³ God came from Teman. He is the Holy One from Mount Paran. His glory covered the heavens! The earth is full of his praise.

²¹ He lived in the wilderness of Paran. His mother took a wife for him from the land of Egypt.

¹¹ The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.

¹⁶ On the morning of the third day there were thunder and lightning flashes and a thick cloud upon the mountain. A very loud trumpet sounded. It caused all the people in the camp to tremble. ¹⁷ Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God. They stood at the foot of the mountain. ¹⁸ Mount Sinai was all in smoke because Jehovah descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace. The whole mountain quaked violently! ¹⁹ The sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder. Moses spoke and God answered him with thunder. ²⁰ Jehovah descended on the top of Mount Sinai. Jehovah called Moses to the top of the mountain. Moses climbed to the peak of Mount Sinai.

¹⁸ The people heard the thunder and the trumpet blast. They saw the lightning and the smoking mountain. They trembled with fear and stood at a distance.

¹⁵ Moses went up to the mountain. The cloud covered the mountain. ¹⁶ The glory of Jehovah rested on Mount Sinai. The cloud covered it for six days. God called to Moses on the seventh day. He spoke from inside the cloud. ¹⁷ To the eyes of the Israelites the appearance of the glory of Jehovah was like a consuming fire on the top of the mountain.

¹² At last the Israelites started on their journey out of the Sinai Desert. The cloud came to rest in the wilderness of Paran.

²⁴ »They said: ‘Today Jehovah our God has shown us how powerful and glorious he is. He spoke to us from the fire. We learned that people could live, even though God speaks to them.

² »Jehovah came from Mount Sinai. He rose like the sun over Edom and shone on his people from Mount Paran. Ten thousand angels were with him. A flaming fire was at his right hand.

⁴ »Jehovah, when you left the mountains of Seir, when you came out of Edom, the earth shook, and rain fell from the sky. Yes, water poured out of the clouds. ⁵ »The mountains shook before Jehovah of Sinai, before Jehovah, the God of Israel.

¹ Samuel died. All Israel gathered to mourn him. They buried him at his home in Ramah. Then David went to the desert of Paran.

¹⁶ Jehovah has revealed himself by his righteous judgments. The wicked are trapped by their deeds.

²⁰ Strike them with terror, O Jehovah. Let the nations know that they are only mortal.

² Many are saying about me: »Even with God on his side, he will not have victory (deliverance) (salvation).«

⁴ I call aloud to Jehovah. He answers me from his holy mountain.

⁴ Tremble, stand in awe and do not sin! Meditate in your heart upon your bed, and keep silent.

¹⁰ Like (according to) your name, O God, your praise reaches to the ends of the earth. Your right hand is filled with righteousness.

⁷ O God, when you went before your people, when you march through the wilderness, ⁸ The earth shook, the heavens also dropped at the presence of God: Sinai was moved at the presence of God, the God of Israel.

¹⁷ The chariots of God are myriads in number, thousands upon thousands. Jehovah is among them. The God of Sinai is in his holy place.

³ The Red Sea looked at this and ran away. The Jordan River turned back. ⁴ The mountains jumped like rams. The hills jumped like lambs. ⁵ Red Sea, why did you run away? Jordan River, what made you turn back? ⁶ Mountains, what made you jump like rams? Hills, what made you jump like lambs? ⁷ Earth, tremble and shake in the presence of Jehovah, in the presence of the God of Jacob.

³ They called to one another: »Holy, holy, holy is Jehovah of Hosts. All the earth is full of his glory.«

³ When you did awe-inspiring things that we did not expect, you came down and the mountains quaked at your presence.

⁷ This is what Jehovah of Hosts says about Edom: »Is there no longer any wisdom in Teman? Has wisdom disappeared from your people? Has their wisdom vanished?

¹² »I will send a fire upon Teman, and it will devour the palaces of Bozrah.«

⁹ »Your mighty men, O Teman, will be dismayed, to the end that every one may be destroyed (removed) from the mountain of Esau by slaughter.

⁷ The ministry of death was written and engraved on stones. Glory came with it so that the children of Israel could not look steadfastly upon the face of Moses. And this glory was passing away. ⁸ How shall the ministry of the Spirit not be with glory? ⁹ For if the ministry of condemnation has glory then the ministry of righteousness would exceed in glory. ¹⁰ Even what was glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the greater glory. ¹¹ If that which passes away was with glory, that which remains is even more glorious.

¹³ I heard every creature in heaven and on earth. I also heard those under the earth, in the sea, and all that are in them. They said: »Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power, be to him who sits upon the throne, and to the Lamb forever and ever.« ¹⁴ The four living creatures said: »Amen« and the twenty-four elders fell down and worshipped.
