¹ ([Psalm of David]) The king finds joy in your strength, O Jehovah. What great joy he has in your salvation! ² You gave him his heart's desire. You did not refuse the prayer from his lips. ³ You come to him with the blessings of good things. You set a crown of fine gold on his head. ⁴ He asked you for life. You gave him a long life, forever and ever (perpetuity) (long lasting time). ⁵ Because of your salvation his glory is great. You place magnificence and majesty on him. ⁶ You make him blessed forever. You make him joyful with the pleasure of your presence. ⁷ Indeed, the king trusts Jehovah, and through the mercy of the Most High, he will not be moved. ⁸ Your hand (spirit and power) will discover all your enemies. Your powerful hand will find all who hate you. ⁹ When you appear, you will make them burn like a blazing furnace. Jehovah will swallow them up in his anger. Fire will devour them. ¹⁰ You will destroy their children from the earth and their offspring from among the sons of man. ¹¹ Even though they scheme and devise evil against you, they will not succeed. ¹² They turn their backs and flee because you aim your bow at their faces. ¹³ Arise O Jehovah be exalted in your strength. We will sing to praise your power.

⁶ »I have installed (anointed) (established) my king on Zion, my holy mountain.«

⁵ We will rejoice in your salvation. We will wave our flags in the name of our God. Jehovah will fulfill all your petitions. ⁶ Now I know that Jehovah will save his anointed king. He will answer him from his holy heaven with mighty deeds of his powerful hand.

⁹ Give victory to the king, O Jehovah. Answer us in the day that we call.

⁷ Jehovah is my strength and my shield. My heart trusted him, so I received help. My heart is triumphant and I thank him with my song.

¹⁶ But I will sing about your strength. In the morning I will joyfully sing about your loving-kindness. You have been my stronghold and a place of safety in times of trouble. ¹⁷ O my strength, I will make music to praise you! God is my defense (high fortress), my merciful God!

⁷ My salvation and my glory depend on God. God is the rock of my strength, my refuge.

¹¹ But the king will find joy in God. Everyone who takes an oath by God will speak praise, but the mouths of liars will be shut.

¹⁷ O God, You taught me from my youth, and I still declare your wondrous deeds.

¹ Oh come, let us sing to Jehovah. Let us make a joyful noise to the Rock of our salvation.

⁴ The strength of the King loves justice. You have established equity. You have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.

¹⁴ Jehovah makes me powerful and strong; he has saved me. ¹⁵ Listen to the glad shouts of victory in the tents of God's people: Jehovah’s mighty power has done it!

⁶ For unto us a child is born. Unto us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. ⁷ Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom. He will establish and uphold it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of Jehovah of Hosts will accomplish this.

² They asked: »Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and came to offer him praise.«

² Look to (consider without distractions) Jesus, the Leader (Predecessor) and Finisher (Perfecter) of our faith. He despised the shame. He endured the stake for the joy that was set before him. Then he sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

⁸ »Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. ⁹ »You will rule them with an iron scepter. You will dash them to pieces like pottery!«

⁴ He will give you your heart's desire and fulfill all your plans. ⁵ We will rejoice in your salvation. We will wave our flags in the name of our God. Jehovah will fulfill all your petitions.

⁴ Be happy with Jehovah and he will provide you with the desires of your heart.

¹¹ My eyes gloat over those who spy on me. My ears hear the evildoers attacking me.

⁶ He says: »It is a small thing that you are my servant. You will raise up the tribes of Jacob and restore the preserved ones of Israel. I will also make you a light to the nations that my salvation will reach to the end of the earth.« ⁷ Israel’s Holy God and Savior says to the one who is deeply despised, hated by the nations and is the servant of rulers: »Kings will see you released and will rise to show their respect. Princes will also see it and they will bow low to honor you.« ⁸ This is what Jehovah says: »In the time of favor I will answer you. I will appoint you as my promise to the people. You will restore the land. You will make them inherit the desolate inheritance.« ⁹ Say to those who are bound: »Go forth, to those in the darkness and show yourselves. They will feed along the roads and their pasture is on all bare heights. ¹⁰ »They will never be hungry or thirsty. The sun and the burning hot wind will not strike them. The one who has compassion on them will lead them and guide them to springs. ¹¹ »I will make all my mountains a road. My highways will be raised up. ¹² »They will come from far away. They will come from the north and from the west. They will come from the land of Sinim.«

²⁵ He is able to save completely those who approach God through him, because he is always alive to intercede for them.

