You shall inherit according to the tribes of your fathers. ⁵⁵ "But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then those you let remain of them will be as pricks in your eyes and as thorns in your sides, and they will harass you in the land in which you dwell. ⁵⁶ It shall happen that as I thought to do to them, so will I do to you."

³⁷ The children of Israel traveled from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot who were men, besides children.

⁵¹ It happened the same day, that the LORD brought the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their regiments.

¹⁸ but God led the people around by the way of the wilderness by the Sea at the End; and the children of Israel went up from the land of Egypt prepared for battle.

⁵ And I sent Moses and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did in its midst; and afterward I brought you out

⁸ "When Jacob went into Egypt, and the Egyptians oppressed them, and your fathers cried to the LORD, then the LORD sent Moses and Aaron, who brought your fathers out of Egypt, and made them to dwell in this place.

²⁰ You led your people like a flock, by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

⁴ For I brought you up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage. I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.

¹⁷ Whenever the cloud was taken up from over the Tent, then after that the children of Israel traveled; and in the place where the cloud remained, there the children of Israel camped. ¹⁸ At the commandment of the LORD, the children of Israel traveled, and at the commandment of the LORD they camped. As long as the cloud remained on the tabernacle they remained camped. ¹⁹ When the cloud stayed on the tabernacle many days, then the children of Israel kept the command of God, and did not travel. ²⁰ Sometimes the cloud was a few days on the tabernacle; then according to the commandment of the LORD they remained camped, and according to the commandment of the LORD they traveled. ²¹ Sometimes the cloud was from evening until morning; and when the cloud was taken up in the morning, they traveled: or by day and by night, when the cloud was taken up, they traveled. ²² Whether it was two days, or a month, or a year that the cloud stayed on the tabernacle, remaining on it, the children of Israel remained camped, and did not travel; but when it was taken up, they traveled. ²³ At the commandment of the LORD they camped, and at the commandment of the LORD they traveled. They kept the LORD's command, at the commandment of the LORD by Moses.

⁶ When you blow an alarm the second time, the camps that lie on the south side shall go forward. They shall blow an alarm for their journeys.

² It is eleven days' journey from Horeb by the way of Mount Seir to Kadesh Barnea.

¹¹ The LORD said to me, "Arise, take your journey before the people; and they shall go in and possess the land, which I swore to their fathers to give to them."

¹² For you shall not depart in haste, nor shall you leave in flight; for the LORD will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.

¹³ The breaker goes up before them. They break through the gate, and go out. And their king passes on before them, with the LORD at their head.

¹² For I will go through the land of Egypt in that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and animal. Against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the LORD.

²⁹ It happened at midnight, that the LORD struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of livestock. ³⁰ Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was not a house where there was not one dead.

¹¹ Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods because of the thing in which they dealt arrogantly against them."

³⁶ He struck also all the firstborn in their land, the first fruits of all their manhood.

¹ The burden of Egypt: "Look, the LORD rides on a swift cloud, and comes to Egypt. The idols of Egypt will tremble at his presence; and the heart of Egypt will melt in its midst.

¹¹ The LORD will be awesome to them, for he will famish all the gods of the land. Men will worship him, everyone from his place, even all the shores of the nations.

⁷ There was war in the sky. Michael and his angels made war on the serpent. The serpent and his angels made war. ⁸ They did not prevail, neither was a place found for them any more in heaven. ⁹ The great serpent was thrown down, the ancient serpent, he who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world. He was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

²⁰ They took their journey from Succoth, and camped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness.

² "Speak to the children of Israel, that they turn back and camp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, before Baal Zephon. You shall camp opposite it by the sea.

⁹ The Egyptians pursued after them: all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen, and his army; and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pi-hahiroth, before Baal Zephon.

²¹ Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all the night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. ²² The children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand, and on their left. ²³ The Egyptians pursued, and went in after them into the midst of the sea: all of Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen. ²⁴ It happened in the morning watch, that the LORD looked out on the Egyptian army through the pillar of fire and of cloud, and confused the Egyptian army. ²⁵ He bound their chariot wheels, so that they drove them with difficulty. And the Egyptians said, "Let's flee from the face of Israel, for the LORD fights for them against the Egyptians." ²⁶ The LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come again on the Egyptians, on their chariots, and on their horsemen." ²⁷ Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it. The LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. ²⁸ The waters returned, and covered the chariots and the horsemen, even all Pharaoh's army that went in after them into the sea. There remained not so much as one of them. ²⁹ But the children of Israel walked on dry land in the midst of the sea, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand, and on their left. ³⁰ Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. ³¹ Israel saw the great work which the LORD did to the Egyptians, and the people feared the LORD; and they believed in God, and in his servant Moses.

