¹ [A Prayer by David.] Hear, LORD, my righteous plea; Give ear to my prayer, that doesn't go out of deceitful lips. ² Let my sentence come forth from your presence. Let your eyes look on equity. ³ You have proved my heart. You have visited me in the night. You have tried me, and found nothing. I have resolved that my mouth shall not disobey. ⁴ As for the works of men, by the word of your lips, I have kept myself from the ways of the violent. ⁵ My steps have held fast to your paths. My feet have not slipped. ⁶ I have called on you, for you will answer me, God. Turn your ear to me. Hear my speech. ⁷ Show your marvelous loving kindness, you who save those who take refuge by your right hand from their enemies. ⁸ Keep me as the apple of your eye. Hide me under the shadow of your wings, ⁹ from the wicked who oppress me, my deadly enemies, who surround me. ¹⁰ They close up their callous hearts. With their mouth they speak proudly. ¹¹ They have tracked me down; suddenly they surround me. They watch closely, crouching down to the ground. ¹² He is like a lion that is greedy of his prey, as it were a young lion lurking in secret places. ¹³ Arise, LORD, confront him. Cast him down. Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword; ¹⁴ from men with your hand, LORD, from men of the world, whose portion is in this life. You fill their womb with treasure. They are satisfied with children, and they leave their wealth to their little ones. ¹⁵ As for me, I shall see your face in righteousness. I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with seeing your form.

¹⁵ Now my eyes shall be open, and my ears attentive, to the prayer that is made in this place.

⁶ Let your ear now be attentive, and your eyes open, that you may listen to the prayer of your servant, which I pray before you at this time, day and night, for the children of Israel your servants while I confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against you. Yes, I and my father's house have sinned.

² Give attention to the voice of my cry, my King and my God; for to you do I pray.

⁸ The LORD administers judgment to the peoples. Judge me, LORD, according to my righteousness, and to my integrity that is in me.

²⁰ The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness. According to the cleanness of my hands has he recompensed me.

⁴⁴ as soon as they hear of me they obey me. Foreigners come cringing to me;

¹ Vindicate me, God, and plead my cause against a faithless nation. Oh, deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man.

² Attend to me, and answer me. I am restless in my complaint, and moan, ³ Because of the voice of the enemy, Because of the oppression of the wicked. For they bring suffering on me. In anger they hold a grudge against me.

¹⁹ But most certainly, God has listened. He has heard the voice of my prayer.

¹² I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and justice for the needy.

¹ [A contemplation by David, when he was in the cave. A Prayer.] I cry with my voice to the LORD. With my voice, I ask the LORD for mercy.

⁶ Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need. Deliver me from my persecutors, for they are stronger than me.

¹⁸ The LORD is near to all those who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.

¹³ And the Lord said, "Because these people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but they have removed their heart far from me. And in vain do they worship me, teaching instructions that are the commandments of humans.

¹⁰ Yet for all this her treacherous sister, Judah, has not returned to me with her whole heart, but only in pretense," says the LORD.

¹⁸ My God, turn your ear, and hear; open your eyes, and see our desolation, and the city which is called by your name. For we do not present our petitions before you for our righteousness, but for your great mercy. ¹⁹ Lord, hear. Lord, forgive. Lord, listen and take action. Do not delay, for your own sake, my God, because your city and your people are called by your name."

⁸ 'These people honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said about him, "Look, a true Israelite in whom there is no deceit."

²¹ Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God;

⁶ And he will make your righteousness go forth as the light, and your justice as the noonday.

³³ The LORD will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.

²⁵ "'Yet you say, "The way of the LORD is not just." Hear now, house of Israel: "Is my way not just? Aren't your ways unjust?"

²⁹ Yet the house of Israel says, "The way of the LORD is not just." "House of Israel, aren't my ways just? Aren't your ways unjust?"

¹⁷ "Yet the children of your people say, 'The way of the LORD is not just': but as for them, their way is not just.