¹³ Samuel took the olive oil and anointed David in front of his brothers. Immediately the Spirit of Jehovah took control of David and was with him from that day on. Then Samuel returned to Ramah.

⁴ Then the men of Judah came to Hebron. They anointed David as king of Judah. David heard that the people of Jabesh-gilead (Jabesh in Gilead) buried Saul.

³ All the elders of Israel came to King David at Hebron. He made a sacred alliance with them. They anointed him, and he became king of Israel.

³⁰ He removed the crown of their god Milcom from off the head of their king. The crown was made of seventy-five pounds of gold. There was a valuable jewel on it. David put the jewel on his own crown. He also carried off everything else of value.

² David took the gold crown from the head of Rabbah’s king. It was placed on David’s head. The crown was found to weigh seventy-five pounds, and in it was a precious stone. David also took a lot of goods from the city.

⁴¹ »Now arise, and come to your resting place, Jehovah our God, you and the ark of your power. Clothe your priests, Jehovah God, with salvation. Let your godly ones rejoice in what is good.

¹¹ »Who has preceded me that I should pay him? Everything under heaven is mine.

¹⁸ On the day of my calamity, they confronted me, and Jehovah came to my support.

¹⁹ Your goodness is so great! You reserve it for those who respect you. The sons of men watch as you show it to those who take refuge in you.

¹⁰ My God of loving-kindness will come to meet me. He will let me gloat over those who spy on me.

⁴ Do you despise the riches of his goodness, forbearance, and long-suffering? Do you not know that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

³⁵ Or who has first given to him, that it shall be repaid to him again? (Job 41:11)

³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places through Christ.

⁹ We see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels and crowned with glory and honor for suffering death. By the grace of God he tasted death for every man.

¹² His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns (diadems). He had a name written that no man knew, but himself.

³ Look at me! Answer me, O Jehovah my God! Light up my eyes, or else I will die.

¹⁰ You do not abandon me to the grave or allow your holy one to decay. ¹¹ You make the path of life known to me. Complete joy is in your presence. It is pleasant to be at your right hand forever.

⁵ You have heard my vows, O God, and you have given me what belongs to those who respect your name. ⁶ Add many years to the king's life; let him live on and on!

¹⁷ His name will endure forever. His name will continue as long as the sun shines. May all nations be blessed through him and call him blessed.

²⁹ I will make his descendants endure forever and his throne like the days of heaven.

³⁶ His descendants will last forever. His throne will be in my presence like the sun. ³⁷ It shall be established forever like the moon. It will be like a faithful witness in heaven.

¹⁶ I will satisfy you with a long life. I will show you my salvation.

⁷⁷ Let your compassion come to me that I may live, for your law is my delight.

¹⁷⁵ Let me live that it may praise you. May your ordinances help me.

³ It is like the dew of Hermon coming down upon the mountains of Zion. For there Jehovah commanded the blessing. It is life forever.

¹⁸ »I am alive! I was dead and, behold, I am alive forever, Amen. I have the keys of death and the grave.

⁸ »Say this to my servant David: ‘This is what Jehovah of Hosts says: I took you from the pasture where you followed sheep so that you could be the leader of my people Israel. ⁹ »‘I was with you wherever you went. I destroyed all your enemies in front of you. I will make your name famous like the names of the greatest people on earth.

