His throne is sustained by love. ²⁹ The glory of young men is their strength. The splendor of old men is their gray hair. ³⁰ Wounding blows cleanse away evil, and beatings purge the innermost parts.

²¹ He drank of the wine and got drunk. He was uncovered within his tent. ²² And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father naked and told his two brothers outside. ²³ Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it on both their shoulders, went in backwards, and covered the nakedness of their father. Their faces were turned the other way, and they did not see their father's nakedness.

³⁶ Abigail came to Nabal; and look, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king. Nabal's heart was merry within him, for he was very drunk. Therefore she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light. ³⁷ It happened in the morning, when the wine was gone out of Nabal, that his wife told him these things, and his heart died within him, and he became as a stone. ³⁸ It happened about ten days after, that the LORD struck Nabal, so that he died.

¹³ And the next day David summoned him, and he ate and drank in his presence, and he made him drunk. But in the evening he went out and lay on a bed with the servants of his lord, and did not go down to his house.

²⁹ Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? ³⁰ Those who stay long at the wine; those who go to seek out mixed wine. ³¹ Do not look at the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly. ³² In the end, it bites like a serpent, and poisons like a viper. ³³ Your eyes will see strange things, and your mind will imagine confusing things. ³⁴ Yes, you will be as he who lies down in the midst of the sea, or as he who lies on top of the rigging: ³⁵ "They hit me, and I was not hurt. They beat me, and I do not feel it. When will I wake up? I can do it again. I can find another."

⁴ It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, or for princes to take strong drink,

²² Woe to those who are mighty to drink wine, and champions at mixing strong drink;

⁷ They also reel with wine, and stagger with strong drink. The priest and the prophet reel with strong drink. They are swallowed up by wine. They stagger with strong drink. They err in vision. They stumble in judgment.

¹² "Come," say they, "I will get wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and tomorrow shall be as this day, great beyond measure."

¹¹ Prostitution, wine, and new wine take away understanding.

⁵ On the day of our king, the princes made themselves sick with the heat of wine. He joined his hand with mockers.

¹⁵ "Woe to him who gives his neighbor drink, pouring your inflaming wine until they are drunk, so that you may gaze at their naked bodies. ¹⁶ You are filled with shame, and not glory. You will also drink, and be exposed. The cup of the LORD's right hand will come around to you, and disgrace will cover your glory.

¹⁰ nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor swindlers, will inherit the Kingdom of God.

²¹ envyings, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, even as I also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

¹⁸ Do not get drunk with wine, which is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,

³⁸ even the censers of these sinners against their own lives; and let them be made beaten plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the LORD; therefore they are holy; and they shall be a sign to the children of Israel."

²³ Then king Solomon swore by the LORD, saying, "God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah has not spoken this word against his own life.

³⁶ But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul. All those who hate me love death."

¹⁴ The king's wrath is a messenger of death, but a wise man will pacify it. ¹⁵ In the light of the king's face is life. His favor is like a cloud of the spring rain.

¹² The king's wrath is like the roaring of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.

⁴ If the spirit of the ruler rises up against you, do not leave your place; for gentleness lays great offenses to rest.

¹⁰ They will walk after the LORD, who will roar like a lion; for he will roar, and the children will come trembling from the west.

⁸ The lion has roared. Who will not fear? The Lord GOD has spoken. Who can but prophesy?

¹⁰ You have devised shame to your house, by cutting off many peoples, and have sinned against your soul.

¹⁷ He who is quick to become angry will commit folly, and a crafty man is hated.

²⁹ He who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a quick temper displays folly.

³² One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty; one who rules his spirit, than he who takes a city.

¹⁴ The beginning of strife is like breaching a dam, therefore stop contention before quarreling breaks out.

⁶ A fool's lips come into strife, and his mouth invites beatings.

¹¹ The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. It is his glory to overlook an offense.

²⁴ The proud and haughty man, "scoffer" is his name; he works in the arrogance of pride.

⁸ Do not be hasty in bringing charges to court. What will you do in the end when your neighbor shames you? ⁹ Debate your case with your neighbor, and do not betray the confidence of another; ¹⁰ lest one who hears it put you to shame, and your bad reputation never depart.

⁶ to the praise of the glory of his grace, which he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved One, ⁷ in whom we have our redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, ⁸ which he made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence,

³² And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.