²² Moses led Israel onward from the Sea at the End, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water. ²³ When they came to Marah, they couldn't drink from the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore its name was called Marah. ²⁴ The people murmured against Moses, saying, "What shall we drink?" ²⁵ Then he cried to the LORD. The LORD showed him a tree, and he threw it into the waters, and the waters were made sweet. There he made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there he tested them; ²⁶ and he said, "If you will diligently listen to the voice of the LORD your God, and will do that which is right in his eyes, and will pay attention to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you, which I have put on the Egyptians; for I am the LORD who heals you. ²⁷ They came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water, and seventy palm trees: and they camped there by the waters.

¹ They took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.

You shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink." Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. ⁷ He called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because the children of Israel quarreled, and because they tested the LORD, saying, "Is the LORD among us, or not?" ⁸ Then Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim.

⁴ The mixed multitude that was among them lusted exceedingly: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, "Who will give us flesh to eat?

³⁴ The name of that place was called Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people who lusted.

⁶ "The LORD our God spoke to us in Horeb, saying, You have lived long enough in this mountain:

⁵ I turned and came down from the mountain, and put the tables in the ark which I had made; and there they are as the LORD commanded me. ⁶ (The children of Israel traveled from Beeroth Bene Jaakan to Moserah. There Aaron died, and there he was buried; and Eleazar his son ministered in the priest's office in his place.

⁸ So we passed by from our brothers the descendants of Esau, who dwell in Seir, from the way of the Arabah from Eilat and from Ezion Geber. We turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.

²⁶ King Solomon made a navy of ships in Ezion Geber, which is beside Eilat, on the shore of the Sea at the End, in the land of Edom.

⁴⁸ Jehoshaphat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they did not go; for the ships were broken at Ezion Geber.

³⁶ and he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish; and they made the ships in Ezion Geber.

²¹ So they went up, and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, to Lebo Hamath.

¹ The children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came into the wilderness of Zin in the first month: and the people stayed in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.

¹⁴ because you rebelled against my word in the wilderness of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the waters before their eyes." (These are the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.)

⁵¹ because you trespassed against me in the midst of the children of Israel at the waters of Meribah of Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because you did not sanctify me in the midst of the children of Israel.

¹⁶ and when we cried to the LORD, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and brought us forth out of Egypt: and look, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of your border.

²² They traveled from Kadesh: and the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came to Mount Hor. ²³ The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron in Mount Hor, by the border of the land of Edom, saying,

⁴ They traveled from Mount Hor by the way to the Lake of Rushes, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.

²⁴ "Aaron shall be gathered to his people; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given to the children of Israel, because you rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah. ²⁵ Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor; ²⁶ and strip Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be taken, and shall die there." ²⁷ Moses did as the LORD commanded: and they went up into Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation. ²⁸ Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there on the top of the mountain: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.

¹ When the Canaanite king of Arad who lived in the Negev heard that Israel came by the way of Atharim, then he fought against Israel, and took some of them captive. ² Israel vowed a vow to the LORD, and said, "If you will indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities." ³ The LORD listened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and the name of the place was called Hormah. ⁴ They traveled from Mount Hor by the way to the Lake of Rushes, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way. ⁵ The people spoke against God, and against Moses, "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread, and there is no water; and our soul loathes this light bread." ⁶ The LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and many people of Israel died. ⁷ The people came to Moses, and said, "We have sinned, because we have spoken against the LORD, and against you. Pray to the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us." Moses prayed for the people. ⁸ The LORD said to Moses, "Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a standard: and it shall happen, that everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live." ⁹ Moses made a serpent of bronze, and set it on the standard: and it happened, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked to the serpent of bronze, he lived. ¹⁰ The children of Israel traveled, and camped in Oboth. ¹¹ They traveled from Oboth, and camped at Iyeabarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrise.

³⁴ The people of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,

² They have gone up to the temple, and to Dibon, to the high places to weep. Moab wails over Nebo and over Medeba. On every head is baldness. Every beard is cut off.

¹⁸ You daughter who dwells in Dibon, come down from your glory, and sit in thirst; for the destroyer of Moab has come up against you, he has destroyed your strongholds.

