¹ The beginning of the Good News of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. ² As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, "Look, I send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you. ³ The voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of the Lord. Make his roads straight.'" ⁴ John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for forgiveness of sins. ⁵ And all the country of Judea went out to him and all those from Jerusalem, and they were baptized by him in the Jordan river, confessing their sins. ⁶ And John was clothed with camel's hair and a leather belt around his waist. Repent, and believe in the Good News." ¹⁶ And passing along by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. ¹⁷ Jesus said to them, "Come, follow me, and I will make you into fishers of people." ¹⁸ And immediately they left the nets, and followed him. ¹⁹ And going on a little further, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John, his brother, who were also in the boat mending the nets. ²⁰ And immediately he called them, and they left their father, Zebedee, in the boat with the hired servants, and went after him. ²¹ And they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath day he entered into the synagogue and taught. ²² And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes. ²³ And just then there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, and he shouted, ²⁴ saying, "What do we have to do with you, Jesus, Nazarene? Have you come to destroy us? I know you who you are: the Holy One of God." ²⁵ And Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him." ²⁶ And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him. ²⁷ And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, "What is this? A new teaching? For with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him." ²⁸ And at once the news of him went out everywhere into all the region of Galilee and its surrounding area. ²⁹ And Immediately, when they had come out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. ³⁰ Now Simon's mother-in-law was sick in bed with a fever, and immediately they told him about her. ³¹ And he came and took her by the hand, and raised her up. The fever left her, and she served them. ³² At evening, when the sun had set, they brought to him all who were sick, and those who were possessed by demons. ³³ And all the city was gathered together at the door. ³⁴ And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. He did not allow the demons to speak, because they knew him. ³⁵ And early in the morning, while it was still dark, he rose up and went out, and departed into a deserted place, and prayed there. ³⁶ And Simon and those who were with him followed after him; ³⁷ and they found him, and told him, "Everyone is looking for you." ³⁸ And he said to them, "Let us go somewhere else into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because I came out for this reason." ³⁹ And he went into their synagogues throughout all Galilee, preaching and casting out demons. ⁴⁰ And a leper came to him, begging him, and knelt down and said to him, "If you want to, you can make me clean." ⁴¹ And being moved with compassion, he stretched out his hand, and touched him, and said to him, "I am willing. Be cleansed." ⁴² And immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was made clean. ⁴³ And he strictly warned him, and immediately sent him out, ⁴⁴ and said to him, "See you say nothing to anyone, but go show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing the things which Moses commanded, for a testimony to them." ⁴⁵ But he went out, and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread about the matter, so that Jesus could no more openly enter into a city, but was outside in desert places: and they came to him from everywhere.

⁷ I will tell of the decree. The LORD said to me, "You are my son. Today I have become your father.

¹⁷ And look, a voice out of the heavens said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."

³ And the tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread."

³³ Those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, "You are truly the Son of God."

⁵ While he was still speaking, look, a bright cloud overshadowed them. And look, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him."

² even as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word delivered them to us, ³ it seemed good to me also, having traced the course of all things accurately from the first, to write to you in order, most excellent Theophilus;

³⁵ The angel answered her, "The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore also the holy one who is born will be called the Son of God.

¹⁰ The angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for see, I bring you good news of great joy which will be to all the people. ¹¹ For there is born to you, this day, in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ, the Lord.

¹⁴ And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we saw his glory, such glory as of the one and only of the Father, full of grace and truth.

³⁴ And I have seen and have testified that this is the Chosen One of God."

⁴⁹ Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God. You are King of Israel."

¹⁶ For God loved the world in this way: He gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him would not perish, but have everlasting life.

⁶⁹ We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God."

³¹ but these are written, that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name.

¹ The first account I wrote, Theophilus, concerned all that Jesus began both to do and to teach, ² until the day in which he was received up, after he had given commandment through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.

¹ Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the Good News of God, ² which he promised before through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, ³ concerning his Son, who was born of the offspring of David according to the flesh, ⁴ who was declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,

³ For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God did, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh;

³² He who did not spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how would he not also with him freely give us all things?

¹ God, having in the past spoken to the fathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, ² in these last days has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the ages.

¹ That which was from the beginning, that which we have heard, that which we have seen with our eyes, that which we saw, and our hands touched, concerning the Word of life ² (and the life was revealed, and we have seen, and testify, and declare to you the life, the eternal life, which was with the Father, and was revealed to us); ³ that which we have seen and heard we declare to you also, that you also may have fellowship with us. Yes, and our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son, Jesus Christ.

¹¹ The testimony is this, that God gave to us everlasting life, and this life is in his Son. ¹² He who has the Son has the life. He who does not have God's Son does not have the life.

⁷ Then I said, "Look, I have come. It is written about me in the scroll of a book;

¹ "Look, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me; and the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, look, he comes." says the LORD of hosts.

⁵ And they said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written through the prophet,

¹ And in those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea ² and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near." ³ For this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, "The voice of one who calls out in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of the Lord. Make his roads straight.'" ⁴ Now John himself wore clothing made of camel's hair and with a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey. ⁵ Then people from Jerusalem, all of Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him, ⁶ and they were baptized by him in the Jordan river, confessing their sins. ⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism he said to them, "You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? ⁸ Therefore bring forth fruit worthy of repentance, ⁹ and do not think to yourselves, 'We have Abraham for our father,' for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. ¹⁰ "Even now the axe lies at the root of the trees. Therefore, every tree that does not bring forth good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire. ¹¹ I indeed baptize you in water for repentance, but the one who comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and with fire.

¹⁰ This is the one of whom it is written, 'Look, I send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.'

²⁴ The Son of Man goes, even as it is written of him, but woe to that man through whom the Son of Man is betrayed. It would be better for that man if he had not been born."

³¹ Then Jesus said to them, "All of you will be made to stumble because of me tonight, for it is written, 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.'

¹⁵ For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and he will drink no wine nor strong drink. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb. ¹⁶ He will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord, their God. ¹⁷ He will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, 'to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,' and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

⁷⁰ (as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets who have been from of old),

⁷⁶ And you, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to make ready his ways,

² in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John, the son of Zechariah, in the wilderness. ³ He came into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for forgiveness of sins. ⁴ As it is written in the scroll of the words of Isaiah the prophet, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of the Lord. Make his roads straight. ⁵ Every valley will be filled, and every mountain and hill will be made low, and the crooked will be made straight, and the rough ways smooth. ⁶ And all humanity will see the salvation of God.'" ⁷ He said therefore to the crowds who went out to be baptized by him, "You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? ⁸ Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say among yourselves, 'We have Abraham for our father;' for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. ⁹ Even now the axe also lies at the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bring forth good fruit is cut down, and thrown into the fire." ¹⁰ The crowds asked him, "What then must we do?" ¹¹ He answered them, "He who has two coats, let him give to him who has none. He who has food, let him do likewise." ¹² Tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they said to him, "Teacher, what must we do?" ¹³ He said to them, "Collect no more than that which is appointed to you." ¹⁴ Soldiers also asked him, saying, "What about us? What must we do?" He said to them, "Extort from no one by violence, neither accuse anyone wrongfully. Be content with your wages." ¹⁵ As the people were in expectation, and all were wondering in their hearts concerning John, whether perhaps he was the Christ, ¹⁶ John answered them all, "I indeed baptize you with water, but he comes who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to loosen. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire,

²⁷ This is he of whom it is written, 'Look, I send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.' ²⁸ "I tell you, among those who are born of women there is none greater than John, yet he who is least in the Kingdom of God is greater than he."

