²⁰ Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter.

¹² They change the night into day, saying 'The light is near' in the presence of darkness.

¹⁵ He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the righteous, both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.

⁷ You who turn justice to wormwood, and cast down righteousness to the earth:

¹⁷ You have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet you say, 'How have we wearied him?' In that you say, 'Everyone who does evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and he delights in them;' or 'Where is the God of justice?'

¹⁵ Now we call the proud blessed; indeed, evildoers prosper. They even tempt God and escape.'

²² "The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light. ²³ But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness.

³ And he answered them, "Why do you also disobey the commandment of God because of your tradition? ⁴ For God said, 'Honor your father and your mother,' and, 'He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.' ⁵ But you say, 'Whoever may tell his father or his mother, "Whatever help you might otherwise have gotten from me is a gift devoted to God," ⁶ he is not to honor his father or his mother.' You have made the word of God void because of your tradition.

¹⁶ "Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, 'Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.' ¹⁷ You blind fools. For which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctified the gold? ¹⁸ 'Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obligated?' ¹⁹ You blind people. For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift? ²⁰ He therefore who swears by the altar, swears by it, and by everything on it. ²¹ He who swears by the temple, swears by it, and by him who dwells in it. ²² He who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God, and by him who sits on it. ²³ "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites. For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the Law: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.

³⁴ The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore when your eye is good, your whole body is also full of light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness. ³⁵ Therefore see whether the light that is in you is not darkness.

¹⁵ He said to them, "You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of people, but God knows your hearts. For that which is exalted among people is an abomination in the sight of God.

¹ But know this, that in the last days, grievous times will come. ² For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, ³ unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, hateful of good, ⁴ traitors, headstrong, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God; ⁵ holding a form of godliness, but having denied the power thereof. Turn away from these, also.

¹ But false prophets also arose among the people, as false teachers will also be among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, denying even the Master who bought them, bringing on themselves swift destruction.

¹⁸ For, uttering great swelling words of emptiness, they entice in the lusts of the flesh, by licentiousness, those who actually escape from those who live in error; ¹⁹ promising them liberty, while they themselves are slaves of corruption; for a person is brought into bondage by whoever overcomes him.
