²⁷ In the middle of the day, Elijah made sport of them, saying: »Give louder cries, for he is a god; he may be deep in thought. He may have gone away for some purpose. Perhaps he is on a journey. By chance he is sleeping and must be woke up.«

³ »Look, you have instructed many people. When hands were weak, you made them strong. ⁴ »When someone stumbled, you lifted him up with your words. When knees were weak, you gave them strength.

⁹ Do not reject me when I am old or abandon me when I lose my strength.

³ Strengthen the tired hands and the knees that tremble with weakness. ⁴ Tell the discouraged ones with anxious heart: »Be strong and do not be afraid! God is coming to your rescue! He is coming to punish your enemies.«

¹⁴ Whom did Jehovah consult to enlighten him? Who taught him the right way? Who was it that taught him knowledge or showed him the path of understanding?

⁵ The islands have seen it and fear. The ends of the earth tremble. They approach and come forward. ⁶ Each helps the other and says to his brother: »Be strong!« ⁷ The craftsman encourages the goldsmith. He who smooths with the hammer spurs on him who strikes the anvil. He says of the welding: It is good. He nails down the idol so it will not topple.

¹³ »Do I have any power to help myself, now that success has been driven from me?

³ »I have a mind as well as you! I am not inferior to you! Who does not know all these things?

⁵ »If only you would be altogether silent! For you, that would be wisdom.

⁸ »Have you heard God’s council? Do you limit wisdom to yourself? ⁹ »What do you know that we do not know? What insights do you have that we do not have? ¹⁰ »The gray-haired and the aged are on our side, men even older than your father.

¹⁰ »But now, you must come and try again! I will not find one wise man among you.

¹¹ »Listen! I waited for your words. I listened for your wise sayings, while you determined what to say. ¹² »I gave you my attention, but there was in fact no one that disproved Job, no one among you that answered his words. ¹³ »Yet do not say: ‘We have found wisdom; God may vanquish him, not a human.’

³ »My words come from an upright heart! My lips sincerely speak what I know.

³³ »But if not, then listen to me. Be silent, and I will teach you wisdom.

² »Who is this that conceals (hides) counsel using words without knowledge?

¹ ([Sons of Korah]) Listen to this, all you people. Open your ears, all who live in the world. ² Listen you common people and important ones, rich people and poor ones. ³ My mouth will speak wisdom. I have carefully considered understanding (insights). ⁴ I will incline my ear (turn my attention) to a proverb. I will explain my riddle with the music of a harp.

¹⁵ All day long my mouth will tell of your righteousness and of your salvation. I do not know the number. ¹⁶ I will come with the mighty deeds of Jehovah God. I will make mention of your righteousness, yours alone. ¹⁷ O God, You taught me from my youth, and I still declare your wondrous deeds. ¹⁸ And even when I am old and gray, O God, do not forsake me, until I declare your strength to this generation, your power to all who are to come.

⁶ »Listen for I speak of excellent things. The truth comes from my lips. ⁷ »My mouth will speak truth! Wickedness is an abomination to my lips. ⁸ »All my speech is righteous. Nothing crooked or perverse comes from my mouth. ⁹ »They are all straight talk to him who understands. It is proper to those who find knowledge.

²⁰ »I did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and teaching you publicly, and from house to house.

²⁷ »I did not shrink from telling you the entire will of God.

²³ Micaiah concluded: This is what has happened. Jehovah made these prophets of yours lie to you. He has decreed that you will meet with disaster! ²⁴ The prophet Zedekiah went to Micaiah and slapped his face. He asked: »Since when did Jehovah’s spirit leave me and speak to you?«

³ »I hear a rebuke that dishonors me. Therefore my understanding inspires me to reply.

¹⁸ »For I am full of words but the spirit within me constrains me.

⁷ Then the dust will return to the earth as it was. The spirit (life) will return to God who gave it.

³ I want you to understand that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed. And no person can say, »Jesus is the Lord,« except by the Holy Spirit.

¹ Beloved, do not believe every spirit. Test the spirits to see whether they are from God. This is because many false prophets have gone out into the world. ² Here is how you know the Spirit of God, every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ came in the flesh is from God. ³ Every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist that you heard was coming and now it is already in the world.