³¹ He took the twelve aside, and said to them, "Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all the things that are written through the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be completed.

³ The voice of one who calls out in the wilderness, "Prepare the way of the LORD. Make his roads straight. ⁴ Every valley will be filled, and every mountain and hill will be made low, and the uneven will be made level, and the rough places a plain. ⁵ And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all humanity will see the salvation of God together; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken."

³ For this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, "The voice of one who calls out in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of the Lord. Make his roads straight.'" ⁴ As it is written in the scroll of the words of Isaiah the prophet, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of the Lord. Make his roads straight. ⁵ Every valley will be filled, and every mountain and hill will be made low, and the crooked will be made straight, and the rough ways smooth. ⁶ And all humanity will see the salvation of God.'"

¹⁵ John testified about him and shouted out, saying, "This was the one of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me, for he was before me.'"

¹⁹ And this is John's testimony, when the Jewish leaders sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?" ²⁰ And he confessed, and did not deny, but he confessed, "I am not the Christ." ²¹ And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" And he said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" And he answered, "No." ²² They said therefore to him, "Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?" ²³ He said, "I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way of the Lord,' as Isaiah the prophet said." ²⁴ (Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.) ²⁵ And they asked him, "Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?" ²⁶ John answered them, saying, "I baptize in water, but among you stands one whom you do not know. ²⁷ He is the one who comes after me, whose sandal strap I'm not worthy to loosen." ²⁸ These things were done in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing. ²⁹ The next day, he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. ³⁰ This is he of whom I said, 'After me comes a man who ranks ahead of me, because he existed before me.' ³¹ I did not know him, but for this reason I came baptizing in water: that he would be revealed to Israel." ³² And John testified, saying, "I saw the Spirit descending like a dove out of heaven, and it remained on him. ³³ And I did not recognize him, but he who sent me to baptize in water, he said to me, 'On whomever you will see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, this is he who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.' ³⁴ And I have seen and have testified that this is the Chosen One of God."

²⁸ You yourselves bear me witness that I said, 'I am not the Christ,' but, 'I have been sent before him.' ²⁹ He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. So this joy of mine is now complete. ³⁰ He must increase, but I must decrease. ³¹ He who comes from above is above all. He who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all. ³² What he has seen and heard, of that he testifies; and no one receives his witness. ³³ He who has received his witness has set his seal to this, that God is true. ³⁴ For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for he does not give the Spirit by measure. ³⁵ The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand. ³⁶ Whoever believes in the Son has everlasting life, but whoever refuses to believe in the Son won't see life, but the wrath of God remains on him."

¹ And in those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea ² and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."

¹¹ I indeed baptize you in water for repentance, but the one who comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and with fire.

⁷⁷ to give knowledge of salvation to his people by the forgiveness of their sins,

² in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John, the son of Zechariah, in the wilderness. ³ He came into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for forgiveness of sins.

²³ Now John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there. They came, and were baptized.

³⁷ that spoken word you yourselves know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

²⁴ before his coming, when John had first preached the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. ²⁵ As John was fulfilling his course, he said, 'What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. But look, one comes after me the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.'

³ He said, "Into what then were you baptized?" They said, "Into John's baptism." ⁴ Paul said, "John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, in Jesus."

¹⁶ Now why do you wait? Arise, be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on his name.'

⁴⁰ "'If they confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, in their trespass which they trespassed against me, and also that, because they walked contrary to me, ⁴¹ I also walked contrary to them, and brought them into the land of their enemies: if then their uncircumcised heart is humbled, and they then accept the punishment of their iniquity; ⁴² then I will remember my covenant with Jacob; and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham; and I will remember the land.

¹⁹ Joshua said to Achan, "My son, please give glory to the LORD, the God of Israel, and make confession to him. Tell me now what you have done. Do not hide it from me."

⁵ I acknowledged my sin to you. I did not hide my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD," and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

¹³ He who conceals his sins doesn't prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

⁵ Then people from Jerusalem, all of Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him, ⁶ and they were baptized by him in the Jordan river, confessing their sins.

²⁵ And large crowds from Galilee, and Decapolis, and Jerusalem, and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan followed him.

²⁸ These things were done in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

³⁸ Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

¹⁸ Many also of those who had believed came, confessing, and declaring their deeds.

⁸ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

²² Even of these you may eat: any kind of locust, any kind of katydid, any kind of cricket, and any kind of grasshopper.

⁸ They answered him, "He was a hairy man, and wearing a leather belt around his waist." He said, "It is Elijah the Tishbite."

⁴ It will happen in that day, that the prophets will each be ashamed of his vision, when he prophesies; neither will they wear a hairy mantle to deceive:

⁴ Now John himself wore clothing made of camel's hair and with a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey.

¹⁴ But John would have hindered him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and you come to me?"

¹⁶ John answered them all, "I indeed baptize you with water, but he comes who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to loosen. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire,

⁶ Jesus went with them. When he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends, saying to him, "Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy for you to come under my roof. ⁷ Therefore I did not even think myself worthy to come to you; but say the word, and my servant will be healed.

²⁷ He is the one who comes after me, whose sandal strap I'm not worthy to loosen."

²⁸ You yourselves bear me witness that I said, 'I am not the Christ,' but, 'I have been sent before him.' ²⁹ He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. ²³ Turn at my reproof. Look, I will pour out my spirit on you. I will make known my words to you.

¹⁵ Until the Spirit is poured on us from on high, and the wilderness becomes a fruitful field, and the fruitful field is considered a forest.

³ For I will pour water upon the thirsty, and streams on the dry ground. I will pour my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants:

²⁵ I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. ²⁶ And I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. And I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. ²⁷ I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you shall keep my ordinances, and do them.

²⁸ "And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions.

⁵ For John indeed baptized in water, but you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days from now."

⁴ They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them the ability to speak.

¹⁷ 'And it will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.

⁴⁵ They of the circumcision who believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was also poured out on the non-Jewish people.

¹⁵ As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, even as on us at the beginning. ¹⁶ I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, 'John indeed baptized in water, but you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit.'

⁴ Paul said, "John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, in Jesus." ⁵ When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. ⁶ When Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke with other tongues and prophesied.

¹³ For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free; and were all given to drink of one Spirit.

⁵ not by works of righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy, he saved us, through the washing of rebirth and renewing by the Holy Spirit, ⁶ whom he poured out on us richly, through Jesus Christ our Savior;

¹ Oh that you would tear the heavens, that you would come down, that the mountains might quake at your presence,

²⁰ For the Father loves the Son, and shows him all things that he himself does. He will show him greater works than these, so that you may marvel. ²¹ For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom he desires. ²² For the Father judges no one, but he has given all judgment to the Son, ²³ that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

³⁷ The Father himself, who sent me, has testified about me. You have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form.