²⁰ Yet you say, 'The way of the LORD is not just.' House of Israel, I will judge every one of you after his ways."

⁶ Since it is a righteous thing with God to repay affliction to those who afflict you, ⁷ and to give relief to you who are afflicted with us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, ⁸ giving vengeance to those who do not know God, and to those who do not obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus, ⁹ who will pay the penalty: everlasting destruction from the face of the Lord and from the glory of his might,

²⁴ Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory in great joy,

¹⁰ Look, this day your eyes have seen how that the LORD had delivered you today into my hand in the cave, but I refused to kill you, and my eye spared you; and I said, 'I will not put forth my hand against my lord; for he is the LORD's anointed.'

¹² May the LORD judge between me and you, and may the LORD avenge me of you; but my hand shall not be on you.

¹¹ The LORD forbid that I should put forth my hand against the LORD's anointed; but now please take the spear that is at his head, and the jar of water, and let us go."

²³ The LORD will render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; because the LORD delivered you into my hand today, and I wouldn't put forth my hand against the LORD's anointed.

¹⁰ But he knows the way that I take. When he has tried me, I shall come forth like gold.

¹⁴ The murderer rises with the light. He kills the poor and needy. In the night he is like a thief.

⁴ if I have rewarded evil to him who was at peace with me, or oppressed my enemy without cause,

⁵ The LORD examines the righteous, but the wicked and the one who loves violence his soul hates.

⁷ I will bless the LORD, who has given me counsel. Yes, my heart instructs me in the night seasons.

² Examine me, LORD, and prove me. Try my heart and my mind.

¹ [For the Chief Musician. For Jeduthun. A Psalm by David.] I said, "I will watch my ways, so that I do not sin with my tongue. I will keep my mouth with a bridle while the wicked is before me."

¹⁷ All this has come on us, yet have we not forgotten you, Neither have we been false to your covenant. ¹⁸ Our heart has not turned back, neither have our steps strayed from your path, ¹⁹ Though you have crushed us in the haunt of jackals, and covered us with the shadow of death. ²⁰ If we have forgotten the name of our God, or spread forth our hands to a strange god; ²¹ won't God search this out? For he knows the secrets of the heart.

¹⁰ For you, God, have tested us. You have refined us, as silver is refined.

¹⁰⁶ I have sworn, and have confirmed it, that I will obey your righteous ordinances.

³ He who guards his mouth guards his soul. One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.

²⁰ In those days, and in that time, says the LORD, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I leave as a remnant."'"

⁶ For they have made ready their heart like an oven, while they lie in wait. Their baker sleeps all the night. In the morning it burns as a flaming fire.

¹ Woe to those who devise iniquity and work evil on their beds. When the morning is light, they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand.

⁹ I will bring the third part into the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will test them like gold is tested. They will call on my name, and I will hear them. I will say, 'It is my people;' and they will say, 'The LORD is my God.'"

² But who can endure the day of his coming? And who will stand when he appears? For he is coming like a refiner's fire, and like launderer's soap.

²³ who, when he had come, and had seen the grace of God, was glad. He exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they should remain true to the Lord.

⁹ A vision appeared to Paul in the night. There was a man of Macedonia standing, begging him, and saying, "Come over into Macedonia and help us."

⁹ The Lord said to Paul in the night by a vision, "Do not be afraid, but speak and do not be silent; ¹⁰ for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many people in this city."

⁴ For I know nothing against myself. Yet I am not justified by this, but he who judges me is the Lord.

¹² For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience, that with pure motives and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God we conducted ourselves in the world, and more abundantly toward you.

² For in many things we all stumble. If anyone does not stumble in word, this one is a perfect person, able to bridle the whole body also.

⁷ that the genuineness of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes even though it is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ—

⁵ And God saw that the wickedness of humankind was great on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

¹¹ The earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.