¹⁴ But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not boast and do not lie against the truth.

¹ Where do conflicts and quarrels among you come from? Do they not come from your passions that war in your members?

¹⁰ A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: ¹¹ so your poverty will come as a robber, and your scarcity as an armed man.

⁴ He becomes poor who works with a lazy hand, but the hand of the diligent brings wealth.

⁴ The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing, but the desire of the diligent shall be fully satisfied.

¹⁵ Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep. The idle soul shall suffer hunger.

²⁴ The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.

³⁴ so your poverty will come as a robber, and your want as an armed man.

¹³ The sluggard says, "There is a lion in the road. A fierce lion roams the streets." ¹⁴ As the door turns on its hinges, so does the sluggard on his bed. ¹⁵ The sluggard buries his hand in the dish. He is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth. ¹⁶ The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who answer with discretion.

³ For the foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them, ⁴ but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. ⁵ Now while the bridegroom delayed, they all slumbered and slept. ⁶ But at midnight there was a cry, 'Look. The bridegroom. Come out to meet him.' ⁷ Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. ⁸ The foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' ⁹ But the wise answered, saying, 'No, there will not be enough for us and you. Go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.' ¹⁰ While they went away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut.

²⁴ "He also who had received the one talent came and said, 'Lord, I knew you that you are a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you did not scatter. ²⁵ I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the earth. See, you have what is yours.' ²⁶ "But his lord answered him, 'You wicked and slothful servant. You knew that I reap where I did not sow, and gather where I did not scatter. ²⁷ You ought therefore to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received back my own with interest. ²⁸ Take away therefore the talent from him, and give it to him who has the ten talents.

⁵ Yes, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence; and in moral excellence, knowledge; ⁶ and in knowledge, self-control; and in self-control patience; and in patience godliness; ⁷ and in godliness brotherly affection; and in brotherly affection, love. ⁸ For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to be not idle nor unfruitful to the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ For he who lacks these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins. ¹⁰ Therefore, brothers, be more diligent to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never stumble. ¹¹ For thus you will be richly supplied with the entrance into the everlasting Kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

⁶ They plot injustice; they hide a well-conceived plan. Surely man's mind and heart are cunning.

⁴ The words of a man's mouth are like deep waters. The fountain of wisdom is like a flowing brook.

¹¹ For what person knows the things of a person except the spirit of the person that is in him? So also, no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.

³⁹ and I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their good, and of their children after them:

⁶ They were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord.

³⁹ For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all who are far off, even as many as the Lord our God will call to himself."

¹² For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience, that with pure motives and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God we conducted ourselves in the world, and more abundantly toward you.

¹¹ For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people, ¹² instructing us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly desires, and to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age;

³ For I rejoiced greatly, when brothers came and testified about your truth, even as you walk in truth. ⁴ I have no greater joy than this, to hear about my children walking in truth.

³ David's men said to him, "Look, we are afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?" ⁴ Then David inquired of the LORD yet again. The LORD answered him, and said, "Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into your hand."

⁴ He will judge the poor of the people. He will save the children of the needy, and will break the oppressor in pieces.

⁹ For, look, your enemies, LORD, for, look, your enemies shall perish. All the evildoers will be scattered.

⁴ The King's strength also loves justice. You do establish equity. You execute justice and righteousness in Jacob.

⁶ My eyes will be on the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me. He who walks in a perfect way, he will serve me. ⁷ He who practices deceit won't dwell within my house. He who speaks falsehood won't be established before my eyes. ⁸ Morning by morning, I will destroy all the wicked of the land; to cut off all evildoers from the LORD's city.

¹² It is an abomination to kings to do wickedness, for the throne is established by righteousness.

² For in many things we all stumble. If anyone does not stumble in word, this one is a perfect person, able to bridle the whole body also.

⁸ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

³⁵ "'You shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in measures of length, of weight, or of quantity.

²⁵ You shall burn the engraved images of their gods with fire. You shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it for yourself, lest you be snared in it; for it is an abomination to the LORD your God. ²⁶ You shall not bring an abomination into your house, and become a devoted thing like it. You shall utterly detest it, and you shall utterly abhor it; for it is a devoted thing.

