³⁰ »I will speak no more with you. The prince of the world comes. He has no hold on me!

³⁵ The angel replied: »Holy Spirit would come to you and the power of the Most High will envelope you. Because of this the newborn will be called the Son of God.«

⁵³ »I was with you every day in the temple. Yet you did not lift a hand against me. This is your hour for this power of darkness.«

⁴⁴ He said: »These are my words that I spoke to you, while I was yet with you. All things must be fulfilled. They are things that are written in the Law of Moses, and the Prophets, and the Psalms, concerning me.« ⁴⁵ He opened their minds that they might understand the scriptures. ⁴⁶ He said: »It is written that the Christ should suffer, and rise again from the dead the third day. ⁴⁷ »Repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. ⁴⁸ »You are witnesses of these things. ⁴⁹ »You see I send the promise of my Father upon you. You are to wait in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.«

³¹ »Now judgment is on this world. Now the ruler of this world will be cast out.

¹¹ »And third, of judgment because the prince of this world has been judged. ¹² »I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot endure them now.

³ He presented himself alive to them after his suffering. He gave many convincing proofs. He appeared to them during forty days speaking about the kingdom of God.

⁴ The god of this age (world) (religious, social, political, and economic arrangement) has blinded the minds of unbelievers that the light of the good news of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not shine on them.

²¹ He made the one who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf. That way we might become the righteousness of God in him.

² You once walked according to the course of this world, according to the ruler of the power (authority and jurisdiction) of the air, the spirit that is now active in the sons of disobedience.

¹³ He rescued us from the power of darkness, and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of his love (the Son he dearly loves).

¹² Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in heavenly places.

¹⁵ We do not have a high priest who is not able to sympathize with our infirmities (weaknesses). He was tested in all things like ourselves. Yet he was without sin!

²⁶ Such a high priest as this was suitable for us. He is holy, harmless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and higher than the heavens.

¹⁹ but with precious blood, as of a lamb without spot, even the blood of Christ.

²² He committed no sin and deception was not found in him.

⁵ You know that he appeared to take away sins. There is no sin in him! ⁶ Whoever abides in him does not sin. Whoever sins has not seen him and does not know him. ⁷ My little children let no man deceive you! He who practices righteousness is righteous, even as he [Christ] is righteous. ⁸ He who sins is of the devil. For the devil sinned from the beginning. To this end the Son of God was made known (manifested), that he might destroy the works of the devil.

⁴ You are of God, my little children. You have overcome them because he that is in you is greater than he that is in the world.

⁹ The great dragon was thrown down, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, who deceives the whole world. He was hurled down to the earth, and his angels with him.

² He seized the dragon, the old serpent that is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. ³ He hurled him into the bottomless pit, and shut it and sealed it over him. He could not deceive the nations anymore till the thousand years ended. After that he must be let loose for a little while.

⁷ When the thousand years end, Satan will be let loose out of his prison. ⁸ Satan will go out to deceive the nations that are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle. The number of these is as the sand of the sea (too great to count).

¹⁹ We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the (power of the) (under control of the) evil one.
