⁸ Philip said: »Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.«

¹⁸ Then Moses said: Please show me your glory!« ¹⁹ Jehovah said: »I will make all my goodness pass in front of you. I will call out my name, JEHOVAH. I will be kind to anyone I want to. I will be merciful to anyone I want to.« ²⁰ But he said: »You cannot see my face, because no one may see me and live.« ²¹ Then Jehovah said: »Look, there is a place near me. Stand by this rocky cliff. ²² »When my glory passes by, I will put you in a crevice in the cliff and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. ²³ »Then I will take my hand away, and you will see my back, but my face must not be seen.«

⁵ Jehovah came down in a cloud and stood with him as Moses called upon the name of Jehovah! ⁶ Jehovah then passed in front of him and called out: »I, Jehovah, am a God who is full of compassion and pity. I am not easily angered and show great love and faithfulness. ⁷ »I keep my promise for thousands of generations and forgive evil and sin. But I will not fail to punish children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generation for the sins of their fathers.«

⁴³ The next day he was reminded to go into Galilee. There he found Philip. Jesus said to him, »Follow me.« ⁴⁴ Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter. ⁴⁵ Philip found Nathanael, and said to him: »We have found the person Moses and the prophets wrote about in the Law and God’s word. It is Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.« ⁴⁶ And Nathanael said to him: »Could any good thing come out of Nazareth?« Philip said: »Come and see.«

⁵ Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming to him. He asked Philip: »Where will we buy enough bread to feed them?« ⁶ He said this to test him for he knew what he would do. ⁷ Philip answered: »Two hundred shillings’ worth of bread is not sufficient for everyone to take a little.«

²¹ They approached Philip, who was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and told him: »We wish to see Jesus.« ²² Philip and Andrew told Jesus.

²⁵ »I have spoken to you in figurative language (illustrations and proverbs). The hour comes when I will no longer speak to you in figurative language. I will tell you plainly from the Father.

³ There will be no curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city. His servants will serve him. ⁴ They will see his face and his name will be in their foreheads. ⁵ There will be no night there. They need no lamp, neither light of the sun, for Jehovah God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.