¹³ You shall not have in your bag diverse weights, a great and a small. ¹⁴ You shall not have in your house diverse measures, a great and a small. ¹⁵ You shall have a perfect and just weight. You shall have a perfect and just measure, that your days may be long in the land which the LORD your God gives you.

¹ A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, but accurate weights are his delight.

¹¹ Honest balances and scales are the LORD's; all the weights in the bag are his work.

²³ The LORD detests differing weights, and dishonest scales are no good.

⁴ Hear this, you who trample the needy, and destroy the poor of the land, ⁵ saying, 'When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell grain? And the Sabbath, that we may market wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel large, and dealing falsely with balances of deceit; ⁶ that we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes, and sell the sweepings with the wheat?'" ⁷ The LORD has sworn by the pride of Jacob, "Surely I will never forget any of their works.

¹⁰ Are there yet treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and a short ephah that is accursed? ¹¹ Shall I be pure with dishonest scales, and with a bag of deceitful weights?

⁸ But to the cowards, and unbelieving, and detestable, and murderers, and sexually immoral, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death."

³ The wicked go astray from the womb. They are wayward as soon as they are born, speaking lies.

⁸ The way of the guilty is devious, but the conduct of the innocent is upright.

¹⁵ Folly is bound up in the heart of a child: the rod of discipline drives it far from him.

¹⁶ By their fruits you will know them. Do you gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles?

¹⁵ For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and he will drink no wine nor strong drink. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.

¹³ Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing, they do not hear, neither do they understand. ¹⁴ And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says, 'In hearing you will hear, but will not understand, and seeing you will see, but not perceive. ¹⁵ For the heart of this people has grown dull, and their ears are sluggish in hearing, and they have closed their eyes, otherwise they might see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and turn back, and I would heal them.' ¹⁶ "But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear.

¹⁸ to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in me.'

¹⁷ that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him; ¹⁸ having the eyes of your heart enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of his calling, and what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

⁹ How long will you sleep, sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep?

¹¹ He who tills his land shall have plenty of bread, but he who chases fantasies is void of understanding.

³⁰ I went by the field of the sluggard, by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; ³¹ Look, it was all grown over with thorns. Its surface was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down. ³² Then I saw, and considered well. I saw, and received instruction: ³³ a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep; ³⁴ so your poverty will come as a robber, and your want as an armed man.

⁶ So the shipmaster came to him, and said to him, "What do you mean, sleeper? Arise, call on your God. Maybe your God will notice us, so that we won't perish."

¹¹ not lagging in diligence; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;

¹¹ Do this, knowing the time, that it is already time for you to awaken out of sleep, for salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed.

³⁴ Become sober-minded, and do not sin, for some are ignorant about God. I say this to your shame.

Yes, the price of wisdom is above rubies. ¹⁹ The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, Neither shall it be valued with pure gold.

¹⁵ She is more precious than rubies. None of the things you can desire are to be compared to her.

¹¹ For wisdom is better than rubies. All the things that may be desired can't be compared to it.

²⁰ The tongue of the righteous is like choice silver. The heart of the wicked is of little worth. ²¹ The lips of the righteous feed many, but the foolish die for lack of understanding.

⁷ The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so with the heart of fools.

²³ Joy comes to a man with the reply of his mouth. How good is a word at the right time.

¹⁶ How much better it is to get wisdom than gold. Yes, to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.

²¹ The wise in heart shall be called prudent. Pleasantness of the lips promotes instruction.

²⁴ Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

¹² As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover to an obedient ear.

⁹ Further, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge. Yes, he pondered, sought out, and set in order many proverbs. ¹⁰ The Preacher sought to find out acceptable words, and that which was written blamelessly, words of truth. ¹¹ The words of the wise are like goads; and like nails well fastened are words from the masters of collections, which are given from one shepherd.

¹⁴ How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without someone preaching? ¹⁵ And how will they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of peace, who bring good news of good things."

²⁹ Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.

²⁶ If you take your neighbor's garment as collateral, you shall restore it to him before the sun goes down, ²⁷ for that is his only covering, it is his garment for his skin. What would he sleep in? It will happen, when he cries to me, that I will hear, for I am gracious.

¹⁶ To deliver you from the strange woman, even from the foreigner who flatters with her words;

³ For the lips of an adulteress drip honey. Her mouth is smoother than oil,

⁵ that they may keep you from the strange woman, from the foreigner who flatters with her words.

