For Job said, "It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts." Job did so continually. ⁶ Now it happened on the day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, that Satan also came among them. ⁷ The LORD said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, "From going back and forth on the earth, and from walking up and down on it." ⁸ The LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant, Job? For there is none like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil." ⁹ Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, "Does Job fear God for nothing? ¹⁰ Haven't you made a hedge around him, and around his household, and around all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his livestock have increased in the land. ¹¹ But put forth your hand now, and strike all that he has, and he will curse you to your face." ¹² The LORD said to Satan, "Look, all that he has is in your power. Only do not put forth your hand on him." So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD. ¹³ Now the day came when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house, ¹⁴ that there came a messenger to Job, and said, "The oxen were plowing, and the donkeys grazing beside them, ¹⁵ and Sheba attacked, and took them away. Yes, they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you." ¹⁶ While he was still speaking, there also came another, and said, "The fire of God has fallen from the sky, and has burned up the sheep and the young men, and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you." ¹⁷ While he was still speaking, there came also another, and said, "The Kasdim made three bands, and swept down on the camels, and have taken them away, and killed the young men with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you." ¹⁸ While he was still speaking, there came also another, and said, "Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house, ¹⁹ and look, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young men, and they are dead. I alone have escaped to tell you." ²⁰ Then Job arose, and tore his robe, and shaved his head, and fell down with his face to the ground. ²¹ He said, "Naked I came out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD." ²² In all this, Job did not sin, nor charge God with wrongdoing.

⁹ These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time. Noah walked with God.

²³ The sons of Aram: Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.

¹ When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said to him, "I am El Shaddai. Walk before me, and be blameless.

¹² He said, "Do not lay your hand on the boy, neither do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only one, from me."

⁸ The LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant, Job? For there is none like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil."

³ The LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? For there is none like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil. And he still holds firmly to his integrity, although you incited me against him, to ruin him without cause."

¹¹ My foot has held fast to his steps. I have kept his way, and not turned aside. ¹² I haven't gone back from the commandment of his lips. I have treasured up the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

²⁸ To man he said, 'Look, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom. To depart from evil is understanding.'"

¹ "I made a covenant with my eyes, how then should I look lustfully at a young woman? ² For what is the portion from God above, and the heritage from Shaddai on high? ³ Is it not calamity for the unrighteous, and disaster for evildoers? ⁴ Doesn't he see my ways, and number all my steps? ⁵ "If I have walked with falsehood, and my foot has hurried to deceit ⁶ (let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know my integrity); ⁷ if my step has turned out of the way, if my heart walked after my eyes, if any defilement has stuck to my hands, ⁸ then let me sow, and let another eat. Yes, let the produce of my field be rooted out. ⁹ "If my heart has been enticed to a woman, and I have lain in wait at my neighbor's door, ¹⁰ then let my wife grind for another, and let others sleep with her. ¹¹ For that would be a heinous crime. Yes, it would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges: ¹² For it is a fire that consumes to destruction, and would root out all my increase. ¹³ "If I have despised the cause of my male servant or of my female servant, when they contended with me; ¹⁴ What then shall I do when God rises up? When he visits, what shall I answer him? ¹⁵ Did not he who made me in the womb make him? Did not the same one fashion us in the womb? ¹⁶ "If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail, ¹⁷ or have eaten my morsel alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it ¹⁸ (no, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, her have I guided from my mother's womb); ¹⁹ if I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or that the needy had no covering; ²⁰ if his heart hasn't blessed me, if he hasn't been warmed with my sheep's fleece; ²¹ if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, because I saw my help in the gate, ²² then let my shoulder fall from the shoulder blade, and my arm be broken from the bone. ²³ For calamity from God is a terror to me. Because his majesty, I can do nothing. ²⁴ "If I have made gold my hope, and have said to the fine gold, 'You are my confidence;' ²⁵ If I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much; ²⁶ if I have seen the sun when it shined, or the moon moving in splendor, ²⁷ and my heart has been secretly enticed, and my hand threw a kiss from my mouth, ²⁸ this also would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges; for I should have denied the God who is above. ²⁹ "If I have rejoiced at the destruction of him who hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him; ³⁰ (yes, I have not allowed my mouth to sin by asking his life with a curse); ³¹ if the men of my tent have not said, 'Who can find one who has not been filled with his meat?' ³² (the foreigner has not lodged in the street, but I have opened my doors to the traveler); ³³ if like Adam I have covered my transgressions, by hiding my iniquity in my heart, ³⁴ because I feared the great multitude, and the contempt of families terrified me, so that I kept silence, and did not go out of the door— ³⁵ oh that I had one to hear me. (look, here is my signature, let Shaddai answer me); let the accuser write my indictment. ³⁶ Surely I would carry it on my shoulder; and I would bind it to me as a crown. ³⁷ I would declare to him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near to him. ³⁸ If my land cries out against me, and its furrows weep together; ³⁹ if I have eaten its fruits without money, or have caused its owners to lose their life, ⁴⁰ let briars grow instead of wheat, and stinkweed instead of barley." The words of Job are ended.