¹³ I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. ¹⁴ They are demonic spirits, working signs, which go to the kings of the earth, of the whole world. They gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

⁴ The NEPHILIM were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God had sexual intercourse with the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.

¹ GOD CONTINUES TO QUESTION JOB: ² »Can you catch Leviathan with a fishhook or tie his tongue down with a rope? ³ »Can you put a rope through his snout or put a hook through his jaws? ⁴ »Will he beg you to let him go? Will he plead with you for mercy? ⁵ »Will he make an agreement with you and promise to serve you forever? ⁶ »Will you tie him like a pet bird, like something to amuse your servant women? ⁷ »Will fishermen bargain over him? Will merchants cut him up to sell? ⁸ »Can you fill his hide with fishing spears or pierce his head with a harpoon? ⁹ »Indeed, hope of overcoming him is false. Should you be overwhelmed at the sight of him? ¹⁰ »No one is as fierce that he would dare stir him up. Who then is able to stand against me? ¹¹ »Who has preceded me that I should pay him? Everything under heaven is mine. ¹² »I will not conceal his limbs, his mighty power, or his graceful proportions. ¹³ »Who can remove his outer coat? Who can approach him with a double bridle? ¹⁴ »Who can open the doors of his face, with his terrible teeth all around? ¹⁵ »His rows of scales are his pride, Shut up tightly as a seal. ¹⁶ »One is so near another that no air can come between them. ¹⁷ »They are joined one to another, they stick together and cannot be parted. ¹⁸ »Its sneezes flash forth light, and its eyes are like the eyelids of the dawn. ¹⁹ »From its mouth go flaming torches; sparks of fire leap out. ²⁰ »Out of its nostrils comes smoke, as from a boiling pot and burning rushes. ²¹ »Its breath kindles coals, and a flame comes out of its mouth. ²² »In its neck abides strength, and terror dances before it. ²³ »The folds of its flesh cling together; it is firmly cast and immovable. ²⁴ »Its heart is as hard as stone, as hard as the lower millstone. ²⁵ »When it raises itself up the gods are afraid; at the crashing they are beside themselves. ²⁶ »Though the sword reaches it, it does not avail, nor does the spear, the dart, or the javelin. ²⁷ »It considers iron to be like straw and bronze to be like rotten wood. ²⁸ »An arrow will not make it run away. It stretches out like a threshing sledge on the mud. ³¹ »It makes the deep sea boil like a pot. It stirs up the ocean like a boiling kettle. ³² »It leaves a shining path behind it so that the sea appears to have silvery hair. ³³ »Nothing on land can compare to it. It was made fearless. ³⁴ »It looks down on all high things. It is king of everyone who is arrogant.

¹⁰ Will you perform miracles for those who are dead? Will the dead rise and give thanks to you?

²⁵ The sea is so big and wide with many creatures, living things both large and small. ²⁶ Ships sail on it, and Leviathan (great sea animal), which you made, plays in it.

³ »Say this, ‘The Lord Jehovah says: »I am against you Pharaoh, king of Egypt, the great monster (Egypt) (Psalm 74:13,14) that lies in the midst of his rivers. You have said: ‘My Nile is mine! I have made it!’« ⁴ »I will put hooks in your jaws and make the fish of your rivers cling to your scales. I will bring you up out of the midst of your rivers. All the fish of your rivers will cling to your scales. ⁵ »I will abandon you to the wilderness and all the fish of your rivers. You will fall on the open field. You will not be brought together or gathered. I have given you for food to the beasts of the earth and to the birds of the sky.

⁸ »They are higher than the heavens. What can you do? They are deeper than the depths of the grave. What can you know?

²² »Destruction and Death say: ‘We heard a rumor about it.’

¹¹ »Who has preceded me that I should pay him? Everything under heaven is mine.

⁸ If I ascend to heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in the grave, behold, you are there.

¹¹ If I say: »Certainly the darkness will overwhelm me!« Then the light around me will be night.

¹¹ The grave and destruction are before (in front of) (in the presence of) Jehovah. How much more in the hearts of men?

