¹ "Man, who is born of a woman, is of few days, and full of trouble. ² He comes forth like a flower, and is cut down. He also flees like a shadow, and doesn't continue. ³ Do you open your eyes on such a one, and bring me into judgment with you? ⁴ Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? Not one. ⁵ Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months is with you, and you have appointed his bounds that he can't pass; ⁶ Look away from him, that he may rest, until he shall accomplish, as a hireling, his day. ⁷ "For there is hope for a tree, If it is cut down, that it will sprout again, that the tender branch of it will not cease. ⁸ Though its root grows old in the earth, and its stock dies in the ground, ⁹ yet through the scent of water it will bud, and put forth boughs like a plant. ¹⁰ But man dies, and is laid low. Yes, man gives up the spirit, and where is he? ¹¹ As the waters fail from the sea, and the river wastes and dries up, ¹² so man lies down and doesn't rise. Until the heavens are no more, they shall not awake, nor be roused out of their sleep. ¹³ "Oh that you would hide me in Sheol, that you would keep me secret, until your wrath is past, that you would appoint me a set time, and remember me. ¹⁴ If a man dies, shall he live again? All the days of my warfare would I wait, until my release should come. ¹⁵ You would call, and I would answer you. You would have a desire to the work of your hands. ¹⁶ But now you number my steps. Do you not watch over my sin? ¹⁷ My disobedience is sealed up in a bag. You fasten up my iniquity. ¹⁸ "But the mountain falling comes to nothing. The rock is removed out of its place; ¹⁹ The waters wear the stones. The torrents of it wash away the dust of the earth. So you destroy the hope of man. ²⁰ You forever prevail against him, and he departs. You change his face, and send him away. ²¹ His sons come to honor, and he doesn't know it. They are brought low, but he doesn't perceive it of them. ²² But his flesh on him has pain, and his soul within him mourns."

⁹ So Jacob said to Pharaoh, "The days of the years of my sojourning are one hundred thirty years. Few and difficult have been the years of my life, and they have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their sojourning."

⁷ but man is born to trouble, as the sparks fly upward.

¹ "Isn't a man forced to labor on earth? Aren't his days like the days of a hired hand?

⁶ My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, and are spent without hope.

²⁵ "Now my days are swifter than a runner. They flee away, they see no good,

¹⁴ What is man, that he should be clean? What is he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?

⁴ How then can man be just with God? Or how can he who is born of a woman be clean?

⁵ Look, you have made my days handbreadths. My lifetime is as nothing before you. Surely every man stands as a breath." Selah.

⁵ Look, I was brought forth in iniquity. In sin my mother conceived me.

¹⁷ So I hated life, because the work that is worked under the sun was grievous to me; for all is vanity and a chasing after wind.

²³ For all his days are sorrows, and his travail is grief; yes, even in the night his heart takes no rest. This also is vanity.

¹¹ Truly I tell you, among those who are born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

¹⁵ For we are strangers before you, and foreigners, as all our fathers were. Our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is no remaining.

⁹ (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days on earth are a shadow.)

²⁵ "Now my days are swifter than a runner. They flee away, they see no good, ²⁶ They have passed away as the swift ships, as the eagle that swoops on the prey.

⁵ You sweep them away as they sleep. In the morning they sprout like new grass. ⁶ In the morning it sprouts and springs up. By evening, it is withered and dry. ⁷ For we are consumed in your anger. We are troubled in your wrath. ⁸ You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence. ⁹ For all our days have passed away in your wrath. We bring our years to an end as a sigh.

⁷ though the wicked spring up as the grass, and all the evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever.

¹² The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree. He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

¹¹ My days are like a long shadow. I have withered like grass.

¹⁵ As for man, his days are like grass. As a flower of the field, so he flourishes. ¹⁶ For the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.

⁴ Man is like a breath. His days are like a shadow that passes away.

¹³ But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he lengthen days like a shadow; because he doesn't fear God.

⁶ The voice of one saying, "Cry." And I said, "What shall I cry?" "All flesh is like grass, and all its glory is like the flower of the field. ⁷ The grass withers, the flower fades, because the LORD's breath blows on it. Surely the people are like grass. ⁸ The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of the LORD stands forever."

¹⁰ and the rich, in that he is made humble, because like the flower in the grass, he will pass away. ¹¹ For the sun arises with the scorching wind, and withers the grass, and the flower in it falls, and the beauty of its appearance perishes. So also will the rich person fade away in his pursuits.

