⁵ And when he had looked around at them with anger, being grieved at the hardening of their hearts, he said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.

⁶ God was sorry that he had made humankind on the earth, and he was grieved in his heart.

¹⁶ They put away the foreign gods from among them, and served the LORD; and his soul was grieved with the misery of Israel.

⁶ The king answered the man of God, "Now plead for the favor of the LORD your God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored me again." The man of God entreated the LORD, and the king's hand was restored him again, and became as it was before.

⁸ It grieved me severely: therefore I cast forth all the household stuff of Tobiah out of the room.

¹⁰ For forty years I loathed that generation, and said, "It is a people who go astray in their heart, and they do not know my ways."

⁹ And he said, "Go, and tell this people, 'In hearing you hear, but do not understand; and seeing you see, but do not perceive.' ¹⁰ The heart of this people has grown dull, and their ears sluggish, and they have closed their eyes, otherwise they might see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and turn back, and I would heal them."

¹⁸ "Hear, you deaf, and look, you blind, that you may see. ¹⁹ Who is blind, but my servant? Or who is as deaf as my messenger whom I send? Who is as blind as he who is at peace, and as blind as the LORD's servant? ²⁰ You see many things, but do not observe. His ears are open, but he doesn't listen.

¹⁸ They do not know, neither do they consider: for he has shut their eyes, that they can't see; and their hearts, that they can't understand. ¹⁹ No one thinks, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, "I have burned part of it in the fire. Yes, I have also baked bread on its coals. I have roasted meat and eaten it. Shall I make the rest of it into an abomination? Shall I bow down to a tree trunk?" ²⁰ He feeds on ashes. A deceived heart has turned him aside; and he can't deliver his soul, nor say, "Isn't there a lie in my right hand?"

⁹ In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bore them, and carried them all the days of old. ¹⁰ But they rebelled, and grieved his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he himself fought against them.

¹³ Then he told the man, "Stretch out your hand." And he stretched it out, and it was restored whole, just like the other.

¹⁴ And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says, 'In hearing you will hear, but will not understand, and seeing you will see, but not perceive. ¹⁵ For the heart of this people has grown dull, and their ears are sluggish in hearing, and they have closed their eyes, otherwise they might see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and turn back, and I would heal them.'

¹⁰ He looked around at them all, and said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He did, and his hand was restored.

¹⁵ Therefore the Lord answered him, "You hypocrites. Does not each one of you free his ox or his donkey from the stall on the Sabbath, and lead him away to water?

¹⁴ When he saw them, he said to them, "Go and show yourselves to the priests." It happened that as they went, they were cleansed.

⁴⁰ He answered them, "I tell you that if these were silent, the stones would cry out." ⁴¹ When he drew near, he saw the city and wept over it, ⁴² saying, "If you, even you, had known today the things that make for peace. But now, they are hidden from your eyes. ⁴³ For the days will come on you, when your enemies will throw up a barricade against you, surround you, hem you in on every side, ⁴⁴ and will dash you and your children within you to the ground. They will not leave in you one stone on another, because you did not know the time of your visitation."

⁸ Jesus said to him, "Arise, take up your mat, and walk." ⁹ Immediately, the man was made well, and took up his mat and walked. Now it was the Sabbath on that day.

⁷ and said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which means "Sent"). So he went away, washed, and came back seeing.

⁷ What then? That which Israel seeks for, that he did not obtain, but the chosen ones obtained it, and the rest were hardened. ⁸ According as it is written, God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, to this very day. ⁹ David says, "Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumbling block, and a retribution to them. ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened, so that they can't see, and their backs be bent continually."

²⁵ For I do not desire you to be ignorant, brothers, of this mystery, so that you won't be wise in your own conceits, that a partial hardening has happened to Israel, until the fullness of the non-Jews has come in,

¹⁴ But their minds were hardened, for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remains, because in Christ it passes away.

¹⁸ being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their hearts;

²⁶ "Be angry, but do not sin." Do not let the sun go down on your anger,

³⁰ Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

¹⁰ Therefore I was displeased with this generation, and said, 'They always err in their heart, but they did not know my ways;'

¹⁷ With whom was he displeased forty years? Was not it with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?

⁹ Having been made perfect, he became to all of those who obey him the author of everlasting salvation,

¹⁶ They told the mountains and the rocks, "Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb,