⁹ »The grave below wakes up to meet you when you come. It wakes up those who are dead, all who were leaders on earth. It raises all who were kings of the nations from their thrones.

² »Though they dig into the grave my hand will take them. Though they climb to heaven I will bring them down.

¹³ Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. All things are uncovered and laid bare before him. We must account to him. (Romans 2:16; 14:12)

¹ In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. ² The earth was without form and empty. Darkness covered the deep water. The Spirit of God hovered over the waters.

⁸ »He alone spreads out the heavens and treads on the waves of the sea.

² For He has ordained it upon the seas and decreed it upon the rivers.

² You cover yourself with light as with a cloak. You stretch out clouds in the sky like a curtain. ³ You lay the beams of your upper chambers in the waters. You make the clouds your chariot. You walk upon the wings of the wind. ⁴ You make the winds your messengers, the flaming fire your ministers. ⁵ You established the earth upon its foundations, so that it will not be unstable forever.

²³ »I was made from long ago, before the earth began. ²⁴ »When there were no depths or fountains abounding with water, I was brought forth. ²⁵ »Before the mountains were settled, before the hills I was brought forth: ²⁶ »He had not made the earth or the fields or the highest part of the dust of the world. ²⁷ »When he prepared the heavens, I was there. When he circled the face of the deep:

²² He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in.

²⁶ »Lift your eyes and look to the heavens. Who created all these? The being that brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name created all these! Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.

⁵ God created the heavens and stretched them out. He fashioned the earth and all that lives there. He gave life and breath to all its people. And now Jehovah God says to his servant:

⁶ Then God said: »Let there be an expanse in the middle of the waters. Let it separate the waters from the waters.« ⁷ God made the expanse. He separated the waters that were below the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. It was so.

²⁹ »Who can understand how he spreads out the clouds, how he thunders from his pavilion?

¹¹ »He loads the thick cloud with moisture and disperses with lighting. ¹² »They swirl about on the face of the inhabited earth. They do whatever God commands. ¹³ »He causes it to happen for correction, for his land and for his loving kindness. ¹⁴ »Listen to this, O Job, Stand and consider the wonders of God. ¹⁵ »Do you know how God establishes them? Do you know how he makes the lightning? ¹⁶ »Do you know about the layers of thick clouds, the wonders of one perfect in knowledge?

⁹ »When I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness,

³⁷ »Who has the wisdom to count the clouds? Who can tip over the water jars of the heavens?

¹⁰ He rode on a cherub and he flew. Yes he did soar on the wings of the wind. ¹¹ He made the darkness his hiding place, his pavilion round about, the dark rain clouds his covering.

⁷ He causes the vapors to rise from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning for the rain. He brings wind out of his storehouses.

⁴ Who ascended up into heaven, or descended? Who gathered the wind in his hands? Who bound the waters in a garment? Who established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son's name, if you can tell me?

⁶ »It will turn into a desert, neither pruned nor cultivated. It will be covered with thorns and briars. I will command the clouds not to send rain.«

¹³ He speaks, and the water in the sky produces a storm. He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning flash with the rain. He brings wind out of his storehouses.

²¹ But the people continued to stand at a distance. Only Moses went near the dark cloud where God was.

²⁰ But he said: »You cannot see my face, because no one may see me and live.« ²¹ Then Jehovah said: »Look, there is a place near me. Stand by this rocky cliff. ²² »When my glory passes by, I will put you in a crevice in the cliff and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. ²³ »Then I will take my hand away, and you will see my back, but my face must not be seen.«

³ »No man may come with you or even be seen anywhere on the mountain. Even the flocks and herds may not graze in front of this mountain.«

¹² Solomon prayed: »Jehovah, you have placed the sun in the sky, yet you have chosen to live in clouds and darkness.

¹⁴ »‘Thick clouds enwrap him, so that he does not see, and he walks on the dome of the heavens.’«

² Clouds, gloom and darkness are all around Him. Righteousness and judgment are the foundation of his throne.

³ God came from Teman. He is the Holy One from Mount Paran. His glory covered the heavens! The earth is full of his praise. ⁴ His brightness is like the sun. He has rays of power coming from his hand! There was protection in his power. ⁵ Before him go the pestilence, and fiery bolts go forth at his feet.