²⁸ Father, glorify your name." Then there came a voice out of the sky, saying, "I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again." ²⁹ The crowd therefore, who stood by and heard it, said that it had thundered. Others said, "An angel has spoken to him." ³⁰ Jesus answered, "This voice hasn't come for my sake, but for your sakes.

⁴ who was declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,

¹³ who delivered us out of the power of darkness, and transferred us into the Kingdom of the Son of his love;

¹⁷ For he received from God the Father honor and glory, when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." ¹⁸ We heard this voice come out of heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.

¹ Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. ² And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry afterward. ³ And the tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread." ⁴ But he answered and said, "It is written, 'Humankind cannot live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.'" ⁵ Then the devil took him into the holy city. He set him on the pinnacle of the temple, ⁶ and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, 'He will put his angels in charge of you.' and, 'In their hands they will lift you up, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'" ⁷ Jesus said to him, "Again, it is written, 'Do not test the Lord your God.'" ⁸ Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory. ⁹ And he said to him, "I will give you all of these things, if you will fall down and worship me." ¹⁰ Then Jesus said to him, "Go away, Satan. For it is written, 'You are to worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'" ¹¹ Then the devil left him, and look, angels came and served him.

¹ Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness ² for forty days, being tempted by the devil. He ate nothing in those days. When they were completed, he was hungry. ³ The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread." ⁴ Jesus answered him, saying, "It is written, 'Humankind cannot live by bread alone.'" ⁵ And leading him up to a high mountain, the devil showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. ⁶ The devil said to him, "I will give you all this authority, and their glory, for it has been delivered to me; and I give it to whomever I want. ⁷ If you therefore will worship before me, it will all be yours." ⁸ Jesus answered and said to him, "It is written, 'You are to worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'" ⁹ He led him to Jerusalem, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down from here, ¹⁰ for it is written, 'He will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you;' ¹¹ and, 'On their hands they will bear you up, lest perhaps you dash your foot against a stone.'" ¹² And Jesus, answering, said to him, "It is said, 'Do not test the Lord, your God.'" ¹³ When the devil had completed every temptation, he departed from him until another time.

¹⁸ Moses entered into the midst of the cloud, and went up on the mountain; and Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

²⁸ He was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread, nor drank water. He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

¹¹ It came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the LORD gave me the two tablets of stone, even the tablets of the covenant.

¹⁸ I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water; because of all your sin which you sinned, in doing that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

²⁵ So I fell down before the LORD the forty days and forty nights that I fell down, because the LORD had said he would destroy you.

⁵ He lay down and slept under a broom tree. And look, an angel touched him, and said to him, "Arise and eat." ⁶ He looked, and look, there was at his head a cake baked on the coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank, and lay down again. ⁷ The angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, "Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you." ⁸ And he got up and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb the Mount of God.

⁵³ Or do you think that I could not ask my Father, and he would even now send me more than twelve legions of angels?

¹⁶ Without controversy, the mystery of godliness is great: He was revealed in the flesh, justified by the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, and received up in glory.

¹⁷ Therefore he was obligated in all things to be made like his brothers, that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make atonement for the sins of the people. ¹⁸ For in that he himself has suffered being tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.

¹⁵ For we do not have a high priest who cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but one who has been in all points tempted like we are, yet without sin.

¹ The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and an opening of the eyes to the blind; ² to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; ³ to appoint to those who mourn in Zion, to give to them a garland for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified.

¹² Now when he heard that John was delivered up, he withdrew into Galilee.

²³ And Jesus went about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the Good News of the Kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.

³⁵ And Jesus went about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the Good News of the Kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness.

² Now when John heard in the prison the works of the Christ, he sent [a message] by his disciples

² and said to his servants, "This is John the Baptist. He is risen from the dead. That is why these powers work in him."

²⁰ added this also to them all, that he shut up John in prison.

¹⁷ The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him, and unrolling the scroll, he found the place where it was written, ¹⁸ "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed, ¹⁹ and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord."

⁴³ But he said to them, "I must proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God to the other cities also. For this reason I have been sent." ⁴⁴ And he was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.

¹ It happened soon afterwards, that he went about through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the Kingdom of God. With him were the twelve,

²² After these things, Jesus came with his disciples into the land of Judea. He stayed there with them, and baptized. ²³ Now John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there. They came, and were baptized. ²⁴ For John was not yet thrown into prison.

²⁵ "And now, look, I know that you all, among whom I went about proclaiming the Kingdom, will see my face no more.

²³ When they had appointed him a day, many people came to him at his lodging. He explained to them, testifying about the Kingdom of God, and persuading them concerning Jesus, both from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets, from morning until evening.

¹⁷ He came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.

⁴⁴ In the days of those kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed, nor shall its sovereignty be left to another people; but it shall break in pieces and consume all those kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.

²⁵ Know therefore and understand that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem until the time of the Messiah, the Prince, there shall be seven weeks, and sixty-two weeks. It shall be built again, with open spaces and a moat, but in times of distress.

² and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."

¹⁷ From that time, Jesus began to proclaim, and to say, "Repent. For the kingdom of heaven is near."

⁷ And as you go, proclaim, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is near.'

³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you that the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering into the Kingdom of God before you. ³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. When you saw it, you did not even repent afterward, that you might believe him.

⁹ Heal the sick who are in it, and tell them, 'The Kingdom of God has come near to you.'

¹¹ 'Even the dust from your city that clings to our feet, we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the Kingdom of God is near.'

⁴⁷ and that repentance leading to forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

³⁶ "Let all the house of Israel therefore know certainly that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified." ³⁷ Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brothers, what should we do?" ³⁸ Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

²¹ testifying both to Jews and to Greeks repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus.

²⁶ but now is revealed, and by the Scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the eternal God, is made known for obedience of faith to all the nations;

⁴ But when the fullness of the time came, God sent out his Son, born to a woman, born under the law,

¹⁰ to an administration of the fullness of the times, to sum up all things in Christ, the things in the heavens, and the things on the earth, in him;

²⁵ in gentleness correcting those who oppose him: perhaps God may give them repentance leading to a full knowledge of the truth, ²⁶ and they may recover themselves out of the devil's snare, having been taken captive by him to his will.

¹⁸ And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers: Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew, his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. ¹⁹ And he said to them, "Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of people." ²⁰ And they immediately left their nets and followed him. ²¹ Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. ²² And they immediately left the boat and their father, and followed him.

² Now the names of the twelve apostles are these. The first, Simon, who is called Peter; and Andrew his brother; and James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

¹⁶ And passing along by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. ¹⁷ Jesus said to them, "Come, follow me, and I will make you into fishers of people." ¹⁸ And immediately they left the nets, and followed him. ¹⁹ And going on a little further, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John, his brother, who were also in the boat mending the nets. ²⁰ And immediately he called them, and they left their father, Zebedee, in the boat with the hired servants, and went after him.

¹⁶ And he appointed the twelve. And to Simon he gave the name Peter;

¹⁸ and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot;

¹ Now it happened, while the crowd pressed on him and heard the word of God, that he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret. ² He saw two boats standing by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them, and were washing their nets. ³ He entered into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little from the land. He sat down and taught the crowds from the boat. ⁴ When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into the deep, and let down your nets for a catch." ⁵ Simon answered him, "Master, we worked all night, and took nothing; but at your word I will let down the nets." ⁶ When they had done this, they caught a great multitude of fish, and their net was breaking. ⁷ They beckoned to their partners in the other boat, that they should come and help them. They came, and filled both boats, so that they began to sink. ⁸ But Simon Peter, when he saw it, fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, Lord." ⁹ For he was amazed, and all who were with him, at the catch of fish which they had caught; ¹⁰ and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid. From now on you will be catching people." ¹¹ When they had brought their boats to land, they left everything, and followed him.