²² and on Dibon, and on Nebo, and on Beth Diblathaim,

¹⁴ I will stretch out my hand on them, and make the land desolate and waste, from the wilderness toward Riblah, throughout all their habitations: and they shall know that I am the LORD."'"

²⁰ and from Bamoth to the valley that is in the field of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looks down on the desert.

¹² The LORD said to Moses, "Go up into this mountain of Abarim, and see the land which I have given to the children of Israel.

²³ "You shall make a table of acacia wood. Two feet eleven inches shall be its length, and eighteen inches its breadth, and two feet three inches its height.

¹ Now Israel stayed in Shittim; and the people defiled themselves by having sexual relations with the women of Moab, ² and they called the people to the sacrifices of their gods; and the people ate, and bowed down to their gods. ³ Israel joined himself to Baal Peor: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel. ⁴ The LORD said to Moses, "Take all the chiefs of the people, and hang them up to the LORD before the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may turn away from Israel." ⁵ Moses said to the judges of Israel, "Everyone kill his men who have joined themselves to Baal Peor." ⁶ Look, one of the children of Israel came and brought to his brothers a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, while they were weeping at the door of the Tent of Meeting. ⁷ When Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from the midst of the congregation, and took a spear in his hand; ⁸ and he went after the man of Israel into the pavilion, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her body. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel. ⁹ Those who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.

¹ And Joshua the son of Nun secretly sent two young men out of Shittim as spies, saying, "Go, view the land, and Jericho." And the two young men went and came to Jericho and entered into the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab, and slept there.

²⁰ Beth Peor, the slopes of Pisgah, Beth Jeshimoth,

⁹ therefore, look, I will open the side of Moab from the cities, from his cities which are on his frontiers, the glory of the country, Beth Jeshimoth, Baal Meon, and Kiriathaim,

⁴⁸ They traveled from the mountains of Abarim, and camped in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho. ⁴⁹ They camped by the Jordan, from Beth Jeshimoth even to Abel Shittim in the plains of Moab.

¹ When the LORD your God shall bring you into the land where you go to possess it, and shall cast out many nations before you, the Hethite, and the Girgashite, and the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, seven nations greater and mightier than you;

¹ Hear, Israel: you are to pass over the Jordan this day, to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to the sky,

¹⁷ The priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan; and all Israel passed over on dry ground, until all the nation had passed completely over the Jordan.

²⁴ You shall not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor follow their practices, but you shall utterly overthrow them and demolish their pillars.

³¹ I will set your border from the Sea at the End even to the sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness to the River; for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you. ³² You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods. ³³ They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against me, for if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you."

¹² Be careful, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, lest it be for a snare in the midst of you: ¹³ but you shall break down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and you shall cut down their Asherim; ¹⁴ for you shall worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. ¹⁵ Do not make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, lest they play the prostitute after their gods, and sacrifice to their gods, and one call you and you eat of his sacrifice; ¹⁶ and you take of their daughters to your sons, and their daughters play the prostitute after their gods, and make your sons play the prostitute after their gods. ¹⁷ You shall make no cast idols for yourselves.

¹ "'You shall make for yourselves no idols, neither shall you raise up an engraved image or a pillar, neither shall you place any figured stone in your land, to bow down to it: for I am the LORD your God.

² and when the LORD your God shall deliver them up before you, and you shall strike them; then you shall utterly destroy them: you shall make no covenant with them, nor show mercy to them; ³ neither shall you make marriages with them; your daughter you shall not give to his son, nor shall you take his daughter for your son. ⁴ For he will turn away your son from following me, that he may serve other gods; so the anger of the LORD would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly. ⁵ But you shall deal with them like this: you shall break down their altars, and dash their pillars in pieces, and cut down their Asherim, and burn their engraved images with fire.

²⁵ You shall burn the engraved images of their gods with fire. You shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it for yourself, lest you be snared in it; for it is an abomination to the LORD your God. ²⁶ You shall not bring an abomination into your house, and become a devoted thing like it. You shall utterly detest it, and you shall utterly abhor it; for it is a devoted thing.

² You shall surely destroy all the places in which the nations that you shall dispossess served their gods, on the high mountains, and on the hills, and under every green tree: ³ and you shall break down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and burn their Asherim with fire; and you shall cut down the engraved images of their gods; and you shall destroy their name out of that place.