¹⁶ how much less one who is abominable and corrupt, a man who drinks iniquity like water.

³³ if like Adam I have covered my transgressions, by hiding my iniquity in my heart,

¹ [For the Chief Musician. By David.] The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt. They do abominable works. There is none who does good. ² The LORD looks down from heaven on the descendants of Adam, to see if there are any who are wise, who seek after God. ³ They have all turned away. They have together become corrupt. There is no one who does good, no, not one.

⁹ BET. How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. ¹⁰ With my whole heart, I have sought you. Do not let me wander from your commandments. ¹¹ In my heart I have hidden your word, that I might not sin against you.

¹⁰ For wisdom will enter into your heart. Knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. ¹¹ Discretion will watch over you. Understanding will keep you, ¹² to deliver you from the way of evil, from the men who speak perverse things; ¹³ who forsake the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; ¹⁴ who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the perverseness of evil; ¹⁵ who are crooked in their ways, and wayward in their paths:

⁴ But he answered and said, "It is written, 'Humankind cannot live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.'"

⁷ Jesus said to him, "Again, it is written, 'Do not test the Lord your God.'"

¹⁰ Then Jesus said to him, "Go away, Satan. For it is written, 'You are to worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'"

¹⁷ Sanctify them in the truth. Your word is truth.

³ for you are still fleshly. For insofar as there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly, and living by human standards?

¹⁷ And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the spoken word of God;

¹⁸ Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

² that you no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh for human desires, but for the will of God. ³ For enough time in the past has been spent doing the will of the unbelievers, and having walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, orgies, carousings, and abominable idolatries.

⁸ Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

¹¹ They have over them as king the angel of the abyss. His name in Hebrew is "Abaddon," and in Greek, he has the name "Apollyon."

¹¹ They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony. They did not love their life, even to death.

⁹ He will guard the feet of his faithful ones, but the wicked will be put to silence in darkness. For no man will prevail by strength.

¹¹ My foot has held fast to his steps. I have kept his way, and not turned aside.

³⁶ You have enlarged my steps under me, My feet have not slipped.

¹⁶ For I said, "Do not let them gloat over me, or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips."

¹⁸ Our heart has not turned back, neither have our steps strayed from your path,

¹⁸ When I said, "My foot is slipping." Your loving kindness, LORD, held me up.

¹¹⁶ Uphold me according to your word, that I may live. Let me not be ashamed of my hope. ¹¹⁷ Hold me up, and I will be safe, and will have respect for your statutes continually.

¹³³ Establish my footsteps in your word. Do not let any iniquity have dominion over me.

³ He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber.

⁷ The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul.

²³ LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man who walks to direct his steps.

³ Look, and answer me, LORD, my God. Give light to my eyes, lest I sleep in death; ⁴ Lest my enemy say, "I have prevailed against him," and my adversaries rejoice when I fall.

¹⁶ As for me, I will call on God. The LORD will save me.

¹⁹ But most certainly, God has listened. He has heard the voice of my prayer. ²⁰ Blessed be God, who has not turned away my prayer, nor his loving kindness from me.

⁷ In the day of my trouble I will call on you, for you will answer me.

² Let my prayer enter into your presence. Turn your ear to my cry.

² Because he has turned his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.

¹⁷ Turn your ear, LORD, and hear. Open your eyes, LORD, and look. Hear all of the words of Sennacherib, who has sent to defy the living God.

²⁰ Now therefore, LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you are the LORD, even you only."

¹⁷ Now therefore, our God, listen to the prayer of your servant, and to his petitions, and cause your face to shine on your sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake.

⁶ Your right hand, LORD, is glorious in power. Your right hand, LORD, dashes the enemy in pieces.

