⁴ This is the account of when Jehovah (YHWH) God created the heavens and the earth.

¹ This is the written genealogy of Adam. When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God.

⁹ This is the ACCOUNT OF NOAH. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time. He walked with God.

¹ God blessed Noah and his sons. He said: »Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth.

⁷ »You should be fruitful and increase in number. Multiply (increase) on the earth.«

¹⁹ These were the three sons of Noah, and from them came the people who were scattered over the earth.

¹ The list of ancestors of Jesus Christ, descendant of David and Abraham:

¹⁵ »‘You will come from your place out of the remote parts of the north, you and many nations with you, all of them riding on horses, a great assembly and a mighty army.

¹ »The Lord Jehovah says: ‘Son of man, denounce Gog, the chief ruler of the nations of Meshech and Tubal. »Tell him that I am his enemy.

⁸ Satan will go out to deceive the nations that are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle. The number of these is as the sand of the sea (too great to count).

²⁷ Raise your battle flag throughout the world. Blow the ram's horn among the nations. Prepare nations to attack Babylon. Tell the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz to attack it. Appoint a commander to lead the attack. Bring up horses like a swarm of locusts.

¹ Wail, O ships of Tarshish! For Tyre is destroyed and left without house or harbor. From the land of Cyprus (Kittim) word has come to them.

¹² He said: »You will exult no more, O crushed virgin daughter of Sidon. Arise, pass over to Cyprus; even there you will find no rest.«

²⁵ »‘»The ships of Tarshish were the carriers for your merchandise. And you were filled and were very glorious in the heart of the seas.

³⁰ »For ships of Kittim will come against him. He will be grieved and will return. He will have indignation against the holy covenant and will do what he pleases. He will even return, and show favor to those who forsake the holy covenant.

¹ The entire world had one language and common words. ² As men moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar (Babylon) and settled there. ³ They said to each other: »Let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.« They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. ⁴ Then they said: »Let us build ourselves a city, with a lofty tower that reaches into space, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth.« ⁵ But Jehovah came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building. ⁶ Jehovah said: »If they become one people speaking the same language, nothing will be impossible for them. They have begun to do this. ⁷ »Let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.« ⁸ Jehovah scattered them from there over all the earth. They stopped building the city. ⁹ That is why it was called Babel (confusion) because Jehovah confused the language of the whole world. Jehovah scattered them from there over the face of the whole earth.

¹⁰ The kings of Tarshish and of the isles will bring tribute (presents). The kings of Sheba and Seba will offer gifts.

¹⁵ Therefore in the east give glory to Jehovah. Exalt the name of Jehovah the God of Israel, in the islands of the sea.

¹⁵ Truly the nations are like a drop in a bucket! They are regarded as dust on the scales! He weighs the islands as though they were fine dust.

⁵ The islands have seen it and fear. The ends of the earth tremble. They approach and come forward.

⁴ He will not lose hope or courage. He will establish justice on the earth. Distant lands eagerly wait for his law.

¹⁰ Sing a new song to Jehovah. Sing his praise, all the world! Praise him, you that sail the sea. Praise him, all creatures of the sea! Sing, distant lands and all who live there!

¹ Listen to this, you islands! Pay attention you people far away. Jehovah chose me long before I was born. He recorded my name while I was in my mother’s womb.

⁵ »My righteousness is near. My salvation is on the way and my arm (power) will bring justice to the nations. The islands will look to me and wait in hope for my arm (power).

¹⁸ He will pay them back according to their deeds. He will pay back his opponents with wrath and punish his enemies. He will pay back the people who live on the coastlands.

⁹ »Surely the coastlands wait with hope for me. The ships from Tarshish are the first to bring your children from far away. They bring their silver and their gold with them to honor the name of Jehovah your God, the Holy One of Israel, because he has honored you.

¹⁰ »Go over to the coasts of Cyprus (Kittim), and see. Send someone to Kedar and observe closely. See if there has ever been such a thing as this.