¹³ The fear of the LORD is to hate evil. I hate pride, arrogance, the evil way, and the perverse mouth.

⁶ By mercy and truth iniquity is atoned for. By the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

²⁰ and all the mixed people, and all the kings of the land of the Uz, and all the kings of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Gaza, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod;

²¹ Rejoice and be glad, daughter of Edom, that dwell in the land of Uz. The cup shall pass through to you also; you will get drunk, and shall make yourself naked.

¹⁴ though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, says the Lord GOD."

²⁰ though Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, as I live, says the Lord GOD, they could not save either son nor daughter; they would save only their own souls by their righteousness.

⁶ They were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord.

¹¹ Look, we call them blessed who endured. You have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the Lord in the outcome, and how the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

¹¹ Let him turn away from evil, and do good. Let him seek peace, and pursue it.

¹¹ Haman recounted to them the glory of his riches, the multitude of his children, all the things in which the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the officials and servants of the king.

¹³ "Be silent, leave me alone, that I may speak. Let come on me what will.

¹³ He had also seven sons and three daughters.

³⁸ He blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly. He doesn't allow their livestock to decrease.

³ Look, children are a heritage of the LORD. The fruit of the womb is a reward. ⁴ As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, so are the children of youth. ⁵ Blessed is the man who has his quiver full of them. They won't be disappointed when they speak with their enemies in the gate.

¹⁰ He built towers in the wilderness, and dug out many cisterns, for he had many cattle; in the Shephelah and in the plain he had farmers, and vinedressers in the hills and in the fertile fields, for he loved the land.

²⁹ Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance; for God had given him very much substance.

⁹ The princes refrained from talking, and laid their hand on their mouth. ¹⁰ The voice of the nobles was hushed, and their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth.

²⁵ I chose out their way, and sat as chief. I lived as a king in the army, as one who comforts the mourners.

¹² So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand female donkeys.

²² The LORD's blessing brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it.

⁵ And God saw that the wickedness of humankind was great on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

²⁰ Noah built an altar to God, and took of every clean animal, and of every clean flying creature, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

³ Abraham rose early in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son. He split the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went to the place of which God had told him.

¹² Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God. Aaron came with all of the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses' father-in-law before God.

¹⁰ The LORD said to Moses, "Go to the people, and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments,

⁵ He sent young men of the children of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of cattle to God.

³ "'If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he shall offer a male without blemish. He shall offer it at the door of the Tent of Meeting, that he may be accepted before the LORD. ⁴ He shall lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him. ⁵ And he shall kill the bull before the LORD. Aaron's sons, the priests, shall present the blood and sprinkle the blood around on the altar that is at the door of the Tent of Meeting. ⁶ And he shall skin the burnt offering, and cut it into pieces.

¹⁰ The son of an Israelite woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel; and the son of the Israelite woman and a man of Israel strove together in the camp. ¹¹ The son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the Name, and cursed; and they brought him to Moses. ⁸ Now therefore, take to yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you, for I will accept him, that I not deal with you according to your folly. For you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has."

³ LORD, in the morning you shall hear my voice. In the morning I will lay my requests before you, and watch.

