¹⁴ »They say to God: ‘Leave us alone! We do not desire to know your ways.’

¹⁷ »They said to God: ‘Leave us alone.’ They asked: ‘What can the Almighty do to us?’

⁴ In his arrogant attitude he does not search for God. His faulty reasoning concludes: »There is no God.«

¹¹ He says in his heart (to himself): »God has forgotten. He has hidden his face. He will never see it!«

²² »How long, you simple (stupid) (foolish) ones, will you love simplicity (foolishness) (stupidity)? The scoffers delight in scoffing. Fools hate knowledge!

²⁹ »You have no use for knowledge and you refuse to respect Jehovah.

⁷ Respect for Jehovah (YHWH) is the beginning of knowledge (truth) (understanding) (wisdom). Fools despise wisdom and instruction.

¹⁵ He brings them all up with the hook. He gathers them away in his net. He gladly gathers them and rejoices.

²⁸ When he saw Jesus he cried out and fell down in front of him. He shouted in a loud voice: »What have I to do with you, Jesus, you Son of the Most High God? I implore you do not torment me.«

³⁷ The people of the country of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to depart. They were very much afraid. So he boarded a boat and left.

¹⁹ »This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world. People loved the darkness rather than the light for their works were evil. ²⁰ »Every one who does evil hates the light. He does not come to the light because his works would be reproved.

²⁸ They did not like to retain God in their knowledge, so God gave them over to a reprobate (depraved) mind, to do things that are not fitting.

⁷ This is because the mind of the flesh is hostile toward God. It is not subject to the law of God for it cannot be.

¹⁰ He will use every kind of wicked deceit on those who will perish. They will perish because they did not welcome and love the truth so as to be saved. ¹¹ So God dispatches the power of deceit (error) to work in them so that they are allowed to believe what is false. ¹² Then everyone who did not believe the truth, but was delighted with wickedness, will be condemned.

³ For the time will come when they will not endure the sound doctrine. Having their ears tickled, they will accumulate teachers who follow after their own lusts. ⁴ They will turn their ears away from the truth, and turn aside to myths (fiction).