¹⁴ Simon, whom he also named Peter, and Andrew his brother; and James and John; and Philip and Bartholomew;

⁴⁰ One of the two who heard John, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. ⁴¹ He first found his own brother, Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah." (which is translated, Christ). ⁴² He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him, and said, "You are Simon the son of John. You will be called Cephas" (which is translated, Peter).

⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him,

²² Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn, Andrew came with Philip, and they told Jesus.

¹³ When they had come in, they went up into the upper room, where they were staying; that is Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.

¹⁰ It shall happen, that fishermen shall stand by it: from En Gedi even to En Eglaim shall be a place for the spreading of nets; their fish shall be after their kinds, as the fish of the Great Sea, exceeding many.

¹⁹ And he said to them, "Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of people." ²⁰ And they immediately left their nets and followed him.

¹⁰ and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid. From now on you will be catching people."

³⁸ Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. ³⁹ For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all who are far off, even as many as the Lord our God will call to himself." ⁴⁰ With many other words he testified, and exhorted them, saying, "Save yourselves from this crooked generation." ⁴¹ Then those who received his word were baptized. There were added that day about three thousand souls.

²⁷ Then Peter answered, "Look, we have left everything, and followed you. What then will we have?" ²⁸ Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you that you who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on the throne of his glory, you also will sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. ²⁹ Everyone who has left houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, will receive one hundred times, and will inherit everlasting life. ³⁰ But many will be last who are first; and first who are last.

²⁸ Peter began to tell him, "Look, we have left everything, and have followed you." ²⁹ Jesus said, "Truly I tell you, there is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or mother, or father, or children, or land, for my sake, and for the sake of the Good News, ³⁰ but he will receive one hundred times more now in this time, houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and land, with persecutions; and in the age to come, everlasting life. ³¹ But many who are first will be last; and the last first."

¹¹ When they had brought their boats to land, they left everything, and followed him.

³³ So therefore whoever of you who does not renounce all that he has, he cannot be my disciple.

²⁸ And Peter said, "Look, we have left our own things and followed you." ²⁹ He said to them, "Truly I tell you, there is no one who has left house, or wife, or brothers, or parents, or children, for the Kingdom of God's sake, ³⁰ who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the world to come, everlasting life."

⁸ More than that, I count all things to be a loss compared to the far greater value of knowing Christ Jesus, my Lord, for whom I suffered the loss of all things, and count them nothing but refuse, that I may gain Christ

²¹ Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them.

¹⁷ and James the son of Zebedee; and John the brother of James (and he gave them the names Boanerges, which is to say, Sons of Thunder);

³⁷ And he allowed no one to follow him, except Peter, James, and John the brother of James.

² After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John, and brought them up onto a high mountain privately by themselves, and he was changed into another form in front of them.

³⁵ James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came near to him, and said to him, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we will ask."

³³ He took with him Peter, James, and John, and began to be greatly troubled and distressed.

² He killed James, the brother of John, with the sword.

⁹ who said of his father, and of his mother, 'I have not seen him;' Neither did he acknowledge his brothers, Nor did he know his own children: For they have observed your word, and keep your covenant.

²⁰ He left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, "Let me please kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you." He said to him, "Go back again; for what have I done to you?"

²¹ And another of the disciples said to him, "Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father." ²² But Jesus said to him, "Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead."

³⁷ Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

²⁹ Jesus said, "Truly I tell you, there is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or mother, or father, or children, or land, for my sake, and for the sake of the Good News,

²⁶ "If anyone comes to me, and does not hate his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

¹⁶ Therefore we know no one after the flesh from now on. Even though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now we no longer know him in this way.

¹³ And leaving Nazareth, he came and lived in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,

³⁹ And he went into their synagogues throughout all Galilee, preaching and casting out demons.

¹ And when he entered again into Capernaum after some days, it was heard that he was in the house.

² And when the Sabbath had come, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many hearing him were astonished, saying, "Where did this man get these things?" and, "What is the wisdom that is given to this man, that such mighty works come about by his hands?

¹ He arose from there and came into the borders of Judea and beyond the Jordan. Crowds came together to him again. As he usually did, he was again teaching them.

¹⁶ He came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. He entered, as was his custom, into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.

³¹ He came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. He was teaching them on the Sabbath day, ³² and they were astonished at his teaching, for his word was with authority. ³³ In the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean demon, and he shouted with a loud voice, ³⁴ saying, "Ah. What have we to do with you, Jesus, Nazarene? Have you come to destroy us? I know you who you are — the Holy One of God." ³⁵ Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent, and come out of him." When the demon had thrown him down in their midst, he came out of him, having done him no harm. ³⁶ Amazement came on all, and they spoke together, one with another, saying, "What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out." ³⁷ News about him went out into every place of the surrounding region.

¹⁵ And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will be brought down to hell.

¹⁰ He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath day.

¹⁴ But they, passing on from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia. They went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and sat down. ¹⁵ After the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, "Brothers, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, speak." ¹⁶ Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, "Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen. ¹⁷ The God of this people Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they stayed as foreigners in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm, he led them out of it. ¹⁸ For a period of about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness. ¹⁹ When he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land as an inheritance. ²⁰ All this took about four hundred and fifty years. And after these things he gave them judges, until Samuel the prophet. ²¹ Afterward they asked for a king, and God gave to them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. ²² When he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, to whom he also testified, 'I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who will do all my will.' ²³ From this man's offspring, according to his promise, God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus, ²⁴ before his coming, when John had first preached the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. ²⁵ As John was fulfilling his course, he said, 'What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. But look, one comes after me the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.' ²⁶ Brothers, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, the word of this salvation is sent out to us. ²⁷ For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they did not know him, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him. ²⁸ Though they found no cause for death, they still asked Pilate to have him killed. ²⁹ When they had fulfilled all things that were written about him, they took him down from the tree, and placed him in a tomb. ³⁰ But God raised him from the dead, ³¹ and he was seen for many days by those who came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses to the people. ³² We bring you good news of the promise made to the fathers, ³³ that God has fulfilled for us, their children, in that he raised up Jesus. As it is also written in the second psalm, 'You are my Son. Today I have become your Father.' ³⁴ "Concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he has spoken thus: 'I will give to you the faithful sacred things of David.' ³⁵ Therefore he says also in another psalm, 'You will not allow your Holy One to see decay.' ³⁶ For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, and was placed with his fathers, and saw decay. ³⁷ But he whom God raised up saw no decay. ³⁸ Be it known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man is proclaimed to you forgiveness of sins, ³⁹ and by him everyone who believes is justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the Law of Moses. ⁴⁰ So beware, lest what is said in the Prophets should come about: ⁴¹ 'Look, you scoffers, and be amazed, and perish; for I am working a work in your days, a work which you will not believe, if one tells it to you.'" ⁴² So when they went out they urged them to speak about these things on the next Sabbath. ⁴³ Now when the synagogue broke up, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas; who, speaking to them, urged them to continue in the grace of God. ⁴⁴ The next Sabbath almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of the Lord. ⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and reviled him. ⁴⁶ Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, and said, "It was necessary that God's word should be spoken to you first. Since indeed you thrust it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, look, we turn to the non-Jewish people. ⁴⁷ For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, 'I have set you as a light to the nations, that you may bring salvation to the farthest part of the earth.'" ⁴⁸ As the non-Jewish people heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord. As many as were appointed to everlasting life believed. ⁴⁹ The Lord's word was spread abroad throughout all the region. ⁵⁰ But the Jews stirred up the devout women of prominence and the chief men of the city, and stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and threw them out of their borders. ⁵¹ But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came to Iconium. ⁵² The disciples were filled with joy with the Holy Spirit.