¹⁰ Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in Sheol, where you are going.

¹⁴ Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long shall your evil thoughts lodge within you?

⁹ The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt: who can know it? ¹⁰ I, the LORD, search the mind, I try the heart, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.

²¹ For from within, out of a person's heart, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, sexual sins, murders, thefts, ²² covetings, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, and foolishness. ²³ All these evil things come from within, and defile the man."

⁷⁵ In holiness and righteousness before him all our days.

⁷ Won't God avenge his chosen ones, who are crying out to him day and night, and yet he exercises patience with them?

⁵⁵ Now the Jewish Passover was near, and many went up from the country to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves.

²² Repent therefore of this, your wickedness, and ask the Lord if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.

²⁶ Then Paul took the men, and the next day, purified himself and went with them into the temple, declaring the fulfillment of the days of purification, until the offering was offered for every one of them.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one will get his praise from God.

⁷ The strong went out, and sought to go that they might walk back and forth through the earth: and he said, "Go around and through the earth." So they walked back and forth through the earth.

⁴³ But the unclean spirit, when he is gone out of the person, passes through waterless places, seeking rest, and does not find it.

⁸ Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

⁹ The great serpent was thrown down, the ancient serpent, he who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world. He was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

¹² Therefore rejoice, heavens, and you who dwell in them. Woe to the land and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he has but a short time." ¹³ When the serpent saw that he was thrown down to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male child. ¹⁴ Two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, so that she might be nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. ¹⁵ The serpent spewed water out of his mouth after the woman like a river, that he might cause her to be carried away by the stream. ¹⁶ The earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the river which the serpent spewed out of his mouth. ¹⁷ The serpent grew angry with the woman, and went away to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep God's commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus.

⁸ and he will come out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to the war; the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

³ Now the man Moses was very humble, above all the men who were on the surface of the earth.

⁷ My servant Moses is not so. He is faithful in all my house. ⁸ With him I will speak mouth to mouth, even openly, and not in riddles; and he shall see the LORD's form. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant, against Moses?"

⁷ Only be strong and very courageous, to observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.

³⁰ Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the people of the east, and all the wisdom of Egypt. ³¹ For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Calcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all the nations all around.

²⁵ Like him was there no king before him, who turned to the LORD with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him.

¹⁵ But the former governors who were before me were supported by the people, and took bread and wine from them, besides forty shekels of silver; yes, even their servants ruled over the people: but I did not do so, because of the fear of God.

¹ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job, and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God, and turning away from evil.

²⁰ "Look, God will not cast away a blameless man, neither will he uphold the evildoers.

²² "It is all the same. Therefore I say he destroys the blameless and the wicked. ²³ If the scourge kills suddenly, he will mock at the trial of the innocent.

⁴ I am like one who is a joke to his neighbor, I, who called on God, and he answered. The just, the blameless man is a joke.

⁸ Upright men shall be astonished at this. The innocent shall stir up himself against the godless. ⁹ Yet shall the righteous hold on his way. He who has clean hands shall grow stronger and stronger.

¹⁴ If he set his heart on himself, If he gathered to himself his spirit and his breath,

⁷ It was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, "My wrath is kindled against you, and against your two friends; for you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has. ⁸ Now therefore, take to yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you, for I will accept him, that I not deal with you according to your folly. For you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has."

²³ I was also blameless with him. I kept myself from my iniquity.

²⁷ Turn away from evil, and do good. Live securely forever.

¹¹ For the LORD God is a sun and a shield. The LORD will give grace and glory. He withholds no good thing from those who walk blamelessly.

²⁰ I have found David, my servant. I have anointed him with my holy oil,

¹⁶ Wash yourselves, make yourself clean. Put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes. Cease to do evil.

¹ "Look, my servant I have chosen, my beloved in whom my soul delights. I have put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations.

⁴ The man said to me, "Son of man, see with your eyes, and hear with your ears, and set your heart on all that I shall show you; for, to the intent that I may show them to you, you are brought here: declare all that you see to the house of Israel."

³⁹ One of the criminals who hung there insulted him, saying, "Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us." ⁴⁰ But the other answered, and rebuking him said, "Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?

⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said about him, "Look, a true Israelite in whom there is no deceit."

²¹ He said, "Naked I came out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD."

¹⁰ But he said to her, "You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. Shall we indeed accept good at the hand of God, and shall we not accept adversity?" In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

¹⁴ They tell God, 'Depart from us, for we do not want to know about your ways. ¹⁵ What is Shaddai, that we should serve him? What profit should we have, if we pray to him?'

¹⁰ "Oh that there were one among you who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on my altar in vain. I have no pleasure in you," says the LORD of hosts, "neither will I accept an offering at your hand.

²⁶ For what will it profit a person, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his life? Or what will a person give in exchange for his life?

⁸ For bodily exercise has some value, but godliness has value in all things, having the promise of the life which is now, and of that which is to come.

⁶ But godliness with contentment is great gain.

¹ After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield; your reward will be very great."

¹² Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year one hundred times what he planted. The LORD blessed him.

³⁰ For you had little before I came, and it has increased abundantly. And God has blessed you wherever I worked. Now when will I also provide for my own household?"

⁴³ Thus the man became very rich, and had large flocks, female servants and male servants, and camels and donkeys.

⁵ And it came about that from the time that he made him overseer of his household and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptianʼs house because of Joseph; and the blessing of the LORD was on all that he had, in the house and in the field.

²⁵ by the God of your father, who will help you, and El Shaddai, who will bless you with blessings of the sky above, blessings of the deep that lies below, and blessings of the breasts and of the womb.

¹³ and he will love you, and bless you, and multiply you; he will also bless the fruit of your body and the fruit of your ground, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the increase of your livestock and the young of your flock, in the land which he swore to your fathers to give you.

² and all these blessings shall come on you, and overtake you, if you shall listen to the voice of the LORD your God. ³ You shall be blessed in the city, and you shall be blessed in the field. ⁴ You shall be blessed in the fruit of your body, the fruit of your ground, the fruit of your animals, the increase of your livestock, and the young of your flock. ⁵ Your basket and your kneading trough shall be blessed. ⁶ You shall be blessed when you come in, and you shall be blessed when you go out.

¹¹ LORD, bless his substance. Accept the work of his hands. Strike the loins of those who rise against him, of those who hate him, that they not rise again."

²⁷ The God of old is a dwelling place. Underneath are the everlasting arms. He thrust out the enemy from before you, and said, 'Destroy.'

¹⁶ They were a wall to us both by night and by day, all the while we were with them keeping the sheep.

³ His possessions also were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the east.

⁶ when my steps were washed with butter, and the rock poured out streams of oil for me,

²⁵ If I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;

¹² For you bless the righteous, LORD. You surround him with favor like a shield.

⁷ The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.

²¹ Increase my honor, and comfort me again.

¹² Why have you broken down its walls, so that all those who pass by the way pluck it?

¹⁷ Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us; establish the work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands.

¹ [A Song of Ascents.] Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways. ² For you will eat the labor of your hands; you will be blessed, and it will be well with you. ³ Your wife will be as a fruitful vine, in the innermost parts of your house; your children like olive plants, around your table. ⁴ Look, thus is the man blessed who fears the LORD.

² He dug it up, gathered out its stones, planted it with the choicest vine, built a tower in its midst, and also cut out a winepress in it. He looked for it to yield grapes, but it yielded wild grapes.

⁵ Now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard. I will take away its hedge, and it will be eaten up. I will break down its wall of it, and it will be trampled down.

⁵ For I,' says the LORD, 'will be to her a wall of fire around it, and I will be the glory in the midst of her.

⁸ For thus says the LORD of hosts: 'For honor he has sent me to the nations which plundered you; for he who touches you touches the apple of my eye.

⁵ who by the power of God are guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

¹¹ Abimelech commanded all the people, saying, "He who touches this man or his wife will surely be put to death."

⁵ It was so, when the days of their feasting had run their course, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, "It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts." Job did so continually.

¹² The LORD said to Satan, "Look, all that he has is in your power. Only do not put forth your hand on him." So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

⁵ But put forth your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face."