¹⁴ Whereas you do not know what tomorrow will be like. What is your life? For you are a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

²⁴ For, "All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flower in the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls;

¹⁷ What is man, that you should magnify him, that you should set your mind on him, ¹⁸ that you should visit him every morning, and test him every moment?

¹⁹ If it is a matter of strength, look, he is mighty. And if of justice, who will summon him? ²⁰ Though I am righteous, my own mouth shall condemn me. Though I am blameless, it shall prove me perverse.

³² For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, that we should come together in judgment.

²⁵ Will you harass a driven leaf? Will you pursue the dry stubble?

²⁷ You also put my feet in the stocks, and mark all my paths. You set a bound to the soles of my feet,

⁴ what is man, that you think of him, and the son of man that you care for him?

² Do not enter into judgment with your servant, for in your sight no man living is righteous.

³ LORD, what is man, that you care for him? Or the son of man, that you think of him?

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever things the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be closed, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God.

³ Adam lived two hundred and thirty years, and became the father of a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth.

⁴ How then can man be just with God? Or how can he who is born of a woman be clean? ⁵ Look, even the moon has no brightness, and the stars are not pure in his sight; ⁶ How much less man, who is a worm, the son of man, who is a worm."

⁵ You sweep them away as they sleep. In the morning they sprout like new grass.

³⁵ The angel answered her, "The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore also the holy one who is born will be called the Son of God.

⁶ That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

¹² Therefore, as sin entered into the world through one man, and death through sin; and so death passed to all people, because all sinned.

⁸ And those who are in the flesh cannot please God. ⁹ But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if it is so that the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to him.

³ among whom we also all once lived in the lust of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.

¹⁰ in whose hand is the life of every living thing, and the breath of all humankind?

¹⁴ If a man dies, shall he live again? All the days of my warfare would I wait, until my release should come.

²¹ For what does he care for his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off?

¹³ But he stands alone, and who can oppose him? What his soul desires, even that he does. ¹⁴ For he performs that which is appointed for me. Many such things are with him.

⁴ "LORD, show me my end, what is the measure of my days. Let me know how frail I am.

⁹ You have set a boundary that they may not pass over; that they do not turn again to cover the earth.

²⁹ You hide your face: they are troubled; you take away their breath: they die, and return to the dust.

³⁵ All the inhabitants of the earth are regarded as nothing; and he does according to his will in the host of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand, or tell him, "What have you done?"

²⁶ This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God has numbered your kingdom, and brought it to an end;

³⁰ In that night Belshazzar the Chaldean King was slain.

²⁴ Seventy weeks are decreed on your people and on your holy city, to put an end to the transgression, and to make an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy place.

³⁶ And the king shall do as he pleases. And he shall exalt and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak outrageous things against the God of gods. And he shall prosper until the indignation is accomplished; for that which is decreed shall be done.

²⁰ "But God said to him, 'You foolish one, tonight your soul is required of you. The things which you have prepared—whose will they be?'

²⁶ He made from one blood every nation of the human race to dwell on all the surface of the earth, having determined appointed seasons, and the boundaries of their dwellings,

²⁷ Inasmuch as it is appointed for people to die once, and after this, judgment,

¹⁸ and the Living one. I was dead, but look, I am alive forevermore. I have the keys of Death and of hell.

⁷ "To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: "These are the words of the Holy One, the True One, he who has the key of David, he who opens and no one can shut, and who shuts and no one opens:

¹ "Isn't a man forced to labor on earth? Aren't his days like the days of a hired hand? ² As a servant who earnestly desires the shadow, as a hireling who looks for his wages,

¹⁶ I loathe my life. I do not want to live forever. Leave me alone, for my days are but a breath.

¹⁹ How long will you not look away from me, nor leave me alone until I swallow down my spittle?

²⁰ Aren't my days few? Cease then. Leave me alone, that I may find a little comfort,

¹³ Oh spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go away, and exist no more."

¹ "For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. ² When he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. ³ He went out about nine in the morning, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace. ⁴ To them he said, 'You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.' So they went their way. ⁵ Again he went out about noon and at three in the afternoon, and did likewise. ⁶ About five that afternoon he went out, and found others standing. He said to them, 'Why do you stand here all day idle?' ⁷ "They said to him, 'Because no one has hired us.' "He said to them, 'You also go into the vineyard.' ⁸ When evening had come, the lord of the vineyard said to his manager, 'Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning from the last to the first.'

¹⁰ He has broken me down on every side, and I am gone. My hope he has plucked up like a tree.

