¹⁷ Then Abraham fell on his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, "Will a child be born to him who is one hundred years old? Will Sarah, who is ninety years old, give birth?" ¹⁸ Abraham said to God, "Oh that Ishmael might live before you." ¹⁹ And God said, "Truly, Sarah your wife will bear you a son, and you are to name him Isaac. And I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant and with his descendants after him.

¹⁰ Then he said, "I will certainly return to you at the time of life. Look, Sarah your wife will have a son." Sarah heard from the entrance of the tent, which was behind him. ¹¹ Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age. Sarah was past the age of childbearing. ¹² Sarah laughed within herself, saying, "After I have grown old will I have pleasure, my husband being old also?" ¹³ The LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh, saying, 'Will I really bear a child when I am old?' ¹⁴ Is anything too difficult for God? At the set time I will return to you, at the time of life, and Sarah will have a son."

¹ Now God visited Sarah as he had said, and did to Sarah as he had spoken. ² Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. ³ Abraham called his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac. ⁴ Abraham circumcised his son, Isaac, when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him. ⁵ Abraham was one hundred years old when his son, Isaac, was born to him. ⁶ Sarah said, "God has made me laugh. Everyone who hears will laugh with me." ⁷ She said, "Who would have said to Abraham, that Sarah would nurse children? For I have borne him a son in his old age."

¹⁰ Therefore she said to Abraham, "Cast out this slave woman and her son. For the son of this slave woman will not be heir with my son, Isaac."

⁵ And Abraham gave all that he owned to his son Isaac,

¹⁹ And not being weak in faith, he considered his own body, which was as good as dead (he being about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb.

² Abraham said to his servant, the elder of his house, who ruled over all that he had, "Please put your hand under my thigh. ³ I will make you swear by the God of heaven and earth, that you shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I live. ⁴ But you shall go to my country, and to my relatives, and take a wife for my son Isaac." ⁵ The servant said to him, "What if the woman isn't willing to follow me to this land? Must I then bring your son back to the land from which you came?" ⁶ Abraham said to him, "Be careful that you do not take my son back there. ⁷ Now the God of heaven, who took me from my father's house, and from the land of my birth, who spoke to me, and who swore to me, saying, 'I will give this land to your offspring' -- he will send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there. ⁸ If the woman isn't willing to follow you, then you shall be free from this oath to me. Only you shall not bring my son there again." ⁹ The servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and swore to him concerning this matter.

⁴⁶ Rebekah said to Isaac, "I loathe my life because of the daughters of Heth. If Jacob takes a wife from the daughters of Heth, like these, from the daughters of the land, what good is my life?"

¹ Now when these things were completed, the leaders approached me and said, "The people of Israel, and the priests and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the peoples of the lands, following their abominations, even those of the Canaanites, the Hethites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites. ² For they have taken of their daughters for themselves and for their sons, so that the holy seed have mixed themselves with the peoples of the lands. Indeed, the hand of the officials and leaders has been foremost in this trespass." ³ When I heard this thing, I tore my garment and my robe, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down confounded.

¹ Now God had said to Abram, "Go out from your country, and from your relatives, and from your father's house, to the land that I will show you.

¹⁹ Now Laban had gone to shear his sheep, and Rachel stole the idols that belonged to her father.

⁵ The servant said to him, "What if the woman isn't willing to follow me to this land? Must I then bring your son back to the land from which you came?"

²² Hanoch walked with God after he became the father of Methuselah two hundred years, and fathered sons and daughters.

²⁴ Hanoch walked with God, and then he was not there, for God took him.

⁹ These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time. Noah walked with God.

¹ When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said to him, "I am El Shaddai. Walk before me, and be blameless.

⁷ Now the God of heaven, who took me from my father's house, and from the land of my birth, who spoke to me, and who swore to me, saying, 'I will give this land to your offspring' -- he will send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there.

¹⁵ Then he blessed Joseph, and said, "The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day,

²⁰ "Look, I send an angel before you, to keep you by the way, and to bring you into the place which I have prepared.

³ and keep the instruction of the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, his commandments, his ordinances, and his testimonies, according to that which is written in the law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do, and wherever you turn yourself.