⁴⁵ Then David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin: but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. ⁴⁶ Today, the LORD will deliver you into my hand; and I will strike you, and take your head from off you. And I will give your corpse and the corpses of the Philistine army this very day to the birds of the air, and to the wild animals of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, ⁴⁷ and that all this assembly may know that the LORD doesn't save with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our hand." ⁴⁸ It happened, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. ⁴⁹ David put his hand in his bag, took a stone, and slung it, and struck the Philistine in his forehead; and the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth. ⁵⁰ So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and struck the Philistine, and killed him; but there was no sword in the hand of David. ⁵¹ Then David ran, and stood over the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of its sheath, and killed him, and cut off his head therewith. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled. ⁵² The men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued them as far as Gath, and to the gates of Ekron. The wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even to Gath, and to Ekron. ⁵³ The children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they plundered their camp. ⁵⁴ David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armor in his tent. ⁵⁵ When Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the captain of the army, "Abner, whose son is this youth?" Abner said, "As your soul lives, O king, I can't tell." ⁵⁶ The king said, "Inquire whose son the young man is." ⁵⁷ As David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.

²⁸ Please forgive the trespass of your handmaid. For the LORD will certainly make my lord a sure house, because my lord fights the battles of the LORD; and evil shall not be found in you all your days. ²⁹ Though men may rise up to pursue you, and to seek your soul, yet the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD your God. He will sling out the souls of your enemies, as from the hollow of a sling.

²² Whom have you defied and blasphemed? Against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel.

³⁴ 'For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake, and for my servant David's sake.'"

⁹ For the eyes of the LORD run back and forth throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein you have done foolishly; for from now on you shall have wars."

¹¹ But let all those who take refuge in you rejoice. Let them always shout for joy, because you defend them. And let those who love your name be joyful in you. ¹² For you bless the righteous, LORD. You surround him with favor like a shield.

¹² Arise, LORD. God, lift up your hand. Do not forget the helpless. ¹³ Why does the wicked person condemn God, and say in his heart, "You will not seek (an accounting)." ¹⁴ But you do see trouble and grief. You consider it to take it into your hand. You help the victim and the fatherless. ¹⁵ Break the arm of the wicked. As for the evil man, seek out his wickedness until you find none. ¹⁶ The LORD is King forever and ever. The nations have perished from his land.

⁶ Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed. He will answer him from his holy heaven, with a mighty act of deliverance by his right hand.

²¹ Praise be to the LORD, for he has shown me his marvelous loving kindness in a besieged city.

³ For they did not get the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them; but your right hand, and your arm, and the light of your face, because you were favorable to them.

⁵ So that your beloved may be delivered, save with your right hand and answer me.

¹² He did marvelous things in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.

¹⁰ Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

³³ Being therefore exalted by the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this, which you see and hear.

²⁰ The law came in besides, that the trespass might abound; but where sin abounded, grace abounded more exceedingly; ²¹ that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to everlasting life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

³ They sang the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, "Great and marvelous are your works, Lord God of hosts. Righteous and true are your ways, King of the nations.

¹⁰ He found him in a desert land, in the waste howling wilderness. He surrounded him. He cared for him. He kept him as the apple of his eye.

¹² May the LORD repay your work, and a full reward be given you from the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge."

⁷ How precious is your loving kindness, God. The descendants of Adam take refuge under the shadow of your wings.

¹ [For the Chief Musician. To the tune of "Do Not Destroy." A poem by David, when he fled from Saul, in the cave.] Be merciful to me, God, be merciful to me, for my soul takes refuge in you. Yes, in the shadow of your wings, I will take refuge, until disaster has passed.

⁴ I will dwell in your tent forever. I will take refuge in the shelter of your wings. Selah.

⁷ For you have been my help. I will rejoice in the shadow of your wings.

¹ He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of Shaddai.

⁴ He will cover you with his feathers. Under his wings you will take refuge. His truth is an encompassing shield.

² Keep my commandments and live. Guard my teaching as the apple of your eye.

⁸ For thus says the LORD of hosts: 'For honor he has sent me to the nations which plundered you; for he who touches you touches the apple of my eye.