² Paul, as was his custom, went in to them, and for three Sabbath days reasoned with them from the Scriptures,

⁴ He reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded Jews and Greeks.

²⁹ 'Isn't my word like fire?' says the LORD; 'and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?

²⁸ And it happened, when Jesus had finished saying these things, that the crowds were astonished at his teaching, ²⁹ for he taught them with authority, and not like their scribes.

⁵⁴ And coming into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, "Where did this man get this wisdom, and these mighty works?

¹⁶ "Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, 'Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.' ¹⁷ You blind fools. For which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctified the gold? ¹⁸ 'Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obligated?' ¹⁹ You blind people. For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift? ²⁰ He therefore who swears by the altar, swears by it, and by everything on it. ²¹ He who swears by the temple, swears by it, and by him who dwells in it. ²² He who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God, and by him who sits on it. ²³ "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites. For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the Law: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone. ²⁴ You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel.

³ (For the Pharisees, and all Jewish people, do not eat unless they wash their hands and forearms, holding to the Tradition of the Elders. ⁴ They do not eat when they come from the marketplace unless they wash. And there are many other things which they have received and hold to, the washing of cups and pitchers and copper vessels and dining couches.) ⁵ The Pharisees and the scribes asked him, "Why do your disciples not walk according to the Tradition of the Elders, but eat their bread with unwashed hands?" ⁶ He said to them, "Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, 'This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. ⁷ And in vain do they worship me, teaching instructions that are the commandments of humans.' ⁸ "For you set aside the commandment of God, and hold tightly to human tradition." ⁹ He said to them, "Full well do you reject the commandment of God, that you may establish your tradition. ¹⁰ For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother;' and, 'Anyone who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.' ¹¹ But you say, 'If anyone tells his father or mother, "Whatever profit you might have received from me is Corban, that is to say, given to God;"' ¹² then you no longer allow him to do anything for his father or his mother, ¹³ making void the word of God by your tradition, which you have handed down. You do many things like this."

³² and they were astonished at his teaching, for his word was with authority.

¹⁵ for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to withstand or to contradict.

⁴⁶ The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this man."

¹⁰ They weren't able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke.

²¹ All who heard him were amazed, and said, "Is not this he who in Jerusalem made havoc of those who called on this name? And he had come here intending to bring them bound before the chief priests." ²² But Saul increased more in strength, and confounded the Jews who lived at Damascus, proving that this is the Christ.

² But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by the manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

¹² For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart. ¹³ There is no creature that is hidden from his sight, but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

⁴³ But the unclean spirit, when he is gone out of the person, passes through waterless places, seeking rest, and does not find it.

³⁴ And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. He did not allow the demons to speak, because they knew him.

² And when he had come out of the boat, immediately a man with an unclean spirit met him out of the tombs.

²⁵ But immediately a woman whose young daughter had an unclean spirit heard of him and came and fell at his feet.

²⁵ When Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to him, "You deaf and mute spirit, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again."

¹² Isn't this the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, 'Leave us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians?' For it were better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness."

¹⁰ For you will not abandon my soul in Sheol, neither will you allow your Holy One to see decay.

¹⁸ For our shield belongs to the LORD; our king to the Holy One of Israel. ¹⁹ Then you spoke in a vision to your faithful ones, and said, "I have bestowed strength on the warrior. I have exalted a young man from the people.

²⁴ Seventy weeks are decreed on your people and on your holy city, to put an end to the transgression, and to make an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy place.

²⁹ And look, they shouted, saying, "What do we have to do with you, Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?"

⁷ and crying out with a loud voice, he said, "What have I to do with you, Jesus, you Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, do not torment me."

³⁴ saying, "Ah. What have we to do with you, Jesus, Nazarene? Have you come to destroy us? I know you who you are — the Holy One of God."

²⁸ When he saw Jesus, he shouted, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, "What do I have to do with you, Jesus, you Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me."

³⁷ All the people of the surrounding region of the Geresenes asked him to leave them, for they were very much afraid; and he entered into the boat and returned.

¹⁹ He said to them, "What things?" They said to him, "The things concerning Jesus, the Nazarene, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people;

²⁷ because you will not abandon my soul in Sheol, neither will you allow your Holy One to see decay.

¹⁴ But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a man who was a murderer to be granted to you,

²⁷ "For truly, in this city against your holy servant, Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the non-Jews and the people of Israel, were gathered together

⁵ For we have found this man to be a plague, an instigator of insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

¹⁹ You believe that God is one. You do well. The demons also believe, and shudder.

⁷ "To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: "These are the words of the Holy One, the True One, he who has the key of David, he who opens and no one can shut, and who shuts and no one opens:

¹⁶ But to the wicked God says, "What right do you have to declare my statutes, that you have taken my covenant on your lips,

¹¹ And the unclean spirits, whenever they saw him, fell down before him, and shouted, saying, "You are the Son of God." ¹² And he sternly warned them that they should not make him known.

³⁵ Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent, and come out of him." When the demon had thrown him down in their midst, he came out of him, having done him no harm.

⁴¹ Demons also came out from many, crying out, and saying, "You are the Son of God." But he rebuked them and did not allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.

¹⁷ She followed Paul and us, shouting, "These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation."

²⁰ They brought him to him, and when he saw him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground, wallowing and foaming at the mouth.

²⁶ Having screamed, and convulsed greatly, it came out of him. The boy became like one dead; so much that most of them said, "He is dead."

³⁹ And look, a spirit seizes him, and all at once he cries out, and it convulses him so that he foams, and it hardly departs from him, bruising him severely.

⁴² While he was still coming, the demon threw him down and convulsed him violently. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father.

²² But when someone stronger attacks him and overcomes him, he takes from him his whole armor in which he trusted, and divides up his plunder.

³³ And when the demon was cast out, the mute man spoke. And the crowds were amazed, saying, "Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel."

²² Then one possessed by a demon, blind and mute, was brought to him and he healed him, so that the mute man spoke and saw. ²³ And all the crowds were amazed, and said, "Can this be the son of David?"

³¹ So the crowd was amazed when they saw the mute speaking, crippled healthy, lame walking, and blind seeing—and they glorified the God of Israel.

³⁷ They were astonished beyond measure, saying, "He has done all things well. He makes even the deaf hear, and the mute speak."

²⁴ The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, "Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God.

³² They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus was going in front of them, and they were amazed; and those who followed were afraid. He again took the twelve, and began to tell them the things that were going to happen to him.

