²⁹ When they cast down, you shall say, 'be lifted up.' And he will save the humble.

¹⁹ He will deliver you in six troubles; yes, in seven there shall no evil touch you. ²⁰ In famine he will redeem you from death; in war, from the power of the sword. ²¹ You shall be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, neither shall you be afraid of destruction when it comes. ²² At destruction and famine you shall laugh, neither shall you be afraid of the animals of the earth. ²³ For you shall be in league with the stones of the field. The animals of the field shall be at peace with you. ²⁴ You shall know that your tent is in peace. You shall visit your fold, and shall miss nothing. ²⁵ You shall know also that your descendants shall be great, and your offspring as the grass of the earth. ²⁶ You shall come to your grave in a full age, like a shock of grain comes in its season. ²⁷ Look this, we have searched it, so it is. Hear it, and know it for your good."

² I will be glad and rejoice in you. I will sing praise to your name, O Most High. ³ When my enemies turn back, they stumble and perish in your presence.

¹⁴ "Because he has set his love on me, therefore I will deliver him. I will set him on high, because he has known my name. ¹⁵ He will call on me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him, and honor him. ¹⁶ I will satisfy him with long life, and show him my salvation."

⁹ For, look, your enemies, LORD, for, look, your enemies shall perish. All the evildoers will be scattered. ¹⁰ But you have exalted my horn like that of the wild ox. I am anointed with fresh oil. ¹¹ My eye has also seen my enemies. My ears have heard of the wicked enemies who rise up against me.

⁶ For though the LORD is high, yet he looks after the lowly; but the proud, he knows from afar.

²³ A man's pride brings him low, but one of lowly spirit gains honor.

¹⁵ For thus says the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: "I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also who is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.

² For all these things has my hand made, and so all these things came to be," says the LORD: "but to this man will I look, to him who is humble and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at my word.

²⁶ thus says the Lord GOD: "Remove the turban, and take off the crown; this shall be no more the same; exalt that which is low, and abase that which is high." ²⁷ I will overturn, overturn, overturn it: this also shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him.'

¹² Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

⁵² He has put down princes from their thrones. And has exalted the lowly.

¹¹ For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted."

⁹ He spoke also this parable to certain people who were convinced of their own righteousness, and who despised all others. ¹⁰ "Two men went up into the temple to pray; one was a Pharisee, and the other was a tax collector. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed to himself like this: 'God, I thank you, that I am not like other people, extortioners, unrighteous, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. ¹² I fast twice a week. I give tithes of all that I get.' ¹³ But the tax collector, standing far away, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, a sinner.' ¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted."

⁶ But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

⁵ Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you clothe yourselves with humility, towards one another; for God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.