³⁷ "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to her. How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not.

³⁴ "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to her. How often I wanted to gather your children together, like a hen gathers her own brood under her wings, and you refused.

¹¹ Moreover, my father, look, yes, see the skirt of your robe in my hand; for in that I cut off the skirt of your robe, and did not kill you, know and see that there is neither evil nor disobedience in my hand, and I have not sinned against you, though you hunt for my life to take it.

⁹ I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the first,

⁵ let the enemy pursue my soul, and overtake it; yes, let him tread my life down to the earth, and lay my glory in the dust. Selah.

²⁰ In the shelter of your presence you will hide them from the plotting of man. You will keep them secretly in a dwelling away from the strife of tongues.

⁴ Let those who seek after my soul be disappointed and brought to dishonor. Let those who plot my ruin be turned back and confounded.

⁷ For without cause they have hidden their net in a pit for me. Without cause they have dug a pit for my soul.

¹² They reward me evil for good, to the bereaving of my soul.

² Pharaoh said, "Who is the LORD, that I should listen to his voice to let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, and moreover I will not let Israel go."

⁹ The enemy said, 'I will pursue. I will overtake. I will divide the spoil. My desire shall be satisfied on them. I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.'

¹⁵ But Jacob ate his fill. Jeshurun grew fat, and kicked. You have grown fat. You have grown thick. You have become sleek. Then he forsook God who made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

³ "Do not keep speaking proudly. Do not let arrogance come out of your mouth, for the LORD is a God of knowledge. By him actions are weighed.

²⁷ because he has covered his face with his fatness, and gathered fat on his thighs.

³ May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that boasts, ⁴ who have said, "With our tongue we will prevail. Our lips are our own. Who is lord over us?"

¹⁸ Let the lying lips be mute, which speak against the righteous insolently, with pride and contempt.

⁷ Their sin proceeds forth from fatness. Their hearts overflow with imaginations. ⁸ They scoff and speak with malice. In arrogance, they threaten oppression. ⁹ They have set their mouth in the heavens. Their tongue walks through the earth.

⁷⁰ Their heart is as callous as the fat, but I delight in your Law.

⁴ Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scoffing of those who are at ease, with the contempt of the proud.

¹⁰ The heart of this people has grown dull, and their ears sluggish, and they have closed their eyes, otherwise they might see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and turn back, and I would heal them."

¹⁵ For the heart of this people has grown dull, and their ears are sluggish in hearing, and they have closed their eyes, otherwise they might see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and turn back, and I would heal them.'

²⁷ For this people's heart has grown callous. Their ears are dull of hearing. Their eyes they have closed. Lest they should see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and would turn again, and I would heal them.'

¹⁸ For, uttering great swelling words of emptiness, they entice in the lusts of the flesh, by licentiousness, those who actually escape from those who live in error;

⁵ A mouth was given to him speaking proud words and blasphemies. There was given to him authority to act for forty-two months. ⁶ He opened his mouth for blasphemies against God, to blaspheme his name, and his dwelling, those who dwell in heaven.

²⁶ And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain. And David was hurrying to get away for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men surrounded David and his men to take them.

² Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men on the rocks of the wild goats. ³ He came to the sheep pens by the way, where there was a cave; and Saul went in to relieve himself. Now David and his men were abiding in the innermost parts of the cave.

² Then Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph. ³ Saul camped on the hill of Hakilah, which is before Jeshimon, near the road. But David stayed in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.

⁸ He lies in wait near the villages. From ambushes, he murders the innocent. His eyes are secretly set against the helpless. ⁹ He lurks in secret as a lion in his ambush. He lies in wait to catch the helpless. He catches the helpless, when he draws him in his net. ¹⁰ The helpless are crushed. They collapse. They fall under his strength.

¹⁴ The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, to kill those who are upright in the way.

¹⁷ They came around me like water all day long. They completely engulfed me.