⁵ But now it is come to you, and you faint. It touches you, and you are troubled.

²¹ "Have pity on me, have pity on me, you my friends; for the hand of God has touched me.

¹⁵ "Do not touch my anointed ones. Do my prophets no harm."

²⁵ Therefore the LORD's anger burns against his people, and he has stretched out his hand against them, and has struck them. The mountains tremble, and their dead bodies are as refuse in the midst of the streets. For all this, his anger is not turned away, but his hand is still stretched out.

²¹ They will pass through it, greatly distressed and hungry; and it will happen that when they are hungry, they will worry, and curse by their king and by their God. They will turn their faces upward,

¹³ "Your words have been stout against me," says the LORD. "Yet you say, 'What have we spoken against you?' ¹⁴ You have said, 'It is vain to serve God;' and 'What profit is it that we have followed his instructions, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts?

⁹ People were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has the power over these plagues. They did not repent and give him glory.

¹¹ and they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores. They did not repent of their works.

²¹ Great hailstones, about one hundred pounds each, came down out of the sky on people. People blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, for this plague is exceedingly severe.

⁶ But Abram said to Sarai, "Look, your servant is in your hand. Do to her whatever is good in your sight." Sarai dealt harshly with her, so she fled from her presence.

²³ Now therefore, look, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets; and the LORD has pronounced disaster against you."

⁴ Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, "Skin for skin. Indeed, all that a man has he will give for his life. ⁵ But put forth your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face." ⁶ The LORD said to Satan, "Look, he is in your power. Only preserve his life." ⁷ So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD, and struck Job with painful boils from the sole of his foot to the top of his head.

¹⁰ Surely the wrath of man praises you. The survivors of your wrath are restrained.

⁸ In measure, when you send them away, you contend with them. He has removed them with his rough blast in the day of the east wind.

⁵ Zedekiah the king said, "Look, he is in your hand; for the king is not he who can do anything against you."

³² Now there was there a herd of many pigs feeding on the mountain, and they begged him that he would allow them to enter into those. He allowed them. ³³ The demons came out from the man, and entered into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake, and were drowned.

³¹ And the Lord said, "Simon, Simon, look, Satan asked to have you, that he might sift you as wheat, ³² but I prayed for you, that your faith would not fail. You, when once you have turned again, establish your brothers."

³⁵ The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand. ³⁶ Whoever believes in the Son has everlasting life, but whoever refuses to believe in the Son won't see life, but the wrath of God remains on him."

¹¹ Jesus answered, "You would have no power at all against me, unless it were given to you from above. Therefore he who delivered me to you has greater sin."

¹³ No temptation has taken you except what is common to humanity. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

⁷ And because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, therefore, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to pound away at me, to keep me from exalting myself.

⁴ His sons went and held a feast in the house of each one on his day; and they sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.

¹ Do not boast about tomorrow; for you do not know what a day may bring forth.

¹² For man also doesn't know his time. As the fish that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare, even so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falls suddenly on them.

¹⁹ I will tell my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take your ease, eat, drink, be merry."' ²⁰ "But God said to him, 'You foolish one, tonight your soul is required of you. The things which you have prepared—whose will they be?'

²⁷ They ate, they drank, they married, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the box-shaped vessel, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. ²⁸ Likewise, even as it happened in the days of Lot: they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; ²⁹ but in the day that Lot went out from Sodom, it rained fire and sulfur from the sky, and destroyed them all.

³⁴ "So be careful, or your hearts will be loaded down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that day will come on you suddenly.

¹⁷ He who brought the news answered, "Israel has fled before the Philistines, and there has been also a great slaughter among the people. Your two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God has been captured."

¹³ A messenger came to David, saying, "The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom."

³¹ One runner will run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to show the king of Babylon that his city is taken on every quarter:

⁷ The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.

²⁸ and Obal, and Abimael, and Sheba,

³ Jokshan became the father of Sheba, and Dedan. The sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim.

²⁰ One of the sons of Ahimelech, the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped, and fled after David. ²¹ Abiathar told David that Saul had slain the LORD's priests.