¹⁹ »Yet this was insignificant in your eyes, O Sovereign Lord Jehovah for you have spoken also of your servant’s house in the distant future. And this is the law for man, O Sovereign Lord Jehovah.

¹¹ »‘When your days are over and you go to be with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you. It will be one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. ¹² »‘He is the one who will build a house for me. I will establish his throne forever. ¹³ »‘I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will never take my love away from him, as I took it away from your predecessor. ¹⁴ »‘I will set him over my house and my kingdom forever! His throne will be established forever.’« ¹⁵ Nathan reported to David all the words of this entire revelation.

²⁷ »You have been pleased to bless the house of your servant that it may continue for a very long time in your sight. You Jehovah have blessed it and it will be blessed from generation to generation.«

³ You, O Jehovah, are a protective shield over me. You are my glory. You hold my head high.

⁵ You made him a little lower than god-like ones (God) (Son of God) (angels). You crowned him with glory and honor. (John 1:18)

⁶ Honor and majesty are before him. Strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

¹ ([Psalm of David]) Jehovah said to my Lord: »Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.«

⁵ Jehovah formed me in the womb to be his servant. I am to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel to him. Jehovah honors me. My God has become my strength. ⁶ He says: »It is a small thing that you are my servant. You will raise up the tribes of Jacob and restore the preserved ones of Israel. I will also make you a light to the nations that my salvation will reach to the end of the earth.« ⁷ Israel’s Holy God and Savior says to the one who is deeply despised, hated by the nations and is the servant of rulers: »Kings will see you released and will rise to show their respect. Princes will also see it and they will bow low to honor you.«

¹ Who is this coming from Bozrah in Edom with his clothes stained bright red? Who is this dressed in splendor, going forward with great strength? It is I, Jehovah! I am coming to announce my victory. I am powerful enough to save you!

¹⁸ Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying: »All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.

³¹ When he was gone Jesus said: »Now the Son of man is glorified (praised) (exulted) (proclaimed) (honored) and God is glorified through him. ³² »If God is glorified through him, God will also immediately glorify him.

¹ Jesus spoke these things and lifted up his eyes to heaven. He said: »Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that the son may glorify you.

⁵ »And now, Father, glorify me with you, the glory that I had with you before the world existed.

²² »I have given them the glory that you gave me in order that they may be one even as we are one.

²⁰ He operated in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and made him to sit at his right hand in the heavenly places. ²¹ It is far above all governments and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. ²² He (God) put all things in subjection under his feet, and made him head over all things to the congregation,

⁹ For this reason God highly exalted him, and gave to him the name that is above every name, (Relative authority given by Jehovah God, the Father to His Son) (Philipians 2:11) ¹⁰ that in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things on earth and things under the earth, ¹¹ and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

¹ Here is a summary of the things we are discussing: We have this kind of high priest. He sat down at the right hand of the throne of the majesty in heaven.

²² He is in heaven at the right hand of God, ruling over all angels and heavenly authorities and powers.

⁸ When he took the book the four living creatures and twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Every one of them had harps, and golden bowls full of incense. These are the prayers of the holy ones. ⁹ They sing a new song, saying: »You are worthy to take the book, and to open the seals, for you were slaughtered and by your blood you bought persons for God out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation. ¹⁰ »You made them kings and priests to our God. They will reign as kings over the earth.« ¹¹ I heard the voice of many angels around the throne and the living creatures and the elders. The number of them was ten thousand (myriads) times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands. ¹² They said with a loud voice: »The Lamb that was slaughtered is worthy to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing.« ¹³ I heard every creature in heaven and on earth. I also heard those under the earth, in the sea, and all that are in them. They said: »Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power, be to him who sits upon the throne, and to the Lamb forever and ever.«

² »I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you. I will make your name great. You will be a blessing.

⁶ Many are saying: »Who will show us good?« Lift up the light of your countenance (face) (presence) upon us, O Jehovah! ⁷ You will put gladness (joy) in my heart. It will be more than when their grain and new wine abound.