¹ A branch will come out of the stock of Jesse, and a shoot out of his roots will bear fruit.

⁶ In days to come, Jacob will take root. Israel will blossom and bud. They will fill the surface of the world with fruit.

¹⁵ Nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and bronze, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of the sky: and let his portion be with the animals in the grass of the earth.

²³ Whereas the king saw a watcher and a holy one coming down from the sky, and saying, 'Cut down the tree, and destroy it; nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and bronze, in the tender grass of the field, and let it be wet with the dew of the sky: and let his portion be with the animals of the field, until seven times pass over him. ²⁴ This is the interpretation, O king, and it is the decree of the Most High, which is come on my lord the king: ²⁵ that you shall be driven from men, and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field, and you shall be made to eat grass as oxen, and shall be wet with the dew of the sky, and seven times shall pass over you; until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will.

¹⁹ Your dead shall live; my dead bodies shall rise. Awake and shout for joy, you who dwell in the dust; for your dew is like the dew of the dawn, and the earth shall bring forth the departed spirits.

²⁴ Truly, truly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains by itself alone. But if it dies, it bears much fruit.

³⁶ You foolish one, that which you yourself sow is not made alive unless it dies.

³ and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "A great eagle with great wings and long feathers, full of feathers, which had various colors, came to Lebanon, and took the top of the cedar: ⁴ he cropped off the topmost of the young twigs of it, and carried it to a land of traffic; he set it in a city of merchants. ⁵ He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful soil; he placed it beside many waters; he set it as a willow tree. ⁶ It grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and its roots were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs. ⁷ '"There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and look, this vine bent its roots toward him, and shot forth its branches toward him, from the beds of its plantation, that he might water it. ⁸ It was planted in a good soil by many waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine."' ⁹ "Say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "Shall it prosper? Shall he not pull up its roots, and cut off its fruit, that it may wither; that all its fresh springing leaves may wither? And not by a strong arm or many people can it be raised from its roots. ¹⁰ Yes, look, being planted, shall it prosper? Shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind touches it? It shall wither in the beds where it grew."'"

²² "Thus says the Lord GOD: 'I will also take of the lofty top of the cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the topmost of its young twigs a tender one, and I will plant it on a high and lofty mountain: ²³ in the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it; and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all birds of every wing; in the shade of its branches shall they dwell. ²⁴ All the trees of the field shall know that I, the LORD, have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish; I, the LORD, have spoken and have done it.'"

¹⁰ "'Your mother was like a vine in your vineyard, planted by the waters: it was fruitful and full of branches by reason of many waters.

¹⁷ But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them, and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree; ¹⁸ do not boast over the branches. But if you boast, it is not you who support the root, but the root supports you. ¹⁹ You will say then, "Branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in." ²⁰ True; by their unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by your faith. Do not be conceited, but fear; ²¹ for if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you. ²² See then the goodness and severity of God. Toward those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in his goodness; otherwise you also will be cut off. ²³ They also, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. ²⁴ For if you were cut out of that which is by nature a wild olive tree, and were grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree, how much more will these, which are the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?

³³ When Jacob finished instructing his sons, he drew his legs up into the bed and breathed his last, and was gathered to his people.

¹¹ "Why did I not die from the womb? Why did I not give up the spirit when my mother bore me?

⁷ Oh remember that my life is a breath. My eye shall no more see good. ⁸ The eye of him who sees me shall see me no more. Your eyes shall be on me, but I shall not be. ⁹ As the cloud is consumed and vanishes away, so he who goes down to Sheol shall come up no more. ¹⁰ He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more.

¹⁸ "'Why, then, have you brought me forth out of the womb? I wish I had given up the spirit, and no eye had seen me.

²⁰ But the eyes of the wicked shall fail. They shall have no way to flee. Their hope shall be the giving up of the spirit."

¹² so man lies down and doesn't rise. Until the heavens are no more, they shall not awake, nor be roused out of their sleep.

¹³ If I look for Sheol as my house, if I have spread my couch in the darkness, ¹⁴ If I have said to corruption, 'You are my father;' to the worm, 'My mother,' and 'my sister;' ¹⁵ where then is my hope? As for my hope, who shall see it? ¹⁶ Shall it go down with me to the gates of Sheol, or descend together into the dust?"

²⁶ After my skin is destroyed, then in my flesh shall I see God,

³² The wicked is brought down in his calamity, but the righteous has a refuge in his death.

⁵⁰ And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up his spirit.