¹³ who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet, who motions with his fingers; ¹⁴ in whose heart is perverseness, who devises evil continually, who always sows discord.

² lest they tear apart my soul like a lion, ripping it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.

⁹ He lurks in secret as a lion in his ambush. He lies in wait to catch the helpless. He catches the helpless, when he draws him in his net.

¹³ They open their mouths wide against me, like a lion tearing prey and roaring.

¹⁷ But the Lord stood by me, and strengthened me, that through me the message might be fully proclaimed, and that all the non-Jewish people might hear; and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

⁷ Arise, LORD. Save me, my God. For you slap all my enemies in the face. You break the teeth of the wicked.

⁶ Arise, LORD, in your anger. Lift up yourself against the rage of my adversaries. Awake, my God; you have appointed judgment.

¹¹ God is a righteous judge, yes, a God who has indignation every day. ¹² If a man doesn't relent, he will sharpen his sword; he has bent and strung his bow. ¹³ He has also prepared for himself deadly weapons. He makes ready his flaming arrows.

²⁰ Deliver my soul from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dog.

²³ Wake up. Why do you sleep, Lord? Arise. Do not reject us forever.

²⁶ Rise up to help us. Redeem us for your loving kindness' sake.

¹²⁶ It is time to act, LORD, for they break your Law.

⁵ Alas Assyrian, the rod of my anger, the staff in whose hand is my indignation.

¹⁵ Should an axe brag against him who chops with it? Should a saw exalt itself above him who saws with it? As if a rod should lift those who lift it up, or as if a staff should lift up someone who is not wood.

⁵ They come from a far country, from the uttermost part of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.

²⁶ Have you not heard how I have done it long ago, and formed it in ancient times? Now I have brought it to pass, that it should be yours to destroy fortified cities, turning them into ruinous heaps.

⁹ Awake, awake, put on strength, arm of the LORD; awake, as in the days of old, the generations of ancient times. Isn't it you who cut Rahab in pieces, who pierced the monster?

¹² Aren't you from everlasting, LORD my God, my Holy One? We will not die. LORD, you have appointed him for judgment. You, Rock, have established him to punish.

²⁸ to do whatever your hand and your council foreordained to happen.

⁶ The tents of robbers prosper. Those who provoke God are secure, who carry their god in their hands.

⁹ Who doesn't know that in all these, the hand of the LORD has done this,

⁷ "Why do the wicked live, become old, yes, and grow mighty in power? ⁸ Their child is established with them in their sight, their offspring before their eyes. ⁹ Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them. ¹⁰ Their bulls breed without fail. Their cows calve, and do not miscarry. ¹¹ They send forth their little ones like a flock. Their children dance. ¹² They sing to the tambourine and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the pipe. ¹³ They spend their days in prosperity. In an instant they go down to Sheol. ¹⁴ They tell God, 'Depart from us, for we do not want to know about your ways. ¹⁵ What is Shaddai, that we should serve him? What profit should we have, if we pray to him?'

²¹ For what does he care for his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off?

¹⁸ Yet he filled their houses with good things, but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

¹⁴ If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword. His offspring shall not be satisfied with bread. ¹⁵ Those who remain of him shall be buried in death. His widows shall make no lamentation. ¹⁶ Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare clothing as the clay; ¹⁷ he may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.

⁶ "Surely a person goes about like a shadow. Surely he heaps up vain things of wealth, and doesn't know who shall gather them.

¹⁷ For when he dies he shall carry nothing away. His glory shall not descend after him. ¹⁸ Though while he lived he blessed his soul—and men praise you when you do well for yourself— ¹⁹ he shall go to the generation of his fathers. They shall never see the light.

³ For I was envious of the arrogant, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. ⁴ For there are no struggles in their death, but their strength is firm. ⁵ They are free from burdens of men, neither are they plagued like other men. ⁶ Therefore pride is like a chain around their neck. Violence covers them like a garment. ⁷ Their sin proceeds forth from fatness. Their hearts overflow with imaginations.

