¹² They forsook Jehovah God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt. They followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them. They bowed to them and provoked Jehovah to anger. ¹³ They forsook Jehovah and served Baal and Ashtaroth.

He causes your enemies to rejoice. He lifted up the horn (power) of your adversaries.

¹⁵ »Get away! Unclean!« They were cried out to them, »Away! Away! Let no one touch.« They went away in flight and wandering, men said among the nations, »There is no further resting-place for them.«

²³ ‘»You will be comforted when you see how they live. Then you will know that everything I have done was done for a reason,’ declares the Lord Jehovah.’«

¹⁷ »Son of man, when the people of Israel lived in their land, they dishonored it by the way they lived and by everything they did. Their ways were as unclean as a woman's menstrual period. ¹⁸ »Therefore I poured out my fury on them because they poured out blood on the land and they dishonored the land with their idols. ¹⁹ »I forced them into other nations. They became scattered among the nations. I judged them based on the way that they lived and based on everything that they had done. ²⁰ »Wherever they went among the nations, they dishonored my holy name. People said about them: ‘These are Jehovah’s people, yet they had to leave his land.’