¹⁶ While he was still speaking, there also came another, and said, "The fire of God has fallen from the sky, and has burned up the sheep and the young men, and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you." ¹⁷ While he was still speaking, there came also another, and said, "The Kasdim made three bands, and swept down on the camels, and have taken them away, and killed the young men with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you."

¹⁹ and look, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young men, and they are dead. I alone have escaped to tell you."

¹⁹ The caravans of Tema looked. The companies of Sheba waited for them.

¹⁰ The kings of Tarshish and of the islands will bring tribute. The kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.

¹⁴ Thus says the LORD: "The labor of Egypt, and the merchandise of Ethiopia, and the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over to you, and they shall be yours. They will go after you. They shall come over in chains; and they will bow down to you. They will make petition to you: 'Surely God is in you; and there is no other. There is no other god.

⁴² The voice of a multitude being at ease was with her: and with men of the common sort were brought drunkards from the wilderness; and they put bracelets on their hands twain, and beautiful crowns on their heads.

⁸ and I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hands of the people of Judah, and they will sell them to the men of Sheba, to a faraway nation, for the LORD has spoken it."

²⁴ Then the LORD rained on Sodom and on Gomorrah sulfur and fire from the sky.

²⁸ Pray to the LORD; for there has been enough of God's thunder and hail and fire. I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer."

²⁴ There came forth fire from before the LORD, and consumed the burnt offering and the fat upon the altar: and when all the people saw it, they shouted, and fell on their faces.

² And fire came forth from before the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.

¹ The people were complaining in the ears of the LORD. When the LORD heard it, his anger was kindled; and the LORD's fire burnt among them, and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp. ² The people cried to Moses; and Moses prayed to the LORD, and the fire abated. ³ The name of that place was called Taberah, because the LORD's fire burnt among them.

¹⁵ And there was a terror in the camp, in the field, and among all the people. The garrison and even the raiders were terrified. And the earth quaked, and it became a terror of God.

³⁸ Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

¹⁰ Elijah answered to the captain of fifty, "If I am a man of God, let fire come down from the sky, and consume you and your fifty." Fire came down from the sky, and consumed him and his fifty.

¹² And Elijah answered and said to him, "If I am a man of God, let fire come down from the sky, and consume you and your fifty." The fire of God came down from the sky, and consumed him and his fifty.

¹⁴ Look, fire came down from the sky, and consumed the two former captains of fifty with their fifties. But now let my life be precious in your sight."

⁴ This is what the LORD showed me: And look, the LORD called for judgment by fire; and it dried up the great deep, and would have devoured the land.

¹³ He performs great signs, even making fire come down out of heaven to the earth in the sight of people.

²⁸ And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his birth, in Ur Kasdim.

³¹ And Terah took Abram his son, Lot the son of Haran, his grandson, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abramʼs wife, and with them he set out from Ur Kasdim to go into the land of Canaan. But when they came to Haran, they settled there.

³ David said to him, "Where do you come from?" He said to him, "I have escaped out of the camp of Israel."

¹⁵ and Sheba attacked, and took them away. Yes, they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you."

¹³ Look, the land of the Chaldeans. This people was not. The Assyrians founded it for those who dwell in the wilderness. They set up their towers. They overthrew its palaces. They made it a ruin.

⁶ For, look, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, that march through the breadth of the earth, to possess dwelling places not his own.

²⁸ And Absalom commanded his servants, saying, "Mark now, when Amnon's heart is merry with wine; and when I tell you, 'Strike Amnon,' then kill him. Do not be afraid. Haven't I commanded you? Be courageous, and be valiant."

¹³ Now the day came when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house,

² "Oh that my anguish were weighed, and all my calamity laid in the balances. ³ For now it would be heavier than the sand of the seas, therefore have my words been rash.

¹⁴ He breaks me with breach on breach. He runs on me like a giant.

⁹ He has stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head. ¹⁰ He has broken me down on every side, and I am gone. My hope he has plucked up like a tree.

² "Even today my complaint is rebellious. His hand is heavy in spite of my groaning.

¹⁴ If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword. His offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.

¹⁹ Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all.