³⁶ Amazement came on all, and they spoke together, one with another, saying, "What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out."

¹ He called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases.

¹⁷ The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name." ¹⁸ He said to them, "I saw Satan having fallen like lightning from heaven. ¹⁹ Look, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will in any way hurt you. ²⁰ Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven."

⁴ He shall stand, and shall shepherd in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God: and they will live, for then he will be great to the farthest parts of the earth.

²⁴ And the report about him went out into all Syria, and they brought to him all who were sick, afflicted with various diseases and torments, possessed with demons, and epileptics, and paralytics; and he healed them.

³¹ But they went out and spread abroad his fame in all that land.

⁴⁵ But he went out, and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread about the matter, so that Jesus could no more openly enter into a city, but was outside in desert places: and they came to him from everywhere.

¹⁷ The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him, and unrolling the scroll, he found the place where it was written,

³⁷ News about him went out into every place of the surrounding region.

¹⁴ And when Jesus came into Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever. ¹⁵ So he touched her hand, and the fever left her. She got up and served him.

²¹ And they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath day he entered into the synagogue and taught.

²³ And just then there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, and he shouted,

³⁸ He rose up from the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. Now Simon's mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they appealed to him about her. ³⁹ He stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her. Immediately she rose up and served them.

⁵⁸ And Jesus said to him, "The foxes have holes, and the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."

²³ and pleaded with him repeatedly, saying, "My little daughter is at the point of death. Please come and lay your hands on her, that she may be made healthy, and live."

³ The sisters therefore sent to him, saying, "Lord, look, the one you love is sick."

⁵ Have we no right to take along a wife who is a believer, even as the rest of the apostles, and the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas?

¹⁴ Is anyone among you sick? He should call for the elders of the church, and they should pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. ¹⁵ And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

¹ [By David.] Praise the LORD, my soul, and all that is within me, praise his holy name. ² Praise the LORD, my soul, and do not forget all his benefits; ³ who forgives all your sins; who heals all your diseases;

¹² What will I give to the LORD for all his benefits toward me?

⁵⁵ Many women were there watching from afar, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, serving him.

⁴¹ And taking the child by the hand, he said to her, "Talitha koum," which translated means, "Little girl, I tell you, get up."

⁴¹ who, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and served him; and many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem.

² and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary who was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out; ³ and Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod's steward; Susanna; and many others; who provided for them from their possessions.

⁴¹ He gave her his hand, and raised her up. Calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive.

¹⁶ And when evening came, they brought to him many possessed with demons. He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick;

² And They watched him, whether he would heal him on the Sabbath day, that they might accuse him.

⁴⁰ When the sun was setting, all those who had any sick with various diseases brought them to him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.

⁵ And all the country of Judea went out to him and all those from Jerusalem, and they were baptized by him in the Jordan river, confessing their sins.

⁴⁴ The next Sabbath almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of the Lord.

²⁵ And Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him."

¹² And he sternly warned them that they should not make him known.

¹⁶ It happened, as we were going to prayer, that a certain girl having a spirit of Python met us, who brought her masters much gain by fortune telling. ¹⁷ She followed Paul and us, shouting, "These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation." ¹⁸ She was doing this for many days. But Paul, becoming greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her." And it came out at once.

³ LORD, in the morning you shall hear my voice. In the morning I will lay my requests before you, and watch.

⁴ In return for my love, they are my adversaries; but I am in prayer.

²³ And after he had sent the crowds away, he went up into the mountain by himself to pray. When evening had come, he was there alone.

⁴⁶ After he had taken leave of them, he went up the mountain to pray. ⁴⁷ When evening had come, the boat was in the midst of the sea, and he was alone on the land. ⁴⁸ He saw them distressed in rowing, for the wind was against them. In the watch between three and six in the morning he came to them, walking on the sea, and he would have passed by them,

⁴² When it was day, he departed and went into an uninhabited place, and the crowds looked for him, and came to him, and held on to him, so that he would not go away from them. ⁴³ But he said to them, "I must proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God to the other cities also. For this reason I have been sent."

¹⁶ But he withdrew himself into the desert, and prayed.

¹² It happened in these days, that he went out to the mountain to pray, and he continued all night in prayer to God.

³⁹ He came out, and went, as his custom was, to the Mount of Olives. His disciples also followed him. ⁴⁰ When he was at the place, he said to them, "Pray that you do not enter into temptation." ⁴¹ He was withdrawn from them about a stone's throw, and he knelt down and prayed, ⁴² saying, "Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done." ⁴³ And an angel from heaven appeared to him, strengthening him. ⁴⁴ Being in agony he prayed more earnestly. His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down on the ground. ⁴⁵ When he rose up from his prayer, he came to the disciples, and found them sleeping because of grief, ⁴⁶ and said to them, "Why do you sleep? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation."

³⁴ Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to accomplish his work.

¹⁵ Jesus therefore, perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force, to make him king, withdrew again to the mountain by himself.

¹⁸ with all prayer and requests, praying at all times in the Spirit, and being watchful to this end in all perseverance and requests for all the saints:

⁵ Have this in your mind, which was also in Christ Jesus,

⁷ In the days of his flesh, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.

¹¹ It was broken in that day; and thus the poor of the flock that listened to me knew that it was the word of the LORD.

²⁶ And they came to John, and said to him, "Rabbi, he who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified, look, he is baptizing, and everyone is coming to him."

⁴⁸ If we leave him alone like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation."

¹⁹ The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, "See how you accomplish nothing. Look, the whole world has gone after him."

⁴⁹ He said to them, "Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be doing the works of my Father?"

¹⁸ "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed, ¹⁹ and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord." ²⁰ He closed the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on him. ²¹ He began to tell them, "Today, this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."

⁴³ But he said to them, "I must proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God to the other cities also. For this reason I have been sent."

⁴ We must work the works of him who sent me, while it is day. The night is coming, when no one can work.

²⁸ I came forth from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world, and go to the Father."

⁴ I glorified you on the earth by accomplishing the work which you have given me to do.

⁸ for the words which you have given me I have given to them, and they received them, and knew for sure that I came forth from you, and they have believed that you sent me.

³⁰ And when she went away to her house, she found the child lying on the bed, the demon having left.

¹⁴ Is anything too difficult for God? At the set time I will return to you, at the time of life, and Sarah will have a son."