¹⁰ Look, there a woman met him with the attire of a prostitute, and with crafty intent.

¹⁵ He who is collateral for a stranger will suffer for it, but he who refuses pledges of collateral is secure.

²⁶ Do not be one of those who strike hands, of those who are collateral for debts. ²⁷ If you do not have means to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?

²⁷ For a prostitute is a deep pit; and a wayward wife is a narrow well.

¹³ Take his garment when he puts up collateral for a stranger. Hold it for a wayward woman.

⁶ When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit, and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. ⁷ The eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked. So they sewed fig leaves together, and made coverings for themselves.

¹² "Though wickedness is sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue, ¹³ though he spare it, and will not let it go, but keep it still within his mouth; ¹⁴ yet his food in his bowels is turned. It is cobra venom within him. ¹⁵ He has swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again. God will cast them out of his belly. ¹⁶ He shall suck cobra venom. The viper's tongue shall kill him. ¹⁷ He shall not look at the rivers, the flowing streams of honey and butter. ¹⁸ That for which he labored he shall restore, and shall not swallow it down. According to the substance that he has gotten, he shall not rejoice. ¹⁹ For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor. He has violently taken away a house, and he shall not build it up. ²⁰ "Because he knew no quietness within him, he shall not save anything of that in which he delights.

¹⁷ For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

¹⁷ "Stolen water is sweet. Food eaten in secret is pleasant." ¹⁸ But he doesn't know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.

⁹ Rejoice, young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes; but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.

¹⁵ He has filled me with bitterness, he has given me in full measure wormwood. ¹⁶ He has also broken my teeth with gravel; he has pressed me down in the dust.

²⁵ choosing rather to share ill treatment with God's people, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a time;

¹ It happened after the death of Joshua, the children of Israel asked of the LORD, saying, "Who should go up first to fight for us against the Canaanites?" ² The LORD said, "Judah should go up. Look, I have delivered the land into his hand."

²⁹ Would that this people were under my hand. Then I would remove Abimelech. I would say to Abimelech, "Increase your army, and come out."

⁷ Look, you children of Israel, all of you, give your advice and counsel here."

¹⁸ The children of Israel arose, and went up to Bethel, and asked counsel of God; and they said, "Who shall go up for us first to battle against the people of Benjamin?" The LORD said, "Judah will go up first."

²³ The children of Israel went up and wept before the LORD until evening; and they asked of the LORD, saying, "Shall I again draw near to battle against the people of Benjamin my brother?" The LORD said, "Go up against him."

²⁶ Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came to Bethel, and wept, and sat there before the LORD, and fasted that day until evening; and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD. ²⁷ The children of Israel asked of the LORD (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days, ²⁸ and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days), "Shall I yet again go out to battle against the people of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease?" The LORD said, "Go up; for tomorrow I will deliver him into your hand."

²⁶ Then Abner called to Joab, and said, "Shall the sword devour forever? Do you not know that it will be bitterness in the latter end? How long shall it be then, before you ask the people to stop pursuing their brothers?" ²⁷ Joab said, "As the LORD lives, if you had not spoken, surely the people would not have given up the pursuit of their brothers until the morning."

¹⁷ Then Amaziah king of Judah consulted his advisers, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, "Come, let us look one another in the face." ¹⁸ Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, "The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, 'Give your daughter to my son as his wife; then a wild animal that was in Lebanon passed by, and trampled down the thistle. ¹⁹ You say to yourself that you have struck Edom; and your heart lifts you up to boast. Now stay at home. Why should you meddle with trouble, that you should fall, even you, and Judah with you?'" ²⁰ But Amaziah would not listen; for it was of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they had sought after the gods of Edom. ²¹ So Joash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth Shemesh, which belongs to Judah. ²² Judah was defeated by Israel; and they fled every man to his tent. ²³ Joash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth Shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate, six hundred eighty-nine feet.

¹⁴ Where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls, but in the multitude of counselors there is victory.

²² Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established.

⁶ for by wise guidance you wage your war; and victory is in many advisors.

⁸ Do not be hasty in bringing charges to court. What will you do in the end when your neighbor shames you?

³¹ Or what king, as he goes to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?

¹⁶ "'You shall not go up and down as a slanderer among your people; neither shall you stand against the life of your neighbor. I am the LORD.