¹⁶ Only God has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light. No man has seen him, nor can see him. To him be honor and power forever. Amen.

²² »As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, will never cease.«

⁸ »Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb? ⁹ »When I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness, ¹⁰ when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place, ¹¹ when I said: ‘This far you may come and no farther’; here is where your proud waves halt?

⁷ He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap. He puts the ocean depth in his storehouses.

⁶ You covered it with the deep like a garment. The waters stood above the mountains. ⁷ They fled at your rebuke. At the sound of your thunder they hurried away. ⁸ The mountains rose and the valleys sank down to the place you appointed for them. ⁹ You set a boundary that they may not go beyond. They will not return to cover the earth.

²⁹ »When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his command, when he appointed the foundations of the earth,

⁹ »To me this is like the days of Noah, when I swore that the waters of Noah would never again cover the earth. So now I have sworn not to be angry with you, never to rebuke you again. ¹⁰ »Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,« says Jehovah. »I have compassion on you.«

²² »Do you not reverence (respect) me?« Asks Jehovah. »Do you not tremble [with awe] in my presence? I made the sand a boundary for the sea, a permanent barrier it cannot cross. Although the waves toss continuously, they cannot break through. Although they roar, they cannot cross it.

⁸ »He raises the poor from the dust. He lifts up the needy from the dunghill to set them among the princes. He causes them to inherit a throne of glory (honor). The pillars of the earth are Jehovah’s. He sets the world on them.

¹⁵ »If God places no trust in his holy ones, if even the heavens are not pure in his eyes,

⁷ Then the earth shook and quaked. Even the foundations of the mountains trembled. They shook violently because he was angry.

²¹ »Say to Zerubbabel, the governor of Judah: I will shake heaven and earth!

²⁶ His voice shook the earth then, but now he has promised: »I will once more shake not only the earth but also heaven.« ²⁷ The words »once more« plainly show that the created things will be shaken and removed, so that the things that cannot be shaken will remain.

¹⁰ The day of Jehovah will come as a thief. The heavens will pass away with a great noise. The elements shall be dissolved with intense heat. And the earth and the works in it will be burned up (destroyed). (Joel 2:31) (Zephaniah 1:14)

¹¹ I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it. From before him the earth and heaven fled away. There was found no place for them.

²¹ Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. Jehovah swept the sea back by a strong east wind all night and turned the sea into dry land. The waters were divided. ²² The Israelites went through the middle of the sea on dry ground. The water stood like a wall on their right and on their left. ²³ The Egyptians pursued them. Pharaoh’s horses, chariots, and cavalry followed them into the sea. ²⁴ Just before dawn, Jehovah looked down from the column of fire and smoke and threw the Egyptian camp into a panic. ²⁵ He made the wheels of their chariots come off. They could hardly move. Then the Egyptians shouted: »Let us get out of here! Jehovah is fighting for Israel! He is against us!« ²⁶ Jehovah then said to Moses: »Hold out your hand over the sea, and the water will flow back over the Egyptians and their chariots and drivers.« ²⁷ Moses held out his hand over the sea. At daybreak the water returned to its normal level. The Egyptians tried to escape from the water. But Jehovah threw them into the sea. ²⁸ The water returned and covered the chariots, the drivers, and all the Egyptian army that had followed the Israelites into the sea. None of them were left. ²⁹ On the other hand, the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on both sides. ³⁰ That day Jehovah saved the people of Israel from the Egyptians. The Israelites saw them lying dead on the seashore. ³¹ The Israelites saw the great power with which Jehovah had defeated the Egyptians. So they stood in awe of Jehovah. They had faith in Jehovah and in his servant Moses.

¹³ »God will not withdraw his anger. The allies of the proud lie thrown down beneath him.

¹³ »To God belong wisdom and power. Counsel and understanding are his.

¹¹ »Unleash the fury of your wrath, look at every proud man and bring him low! ¹² »Look at every proud man and humble him, crush the wicked where they stand.

¹⁰ Jehovah sat enthroned over the flood. Jehovah sits enthroned as king forever.