³⁰ take heed to yourself that you not be ensnared to follow them, after that they are destroyed from before you; and that you not inquire after their gods, saying, "How do these nations serve their gods? I will do likewise." ³¹ You shall not do so to the LORD your God: for every abomination to the LORD, which he hates, have they done to their gods; for even their sons and their daughters do they burn in the fire to their gods.

¹⁶ But of the cities of these peoples, that the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance, you shall save alive nothing that breathes; ¹⁷ but you shall utterly destroy them: the Hethite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite; as the LORD your God has commanded you; ¹⁸ that they not teach you to do after all their abominations, which they have done to their gods; so would you sin against the LORD your God.

¹¹ They struck all the souls who were in it with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them. There was no one left who breathed. He burnt Hazor with fire. ¹² Joshua captured all the cities of those kings, with their kings, and he struck them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed them; as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded.

⁷ that you not come among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow down yourselves to them;

² and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall break down their altars.' But you have not listened to my voice: why have you done this?

³⁴ They did not destroy the peoples, as the LORD commanded them, ³⁵ but mixed themselves with the nations, and learned their works. ³⁶ They served their idols, which became a snare to them.

³¹ For you are to pass over the Jordan to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God gives you, and you shall possess it, and dwell in it.

⁸ When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, when he divided humankind, he set the bounds of the peoples according to the number of the sons of God.

⁴³ So the LORD gave to Israel all the land which he swore to give to their fathers. They possessed it, and lived in it.

¹ [A Psalm by David.] The earth is the LORD's, and its fullness; the world, and those who dwell in it. ² For he has founded it on the seas, and established it on the floods.

¹⁶ The heavens are the heavens of the LORD; but the earth has he given to the descendants of Adam.

⁵ "I have made the earth, the men and the animals that are on the surface of the earth, by my great power and by my outstretched arm; and I give it to whom it seems right to me. ⁶ Now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and the animals of the field also have I given him to serve him.

¹⁷ The sentence is by the decree of the watchers, and the decision is a command of the holy ones; so that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to anyone he wants, and sets up over it the lowliest of men.

²⁵ that you shall be driven from men, and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field, and you shall be made to eat grass as oxen, and shall be wet with the dew of the sky, and seven times shall pass over you; until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will.

³² and you shall be driven from men; and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field; you shall be made to eat grass as oxen; and seven times shall pass over you; until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he wants."

¹⁵ Is it not lawful for me to do what I want to with what I own? Or is your eye evil, because I am good?'

⁵³ "To these the land shall be divided for an inheritance according to the number of names. ⁵⁴ To the more you shall give the more inheritance, and to the fewer you shall give the less inheritance: to everyone according to those who were numbered of him shall his inheritance be given. ⁵⁵ Notwithstanding, the land shall be divided by lot: according to the names of the tribes of their fathers they shall inherit. ⁵⁶ According to the lot shall their inheritance be divided between the more and the fewer."

¹ The lot for the tribe of the descendants of Judah according to their families was to the border of Edom, even to the wilderness of Zin southward, toward the Negev in the far south. ² Their south border was from the uttermost part of the Salt Sea, from the bay that looks southward; ³ and it went out southward of the ascent of Akrabbim, and passed along to Zin, and went up by the south of Kadesh Barnea, and passed along by Hezron, went up to Addar, and turned about to Karka; ⁴ and it passed along to Azmon, went out at the Wadi of Egypt; and the border ended at the sea. This shall be your south border. ⁵ The east border was the Salt Sea, even to the end of the Jordan. The border of the north quarter was from the bay of the sea at the end of the Jordan. ⁶ The border went up to Beth Hoglah, and passed along by the north of Beth Arabah; and the border went up to the Stone of Bohan the son of Reuben. ⁷ The border went up to Debir from the Valley of Achor, and so northward, looking toward Gilgal, that is over against the ascent of Adummim, which is on the south side of the river. The border passed along to the waters of En Shemesh, and ended at En Rogel. ⁸ The border went up by the Valley of Ben Hinnom to the slope of the Jebusites southward (that is, Jerusalem); and the border went up to the top of the mountain that lies before the Valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the farthest part of the Valley of Rephaim northward. ⁹ The border extended from the top of the mountain to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah, and went out to the cities of Mount Ephron; and the border extended to Baalah (that is, Kiriath Jearim); ¹⁰ and the border turned about from Baalah westward to Mount Seir, and passed along to the side of Mount Jearim on the north (that is, Kesalon), and went down to Beth Shemesh, and passed along by Timnah; ¹¹ and the border went out to the side of Ekron northward; and the border extended to Shikkeron, and passed along to Mount Baalah, and went out at Jabneel; and the goings out of the border were at the sea. ¹² The west border was to the shore of the Great Sea. This is the border of the descendants of Judah according to their families.

