² "Can a man be profitable to God? Surely he who is wise is profitable to himself.

¹³ to keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command you this day for your good?

¹⁵ What is Shaddai, that we should serve him? What profit should we have, if we pray to him?'

⁶ If you have sinned, what effect do you have against him? If your transgressions are multiplied, what do you do to him? ⁷ If you are righteous, what do you give him? Or what does he receive from your hand? ⁸ Your wickedness may hurt a man as you are, and your righteousness may profit a son of man.

² I said to the LORD, "You are my Lord. Apart from you I have no good thing."

¹³ Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gets understanding. ¹⁴ For her good profit is better than getting silver, and her return is better than fine gold. ¹⁵ She is more precious than rubies. None of the things you can desire are to be compared to her. ¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand. In her left hand are riches and honor. ¹⁷ Her ways are ways of pleasantness. All her paths are peace. ¹⁸ She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her, and those who hold on to her are blessed

⁷ Wisdom is supreme. Get wisdom. Yes, though it costs all your possessions, get understanding. ⁸ Esteem her, and she will exalt you. She will bring you to honor, when you embrace her. ⁹ She will give to your head a garland of grace. She will deliver a crown of splendor to you."

¹² If you are wise, you are wise for yourself. If you mock, you alone will bear it.

¹¹ Wisdom is as good as an inheritance. Yes, it is more excellent for those who see the sun. ¹² For wisdom is a defense, even as money is a defense; but the excellency of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it.

²⁹ And if your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you.[note: Hyperbole, or Semitic idiom, meaning to stop doing a sin] For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.

¹⁰ Even so you also, when you have done all the things that are commanded you, say, 'We are unworthy servants. We have done our duty.'"

⁷ Do not be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a person sows, that he will also reap. ⁸ For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. But he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap everlasting life.