¹ The LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, ² "When a man shall have a rising in his body's skin, or a scab, or a bright spot, and it becomes in the skin of his body the plague of leprosy, then he shall be brought to Aaron the priest, or to one of his sons, the priests: ³ and the priest shall examine the plague in the skin of the body: and if the hair in the plague has turned white, and the appearance of the plague is deeper than the body's skin, it is the plague of leprosy; and the priest shall examine him, and pronounce him unclean. ⁴ If the bright spot is white in the skin of his body, and its appearance isn't deeper than the skin, and its hair hasn't turned white, then the priest shall isolate the infected person for seven days. ⁵ The priest shall examine him on the seventh day, and, look, if in his eyes the plague is arrested, and the plague hasn't spread in the skin, then the priest shall isolate him for seven more days. ⁶ The priest shall examine him again on the seventh day; and look, if the plague has faded, and the plague hasn't spread in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him clean. It is a scab. He shall wash his clothes, and be clean. ⁷ But if the scab spreads on the skin, after he has shown himself to the priest for his cleansing, he shall show himself to the priest again. ⁸ The priest shall examine him; and look, if the scab has spread on the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean. It is leprosy. ⁹ "When the plague of leprosy is in a man, then he shall be brought to the priest; ¹⁰ and the priest shall examine him. Look, if there is a white rising in the skin, and it has turned the hair white, and there is raw flesh in the rising, ¹¹ it is a chronic leprosy in the skin of his body, and the priest shall pronounce him unclean. He shall not isolate him, for he is unclean. ¹² "If the leprosy breaks out all over the skin, and the leprosy covers all the skin of the infected person from his head even to his feet, as far as it appears to the priest; ¹³ then the priest shall examine him; and, look, if the leprosy has covered all his flesh, he shall pronounce him clean of the plague. It has all turned white: he is clean. ¹⁴ But whenever raw flesh appears in him, he shall be unclean.

¹⁰ The cloud departed from over the Tent; and look, Miriam was leprous, as white as snow. Aaron looked at Miriam, and look, she was leprous. ¹¹ Aaron said to Moses, "Oh, my lord, please do not count this sin against us, in which we have done foolishly, and in which we have sinned. ¹² Let her not, I pray, be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he comes out of his mother's womb." ¹³ Moses cried to the LORD, saying, "Heal her, God, I beg you." ¹⁴ The LORD said to Moses, "If her father had but spit in her face, shouldn't she be ashamed seven days? Let her be shut up outside of the camp seven days, and after that she shall be brought in again." ¹⁵ Miriam was shut up outside of the camp seven days, and the people did not travel until Miriam was brought in again.

⁸ Be careful in a case of leprous disease, that you observe diligently, and do according to all that the priests the Levites shall teach you: as I commanded them, so you shall observe to do. ⁹ Remember what the LORD your God did to Miriam, by the way as you came forth out of Egypt.

²⁹ May it whirl over the head of Joab, and on all his father's house. Let there not fail from the house of Joab one who has an issue, or who is a leper, or who leans on a staff, or who falls by the sword, or who lacks bread."

⁵ The king of Aram said, "Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel." He departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of clothing. ⁶ He brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, "Now when this letter has come to you, look, I have sent Naaman my servant to you, that you may heal him of his leprosy." ⁷ It happened, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he tore his clothes, and said, "Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man sends to me to heal a man of his leprosy? But please consider and see how he seeks a quarrel against me." ⁸ It was so, when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, "Why have you torn your clothes? Let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel." ⁹ So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariots, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha. ¹⁰ Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, "Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall come again to you, and you shall be clean." ¹¹ But Naaman was angry, and went away, and said, "Look, I thought, 'He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and wave his hand over the place, and heal the leper.' ¹² Aren't Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Couldn't I go wash in them, and be clean?" So he turned and went away in a rage. ¹³ His servants came near, and spoke to him, and said, "My father, if the prophet had asked you to do some great thing, wouldn't you have done it? How much rather then, when he says to you, 'Wash, and be clean?'" ¹⁴ Then he went down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean. ¹⁵ He returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him; and he said, "See now, I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel. Now therefore, please take a gift from your servant." ¹⁶ But he said, "As the LORD lives, before whom I stand, I will receive none." He urged him to take it; but he refused. ¹⁷ Naaman said, "If not, then, please let two mules' burden of earth be given to your servant; for your servant will from now on offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice to other gods, but to the LORD. ¹⁸ In this thing may the LORD pardon your servant: when my master goes into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leans on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon. When I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, may the LORD pardon your servant in this thing." ¹⁹ He said to him, "Go in peace." So he departed from him a little way. ²⁰ But Gehazi the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, "Look, my master has spared this Naaman the Aramean, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought. As the LORD lives, I will run after him, and take something from him." ²¹ So Gehazi followed after Naaman. When Naaman saw one running after him, he came down from the chariot to meet him, and said, "Is all well?" ²² He said, "All is well. My master has sent me, saying, 'Look, even now two young men of the sons of the prophets have come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two changes of clothing.'" ²³ Naaman said, "Be pleased to take two talents." He urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of clothing, and laid them on two of his servants; and they carried them before him. ²⁴ When he came to the hill, he took them from their hand, and stored them in the house. Then he let the men go, and they departed. ²⁵ But he went in, and stood before his master. Elisha said to him, "Where did you come from, Gehazi?" He said, "Your servant went nowhere." ²⁶ He said to him, "Did not my heart go with you, when the man turned from his chariot to meet you? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and olive groves and vineyards, and sheep and cattle, and male servants and female servants? ²⁷ Therefore the leprosy of Naaman will cling to you and to your descendants forever." He went out from his presence a leper, as white as snow.

³ Now there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate. And they said to one another, "Why do we sit here until we die?

⁵ The LORD struck the king, so that he was a leper to the day of his death, and lived in a separate house. Jotham the king's son was over the household, judging the people of the land.

¹³ (for Solomon had made a bronze scaffold, eight feet and seven inches long, and eight feet and seven inches broad, and five feet and two inches high, and had set it in the midst of the court; and on it he stood, and kneeled down on his knees before all the assembly of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven;)

² And look, a leper came to him and worshiped him, saying, "Lord, if you want to, you can make me clean." ³ And he stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, "I am willing. Be cleansed." And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. ⁴ And Jesus said to him, "See that you tell nobody, but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them."

⁵ the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.

¹⁴ And when they came to the crowd, a man came to him, knelt before him,

²² And it has often cast him both into fire and into water, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us, and help us." ²³ Jesus said to him, "'If you can?' All things are possible to him who believes."

¹⁷ As he was going out into the way, one ran to him, knelt before him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do that I may inherit everlasting life?"

¹² It happened, while he was in one of the cities, look, there was a man full of leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell on his face, and begged him, saying, "Lord, if you want to, you can make me clean." ¹³ And he stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, "I am willing. Be cleansed." Immediately the leprosy left him. ¹⁴ And he commanded him, “Do not tell anyone, but go your way, and show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing according to what Moses commanded, for a testimony to them."

¹² As he entered into a certain village, ten men who were lepers met him, who stood at a distance. ¹³ They lifted up their voices, saying, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us." ¹⁴ When he saw them, he said to them, "Go and show yourselves to the priests." It happened that as they went, they were cleansed. ¹⁵ One of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice. ¹⁶ He fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks; and he was a Samaritan. ¹⁷ Jesus answered, "Weren't the ten cleansed? But where are the nine? ¹⁸ Were there none found who returned to give glory to God, except this stranger?" ¹⁹ Then he said to him, "Get up, and go your way. Your faith has healed you."

⁴¹ He was withdrawn from them about a stone's throw, and he knelt down and prayed,

⁶⁰ He kneeled down, and shouted out, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." When he had said this, he fell asleep.

¹⁴ For this cause, I bow my knees before the Father,

³ And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.

⁹ For he spoke, and it was done. He commanded, and it stood firm.

³⁶ But when he saw the crowds, he was moved with compassion for them, because they were harassed and scattered, like sheep without a shepherd.