¹ The lot came out for the descendants of Joseph from the Jordan at Jericho, at the waters of Jericho on the east, even the wilderness, going up from Jericho through the hill country to Bethel. ² It went out from Bethel to Luz, and passed along to the border of the Archites at Ataroth; ³ and it went down westward to the border of the Japhletites, to the border of Lower Beth Horon, even to Gezer; and ended at the sea. ⁴ The descendants of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, took their inheritance.

¹ This was the lot for the tribe of Manasseh, for he was the firstborn of Joseph. As for Makir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, because he was a man of war, therefore he had Gilead and Bashan. ² So this was for the rest of the descendants of Manasseh according to their families: for the descendants of Abiezer, for the descendants of Helek, for the descendants of Asriel, for the descendants of Shechem, for the descendants of Hepher, and for the descendants of Shemida: these were the male descendants of Manasseh the son of Joseph according to their families. ³ But Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Makir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters: and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. ⁴ They came near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the leaders, saying, "The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brothers." Therefore according to the commandment of the LORD he gave them an inheritance among the brothers of their father. ⁵ Ten parts fell to Manasseh, besides the land of Gilead and Bashan, which is beyond the Jordan; ⁶ because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons. The land of Gilead belonged to the rest of the sons of Manasseh. ⁷ The border of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethath, which is before Shechem. The border went along to the right hand to Jashub and to En Tappuah. ⁸ The land of Tappuah belonged to Manasseh; but Tappuah, on the border of Manasseh, belonged to the descendants of Ephraim. ⁹ The border went down to Wadi Kanah, southward of the wadi. These cities belonged to Ephraim among the cities of Manasseh. The border of Manasseh was on the north side of the wadi, and ended at the sea. ¹⁰ Southward it was Ephraim's, and northward it was Manasseh's, and the sea was his border. They reached to Asher on the north, and to Issachar on the east. ¹¹ And Manasseh had in Issachar and in Asher, Beth Shean and its towns, and Ibleam and its towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of Endor and its towns, and the inhabitants of Taanach and its towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns; three regions. ¹² Yet the descendants of Manasseh couldn't drive out the inhabitants of those cities; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land. ¹³ It happened, when the children of Israel had grown strong, that they put the Canaanites to forced labor, and did not utterly drive them out.

¹¹ The lot of the tribe of the descendants of Benjamin came up according to their families. The border of their lot went out between the descendants of Judah and the descendants of Joseph. ¹² Their border on the north quarter was from the Jordan. The border went up to the side of Jericho on the north, and went up through the hill country westward. It ended at the wilderness of Beth Aven. ¹³ The border passed along from there to Luz, to the side of Luz (that is, Bethel), southward. The border went down to Ataroth Addar, by the mountain that lies on the south of Lower Beth Horon. ¹⁴ The border extended, and turned around on the west quarter southward, from the mountain that lies before Beth Horon southward; and ended at Kiriath Baal (that is, Kiriath Jearim), a city of the descendants of Judah. This was the west quarter. ¹⁵ The south quarter was from the farthest part of Kiriath Jearim. The border went out westward, and went out to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah. ¹⁶ The border went down to the farthest part of the mountain that lies before the Valley of Ben Hinnom, which is in the Valley of Rephaim northward. It went down to the Valley of Hinnom, to the slope of the Jebusites southward, and went down to En Rogel. ¹⁷ It extended northward, went out at En Shemesh, and went out to Geliloth, which is over against the ascent of Adummim. It went down to the Stone of Bohan the son of Reuben. ¹⁸ And it passed on to the north to the shoulder of Beth Arabah, and went down to the Arabah. ¹⁹ The border passed along to the side of Beth Hoglah northward; and the border ended at the north bay of the Salt Sea, at the south end of the Jordan. This was the south border. ²⁰ The Jordan was its border on the east quarter. This was the inheritance of the descendants of Benjamin, by the borders around it, according to their families. ²¹ Now the cities of the tribe of the descendants of Benjamin according to their families were Jericho, and Beth Hoglah, and Emek Keziz, ²² and Beth Arabah, and Zemaraim, and Bethel, ²³ and Avvim, and Parah, and Ophrah, ²⁴ and Chephar Ammoni, and Ophni, and Geba; twelve cities with their villages. ²⁵ Gibeon, and Ramah, and Beeroth, ²⁶ and Mizpeh, and Chephirah, and Mozah, ²⁷ and Rekem, and Irpeel, and Taralah, ²⁸ and Zelah, Haeleph, and Jebus (that is, Jerusalem), and Gibeath, and Kiriath Jearim; fourteen cities with their villages. This is the inheritance of the descendants of Benjamin according to their families.

