¹ Then Job answered, ² "How have you helped him who is without power. How have you saved the arm that has no strength. ³ How have you counseled him who has no wisdom, and plentifully declared sound knowledge. ⁴ To whom have you uttered words? Whose spirit came forth from you? ⁵ "Those who are deceased tremble, those beneath the waters and all that live in them. ⁶ Sheol is naked before him, and Abaddon has no covering. ⁷ He stretches out the north over empty space, and hangs the earth on nothing. ⁸ He binds up the waters in his thick clouds, and the cloud is not burst under them. ⁹ He encloses the face of his throne, and spreads his cloud on it. ¹⁰ He has described a boundary on the surface of the waters, and to the confines of light and darkness. ¹¹ The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his rebuke. ¹² He stirs up the sea with his power, and by his understanding he strikes through Rahab. ¹³ By his Spirit the heavens are garnished. His hand has pierced the swift serpent. ¹⁴ Look, these are but the outskirts of his ways. How small a whisper do we hear of him. But the thunder of his power who can understand?"

²⁷ And it came about, at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, "Cry aloud, for he is a god. Maybe he is thinking about it, or he is busy, or he is on a trip, or perhaps he is sleeping and must be awakened."

³ Look, you have instructed many, you have strengthened the weak hands. ⁴ Your words have supported him who was falling, You have made firm the feeble knees.

¹² Is my strength the strength of stones? Or is my flesh of bronze?

²⁵ How forcible are words of uprightness. But your reproof, what does it reprove?

² "No doubt, but you are the people, and wisdom shall die with you.

⁴ I also could speak as you do. If your soul were in my soul's place, I could join words together against you, and shake my head at you, ⁵ but I would strengthen you with my mouth. The solace of my lips would relieve you.

⁹ Do not reject me in my old age. Do not forsake me when my strength fails.

³ Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. ⁴ Tell those who have a fearful heart, "Be strong. Do not be afraid. Look, your God will come with vengeance, God's retribution. He will come and save you.

¹⁴ From whom did he take counsel with, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed him the way of understanding? Or who has first given to him, and it will be repaid to him again?

⁵ The coastlands have seen, and fear. The farthest parts of the earth tremble. They approach, and come. ⁶ Everyone helps his neighbor. They say to their brothers, "Be strong." ⁷ So the carpenter encourages the goldsmith. He who smoothes with the hammer encourages him who strikes the anvil, saying of the soldering, "It is good;" and he fastens it with nails, that it might not totter.

¹³ Isn't it that I have no help in me, That wisdom is driven quite from me?

³ But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you. Yes, who doesn't know such things as these?

⁵ Oh that you would be completely silent. Then you would be wise.

⁸ Have you heard the secret counsel of God? Do you limit wisdom to yourself? ⁹ What do you know, that we do not know? What do you understand, which is not in us? ¹⁰ With us are both the gray-headed and the very aged men, much elder than your father.

¹⁰ But as for you all, come on now again; I shall not find a wise man among you.

¹¹ "Look, I waited for your words, and I listened for your reasoning, while you searched out what to say. ¹² Yes, I gave you my full attention, but there was no one who convinced Job, or who answered his words, among you. ¹³ Beware lest you say, 'We have found wisdom, God may refute him, not man;'

³ My words shall utter the uprightness of my heart. That which my lips know they shall speak sincerely.

³³ If not, listen to me. Hold your peace, and I will teach you wisdom."

² "Who is this who darkens counsel by words without knowledge?

¹ [For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by the sons of Korah.] Hear this, all you peoples. Listen, all you inhabitants of the world, ² both low and high, rich and poor together. ³ My mouth will speak words of wisdom. My heart shall utter understanding. ⁴ I will incline my ear to a proverb. I will open my riddle on the harp.

¹⁵ My mouth will tell about your righteousness, and of your salvation all day, though I do not know its full measure. ¹⁶ I will come with the mighty acts of the Lord GOD. I will make mention of your righteousness, even of yours alone. ¹⁷ God, you have taught me from my youth. Until now, I have declared your wondrous works. ¹⁸ Yes, even when I am old and gray-haired, God, do not forsake me, until I have declared your strength to the next generation, your might to everyone who is to come.