¹³ One who brings gossip betrays a confidence, but one who is of a trustworthy spirit is one who keeps a secret.

³ He who guards his mouth guards his soul. One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.

²⁹ A man of violence entices his neighbor, and leads him in a way that is not good.

⁸ The words of a gossip are like tasty morsels, and they go down into a person's innermost parts.

²¹ My son, fear the LORD and the king. Do not join those who are rebellious:

²⁰ Without wood a fire goes out. Without gossip, contention ceases. ²¹ As coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire, so is a contentious man to kindling strife. ²² The words of a gossip are as tasty morsels, they go down into the innermost parts.

¹⁸ For those who are such do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own belly; and by their smooth and flattering speech, they deceive the hearts of the innocent.

¹² "Honor your father and your mother, that it may be well with you, that your days may be long in the land which the LORD your God gives you.

¹⁷ "Anyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.

⁹ "'For everyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death: he has cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.

¹⁶ 'Cursed is he who sets light by his father or his mother.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.'

⁵ "Yes, the light of the wicked shall be put out, The spark of his fire shall not shine. ⁶ The light shall be dark in his tent. His lamp above him shall be put out.

¹⁸ He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.

⁹ The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.

²⁰ for there will be no reward to the evil man; and the lamp of the wicked shall be snuffed out.

¹¹ There is a generation that curses their father, and doesn't bless their mother.

¹⁷ "The eye that mocks at his father, and scorns obedience to his mother: the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, the young eagles shall eat it.

⁴ For God said, 'Honor your father and your mother,' and, 'He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.'

¹³ Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; there is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.'

⁸ The foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.'

¹⁰ For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother;' and, 'Anyone who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.' ¹¹ But you say, 'If anyone tells his father or mother, "Whatever profit you might have received from me is Corban, that is to say, given to God;"' ¹² then you no longer allow him to do anything for his father or his mother, ¹³ making void the word of God by your tradition, which you have handed down. You do many things like this."

¹³ wild waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the blackness of darkness has been reserved forever.

¹⁶ Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare clothing as the clay; ¹⁷ he may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.

⁴ Do not weary yourself to be rich. In your wisdom, show restraint.

⁸ He who increases his wealth by excessive interest gathers it for one who has pity on the poor.

²⁰ A faithful man is rich with blessings; but one who is eager to be rich will not go unpunished.

²² A stingy man hurries after riches, and doesn't know that poverty waits for him.

⁶ Won't all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, 'Woe to him who increases that which is not his, and who enriches himself by extortion. How long?'

⁴ I will cause it to go out," says the LORD of hosts, "and it will enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him who swears falsely by my name; and it will remain in the midst of his house, and will destroy it with its timber and its stones."

² If you will not listen, and if you will not lay it to heart, to give glory to my name," says the LORD of hosts, "then will I send the curse on you, and I will curse your blessings. Indeed, I have cursed them already, because you do not lay it to heart.

⁹ But those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful lusts, such as plunge people into ruin and destruction.

³⁵ Vengeance is mine, I will repay, at the time when their foot slides; for the day of their calamity is near, and the things to come hasten upon them."

¹² It may be that the LORD will look on my affliction and return good to me for his cursing today."

¹⁴ Wait for the LORD. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for the LORD.

³⁴ Wait for the LORD, and keep his way, and he will exalt you to inherit the land. When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.

¹³ Whoever rewards evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.

²⁹ Do not say, "I will do to him as he has done to me; I will render to the man according to his work."

³¹ But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

²⁵ The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul that seeks him. ²⁶ It is good that a man should hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

³⁹ But I tell you, do not set yourself against the one who is evil. But whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.

¹⁷ Repay no one evil for evil. Respect what is honorable in the sight of all people. ¹⁸ If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all people. ¹⁹ Do not seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but leave room for the wrath. For it is written, "Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord."

¹⁵ See that no one returns evil for evil to anyone, but always seek what is good both for each other and for all.

²³ Who, when he was cursed, did not curse back. When he suffered, did not threaten, but committed himself to him who judges righteously;

⁹ not rendering evil for evil, or reviling for reviling; but instead blessing; because to this were you called, that you may inherit a blessing.

¹⁹ Therefore let them also who suffer according to the will of God in doing good entrust their souls to him, as to a faithful Creator.