¹¹ Their border went up westward, and to Maralah, and reached to Dabbesheth, and it reached to the wadi that is before Jokneam. ¹² And it turned from Sadud eastward toward the sunrise to the border of Chisloth Tabor, and it went out to Daberath, and went up to Japhia. ¹³ From there it passed along eastward to Gath Hepher, to Eth Kazin; and it went out to Rimmon which bends toward Neah. ¹⁴ The border turned around it on the north to Hannathon; and it ended at the Valley of Iphtah El; ¹⁵ Kattath, Nahalal, Shim'on, Idalah, and Bethlehem: twelve cities with their villages. ¹⁶ This is the inheritance of the descendants of Zebulun according to their families, these cities with their villages. ¹⁷ The fourth lot came out for Issachar, even for the descendants of Issachar according to their families. ¹⁸ And their border was to Jezreel, and Chesulloth, and Shunem, ¹⁹ and Hapharaim, and Shion, and Anaharath, ²⁰ and Daberath, and Kishion, and Ebez, ²¹ and Remeth, and Engannim, and En Haddah, and Beth Pazzez. ²² The border reached to Tabor, and Shahazumah, and Beth Shemesh; and their border ended at the Jordan: sixteen cities with their villages. ²³ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the descendants of Issachar according to their families, the cities with their villages. ²⁴ The fifth lot came out for the tribe of the descendants of Asher according to their families. ²⁵ Their border was from Helkath (and Hali, and Beten, and Achshaph, ²⁶ and Allammelech, and Amad, and Mishal) and it reached to Carmel westward, and to Shihor Libnath. ²⁷ And it turned eastward to Beth Dagon, and reached to Zebulun and to the Valley of Iphtah El on the north. And the border goes north to Beth Emek and Neiel, and it went out to Cabul on the north, ²⁸ and Abdon, and Rehob, and Hammon, and Kanah, even to Greater Sidon. ²⁹ The border turned to Ramah, to the fortified city of Tyre; and the border turned to Hosah, and it ended at the sea; Mahalab, and Achzib, ³⁰ and Acco, and Aphek, and Rehob: twenty-two cities with their villages. ³¹ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the descendants of Asher according to their families, these cities with their villages. ³² The sixth lot came out for the descendants of Naphtali, even for the descendants of Naphtali according to their families. ³³ Their border was from Heleph, from the oak in Zaanannim, Adaminekeb, and Jabneel, to Lakkum. It ended at the Jordan. ³⁴ The border turned westward to Aznoth Tabor, and went out from there to Hukkok. It reached to Zebulun on the south, and reached to Asher on the west, and to Judah at the Jordan toward the east. ³⁵ The fortified cities were Ziddim, Zer, Hammath, Rakkath, Kinnereth, ³⁶ Adamah, Ramah, Hazor, ³⁷ Kedesh, Edrei, En Hazor, ³⁸ Yiron, Migdal El, Horem, Beth Anath, and Beth Shemesh; nineteen cities with their villages. ³⁹ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the descendants of Naphtali according to their families, the cities with their villages. ⁴⁰ The seventh lot came out for the tribe of the descendants of Dan according to their families. ⁴¹ And the border of their inheritance was Zorah, and Eshtaol, and Ir Shemesh, ⁴² and Shaalbin, and Aijalon, and Jithlah, ⁴³ and Elon, and Timnah, and Ekron, ⁴⁴ and Eltekeh, and Gibbethon, and Baalath, ⁴⁵ and Jehud, and Azzur, and Bene Berak, and Gath Rimmon, ⁴⁶ and from the sea, Jarkon, and Rakkon, with the border over against Joppa. ⁴⁷ And the border of the descendants of Dan slipped out of their control, so the descendants of Dan went up and fought against Leshem, and after capturing it and striking it with the sword they took possession of it and dwelt in it, and called Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their ancestor. ⁴⁸ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the descendants of Dan according to their families, these cities with their villages.