³⁷ So Sennacherib king of Assyria broke camp and withdrew. He returned to Nineveh and stayed there.

²³ »‘»Haran, Canneh, Eden, the traders of Sheba, Asshur and Chilmad traded with you.

²² »‘Assyria is there with its whole army. The graves of its soldiers are all around it. All of its soldiers are dead. They have been killed in battle.

³ »Assyria will not save us and we will not ride on horses. We will not say again: Our god, to the work of our hands. In you the orphan finds mercy.

² »Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and proclaim against her that Jehovah has seen their terrible wickedness.«

¹ The word of Jehovah came to Jonah a second time: ² »Arise and go to the great city, Nineveh. Proclaim to it the proclamation I give you.« ³ So Jonah arose, and went to Nineveh, according to the word of Jehovah. Nineveh was a very important and large city, a three days' walk [from one side to the other]. ⁴ Jonah began to enter into the city, a day's journey walking, and he shouted: »Nineveh will be overthrown in Forty days.« ⁵ The people of Nineveh believed God and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. ⁶ The news reached the king of Nineveh. He left his throne, and took off his robe and covered himself with sackcloth. Then he sat in ashes. ⁷ He made proclamation and published it in Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying: »Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything; let them not eat, nor drink water. ⁸ »Let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and beast. Let them sincerely call on God! Let them turn away each one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in his hands. ⁹ »Who knows whether God will turn back and change his mind, and turn away from his fierce anger that we will not perish?« ¹⁰ God saw their works! That they turned from their evil way. God turned back from the deed that he said he would do to them. He did not do it.

¹ The oracle of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite:

⁸ Nineveh has been from of old like a pool of water: yet they flee away. »Stand, stand,« they cry; but none looks back.

⁷ »And it will come about that all who see you will go in flight from you and say, Nineveh is devastated: who will weep for her? Where will I get comforters for her?

¹⁸ On that day Jehovah made a covenant with Abram. He saw the angels of God going up and coming down on it. ¹³ Jehovah was standing above the stairway. He proclaimed: »I am Jehovah, the God of your grandfather Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give the land on which you are lying to you and your descendants. ¹⁴ »Your descendants will be like the dust on the earth. You will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. Every family on earth will be blessed through you and through your descendants. ¹⁵ »Remember, I am with you. I will watch over you wherever you go. I will also bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I do what I have promised you.« ¹⁶ Jacob woke up from his sleep and said: »Truly, Jehovah is in this place, and I did not know it!« ¹⁷ He was filled with reverence. He said: »This is an awesome place! Certainly, this is the house of God and the gateway to the heavens!« ¹⁸ Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had under his head. He set it up as a marker and poured oil on top of it. ¹⁹ He named that place Bethel (House of God). Previously, the name of the city was Luz. ²⁰ Jacob made a vow. He said: »If God will be with me and will watch over me on my trip and give me food to eat and clothes to wear,

⁸ »I have come down to rescue them from the Egyptians. I will bring my people out of Egypt into a country where there is good land, rich with milk and honey. I will give them the land where the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites now live.

These will be the four borders of your land.« ¹³ Moses said to the Israelites: »This is the land you will receive by drawing lots. This is the land that Jehovah has assigned to the nine and one-half tribes. ¹⁴ »The tribes of Reuben and Gad and the eastern half of Manasseh have received their property, divided according to their families, ¹⁵ on the eastern side of the Jordan, opposite Jericho.«

⁸ Jehovah delivered them into the hand of Israel, who killed them. They chased them unto great Zidon, and to Misrephoth-maim, and to the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they killed them. They did not leave any survivor remain.

¹ In the days of King Amraphel of Shinar, King Arioch of Ellasar, King Chedorlaomer of Elam, and King Tidal of Goiim, ² these four kings made war with King Bera of Sodom, King Birsha of Gomorrah, King Shinab of Admah, King Shemeber of Zeboiim, and the king of Zoar. ³ These joined forces in the Valley of Siddim at the Dead Sea. ⁴ They served Chedorlaomer for twelve years.