¹² Look, these are the wicked. Being always at ease, they increase in riches.

⁴ If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures:

⁴⁴ "The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found, and hid. In his joy, he goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field.

¹⁹ I will tell my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take your ease, eat, drink, be merry."' ²⁰ "But God said to him, 'You foolish one, tonight your soul is required of you. The things which you have prepared—whose will they be?' ²¹ So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

⁸ "His lord commended the dishonest manager for his shrewdness, for the people of this age are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the people of light.

²⁵ "But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that you, in your lifetime, received your good things, and Lazarus, in like manner, bad things. But now here he is comforted and you are in anguish.

²⁷ "He said, 'I ask you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house; ²⁸ for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, so they won't also come into this place of torment.'

²³ He said to them, "You are from beneath. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world.

¹⁹ If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, since I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

¹⁴ I have given them your word. The world hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

⁵ You have lived delicately on the earth, and taken your pleasure. You have nourished your hearts in a day of slaughter.

⁴ You are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world. ⁵ They are of the world. Therefore they speak of the world, and the world hears them.

²⁶ And God said, "Let us make humankind in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the flying creatures of the sky, and over the tame animals, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creature that crawls on the earth." And it was so. ²⁷ And God created humankind in his own image. In God's image he created him; male and female he created them.

⁸ With him I will speak mouth to mouth, even openly, and not in riddles; and he shall see the LORD's form. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant, against Moses?"

¹⁵ If it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

¹² so man lies down and doesn't rise. Until the heavens are no more, they shall not awake, nor be roused out of their sleep.

²⁶ After my skin is destroyed, then in my flesh shall I see God, ²⁷ Whom I, even I, shall see on my side. My eyes shall see, and not as a stranger. My heart is consumed within me.

⁶ Many say, "Who will show us any good?" LORD, lift up the light of your face upon us. ⁷ You have put gladness in my heart, more than when their grain and wine and oil abound.

⁷ But as for me, in the abundance of your loving kindness I will enter into your house. I will bow toward your holy temple in reverence of you.

⁷ For the LORD is righteous. He loves righteousness. The upright shall see his face.

¹¹ You make known to me the path of life. In your presence is fullness of joy. In your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.

⁸ They shall be abundantly satisfied with the abundance of your house. You will make them drink of the river of your pleasures. ⁹ For with you is the spring of life. In your light shall we see light.

¹⁴ They are appointed as a flock for Sheol. Death shall be their shepherd. The upright shall have dominion over them in the morning. Their beauty shall decay in Sheol, far from their mansion.

⁴ Blessed is the one you choose and bring near, that he may dwell in your courts. We will be filled with the goodness of your house, your holy temple.

¹¹¹ I have taken your testimonies as a heritage forever, for they are the joy of my heart.

¹⁹ Your dead shall live; my dead bodies shall rise. Awake and shout for joy, you who dwell in the dust; for your dew is like the dew of the dawn, and the earth shall bring forth the departed spirits.

⁶ Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they will be filled.

⁵² The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; ⁵³ and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection, they entered into the holy city and appeared to many.

¹⁸ But we all, with unveiled face looking as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord, the Spirit.

²¹ who will transform our lowly body into the likeness of his glorious body, according to the power by which he is able even to subject all things to himself.

² Beloved, now we are children of God, and it is not yet revealed what we will be. We know that, when he is revealed, we will be like him; for we will see him just as he is. ³ Everyone who has this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure.

¹⁶ They will hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither will the sun beat on them, nor any heat; ¹⁷ for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne shepherds them, and leads them to springs of waters of life. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."

³ I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Look, the tabernacle of God is with humans, and he will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ⁴ And he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, nor will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the first things have passed away."

²³ The city has no need for the sun, neither of the moon, to shine, for the very glory of God illuminated it, and its lamp is the Lamb.