²² It happened that the beggar died, and that he was carried away by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died, and was buried. ²³ In hell, he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far off, and Lazarus at his bosom.

¹⁰ She fell down immediately at his feet, and died. The young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her by her husband.

¹⁵ My brothers have dealt deceitfully as a brook, as the channel of brooks that pass away; ¹⁶ Which are black by reason of the ice, in which the snow hides itself. ¹⁷ In the dry season, they vanish. When it is hot, they are consumed out of their place. ¹⁸ The caravans that travel beside them turn aside. They go up into the waste, and perish.

⁵ The waters will fail from the sea, and the river will be wasted and become dry.

¹⁸ Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuses to be healed? Will you indeed be to me as a deceitful brook, as waters that fail?"

¹³ For now should I have lain down and been quiet. I should have slept, then I would have been at rest,

²¹ Why do you not pardon my disobedience, and take away my iniquity? For now shall I lie down in the dust. You will seek me diligently, but I shall not be."

²¹ before I go where I shall not return from, to the land of darkness and of the shadow of death; ²² the land dark as midnight, of the shadow of death, without any order, where the light is as midnight.'"

²⁵ But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives. In the end, he will stand upon the earth. ²⁶ After my skin is destroyed, then in my flesh shall I see God, ²⁷ Whom I, even I, shall see on my side. My eyes shall see, and not as a stranger. My heart is consumed within me.

²³ For I know that you will bring me to death, To the house appointed for all living.

²⁶ They will perish, but you remain; and they will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a cloak, and they will be changed.

¹⁹ For that which happens to the sons of men happens to animals. Even one thing happens to them. As the one dies, so the other dies. Yes, they have all one breath; and man has no advantage over the animals: for all is vanity. ²⁰ All go to one place. All are from the dust, and all turn to dust again. ²¹ Who knows the spirit of man, whether it goes upward, and the spirit of the animal, whether it goes downward to the earth?"

⁵ Also, they are afraid of heights, and of terrors in the way; and the almond tree blossoms, and the grasshopper is burdened, and the caper bush fails; because man goes to his everlasting home, and the mourners go about the streets:

⁶ Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look on the earth beneath; for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment; and those who dwell in it shall die in the same way: but my salvation shall be forever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.

¹⁷ "For, look, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former things shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

²² "For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me," says the LORD, "so your descendants and your name shall remain.

² Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

³⁵ Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

¹¹ He said these things, and after that, he said to them, "Our friend, Lazarus, has fallen asleep, but I am going so that I may awake him out of sleep." ¹² Then the disciples said to him, "Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover." ¹³ Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he spoke of taking rest in sleep.

²¹ whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God spoke long ago by the mouth of his holy prophets.

²⁰ For the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will, but because of him who subjected it, in hope

¹⁴ Therefore he says, "Awake, you who sleep, and rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."

¹⁴ For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. ¹⁵ For this we tell you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left to the coming of the Lord, will in no way precede those who have fallen asleep.

⁷ But the heavens that now are, and the earth, by the same word have been stored up for fire, being reserved against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly people.

¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come as a thief; in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works on it will not be found. ¹¹ Therefore since all these things will be destroyed like this, what kind of people ought you to be in holy living and godliness, ¹² looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, which will cause the burning heavens to be dissolved, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? ¹³ But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

¹¹ I saw a great white throne, and him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. There was found no place for them.

¹ I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth have passed away, and the sea is no more.

¹ And God remembered Noah, and all the wild animals, and all the tame animals, and all the flying creatures, and all the crawling creatures that were with him in the vessel; and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters began to recede.

¹⁷ There the wicked cease from troubling. There the weary are at rest. ¹⁸ There the prisoners are at ease together. They do not hear the voice of the taskmaster. ¹⁹ The small and the great are there. The servant is free from his master.

⁴ Remember me, LORD, with the favor that you show to your people. Visit me with your salvation,

¹ In that day you will say, "I will give thanks to you, the LORD; for you were angry with me, but your anger has turned away and you comfort me.

²⁰ Come, my people, enter into your chambers, and shut your doors behind you. Hide yourself for a little moment, until the indignation is past. ²¹ For, look, the LORD comes forth out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity. The earth also will disclose her blood, and will no longer cover her slain.

¹ The righteous perishes, and no man lays it to heart; and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil. ² He enters into peace; they rest in their beds, each one who walks in his uprightness.

³² But of that day or the hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

⁴² And he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom."

⁷ He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has set within his own authority.

³¹ because he has appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he has ordained; of which he has given assurance to everyone by raising him from the dead."