⁶ Hear, for I will speak excellent things. The opening of my lips is for right things. ⁷ For my mouth speaks truth. Wickedness is an abomination to my lips. ⁸ All the words of my mouth are in righteousness. There is nothing crooked or perverse in them. ⁹ They are all plain to him who understands, right to those who find knowledge.

²⁰ how I did not hold back from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and teaching you publicly and from house to house,

²⁷ for I did not hold back from declaring to you the whole plan of God.

²³ Now therefore, look, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets; and the LORD has pronounced disaster against you." ²⁴ Then Zedekiah the son of Kenaanah came near, and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, "Which way did the Spirit of the LORD go from me to speak to you?"

³ I have heard the reproof which puts me to shame. The spirit of my understanding answers me.

¹⁸ For I am full of words. The spirit within me constrains me.

⁷ and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

³ Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by God's Spirit says, "Jesus is accursed." No one can say, "Jesus is Lord," but by the Holy Spirit.

¹ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. ² By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit who confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, ³ and every spirit who does not confess Jesus is not of God; and this is that of the antichrist, of whom you have heard that it comes. Now it is in the world already.

¹³ I saw coming out of the mouth of the serpent, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits, something like frogs; ¹⁴ for they are spirits of demons, performing signs; which go forth to the kings of the whole inhabited earth, to gather them together for the war of the great day of the God of hosts.

⁴ The Nephilim were on the earth in those days (and also after that), when the sons of God had sexual relations with the daughters of humankind and had children by them. They were the mighty men who were from ancient times, famous men.

¹ "Can you draw out Deinosuchus with a fishhook, or press down his tongue with a cord? ² Can you put a rope into his nose, or pierce his jaw through with a hook? ³ Will he make many petitions to you, or will he speak soft words to you? ⁴ Will he make a covenant with you, that you should take him for a servant forever? ⁵ Will you play with him as with a bird? Or will you bind him for your girls? ⁶ Will traders barter for him? Will they part him among the merchants? ⁷ Can you fill his skin with barbed irons, or his head with fish spears? ⁸ If you lay a hand on him, you will remember the battle, and you will never do it again. ⁹ Look, the hope of him is in vain. Won't one be cast down even at the sight of him? ¹⁰ None is so fierce that he dare stir him up. Who then is he who can stand before me? ¹¹ Who has confronted me, that I should repay? Everything under the heavens is mine. ¹² "I will not keep silence concerning his limbs, nor his mighty strength, nor his goodly frame. ¹³ Who can strip off his outer garment? Who shall come within his jaws? ¹⁴ Who can open the doors of his face? Around his teeth is terror. ¹⁵ Strong scales are his pride, shut up together with a close seal. ¹⁶ One is so near to another, that no air can come between them. ¹⁷ They are joined one to another. They stick together, so that they can't be pulled apart. ¹⁸ His sneezing flashes out light. His eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. ¹⁹ Out of his mouth go burning torches. Sparks of fire leap forth. ²⁰ Out of his nostrils a smoke goes, as of a boiling pot over a fire of reeds. ²¹ His breath kindles coals. A flame goes forth from his mouth. ²² There is strength in his neck. Terror dances before him. ²³ The flakes of his flesh are joined together. They are firm on him. They can't be moved. ²⁴ His heart is as firm as a stone, yes, firm as the lower millstone. ²⁵ When he raises himself up, the mighty are afraid. They retreat before his thrashing. ²⁶ If one attacks him with the sword, it can't prevail; nor the spear, the dart, nor the pointed shaft. ²⁷ He counts iron as straw; and bronze as rotten wood. ²⁸ The arrow can't make him flee. Sling stones are like chaff to him. ²⁹ Clubs are counted as stubble. He laughs at the rushing of the javelin. ³⁰ His undersides are like sharp potsherds, leaving a trail in the mud like a threshing sledge. ³¹ He makes the deep to boil like a pot. He makes the sea like a pot of ointment. ³² He makes a path shine after him. One would think the deep had white hair. ³³ On earth there is not his equal, that is made without fear. ³⁴ He sees everything that is high. He is king over all the sons of pride."