²³ And he said, "LORD, the God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven above, or on earth beneath; keeping covenant and loving kindness with your servants, who walk before you with all their heart;

³ "Remember now, LORD, I beg you, how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in your sight." Hezekiah wept bitterly.

³ He will be like a tree planted by the streams of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also does not wither, and whatever he does shall prosper.

⁸ I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

¹¹ For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways.

²⁸ Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said, "Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel, and delivered his servants who trusted in him, and have changed the king's word, and have yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.

⁸ Now I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. When I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who had shown me these things.

¹⁶ I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify these things to you for the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David; the bright morning star."

⁸ If the woman isn't willing to follow you, then you shall be free from this oath to me. Only you shall not bring my son there again."

¹² that you may enter into the covenant of the LORD your God, and into his oath, which the LORD your God makes with you this day,

¹² He said, "God of my master Abraham, please give me success this day, and show kindness to my master Abraham. ¹³ Look, I am standing by the spring of water. The daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water. ¹⁴ Let it happen, that the young woman to whom I will say, 'Please let down your pitcher, that I may drink,' and she will say, 'Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink,'—let her be the one you have appointed for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master."

³¹ He said, "Come in, you blessed of God. Why do you stand outside? For I have prepared the house, and room for the camels."

³ And his master saw that God was with him, and that God made everything that he did to succeed in his hands.

²¹ Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek of him a straight way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.

¹⁷ Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us; establish the work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands.

⁷ When the angel who spoke to him had departed, he called two of his household servants and a devout soldier of those who waited on him continually. ⁸ Having explained everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.

²² They said, "Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous man and one who fears God, and well spoken of by all the Jewish nation, was directed by a holy angel to invite you to his house, and to listen to what you say."

²² And the rib that God had taken from the man he fashioned into a woman and brought her to the man.

³³ The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the LORD.

²² Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor of the LORD.

¹⁰ but (which becomes women professing godliness) with good works.

² Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for in doing so, some have entertained angels without knowing it.

¹³ And she was speaking in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk. ¹⁴ So Eli said to her, "How long will you make yourself drunk? Put away your wine from you." ¹⁵ And Hannah answered, "No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I poured out my soul before the LORD.

²⁷ For you have revealed to your servant, saying, 'I will build you a house.' Therefore your servant has found in his heart to pray this prayer to you.

¹⁹ Lord, hear. Lord, forgive. Lord, listen and take action. Do not delay, for your own sake, my God, because your city and your people are called by your name."

²³ At the beginning of your petitions the commandment went forth, and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly loved. Therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision.

⁷ "Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you.

²⁴ When they heard it, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, "Lord, you made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all that is in them. ²⁵ You said through the Holy Spirit, through the mouth of our father David your servant: 'Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot in vain? ²⁶ The kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers take council together, against the Lord, and against his Christ.' ²⁷ "For truly, in this city against your holy servant, Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the non-Jews and the people of Israel, were gathered together ²⁸ to do whatever your hand and your council foreordained to happen. ²⁹ Now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness, ³⁰ while you stretch out your hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of your holy Servant Jesus." ³¹ When they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were gathered together. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness. ³² And the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul. Not one of them claimed that anything of the things which he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. ³³ With great power, the apostles gave their testimony of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Great grace was on them all.

³⁰ Cornelius said, "Four days ago until this hour, at three in the afternoon, I was praying in my house, and look, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

¹² Thinking about that, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying. ¹³ And when Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a servant girl named Rhoda came to answer. ¹⁴ When she recognized Peter's voice, she did not open the gate for joy, but ran in, and reported that Peter was standing in front of the gate. ¹⁵ They said to her, "You are crazy." But she insisted that it was so. They said, "It is his angel." ¹⁶ But Peter continued knocking. When they had opened, they saw him, and were amazed. ¹⁷ But he, beckoning to them with his hand to be silent, declared to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. He said, "Tell these things to James, and to the brothers." Then he departed, and went to another place.

²⁶ And in the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we do not know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with inexpressible groanings.