¹³ You divided the sea by your strength. You broke the heads of the sea monsters (Egypt’s Army) in the waters.

⁹ You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, you still them. ¹⁰ You crushed Rahab like one who is slain. You scattered your enemies with your mighty arm (power).

³ The floods have lifted up, O Jehovah, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their pounding waves. ⁴ Jehovah on high is mightier than the noise of many waters. Yes he is mightier than the mighty waves of the sea.

² Judah became his holy place and Israel became his government. ³ The Red Sea looked at this and ran away. The Jordan River turned back. ⁴ The mountains jumped like rams. The hills jumped like lambs. ⁵ Red Sea, why did you run away? Jordan River, what made you turn back? ⁶ Mountains, what made you jump like rams? Hills, what made you jump like lambs? ⁷ Earth, tremble and shake in the presence of Jehovah, in the presence of the God of Jacob.

¹² All who are proud will be humbled. Jehovah of Hosts will have his day against all who are arrogant and conceited.

⁹ Awake, awake! Clothe yourself with strength, O arm of Jehovah. Awake, as in days gone by, as in generations of old. Was it not you who cut Rahab to pieces, who pierced that monster through?

¹⁵ »I am Jehovah your God, who churns up the sea so that its waves roar. Jehovah of Hosts is his name.

³⁵ Jehovah provides the sun to be a light during the day. He orders the moon and stars to be lights during the night. He stirs up the sea so that its waves roar. His name is Jehovah of Hosts. This is what Jehovah says:

³⁷ »Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, extol and honor the King of heaven. All his works are truth, and his ways justice. He is able to abase (humble) (subdue) those who walk in pride.«

⁶ But he gives more grace. The scripture said, »God resists the proud, but gives grace (loving-kindness) to the humble.«

² The earth was without form and empty. Darkness covered the deep water. The Spirit of God hovered over the waters.

⁶ The heavens were made by the word of Jehovah, and by the breath of his mouth their entire host. ⁷ He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap. He puts the ocean depth in his storehouses.

¹³ You divided the sea by your strength. You broke the heads of the sea monsters (Egypt’s Army) in the waters. ¹⁴ You broke the heads of Leviathan in pieces. You gave him as food to people and desert creatures.

³⁰ You send out your Spirit, and they are created. You renew the face of the earth.

¹ In that day Jehovah will punish with his sword, his fierce, great and powerful sword. He will slay Leviathan the fleeing, coiling serpent, the monster of the sea.

⁹ The great dragon was thrown down, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, who deceives the whole world. He was hurled down to the earth, and his angels with him.

¹⁰ »The adversaries of Jehovah will be broken to pieces. He thunders in the heavens against them. Jehovah will judge the ends of the earth. He will give strength to His king and exalt the horn (power) of His anointed.«

¹² Eliphaz of Teman continued: »I was told something secretly and heard something whispered in my ear.

⁷ »Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty? ⁸ »They are higher than the heavens. What can you do? They are deeper than the depths of the grave. What can you know? ⁹ »Their measure is longer than the earth and wider than the sea.

⁹ »Do you have an arm (power) like God’s? Can your voice thunder like his?

³ The voice of Jehovah is upon the waters. The God of glory thunders, Jehovah is over many waters.

⁶ Knowing this is too wonderful for me! It is too high, I cannot attain to it.

³ Great is Jehovah, and highly to be praised. His greatness is unsearchable (beyond human calculation).

²⁶ »Lift your eyes and look to the heavens. Who created all these? The being that brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name created all these! Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing. ²⁷ »‘Why do you say, O Jacob, and complain, O Israel: ‘My way is hidden from Jehovah! My God disregards my cause?’ ²⁸ »Do you not know? Have you not heard? JEHOVAH IS THE EVERLASTING GOD, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and no one can measure (find out) his understanding. ²⁹ »He gives strength to those who grow tired and increases the strength of those who are weak.

³³ O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments. His ways are beyond human understanding!

⁹ For we know in part and we prophesy in part. ¹⁰ When the perfect comes, the partial (imperfect) (incomplete) will be done away. ¹¹ When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, and reason like a child. When I became an adult I did away with childish things. ¹² For now we see in a mirror dimly, and then we will see face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.