¹⁵ Look, he will kill me. I have no hope. Nevertheless, I will maintain my ways before him.

⁵ Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months is with you, and you have appointed his bounds that he can't pass;

²⁵ But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives. In the end, he will stand upon the earth. ²⁶ After my skin is destroyed, then in my flesh shall I see God,

¹⁶ After this Job lived one hundred forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, to four generations.

¹⁴ Wait for the LORD. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for the LORD.

¹ [For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David.] I waited patiently for the LORD, and he turned to me, and heard my cry. ² He also brought me up out of a pit of tumult, out of the miry clay; and he set my feet on a rock, making my steps secure.

²⁵ The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul that seeks him. ²⁶ It is good that a man should hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

¹ The hand of the LORD was on me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones. ² He caused me to pass by them all around: and look, there were very many in the open valley; and look, they were very dry. ³ He said to me, "Son of man, can these bones live?" I answered, "Lord GOD, you know." ⁴ Again he said to me, "Prophesy over these bones, and tell them, 'You dry bones, hear the word of the LORD.' ⁵ Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: 'Look, I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live. ⁶ I will lay sinews on you, and will bring up flesh on you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live; and you shall know that I am the LORD.'" ⁷ So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and look, an earthquake; and the bones came together, bone to its bone. ⁸ I saw, and, look, there were sinews on them, and flesh came up, and skin covered them above; but there was no breath in them. ⁹ Then he said to me, "Prophesy to the wind, prophesy, son of man, and tell the wind, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: Come from the four winds, breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.'" ¹⁰ So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up on their feet, an exceedingly great army. ¹¹ Then he said to me, "Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: look, they say, 'Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are completely cut off.' ¹² Therefore prophesy, and tell them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: Look, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, my people; and I will bring you into the land of Israel. ¹³ You shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, and caused you to come up out of your graves, my people. ¹⁴ I will put my Spirit in you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land: and you shall know that I, the LORD, have spoken it and performed it,' says the LORD."

²⁹ But Jesus answered them, "You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God. ³⁰ For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are like the angels in heaven. ³¹ But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying, ³² 'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?' God is not the God of the dead, but of the living."

²⁸ Do not be amazed at this, for the hour comes, in which all that are in the tombs will hear his voice, ²⁹ and will come out; those who have done good, to the resurrection of life; and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment.

⁸ Why is it judged incredible with you, if God does raise the dead?

⁴² So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption. ⁴³ It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. ⁴⁴ It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body and there is also a spiritual body.

⁵¹ Look, I tell you a mystery. We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, ⁵² in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed.

²¹ who will transform our lowly body into the likeness of his glorious body, according to the power by which he is able even to subject all things to himself.

¹⁴ For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. ¹⁵ For this we tell you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left to the coming of the Lord, will in no way precede those who have fallen asleep. ¹⁶ For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with God's trumpet. The dead in Christ will rise first,

⁷ Be patient therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Look, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receives the early and late rain. ⁸ You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near.

¹³ The sea gave up the dead who were in it. Death and hell gave up the dead who were in them. They were judged, each one according to his works.

³ Is it good to you that you should oppress, that you should despise the work of your hands, and smile on the counsel of the wicked?

⁸ "'Your hands have framed me and fashioned me altogether, yet you destroy me.

²² Then call, and I will answer; or let me speak, and you answer me.

⁴ He calls to the heavens above, to the earth, that he may judge his people: ⁵ "Gather my faithful ones together to me, those who have made a covenant with me by sacrifice."

⁸ The LORD will fulfill that which concerns me; your loving kindness, LORD, endures forever. Do not forsake the works of your own hands.

¹⁷ then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air. So we will be with the Lord forever.

¹⁹ Therefore let them also who suffer according to the will of God in doing good entrust their souls to him, as to a faithful Creator.

²⁸ Now, little children, remain in him, that when he appears, we may have boldness, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

⁶ that you inquire after my iniquity, and search after my sin?

¹⁴ if I sin, then you mark me. You will not acquit me from my iniquity.

⁴ Doesn't he see my ways, and number all my steps?

¹¹ He puts my feet in the stocks. He marks all my paths.'

²¹ "For his eyes are on the ways of a man. He sees all his goings.

⁶ They conspire and lurk, watching my steps, they are eager to take my life.

¹ [For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David.] LORD, you have searched me, and you know me. ² You know my sitting down and my rising up. You perceive my thoughts from afar. ³ You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. ⁴ For there is not a word on my tongue, but, look, LORD, you know it altogether.

