¹ He spoke an illustration to them emphasizing the need to pray and not become tired:

³⁵ »Those accounted worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage.

² He was a devout man who respected God with his entire household. He gave many gifts of mercy to the people and prayed to God always.

¹³ Be alert (be watchful) and stand fast (be vigilant) (persevere) in the faith, carry on as men (be courageous), be strong. (Ps 31:24)

¹³ For that reason, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, having done everything, to stand firm. ¹⁴ Stand firm therefore and gird your loins with truth. Put on the breastplate of righteousness.

⁵ All of this proves that God’s judgment is just, and as a result, you will become worthy of his Kingdom, for which you are suffering. ⁶ It is a righteous thing for God to repay with affliction (great suffering and distress) those who afflict you.

⁵ Be sober in all things, suffer hardship, do the work of an evangelist (preacher of the good news), and fulfill your ministry.

⁷ The end of all things is near. Be of sound mind and judgment. Also be sober for the purpose of prayer.

⁸ Be sober, be watchful: your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion walks about, seeking whom he may devour (consume).

²⁸ Now, my little children dwell (Greek: meno: stay, dwell, be present) with him. If he shall be made known we may have boldness, and not be ashamed before him at his coming (presence) (being near).

²⁴ Now to him that is able to guard you from stumbling, and to set you before the presence of his glory without blemish with exceeding joy.