¹⁸ She said, "Drink, my lord." She hurried, and let down her pitcher to her hands, and gave him a drink. ¹⁹ When she had finished giving him drink, she said, "I will also draw for your camels, until they have finished drinking."

²² It happened, as the camels had finished drinking, that the man took a gold ring weighing a beka, which he put on her nose, and two bracelets for her hands weighing ten [shekels] of gold, ²³ and said, "Whose daughter are you? Please tell me. Is there room in your father's house for us to lodge in?" ²⁴ She said to him, "I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, whom she bore to Nahor."

⁵³ The servant brought out articles of silver and articles of gold, and clothing, and gave them to Rebekah. He also gave valuable gifts to her brother and her mother.

⁹ Kings' daughters are among your honorable women. At your right hand the queen stands in gold of Ophir.

¹³ The princess inside is all glorious. Her clothing is interwoven with gold. ¹⁴ She shall be led to the king in embroidered work. The virgins, her companions who follow her, shall be brought to you.

³ You shall also be a crown of beauty in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. ⁴ And you shall no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall your land any more be termed Desolate: but you shall be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; for the LORD delights in you, and your land shall be married. ⁵ For just as a young man marries a virgin, so your sons shall marry you; and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so your God will rejoice over you.

¹⁰ I clothed you also with embroidered work, and shod you with sealskin, and I dressed you about with fine linen, and covered you with silk. ¹¹ I decked you with ornaments, and I put bracelets on your hands, and a chain on your neck. ¹² I put a ring on your nose, and earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head. ¹³ Thus you were decked with gold and silver; and your clothing was of fine linen, and silk, and embroidered work; you ate fine flour, and honey, and oil; and you were exceeding beautiful, and you prospered to royal estate.

²⁶ that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of water with the word, ²⁷ that he might present the church to himself gloriously, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

²⁶ The man bowed his head, and worshiped God. ²⁷ He said, "Blessed be the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his loving kindness and his truth toward my master. As for me, he has led me on the journey to the house of my masterʼs relatives."

²⁰ You shall teach them the statutes and the laws, and shall show them the way in which they must walk, and the work that they must do.

¹⁴ For this God is our God forever and ever. He will guide us forever.

⁷ he led them also by a straight way, that they might go to a city to live in.

¹¹ I have taught you in the way of wisdom. I have led you in straight paths.

¹⁷ Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I am the LORD your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way that you should go.

¹⁷ "Please let us pass through your land: we will not pass through field or through vineyard, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go along the king's highway; we will not turn aside to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed your border."

²⁷ "Let me pass through your land: I will go along by the highway, I will turn neither to the right hand nor to the left.

¹⁴ The men said to her, "Our life for yours, even to death, if you do not talk about this business of ours; and it shall be, when the LORD gives us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with you."

³ Do not let kindness and truth forsake you. Bind them around your neck. Write them on the tablet of your heart.

²⁸ The young woman ran, and told her mother's house about these words.

²⁴ God came to Laban the Aramean in a dream at night, and said to him, "Be careful that you do not speak to Jacob either good or bad."

²⁹ It is in my power to do you harm, but the God of your father spoke to me last night, saying, x91Be careful that you do not speak to Jacob either good or bad.'

²² Absalom spoke to Amnon neither good nor bad; for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had violated his sister Tamar.

²³ This is the LORD's doing. It is marvelous in our eyes.

⁴² Jesus said to them, "Did you never read in the Scriptures, 'The stone which the builders rejected, the same was made the head of the corner. This was from the Lord. It is marvelous in our eyes?'

¹¹ This was from the Lord. It is marvelous in our eyes'?"

¹⁷ If then God gave to them the same gift as us, when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstand God?"

¹⁵ Abimelech said, "Look, my land is before you. Dwell where it pleases you."

¹⁰ The king said, "What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? Because he curses, and because the LORD has said to him, 'Curse David;' who then shall say, 'Why have you done so?'"

²⁶ The man bowed his head, and worshiped God.

¹ [By David; when he pretended to be insane before Abimelech, who drove him away, and he departed.] I will bless the LORD at all times. His praise will always be in my mouth. ² My soul shall boast in the LORD. The humble shall hear of it, and be glad.