² It is the same for all: one event to the righteous and to the wicked, to the good and to the evil, and to the clean and to the unclean, to him who sacrifices, and to him who doesn't sacrifice. As is the good, so is the sinner; he who swears is as he who fears an oath.

¹⁹ As often as it passes through, it will seize you; for morning by morning it will pass through, by day and by night; and it will be nothing but terror to understand the message."

¹² Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look, and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow, which is brought on me, with which the LORD has afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger.

⁶ "I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and lack of bread in every town; yet you haven't returned to me," says the LORD. ⁷ "I also have withheld the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest; and I caused it to rain on one city, and caused it not to rain on another city. One place was rained on, and the piece where it did not rain withered. ⁸ So two or three cities staggered to one city to drink water, and were not satisfied: yet you haven't returned to me," says the LORD. ⁹ "I struck you with blight and mildew many times in your gardens and your vineyards; and your fig trees and your olive trees have the swarming locust devoured: yet you haven't returned to me," says the LORD. ¹⁰ "I sent plagues among you like I did Egypt. I have slain your young men with the sword, and have carried away your horses; and I filled your nostrils with the stench of your camp, yet you haven't returned to me," says the LORD. ¹¹ "I have overthrown some of you, as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were like a burning stick plucked out of the fire; yet you haven't returned to me," says the LORD.

³² And they sent the long ornamented robe and they brought it to their father, and said, "We found this. Please examine it to see whether it is your sonʼs robe or not." ³³ And he recognized it, and said, "It is my sonʼs robe. A vicious animal has devoured him. Joseph is without doubt torn to pieces."

³⁶ Then their father Jacob said to them, “You have deprived me of my children. Joseph is no more, Simeon is no more, and you want to take Benjamin away. All this has come against me."

³⁰ Samson said, "Let me die with the Philistines." He bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell on the lords, and on all the people who were in it. So the dead that he killed at his death were more than those who he killed in his life.

³³ The king was much moved, and went up to the room over the gate, and wept. As he went, he said, "My son Absalom. My son, my son Absalom. I wish I had died for you, Absalom, my son, my son."

³⁰ But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and the wall fell on twenty-seven thousand men who were left. Ben Hadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner room.

¹¹ At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem, "A hot wind from the bare heights in the wilderness toward the daughter of my people, not to winnow, nor to cleanse; ¹² a full wind from these shall come for me. Now I will also utter judgments against them."

²⁷ And the rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house; and it fell—and great was its fall."

¹ Now there were some present at the same time who told him about the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. ² And he answered and said to them, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered these things? ³ I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all perish in the same way. ⁴ Or those eighteen, on whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them; do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who dwell in Jerusalem? ⁵ I tell you, no, but, unless you repent, you will all perish in the same way."

⁴ When the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said one to another, "No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped from the sea, yet Justice has not allowed to live."

² in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the children of disobedience;

²⁹ And Reuben returned to the cistern and saw that Joseph wasnʼt in the cistern; and he tore his clothes.

³⁴ Then Jacob tore his clothes, and put sackcloth around his waist, and mourned for his son many days.

¹⁸ I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water; because of all your sin which you sinned, in doing that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

¹⁶ Then David sought from God on behalf of the child. And David fasted, and went in and lay all night on the ground. ¹⁷ And the elders of his house approached him to lift him up from the ground, but he was unwilling, and he would not eat food with them. ¹⁸ It happened on the seventh day, that the child died. The servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead; for they said, "Look, while the child was yet alive, we spoke to him, and he did not listen to our voice. How will he then harm himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?" ¹⁹ But when David noticed that his servants were whispering together, David perceived that the child was dead; and David said to his servants, "Is the child dead?" They said, "He is dead." ²⁰ Then David arose from the ground, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his clothing; and he came into the house of the LORD, and worshiped. Then he went to his own house, and he asked for bread to eat. And they set bread before him, and he ate.

³ All the children of Israel looked on, when the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD was on the house; and they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground on the pavement, and worshiped, and gave thanks to the LORD, saying, "For he is good; for his loving kindness endures for ever."

³ When I heard this thing, I tore my garment and my robe, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down confounded.