¹⁰ Do you show wonders to the dead? Do the dead rise up and praise you? Selah.

²⁵ There is the sea, great and wide, in which are innumerable living things, both small and large animals. ²⁶ There the ships go, and leviathan, whom you formed to play there.

³ Speak and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "Look, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great monster that lies in the midst of his rivers, that has said, 'My river is my own, and I have made it for myself.' ⁴ I will put hooks in your jaws, and I will make the fish of your rivers stick to your scales; and I will bring you up out of the midst of your rivers, with all the fish of your rivers which stick to your scales. ⁵ I'll cast you forth into the wilderness, you and all the fish of your rivers. You'll fall on the open field. You won't be brought together, nor gathered. I have given you for food to the animals of the earth and to the birds of the sky.

⁸ They are high as heaven. What can you do? They are deeper than Sheol. What can you know?

²² Destruction and Death say, 'We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.'

¹¹ Who has confronted me, that I should repay? Everything under the heavens is mine.

⁸ If I ascend up into heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in Sheol, look, you are there.

¹¹ If I say, "Surely the darkness will overwhelm me; the light around me will be night;"

¹¹ Sheol and Abaddon are before the LORD—how much more then the hearts of human beings.

⁹ Sheol from beneath has moved for you to meet you at your coming. It stirs up the dead for you, even all the rulers of the earth. It has raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.

² Though they dig into Sheol, there my hand will take them; and though they climb up to heaven, there I will bring them down.

¹³ There is no creature that is hidden from his sight, but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

¹ In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. ² Now the earth was formless and empty, and darkness was on the surface of the watery depths. And God's Spirit was hovering over the surface of the waters.

⁸ He alone stretches out the heavens, and treads on the waves of the sea.

² For he has founded it on the seas, and established it on the floods.

² He covers himself with light as with a garment. He stretches out the heavens like a curtain. ³ He lays the beams of his chambers in the waters. He makes the clouds his chariot. He walks on the wings of the wind. ⁴ He makes his angels winds, and his servants flames of fire. ⁵ He laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be moved forever and ever.

²³ I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, before the earth existed. ²⁴ When there were no depths, I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water. ²⁵ Before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was brought forth; ²⁶ while as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the beginning of the dust of the world. ²⁷ When he established the heavens, I was there; when he set a circle on the surface of the deep,

²² It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in;

²⁶ Lift up your eyes on high, and see who has created these, who brings out their host by number. He calls them all by name; by the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power, not one is lacking.

⁵ Thus says God, the LORD, he who created the heavens and stretched them out, he who spread out the earth and that which comes out of it, he who gives breath to its people and spirit to those who walk in it.

⁶ And God said, "Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters." And it was so. ⁷ And God made the expanse, and separated the waters which were under the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse.

²⁹ Yes, can any understand the spreading of the clouds, and the thunderings of his pavilion?

¹¹ Yes, he loads the thick cloud with moisture. He spreads abroad the cloud of his lightning. ¹² It is turned around by his guidance, that they may do whatever he commands them on the surface of the habitable world, ¹³ Whether it is for correction, or for his land, or for loving kindness, that he causes it to come. ¹⁴ "Listen to this, Job. Stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God. ¹⁵ Do you know how God controls them, and causes the lightning of his cloud to shine? ¹⁶ Do you know the workings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him who is perfect in knowledge?

⁹ when I made clouds its garment, and wrapped it in thick darkness,

³⁷ Who can number the clouds by wisdom? Or who can pour out the bottles of the sky,

¹⁰ He rode on a cherub, and flew. Yes, he soared on the wings of the wind. ¹¹ He made darkness his hiding place, his canopy around him thick clouds dark with water.

⁷ who causes the clouds to rise from the farthest parts of the earth; who makes lightnings with the rain; who brings forth the wind out of his treasuries;

⁴ Who has ascended up into heaven, and descended? Who has gathered the wind in his fists? Who has bound the waters in his garment? Who has established every part of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son's name, if you know?

⁶ I will lay it a wasteland. It won't be pruned nor hoed, but it will grow briers and thorns. I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain on it."