²¹ Let them praise the LORD for his loving kindness, for his wonderful works for the descendants of Adam. ²² Let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with singing.

¹ I love the LORD, because he listens to my voice, and my cries for mercy. ² Because he has turned his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.

¹¹ And they came into the house and saw the young child with Mary, his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered to him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

²⁵ When it happened that Peter entered, Cornelius met him, fell down at his feet, and worshiped him. ²⁶ But Peter raised him up, saying, "Stand up. I myself am also a man."

¹⁰ The servant took ten camels, of his master's camels, and departed, having a variety of good things of his master's with him. He arose, and went to Aram Naharaim, to the city of Nahor.

²² It happened, as the camels had finished drinking, that the man took a gold ring weighing a beka, which he put on her nose, and two bracelets for her hands weighing ten [shekels] of gold,

²² But every woman shall ask of her neighbor, and of her who visits her house, articles of silver and articles of gold, and clothing; and you shall put them on your sons, and on your daughters. So you shall plunder the Egyptians.

² Speak now in the hearing of the people, and let them ask every man of his neighbor, and every woman of her neighbor, articles of silver and articles of gold, and clothing."

³⁵ The children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they asked of the Egyptians articles of silver, and articles of gold, and clothing.

¹³ Of Joseph he said, "His land is blessed by the LORD, for the precious things of the heavens, for the dew, for the deep that couches beneath, ¹⁴ with the choices fruits of the sun, and the bounteous yield of the months, ¹⁵ with the finest produce of the ancient mountains, and the abundance of the everlasting hills, ¹⁶ with the choice things of the earth and its fullness, the good will of him who lived in the bush. Let this come on the head of Joseph, on the crown of the head of him who was separate from his brothers.

³ Their father gave them great gifts, of silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with fortified cities in Judah: but the kingdom gave he to Jehoram, because he was the firstborn.

⁶ All those who were around them strengthened their hands with vessels of silver, with gold, with goods, and with animals, and with precious things, besides all that was willingly offered.

¹³ Your shoots are an orchard of pomegranates, with precious fruits: henna with spikenard plants,

² Hezekiah was pleased with them, and showed them the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, the spices, and the precious oil, and all the house of his armor, and all that was found in his treasures. There was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah did not show them.

⁵⁹ They sent away Rebekah, their sister, with her nurse, Abraham's servant, and his men.

⁵ Isaac sent Jacob away. He went to Paddan Aram to Laban, son of Bethuel the Aramean, Rebekah's brother, Jacob's and Esau's mother. ⁶ Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan Aram, to take him a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he gave him a command, saying, "You must not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan,"

²⁴ So he sent his brothers off, and as they departed he said to them, "Do not be fearful on the journey."

¹⁹ Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, "Let me now run, and bear the king news, how that the LORD has avenged him of his enemies."

²⁷ The watchman said, "I think the running of the first one is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok." The king said, "He is a good man, and comes with good news." ²⁸ And Ahimaaz came near and said to the king, "All is well." He bowed himself before the king with his face to the earth, and said, "Blessed is the LORD your God, who has delivered up the men who lifted up their hand against my lord the king."

¹⁰ Do not say, "Why were the former days better than these?" For you do not ask wisely about this.

³⁸ But the man from whom the demons had gone out begged him that he might go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, ³⁹ "Return to your house, and declare what great things God has done for you." He went his way, proclaiming throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him.

³ As time passed, it happened that Cain brought an offering to God from the fruit of the ground.

²⁹ "'If a man sells a dwelling house in a walled city, then he may redeem it within a whole year after it has been sold. For a full year he shall have the right of redemption.

⁸ After a while he returned to take her; and he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion, and look, there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion, and honey.

⁹ Now hurry and go up to my father and tell him, 'This is what your son Joseph says, "God has made me lord of all Egypt. Come down to me. Do not delay. ¹⁰ You shall dwell in the land of Goshen, and you will be near to me, you, your children, and your childrenʼs children, and your flocks, and your herds, and everything that you have. ¹¹ There I will provide for you, for there are still five years of famine to come, otherwise you and your household and all that you have would become destitute. ¹² Look, your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin, that it is my mouth which is speaking to you. ¹³ So you must tell my father about all my glory in Egypt, and of all that you have seen. But you must hurry and bring my father down here."

