²³ »You made their children as great in number as the stars of heaven. You took them into the land, of which you had said to their fathers that they were to go in and take it for themselves.

¹¹ I swore to them in my anger that they should not enter into my rest.

²⁶ Raising his hand, he swore that he would kill them in the wilderness,

¹⁵ ‘»»I also swore an oath to them in the desert. I swore that I would not bring them into the land that I had promised to give them. This land is the most beautiful land, a land flowing with milk and honey.

¹⁷ With whom was he disgusted for forty years? He was disgusted and angry with those who sinned and died in the desert. ¹⁸ Who did God swear would never enter his rest? He was talking about those who did not obey him.

³ We who believe enter into the rest. As God said: »I swore in my anger: ‘They shall not enter into my rest.’« Yet God’s works were completed from the foundation of the world.