¹³ when he utters his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and he causes the vapors to ascend from the farthest parts of the earth; he makes lightnings for the rain, and brings forth the wind out of his treasuries.

²¹ The people stayed at a distance, and Moses drew near to the thick darkness where God was.

²⁰ He said, "You cannot see my face, for man may not see me and live." ²¹ The LORD also said, "Look, there is a place by me, and you are to station yourself on the rock. ²² It will happen, while my glory passes by, that I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and will cover you with my hand until I have passed by; ²³ then I will take away my hand, and you will see my back; but my face shall not be seen."

³ No one shall come up with you; neither let anyone be seen throughout all the mountain; neither let the flocks nor herds feed before that mountain."

¹² Then Solomon said, "The LORD has said that he would dwell in the thick cloud.

¹⁴ Thick clouds are a covering to him, so that he doesn't see. He walks on the vault of the sky.'

² Clouds and darkness are around him. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

³ God came from Teman, the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and his praise filled the earth. ⁴ His splendor is like the sunrise. Rays shine from his hand, where his power is hidden. ⁵ Plague went before him, and pestilence followed his feet.

¹⁶ who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light; whom no human has seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and eternal power. Amen.

²² While the earth remains, seed time and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease."

⁸ "Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke forth from the womb, ⁹ when I made clouds its garment, and wrapped it in thick darkness, ¹⁰ marked out for it my bound, set bars and doors, ¹¹ and said, 'Here you may come, but no further. Here your proud waves shall be stayed?'

⁷ He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap. He lays up the deeps in storehouses.

⁶ You covered it with the deep as with a cloak. The waters stood above the mountains. ⁷ At your rebuke they fled. At the voice of your thunder they hurried away. ⁸ The mountains rose, the valleys sank down, to the place which you had assigned to them. ⁹ You have set a boundary that they may not pass over; that they do not turn again to cover the earth.

²⁹ when he gave to the sea its boundary, that the waters should not violate his commandment, when he marked out the foundations of the earth;

⁹ "For this is like the waters of Noah to me; for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah shall no more go over the earth, so have I sworn that I will not be angry with you, nor rebuke you. ¹⁰ For the mountains may depart, and the hills be removed; but my loving kindness shall not depart from you, neither shall my covenant of peace be removed," says the LORD who has mercy on you.

²² Do you not fear me?' says the LORD 'Won't you tremble at my presence, who have placed the sand for the bound of the sea, by a perpetual decree, that it can't pass it? And though its waves toss themselves, yet they can't prevail; though they roar, yet they can't pass over it.'

⁸ He raises up the poor out of the dust. He lifts up the needy from the dunghill, To make them sit with princes, and inherit the throne of glory. For the pillars of the earth are the LORD's. He has set the world on them.

¹⁵ Look, he puts no trust in his holy ones. Yes, the heavens are not clean in his sight;

⁷ Then the earth shook and trembled. The foundations also of the mountains quaked and were shaken, because he was angry.

²¹ "Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, 'I will shake the heavens and the earth.

²⁶ whose voice shook the earth then, but now he has promised, saying, "Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heavens." ²⁷ This phrase, "Yet once more," signifies the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that have been made, that those things which are not shaken may remain.

¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come as a thief; in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works on it will not be found.

¹¹ I saw a great white throne, and him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. There was found no place for them.

²¹ Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all the night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. ²² The children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand, and on their left. ²³ The Egyptians pursued, and went in after them into the midst of the sea: all of Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen. ²⁴ It happened in the morning watch, that the LORD looked out on the Egyptian army through the pillar of fire and of cloud, and confused the Egyptian army. ²⁵ He bound their chariot wheels, so that they drove them with difficulty. And the Egyptians said, "Let's flee from the face of Israel, for the LORD fights for them against the Egyptians." ²⁶ The LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come again on the Egyptians, on their chariots, and on their horsemen." ²⁷ Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it. The LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. ²⁸ The waters returned, and covered the chariots and the horsemen, even all Pharaoh's army that went in after them into the sea. There remained not so much as one of them. ²⁹ But the children of Israel walked on dry land in the midst of the sea, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand, and on their left. ³⁰ Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. ³¹ Israel saw the great work which the LORD did to the Egyptians, and the people feared the LORD; and they believed in God, and in his servant Moses.