²¹ For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD. He examines all his paths.

¹⁹ great in counsel, and mighty in work; whose eyes are open on all the ways of human beings, to give to each person according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

³⁴ "Isn't this laid up in store with me, sealed up among my treasures?

¹⁹ You say, 'God lays up his iniquity for his children.' Let him recompense it to himself, that he may know it.

¹² The guilt of Ephraim is stored up. His sin is stored up.

⁴ You who tear yourself in your anger, shall the earth be forsaken for you? Or shall the rock be removed out of its place?

²⁵ In the beginning, LORD, you established the foundation of the earth. The heavens are the works of your hands. ²⁶ They will perish, but you remain; and they will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a cloak, and they will be changed.

¹² Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and marked off the sky with his span, and calculated the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?

¹⁵ Look, I have made you into a new sharp threshing instrument with teeth. You will thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and will make the hills like chaff. ¹⁶ You will winnow them, and the wind will carry them away, and the whirlwind will scatter them. You will rejoice in the LORD. You will glory in the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁰ For the mountains may depart, and the hills be removed; but my loving kindness shall not depart from you, neither shall my covenant of peace be removed," says the LORD who has mercy on you.

¹ Oh that you would tear the heavens, that you would come down, that the mountains might quake at your presence,

²⁴ I saw the mountains, and look, they trembled, and all the hills moved back and forth.

⁵¹ And look, the veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom. The earth quaked and the rocks were split.

¹⁴ The sky was removed like a scroll when it is rolled up. Every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

⁸ The second angel sounded, and something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea. One third of the sea became blood,

¹⁷ And as for me, look, I am bringing a flood of waters on the earth, to destroy all flesh having the breath of life from under the sky. Everything that is on the earth will die.

²¹ And all flesh died that moved on the earth, flying creatures, and tame animals, and wild animals, and every creature that crawls on the earth, and all humankind. ²² All in whose nostrils breathed the breath of life, of all that was on the dry land, died. ²³ Every living thing was destroyed that was on the surface of the ground, including people, animals, crawling creatures, and flying creatures of the sky. They were destroyed from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those who were with him in the vessel.

⁸ For what is the hope of the godless, when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?

⁶ As for me, I said in my prosperity, "I shall never be moved." ⁷ You, LORD, when you favored me, made my mountain stand strong; but when you hid your face, I was troubled.

¹¹ Then he said to me, "Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: look, they say, 'Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are completely cut off.'

¹⁹ I will tell my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take your ease, eat, drink, be merry."' ²⁰ "But God said to him, 'You foolish one, tonight your soul is required of you. The things which you have prepared—whose will they be?'

¹² When they lifted up their eyes from a distance, and did not recognize him, they raised their voices, and wept; and they each tore his robe, and threw dust in the air over their heads.

⁸ There is no man who has power over the spirit to contain the spirit; neither does he have power over the day of death. There is no discharge in war; neither shall wickedness deliver those who practice it.

⁸ They appear darker than soot; they are not known in the streets. Their skin cleaves to their bones; it is withered and has become as dry as a stick.

²⁰ About the time of her death the women who stood by her said to her, "Do not be afraid; for you have given birth to a son." But she did not answer, neither did she regard it.

⁶ "Surely a person goes about like a shadow. Surely he heaps up vain things of wealth, and doesn't know who shall gather them.

¹⁸ I hated all my labor in which I labored under the sun, seeing that I must leave it to the man who comes after me. ¹⁹ Who knows whether he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet he will have rule over all of my labor in which I have labored, and in which I have shown myself wise under the sun. This also is vanity.

⁵ For the living know that they will die, but the dead do not know anything, neither do they have any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

⁷ 'They will take away your descendants who will issue from you, whom you shall father, and they will be eunuchs in the king of Babylon's palace.'" ⁸ Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "The LORD's word which you have spoken is good." He said moreover, "For there will be peace and truth in my days."

¹⁶ For you are our Father, though Abraham doesn't know us, and Israel does not acknowledge us: you, LORD, are our Father; our Redeemer from everlasting is your name.

²⁰ My bones stick to my skin and to my flesh. I have escaped by the skin of my teeth.

²² Why do you persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?

¹⁹ He is chastened also with pain on his bed, with continual strife in his bones; ²⁰ So that his life abhors bread, and his soul choicest food. ²¹ His flesh is so consumed away, that it can't be seen. His bones that were not seen stick out.

²³ In hell, he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far off, and Lazarus at his bosom. ²⁴ He called out and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue. For I am in anguish in this flame.'
