¹⁷ Incline your ear and listen to the words of the wise. Apply your heart and mind to my knowledge.

¹² Teach us to number each of our days so that we may present to you a heart of wisdom.

³ To receive instruction with wisdom, justice, judgment and integrity.

² Pay close attention to wisdom, and let your [mind and] heart (inner being) reach for discernment. ³ Call out for insight. Lift up your voice for understanding. ⁴ Search for wisdom as if it were silver. Hunt for it as if it were hidden treasure! ⁵ If you do these things you will have respect for Jehovah and you will find the true knowledge of God!

¹ My son, do not forget my law. Let your heart obey my commandments.

⁴ Father taught me. He said: »Remember my words in your heart. Obey my commandments and live. ⁵ »Achieve wisdom and understanding! Do not forget or ignore what I say. ⁶ »Do not abandon wisdom, and she will protect you. Love her, and she will keep you safe. ⁷ »Wisdom is the most important thing. So gain wisdom! And by all means arrive at understanding. ⁸ »Love wisdom and she will exalt you. Embrace wisdom and she will honor you.

¹ My son, pay attention to my wisdom. Listen to my understanding. ² That way you will maintain discretion and your lips will keep knowledge.

³³ »Hear instruction, do not refuse it and be wise. ³⁴ »Blessed is the man who listens to me. He watches daily at my gates, waiting at my doorposts.

¹² Apply your heart to instruction (discipline), and your ears to words of knowledge.

²⁵ I applied my heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom. I looked for the explanation, and to know the wickedness of folly, even of foolishness and madness.

⁹ I have seen all this and applied my heart to every work that is done under the sun. There is a time when one man rules over another to his own misery and harm.

¹⁶ When I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done on the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor night sees sleep with his eyes)

³ Give ear and come to me; listen to me, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.

⁵ While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them. A voice came out of the cloud, saying: »This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.«