¹³ "God will not withdraw his anger. The helpers of Rahab stoop under him.

¹³ "With him is wisdom and might. He has counsel and understanding.

¹¹ Pour out the fury of your anger. Look at everyone who is proud, and bring him low. ¹² Look at everyone who is proud, and humble him. Crush the wicked in their place.

¹⁰ The LORD sat enthroned at the Flood. Yes, the LORD sits as King forever.

¹³ You divided the sea by your strength. You broke the heads of the sea monsters in the waters.

⁹ You rule the pride of the sea. When its waves rise up, you calm them. ¹⁰ You have broken Rahab in pieces, like one of the slain. You have scattered your enemies with your mighty arm.

³ The floods have lifted up, LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice. The floods lift up their waves. ⁴ More majestic than the sounds of many waters, more majestic than the breakers of the sea, the LORD on high is majestic.

² Judah became his sanctuary, Israel his dominion. ³ The sea saw it, and fled. The Jordan was driven back. ⁴ The mountains skipped like rams, the little hills like lambs. ⁵ What was it, you sea, that you fled? You Jordan, that you turned back? ⁶ You mountains, that you skipped like rams; you little hills, like lambs? ⁷ Tremble, you earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,

¹² For there will be a day of the LORD of hosts for all that is proud and haughty, and for all that is lifted up and high; and it shall be brought low:

⁹ Awake, awake, put on strength, arm of the LORD; awake, as in the days of old, the generations of ancient times. Isn't it you who cut Rahab in pieces, who pierced the monster?

¹⁵ For I am the LORD your God, who stirs up the sea, so that its waves roar: the LORD of hosts is his name.

³⁵ Thus says the LORD, who gives the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, who stirs up the sea, so that its waves roar; the LORD of hosts is his name:

³⁷ Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven; for all his works are truth, and his ways justice; and those who walk in pride he is able to humble."

⁶ But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

² Now the earth was formless and empty, and darkness was on the surface of the watery depths. And God's Spirit was hovering over the surface of the waters.

⁶ By the word of the LORD the heavens were made; and all their host by the breath of his mouth. ⁷ He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap. He lays up the deeps in storehouses.

¹³ You divided the sea by your strength. You broke the heads of the sea monsters in the waters. ¹⁴ You broke the heads of Leviathan in pieces. You gave him as food to people and desert creatures.

³⁰ You send forth your Spirit: they are created. You renew the face of the ground.

¹ In that day, the LORD with his fierce and great and mighty sword will punish leviathan, the fleeing serpent, and leviathan the twisted serpent; and he will kill the serpent that is in the sea.

⁹ The great serpent was thrown down, the ancient serpent, he who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world. He was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

¹⁰ The LORD will shatter his adversaries. He will thunder against them in the sky. "The LORD will judge the farthest parts of the earth. He will give strength to his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed."

¹² "Now a thing was secretly brought to me. My ear received a whisper of it.

⁷ "Can you fathom the mystery of God? Or can you probe the limits of Shaddai? ⁸ They are high as heaven. What can you do? They are deeper than Sheol. What can you know? ⁹ Its measure is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.

⁹ Or do you have an arm like God? Can you thunder with a voice like him?

³ The voice of the LORD is on the waters. The God of glory thunders, even the LORD on many waters.

⁶ This knowledge is beyond me. It's lofty. I can't attain it.

³ Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised. His greatness is unsearchable.

²⁶ Lift up your eyes on high, and see who has created these, who brings out their host by number. He calls them all by name; by the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power, not one is lacking. ²⁷ Why do you say, Jacob, and why do you assert, Israel, "My way is hidden from the LORD, and the justice due me is disregarded by my God?" ²⁸ And now, haven't you known? Haven't you heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the farthest parts of the earth, doesn't faint. He isn't weary. His understanding is unsearchable. ²⁹ He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

³³ Oh the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God. How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past tracing out.

⁹ For we know in part, and we prophesy in part; ¹⁰ but when that which is complete has come, that which is partial will be done away with. ¹¹ When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child. Now that I have become an adult, I have put away childish things. ¹² For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, even as I was also fully known.