¹⁰ Differing weights and differing measures, both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.

¹⁰ You shall have just balances, and a just ephah, and a just bath.

⁷ A merchant has dishonest scales in his hand. He loves to defraud.

⁵ saying, 'When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell grain? And the Sabbath, that we may market wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel large, and dealing falsely with balances of deceit;

⁴ Show me your ways, LORD. Teach me your paths.

¹² What man is he who fears the LORD? He shall instruct him in the way that he shall choose.

²³ The steps of a man are established by the LORD, and he delights in his way.

⁸ The wisdom of the prudent is to think about his way, but the folly of fools is deceit.

⁹ A man's heart plans his course, but the LORD directs his steps.

⁶ I will send him against a profane nation, and against the people who anger me will I give him a command to take the spoil and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets. ⁷ However he doesn't mean so, neither does his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy, and to cut off not a few nations.

²³ LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man who walks to direct his steps.

²³ but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven. And they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your secondary wives, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor know. And the God in whose hand your breath is, and whose are all your ways, you have not glorified.

²⁸ 'For in him we live, and move, and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also his offspring.'

¹⁵ "If anyone commits a trespass, and sins unwittingly, in the holy things of the LORD; then he shall bring his trespass offering to the LORD, a ram without blemish from the flock, according to your estimation in silver by shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for a trespass offering.

¹⁰ "'No stranger shall eat of the holy thing: a foreigner living with the priests, or a hired servant, shall not eat of the holy thing. ¹¹ But if a priest buys a slave, purchased by his money, he shall eat of it; and such as are born in his house, they shall eat of his bread. ¹² If a priest's daughter is married to an outsider, she shall not eat of the heave offering of the holy things. ¹³ But if a priest's daughter is a widow, or divorced, and has no child, and has returned to her father's house, as in her youth, she may eat of her father's bread: but no stranger shall eat any of it. ¹⁴ "'If a man eats something holy unwittingly, then he shall add the fifth part of its value to it, and shall give the holy thing to the priest. ¹⁵ The priests shall not profane the holy things of the children of Israel, which they offer to the LORD,

⁹ "'If it is an animal, of which men offer an offering to the LORD, all that any man gives of such to the LORD becomes holy. ¹⁰ He shall not alter it, nor change it, a good for a bad, or a bad for a good: and if he shall at all change animal for animal, then both it and that for which it is changed shall be holy.

³⁰ "'All the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the trees, is the LORD's. It is holy to the LORD. ³¹ If a man redeems anything of his tithe, he shall add a fifth part to it.

² When a man vows a vow to the LORD, or swears an oath to bind his soul with a bond, he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth. ³ "Also when a woman vows a vow to the LORD, and binds herself by a bond, being in her father's house, in her youth, ⁴ and her father hears her vow, and her bond with which she has bound her soul, and her father holds his peace at her; then all her vows shall stand, and every bond with which she has bound her soul shall stand. ⁵ But if her father disallow her in the day that he hears, none of her vows, or of her bonds with which she has bound her soul, shall stand: and the LORD will forgive her, because her father disallowed her. ⁶ "If she has a husband, while her vows are on her, or the rash utterance of her lips, with which she has bound her soul, ⁷ and her husband hears it, and holds his peace at her in the day that he hears it; then her vows shall stand, and her bonds with which she has bound her soul shall stand. ⁸ But if her husband forbids her in the day that he hears it, then he shall make void her vow which is on her, and the rash utterance of her lips, with which she has bound her soul: and the LORD will forgive her. ⁹ "But the vow of a widow, or of her who is divorced, everything with which she has bound her soul, shall stand against her. ¹⁰ "If she vowed in her husband's house, or bound her soul by a bond with an oath, ¹¹ and her husband heard it, and held his peace at her, and did not disallow her; then all her vows shall stand, and every bond with which she bound her soul shall stand. ¹² But if her husband made them null and void in the day that he heard them, then whatever proceeded out of her lips concerning her vows, or concerning the bond of her soul, shall not stand: her husband has made them void; and the LORD will forgive her. ¹³ Every vow, and every binding oath to afflict the soul, her husband may establish it, or her husband may make it void. ¹⁴ But if her husband says nothing to her from day to day, then he establishes all her vows, or all her bonds, which are on her: he has established them, because he says nothing to her on the day that he heard them. ¹⁵ But if he shall make them null and void after that he has heard them, then he shall bear her iniquity." ¹⁶ These are the statutes, which the LORD commanded Moses, between a man and his wife, between a father and his daughter, being in her youth, in her father's house.