³⁹ And he awoke, and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace. Be still." And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

³⁴ And he came out, saw a large crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd, and he began to teach them many things.

¹² And when he drew near to the gate of the city, then look, a man who was dead was carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large crowd from the city was with her. ¹³ When the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said to her, "Do not cry."

³ He is the radiance of his glory, the very image of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had made purification for sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

¹⁷ Therefore he was obligated in all things to be made like his brothers, that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make atonement for the sins of the people.

²⁸ Then Jesus answered her, "Woman, great is your faith. Be it done to you even as you desire." And her daughter was healed from that hour.

³¹ And he came and took her by the hand, and raised her up. The fever left her, and she served them.

²⁹ And immediately the flow of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction.

⁵⁰ Jesus said to him, "Go your way. Your son lives." The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way. ⁵¹ As he was now going down, his servants met him, saying that his son was alive. ⁵² So he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. They said therefore to him, "Yesterday at one in the afternoon, the fever left him." ⁵³ So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said to him, "Your son lives." He believed, as did his whole house.

³ You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.

³⁰ And their eyes were opened. And Jesus strictly commanded them, saying, "See that no one knows about this."

⁴³ And he strictly ordered them that no one should know this, and commanded that something should be given to her to eat.

³⁶ He commanded them that they should tell no one, but the more he commanded them, so much the more widely they proclaimed it.

⁵⁶ Her parents were amazed, but he commanded them to tell no one what had been done.

¹ The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ² "This shall be the law of the leper in the day of his cleansing. He shall be brought to the priest, ³ and the priest shall go forth out of the camp. The priest shall examine him, and look, if the plague of leprosy is healed in the leper, ⁴ then the priest shall command them to take for him who is to be cleansed two living clean birds, and cedar wood, and scarlet, and hyssop. ⁵ The priest shall command them to kill one of the birds in an earthen vessel over running water. ⁶ As for the living bird, he shall take it, and the cedar wood, and the scarlet, and the hyssop, and shall dip them and the living bird in the blood of the bird that was killed over the running water. ⁷ He shall sprinkle on him who is to be cleansed from the leprosy seven times, and shall pronounce him clean, and shall let the living bird go into the open field. ⁸ "He who is to be cleansed shall wash his clothes, and shave off all his hair, and bathe himself in water; and he shall be clean. After that he shall come into the camp, but shall dwell outside his tent seven days. ⁹ It shall be on the seventh day, that he shall shave all his hair off his head and his beard and his eyebrows, even all his hair he shall shave off. He shall wash his clothes, and he shall bathe his body in water, then he shall be clean. ¹⁰ "On the eighth day he shall take two male lambs without blemish, and one ewe lamb a year old without blemish, and three tenths of an ephah of fine flour for a meal offering, mingled with oil, and one log of oil. ¹¹ The priest who cleanses him shall set the man who is to be cleansed, and those things, before the LORD, at the door of the Tent of Meeting. ¹² "The priest shall take one of the male lambs, and offer him for a trespass offering, with the log of oil, and wave them for a wave offering before the LORD. ¹³ He shall kill the male lamb in the place where they kill the sin offering and the burnt offering, in the place of the sanctuary; for as the sin offering is the priest's, so is the trespass offering. It is most holy. ¹⁴ The priest shall take some of the blood of the trespass offering, and the priest shall put it on the tip of the right ear of him who is to be cleansed, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot. ¹⁵ The priest shall take some of the log of oil, and pour it into the palm of his own left hand. ¹⁶ The priest shall dip his right finger in the oil that is in his left hand, and shall sprinkle some of the oil with his finger seven times before the LORD. ¹⁷ The priest shall put some of the rest of the oil that is in his hand on the tip of the right ear of him who is to be cleansed, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot, upon the blood of the trespass offering. ¹⁸ The rest of the oil that is in the priest's hand he shall put on the head of him who is to be cleansed, and the priest shall make atonement for him before the LORD. ¹⁹ "The priest shall offer the sin offering, and make atonement for him who is to be cleansed because of his uncleanness: and afterward he shall kill the burnt offering; ²⁰ and the priest shall offer the burnt offering and the meal offering on the altar. The priest shall make atonement for him, and he shall be clean. ²¹ "If he is poor, and can't afford so much, then he shall take one male lamb for a trespass offering to be waved, to make atonement for him, and one tenth of an ephah of fine flour mingled with oil for a meal offering, and a log of oil; ²² and two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, such as he is able to afford; and the one shall be a sin offering, and the other a burnt offering. ²³ "On the eighth day he shall bring them for his cleansing to the priest, to the door of the Tent of Meeting, before the LORD. ²⁴ The priest shall take the lamb of the trespass offering, and the log of oil, and the priest shall wave them for a wave offering before the LORD. ²⁵ He shall kill the lamb of the trespass offering. The priest shall take some of the blood of the trespass offering and put it on the tip of the right ear of him who is to be cleansed, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot. ²⁶ The priest shall pour some of the oil into the palm of his own left hand; ²⁷ and the priest shall sprinkle with his right finger some of the oil that is in his left hand seven times before the LORD. ²⁸ Then the priest shall put some of the oil that is in his hand on the tip of the right ear of him who is to be cleansed, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot, on the place of the blood of the trespass offering. ²⁹ The rest of the oil that is in the priest's hand he shall put on the head of him who is to be cleansed, to make atonement for him before the LORD. ³⁰ He shall offer one of the turtledoves, or of the young pigeons, such as he is able to afford, ³¹ the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, with the meal offering. The priest shall make atonement for him who is to be cleansed before the LORD." ³² This is the law for him in whom is the plague of leprosy, who is not able to afford the sacrifice for his cleansing.

⁴ And Jesus said to him, "See that you tell nobody, but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them."

² saying, "Upon the seat of Moses the Pharisees and scribes sit. ³ All which they will say unto you, observe and do; but their works do not do, because they say, and do not do.

¹⁴ And he commanded him, “Do not tell anyone, but go your way, and show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing according to what Moses commanded, for a testimony to them."

¹⁴ When he saw them, he said to them, "Go and show yourselves to the priests." It happened that as they went, they were cleansed.

⁴ For whatever things were written before were written for our instruction, that through patience and through encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

¹¹ Now these things happened to them by way of example, and they were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have come.

¹¹ I will remember the works of the LORD; for I will remember your wonders of old.

¹⁵ So they took the money and did as they were told. This saying was spread abroad among the Jewish people, and continues until this day.

¹ And when he entered again into Capernaum after some days, it was heard that he was in the house. ² And many were gathered together, so that there was no more room, not even around the door; and he spoke the word to them.

¹³ And he went out again by the seaside. All the crowd came to him, and he taught them.

⁷ And Jesus withdrew to the sea with his disciples, and a large crowd followed from Galilee, and from Judea,

¹⁵ But the report concerning him spread much more, and large crowds came together to hear, and to be healed of their infirmities. ¹⁶ But he withdrew himself into the desert, and prayed. ¹⁷ It happened on one of those days, that he was teaching; and there were Pharisees and teachers of the Law sitting by, who had come out of every village of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. The power of the Lord was with him to heal.

² A large crowd followed him, because they saw the signs which he did on those who were sick.

¹⁰ For there are many rebellious people, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,