³³ They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against me, for if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you."

⁴ For he will turn away your son from following me, that he may serve other gods; so the anger of the LORD would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly.

¹⁶ You shall consume all the peoples whom the LORD your God shall deliver to you; your eye shall not pity them: neither shall you serve their gods; for that will be a snare to you.

¹² Else if you do at all go back, and hold fast to the remnant of these nations, even these who remain among you, and make marriages with them, and go in to them, and they to you; ¹³ know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no longer drive these nations from out of your sight; but they shall be a snare and a trap to you, a scourge in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you.

²¹ The people of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites who inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the people of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day. ²² And the house of Joseph also went up against Bethel; and the LORD was with them. ²³ And the house of Joseph sent out spies to Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.) ²⁴ And the spies saw a man coming out of the city, and they captured him, and they said to him, "Please show us the entrance into the city, and we will show you mercy." ²⁵ He showed them the entrance into the city; and they struck the city with the edge of the sword; but they let the man go and all his family. ²⁶ The man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called its name Luz, which is its name to this day. ²⁷ Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shean and its towns, nor Taanach and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land. ²⁸ It happened, when Israel had grown strong, that they put the Canaanites to forced labor, and did not utterly drive them out. ²⁹ Ephraim didn't drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer; but the Canaanites lived in Gezer among them. ³⁰ Zebulun didn't drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites lived among them, and became subject to forced labor. ³¹ Asher did not drive out the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Sidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob; ³² but the Asherites lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not drive them out. ³³ Naphtali didn't drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth Anath; but he lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh and of Beth Anath became subject to forced labor. ³⁴ The Amorites forced the people of Dan into the hill country; for they would not allow them to come down to the valley; ³⁵ but the Amorites would dwell in Mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became subject to forced labor. ³⁶ The border of the Amorites was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from Sela and upward.

³ Therefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you, but they will become your adversaries, and their gods shall be a snare to you."

²⁴ "'There shall be no more a pricking brier to the house of Israel, nor a hurting thorn of any that are around them, that scorned them; and they shall know that I am the Lord GOD.'

²⁸ that the land not vomit you out also, when you defile it, as it vomited out the nation that was before you.

²³ You shall not walk in the customs of the nation, which I am casting out before you: for they did all these things, and therefore I abhorred them.

⁶³ It shall happen that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you, so the LORD will rejoice over you to cause you to perish, and to destroy you; and you shall be plucked from off the land where you go in to possess it.

²⁸ and the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as at this day."

¹⁵ It shall happen that as all the good things have come on you of which the LORD your God spoke to you, so the LORD will bring on you all the evil things, until he has destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you, ¹⁶ when you disobey the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods, and bow down yourselves to them. Then the anger of the LORD will be kindled against you, and you will perish quickly from off the good land which he has given to you."

¹⁷ Therefore he brought on them the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion on young man or virgin, old man or gray-headed: he gave them all into his hand. ¹⁸ All the vessels of God's house, great and small, and the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king, and of his officials, all these he brought to Babylon. ¹⁹ They burnt God's house, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem, and burnt all its palaces with fire, and destroyed all the goodly vessels of it. ²⁰ He carried those who had escaped from the sword away to Babylon; and they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia:

²⁴ "Son of man, they who inhabit those waste places in the land of Israel speak, saying, 'Abraham was one, and he inherited the land: but we are many; the land is given us for inheritance.' ²⁵ Therefore tell them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "You eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes to your idols, and shed blood: and shall you possess the land? ²⁶ You stand on your sword, you work abomination, and every one of you defiles his neighbor's wife: and shall you possess the land?"' ²⁷ "You shall tell them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "As I live, surely those who are in the waste places shall fall by the sword; and him who is in the open field will I give to the animals to be devoured; and those who are in the strongholds and in the caves shall die of the pestilence. ²⁸ I will make the land a desolation and an astonishment; and the pride of her power shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, so that none shall pass through. ²⁹ Then shall they know that I am the LORD, when I have made the land a desolation and an astonishment, because of all their abominations which they have committed."'

²³ Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who nurse infants in those days. For there will be great distress in the land, and wrath to this people. ²⁴ And they will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive into all the nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled down by non-Jewish people until the times are fulfilled. And there will be times of the non-Jewish people.
