¹⁴ And when they came to the disciples, they saw a large crowd around them, and scribes questioning them.

¹⁴ And when they came to the crowd, a man came to him, knelt before him, ¹⁵ and said, "Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is epileptic, and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire, and often into the water. ¹⁶ So I brought him to your disciples, and they could not cure him." ¹⁷ Jesus answered, "Faithless and perverse generation. How long will I be with you? How long will I bear with you? Bring him here to me." ¹⁸ Jesus rebuked him, the demon went out of him, and the boy was cured from that hour. ¹⁹ Then the disciples came to Jesus privately, and said, "Why weren't we able to cast it out?" ²⁰ So he said to them, "Because of your little faith. For truly I tell you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you."

⁶ But there were some of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,

²⁸ and they began saying to him, "By what authority do you do these things? And who gave you this authority to do these things?"

¹⁴ When they had come, they asked him, "Teacher, we know that you are honest, and do not defer to anyone; for you are not partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?

³⁷ It happened on the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, that a large crowd met him. ³⁸ And look, a man from the crowd called out, saying, "Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for he is my only child. ³⁹ And look, a spirit seizes him, and all at once he cries out, and it convulses him so that he foams, and it hardly departs from him, bruising him severely. ⁴⁰ I begged your disciples to cast it out, and they could not." ⁴¹ Jesus answered, "Faithless and perverse generation, how long must I be with you and put up with you? Bring your son here." ⁴² While he was still coming, the demon threw him down and convulsed him violently. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father.

⁵³ And when he left there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to oppose him bitterly, and to provoke him to speak about many things; ⁵⁴ lying in wait for him, seeking to catch him in something he might say, that they might accuse him.

³ For consider him who has endured such hostility from sinners against himself, so that you may not become tired and give up.