⁸ This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it: for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.

²⁵ Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

¹⁵ I, even I, have spoken; yes, I have called him; I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous.

¹⁰ Listen, daughter, consider, and turn your ear. Forget your own people, and also your father's house. ¹¹ So the king will desire your beauty, honor him, for he is your lord.

³⁸ And Mary said, "See, the handmaid of the Lord; be it to me according to your word." The angel departed from her.

⁵⁰ Then Laban and Bethuel answered, "The thing proceeds from the LORD. We can't speak to you bad or good.

⁸ Now Deborah, Rebekahʼs nurse, died, and she was buried under an oak outside Bethel. So he called its name Allon Bakuth.

¹² Have I conceived all this people? Have I brought them forth, that you should tell me, 'Carry them in your bosom, as a nurse carries a nursing infant, to the land which you swore to their fathers?'

⁵ For neither were we at any time found using words of flattery, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed (God is witness),

²⁸ And God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the flying creatures of the sky, and over all the tame animals, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over all the creatures that crawl on the earth."

¹ God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them, "Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the earth.

¹⁶ And I will bless her, and moreover I will give you a son by her. And I will bless her, and she will be a mother of nations. Kings of peoples will come from her."

¹⁷ I will indeed bless you, and I will greatly multiply your offspring like the stars of the sky, and like the sand which is on the seashore; and your offspring will possess the gate of their enemies.

³ May El Shaddai bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, that you may be a company of peoples,

¹⁵ Then he blessed Joseph, and said, "The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day, ¹⁶ the Angel who has redeemed me from all evil, bless the boys. And may my name be carried on in them, and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac. And may they grow into a multitude upon the earth."

²⁰ So he blessed them that day, saying, "By you Israel will pronounce blessing, saying, x91God make you as Ephraim and as Manasseh.ʼ" Thus he put Ephraim before Manasseh.

⁴⁶ You may make them an inheritance for your children after you, to hold for a possession; of them may you take your slaves forever: but over your brothers the children of Israel you shall not rule, one over another, with harshness.

¹⁹ then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out to the elders of his city, and to the gate of his place;

¹¹ All the people who were in the gate, and the elders, said, "We are witnesses. May the LORD make the woman who has come into your house like Rachel and like Leah, which two built the house of Israel; and treat you worthily in Ephrathah, and be famous in Bethlehem. ¹² Let your house be like the house of Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah, because of the offspring which the LORD shall give you of this young woman."

¹⁰ A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him. Thousands of thousands ministered to him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. The court sat in judgment, and the books were opened.

²⁴ Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and the two will become one flesh.

³⁴ Now Rachel had taken the idols, put them in the camelʼs saddle, and sat on them. Laban searched the whole tent, but did not find them.

¹⁷ David struck them from the twilight even to the evening of the next day and he put them to death. Not a man of them escaped from there, except four hundred young men, who rode on camels and fled.

¹⁰ He wrote in the name of King Achashyerosh, and sealed it with the king's ring, and sent letters by courier on horseback, riding on royal horses that were bread from swift steeds.

¹⁴ So the couriers who rode on royal horses went out, hastened and pressed on by the king's commandment. The decree was given out in the citadel of Shushan.

¹⁰ Listen, daughter, consider, and turn your ear. Forget your own people, and also your father's house.

⁹ And Abram traveled on, continuing toward the Negev.

¹⁴ Therefore the well was called Beer Lahai Roi. Look, it is between Kadesh and Bered.

¹ Abraham traveled from there toward the land of the Negev, and lived between Kadesh and Shur. He lived as a foreigner in Gerar.

² But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.

¹¹ I will remember the works of the LORD; for I will remember your wonders of old. ¹² I will also meditate on all your work, and consider your doings.

³⁴ Let your meditation be sweet to him. I will rejoice in the LORD.

¹⁵ I will meditate on your precepts, and consider your ways.

²⁷ Let me understand the teaching of your precepts. Then I will meditate on your wondrous works.