³⁹ He went forward a little, fell on his face, and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from me; nevertheless, not what I desire, but what you desire."

⁶ Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time;

¹⁹ By the sweat of your face will you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For you are dust, and to dust you shall return."

² Then Jacob became very angry with Rachel, and he said, "Am I in God's place, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?"

⁵ Now do not be upset or angry with yourselves that you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.

⁷ The LORD makes poor, and makes rich. He brings low, he also lifts up.

¹⁸ And Samuel told him everything, and did not hide anything from him. And he said, "It is the LORD. Let him do what seems good to him."

¹² It may be that the LORD will look on my affliction and return good to me for his cursing today."

¹⁵ So the king did not listen to the people; for it was a thing brought about of the LORD, that he might establish his word, which the LORD spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

¹⁹ Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "The word of the LORD which you have spoken is good." He said moreover, "Isn't it so, if peace and truth shall be in my days?"

¹ [By David; when he pretended to be insane before Abimelech, who drove him away, and he departed.] I will bless the LORD at all times. His praise will always be in my mouth.

⁹ I was mute. I did not open my mouth, because you did it.

¹⁷ For when he dies he shall carry nothing away. His glory shall not descend after him.

³⁸ But you have rejected and spurned. You have been angry with your anointed. ³⁹ You have renounced the covenant of your servant. You have defiled his crown in the dust. ⁴⁰ You have broken down all his hedges. You have brought his strongholds to ruin. ⁴¹ All who pass by the way rob him. He has become an object of ridicule to his neighbors. ⁴² You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries. You have made all of his enemies rejoice. ⁴³ Yes, you turn back the edge of his sword, and haven't supported him in battle. ⁴⁴ You have ended his splendor, and thrown his throne down to the ground. ⁴⁵ You have shortened the days of his youth. You have covered him with shame. Selah. ⁴⁶ How long, LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? Will your wrath burn like fire? ⁴⁷ Remember how short my time is. Have you created the descendants of Adam for no reason? ⁴⁸ What man is he who shall live and not see death, who shall deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? Selah. ⁴⁹ Lord, where are your former loving kindnesses, which you swore to David in your faithfulness? ⁵⁰ Remember, Lord, the ridicule of all the many peoples against your servants I have borne in my heart, ⁵¹ how your enemies have ridiculed, LORD, how they have ridiculed the footsteps of your anointed one. ⁵² Blessed be the LORD forevermore. Amen, and Amen.

¹⁵ As he came forth from his mother's womb, naked shall he go again as he came, and shall take nothing for his labor, which he may carry away in his hand.

¹⁹ Every man also to whom God has given riches and wealth, and has given him power to eat of it, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labor—this is the gift of God.

⁷ and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

¹⁵ Therefore glorify the LORD in the east, even the name of the LORD, the God of Israel, in the islands of the sea.

²⁴ Who gave Jacob as plunder, and Israel to the robbers? Did not the LORD, he against whom we have sinned? For they would not walk in his ways, and they disobeyed his law.

⁷ I form the light, and create darkness. I make peace, and create calamity. I am the LORD, who does all these things.

³⁸ Doesn't both calamity and good come out of the mouth of the Most High?

⁶ Does the trumpet alarm sound in a city, without the people being afraid? Does disaster happen to a city, unless the LORD has done it?

¹⁵ Is it not lawful for me to do what I want to with what I own? Or is your eye evil, because I am good?'

²⁸ to do whatever your hand and your council foreordained to happen.

²⁰ giving thanks always concerning all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father;

¹⁸ In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.

⁷ For we brought nothing into the world, so neither can we carry anything out.

¹⁷ All generous giving and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow.

I lay my hand on my mouth. ⁵ I have spoken once, and I will not answer; Yes, twice, but I will proceed no further." ⁶ Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, ⁷ "Now brace yourself like a man. I will question you, and you will answer me. ⁸ Will you even annul my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be justified?

²⁰ But who indeed are you, a human being, to reply against God? Will the thing formed ask him who formed it, "Why did you make me like this?"

⁴ Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

¹² Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which he promised to those who love him.

⁷ that the genuineness of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes even though it is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ—