⁷ A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are a snare to his soul.

⁴ When you vow a vow to God, do not defer to pay it; for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay that which you vow. ⁵ It is better that you should not vow, than that you should vow and not pay. ⁶ Do not allow your mouth to lead you into sin. Do not protest before the messenger that this was a mistake. Why should God be angry at your voice, and destroy the work of your hands?

⁸ Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. But you say, 'How have we robbed you?' In tithes and offerings. ⁹ You are cursed with the curse; for you rob me, even this whole nation. ¹⁰ Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and test me now in this," says the LORD of hosts, "if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough for.

³³ "Again you have heard that it was said to them of old time, 'Do not make false vows, but fulfill your vows to the Lord.'

⁹ David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said to them, "As the LORD lives, who has redeemed my soul out of all adversity, ¹⁰ when someone told me, 'Look, Saul is dead,' thinking to have brought good news, I took hold of him, and killed him in Ziklag, which was the reward I gave him for his news. ¹¹ How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house on his bed, shall I not now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth?" ¹² David commanded his young men, and they killed them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up beside the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ishbaal, and buried it in the grave of Abner in Hebron.

³¹ He brought out the people who were in it, and put them to work with saws, and iron picks, and iron axes, and to labor at the brick kiln. And he did the same to all the cities of the people of Ammon. David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

⁵ I will silence whoever secretly slanders his neighbor. I won't tolerate one who is haughty and conceited.

⁸ A king who sits on the throne of judgment scatters away all evil with his eyes.

²⁷ For the dill are not threshed with a sharp instrument, neither is a cart wheel turned over the cumin; but the dill is beaten out with a stick, and the cumin with a rod. ²⁸ Bread flour must be ground; so he will not always be threshing it. Although he drives the wheel of his threshing cart over it, his horses do not grind it.

⁷ And God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

⁸ But there is a spirit in man, and the breath of Shaddai gives them understanding.

³⁰ Wounding blows cleanse away evil, and beatings purge the innermost parts.

¹⁵ since they show the work of the law written on their hearts, their conscience bearing witness, and their thoughts either accusing or defending them,

² But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by the manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. ³ Even if our Good News is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing; ⁴ in whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, so they would not see the light of the glorious Good News of Christ, who is the image of God. ⁵ For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your slaves because of Jesus. ⁶ For it is God, who spoke for light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

¹² For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart. ¹³ There is no creature that is hidden from his sight, but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

¹⁹ And by this we will know that we are of the truth, and persuade our heart before him, ²⁰ because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God;

⁷ For the king trusts in the LORD. Through the loving kindness of the Most High, he shall not be moved.

⁷ He shall be enthroned in God's presence forever. Appoint your loving kindness and truth, that they may preserve him.

¹ [A Psalm by David.] I will sing of loving kindness and justice. To you, LORD, I will sing praises.

⁶ By mercy and truth iniquity is atoned for. By the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

⁵ A throne will be established in loving kindness. One will sit on it in truth, in the tent of David, judging, seeking justice, and swift to do righteousness.

³² "'You shall rise up before the gray head, and honor the face of an old man, and you shall fear your God. I am the LORD.

³¹ Gray hair is a crown of glory. It is found in the path of righteousness.

²³ Thus says the LORD, "Do not let the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, do not let the rich man glory in his riches; ²⁴ but let him who boasts boast in this, that he has understanding, and knows me, that I am the LORD who exercises loving kindness, justice, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight," says the LORD.

¹⁴ I have written to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young people, because you are strong, and the word of God remains in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

²⁵ Flog a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke one who has understanding, and he will gain knowledge.

⁹ Therefore, by this the iniquity of Jacob will be forgiven, and this is all the fruit of taking away his sin: that he makes all the stones of the altar as chalk stones that are beaten in pieces, so that the Asherim and the incense altars shall rise no more.

⁵ But he was pierced for our transgressions, and he was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed.

¹⁰ For they indeed, for a few days, disciplined us as seemed good to them; but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness.