⁴⁸ I reach out my hands for your commandments, which I love. I will meditate on your statutes.

¹⁷ How precious to me are your thoughts, God. How vast is the sum of them. ¹⁸ If I would count them, they are more in number than the sand. When I wake up, I am still with you.

⁵ I remember the days of old. I meditate on all your doings. I contemplate the work of your hands. ⁶ I spread forth my hands to you. My soul thirsts for you, like a parched land. Selah.

⁵ Of the glorious splendor of your majesty they will speak, of your wondrous works, I will meditate.

¹⁸ It happened, when she came, that she had him ask her father for a field. She got off of her donkey, and Caleb said, "What do you want?"

¹⁴ It happened, when she came to him, that she got him to ask her father for a field. And she got off from her donkey, and Caleb said to her, "What would you like?"

¹⁶ To Sarah he said, "Look, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver. Look, it is to cover the offense against you before all who are with you. In front of all you are vindicated."

⁵ But every woman praying or prophesying with her head unveiled dishonors her head. For it is one and the same thing as if she were shaved. ⁶ For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered.

¹⁰ For this cause the woman ought to have authority on her head, because of the angels.

⁹ In the same way, that women also adorn themselves in decent clothing, with modesty and propriety; not just with braided hair, gold, pearls, or expensive clothing;

³⁰ Then the apostles gathered themselves together to Jesus, and they told him all things, whatever they had done, and whatever they had taught.

²² And the rib that God had taken from the man he fashioned into a woman and brought her to the man. ²³ And the man said, "This at last is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh. She will be called Woman, because this one was taken out of Man." ²⁴ Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and the two will become one flesh.

⁶ Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah, and said, "Quickly, get three measures of fine flour, knead it, and make bread."

⁹ They said to him, "Where is Sarah, your wife? He said, "See, in the tent." ¹⁰ Then he said, "I will certainly return to you at the time of life. Look, Sarah your wife will have a son." Sarah heard from the entrance of the tent, which was behind him.

¹ Sarah lived one hundred twenty-seven years. This was the length of Sarah's life. ² Sarah died in Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron), in the land of Canaan. Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.

¹⁸ Jacob loved Rachel. He said, "I will serve you seven years for Rachel, your younger daughter."

³⁵ All his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. And he said, "Indeed, I will go down to Sheol to my son mourning." And his father wept for him.

¹² After some time, Judahʼs wife, the daughter of Shua, died. And Judah finished mourning, and went up to his sheepshearers at Timnah, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.

² I would lead you, bringing you into my mother's house, who would instruct me. I would have you drink spiced wine, of the juice of my pomegranate.

¹ "Sing, barren, you who did not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, you who did not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than of her that has a husband," says the LORD. ² "Enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of your habitations; do not spare: lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes. ³ For you shall spread out on the right hand and on the left; and your descendants shall possess the nations, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited. ⁴ "Do not be afraid, for you will not be put to shame, nor will you be humiliated, for you will not be disgraced. For you will forget the shame of your youth, and the disgrace of your widowhood you will remember no more. ⁵ For your husband is your Creator; the LORD of hosts is his name: and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; the God of the whole earth shall he be called.

¹ I wish that you would bear with me in a little foolishness, but indeed you do bear with me. ² For I am jealous over you with a godly jealousy. For I married you to one husband, that I might present you as a pure virgin to Christ.

²² Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. ²³ For the husband is the head of the wife, and Christ also is the head of the church, being himself the savior of the body. ²⁴ But as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives also be to their husbands in everything. ²⁵ Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it; ²⁶ that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of water with the word, ²⁷ that he might present the church to himself gloriously, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. ²⁸ Even so husbands also ought to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself. ²⁹ For no one ever hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it, even as Christ also does the church; ³⁰ because we are members of his body, of his flesh and of his bones. ³¹ "For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." ³² This mystery is great, but I speak concerning Christ and of the church. ³³ Nevertheless each of you must also love his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

¹³ But we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning those who have fallen asleep, so that you do not grieve like the rest, who have no hope.

¹⁵ For this we tell you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left to the coming of the Lord, will in no way precede those who have fallen asleep.