¹¹ You make the path of life known to me. Complete joy is in your presence. It is pleasant to be at your right hand forever.

⁴ I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy. Upon the lyre I will praise you, O God, my God.

⁷ You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness. Therefore God, Your God, has anointed you with the oil of joy above your fellows.

² I look for you in the holy place to see your power and your glory. ³ My lips will praise you because your love (mercy) (loving kindness) (steadfast love) is better than life. ⁴ So I will bless (thank) you as long as I live. I will lift up my hands [in prayer] in your name. ⁵ You satisfy me with the richest foods. My mouth will sing your praise with joyful lips.

¹⁷ His name will endure forever. His name will continue as long as the sun shines. May all nations be blessed through him and call him blessed. ¹⁸ Blessed be Jehovah God, the God of Israel, who alone does miracles. ¹⁹ Blessed be to his glorious name forever. May the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and amen!

¹⁰ The angel spoke to them: »Do not be afraid. Behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy to all the people. ¹¹ »Christ (Messiah) the Lord, a Savior, is born this day in the city of David.

³⁰ »My eyes have seen your salvation. ³¹ »That which you prepared before the peoples. ³² »It is a light of revelation to the nations, and the glory of your people Israel.«

²⁸ ‘»You have made known to me the ways of life, and you will fill me with joy with your presence.’

²⁶ »God raised up his servant and sent him to you first. He sent him to bless you and to turn every one of you from your wicked ways.«

⁹ So then those who have faith are blessed with the faithful Abraham.

¹⁴ This way the blessing of Abraham might come upon the nations through Christ Jesus and we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

⁸ »When the Most High gave nations their inheritance, when he divided the descendants of Adam, he set up borders for the tribes corresponding to the number of the sons of Israel. ⁹ »Jehovah’s people were his property. Jacob was God’s own possession.

⁶ The people in their bitterness said David should be stoned. This caused him great distress. They were thinking of their sons and daughters. But David found strength in Jehovah his God.

² I will be glad, rejoice and exult in you. I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.

⁵ I trust your loving-kindness. My heart finds joy in your salvation.

⁸ I always keep Jehovah in front of me. When he is at my right hand (assisting me), I cannot be moved.

² Jehovah is my rock and my fortress. He is my deliverer. He is my God and my crag, the one in whom I take refuge. He is my shield, and the strength of my salvation, my stronghold.

⁷ Some boast in chariots and others in horses, but we will boast in the name of Jehovah our God. ⁸ They will sink to their knees and fall, but we will rise and stand firm.

¹ ([Psalm of David]) Vindicate me, O Jehovah, because I have walked with (a life-style of) integrity and I have trusted you without wavering.

⁴ Let me live in your sanctuary all my life. Let me find safety under your wings.

⁶ Add many years to the king's life; let him live on and on! ⁷ May he rule forever in your presence, O God. Protect him with your constant love and faithfulness.

² I will say to Jehovah: »You are my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.«

⁹ »You, O Jehovah, are my refuge!« You have made the Most High your home. ¹⁰ No harm will come to you. No sickness will come near your house.

¹⁴ »He was given legal power and a kingdom. Out of his glory all the peoples, nations, and languages will serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away. His kingdom will not be destroyed. (Revelation 11:15) (Daniel 2:44) (Psalm 45:6)

⁴³ He trusts in God. Let him save him now if he wants him. After all he said: »I am the Son of God.«

¹³ And again: »I will put my trust in him.« And again: »Behold, the children that Jehovah has given me.« (Isaiah 8:18)

²⁹ »Even if someone pursues you to take your life, your life is wrapped securely in the bundle (purse) (bag) of the living from Jehovah your God (God will keep you safe). He will dispose of the lives of your enemies. They will be hurled like stones from a sling.

³ The heaviest fighting was against Saul. When the archers got him in their range, he was badly wounded by them.

¹ King David was settled in his palace. Jehovah kept him safe from all his enemies.

⁹ »You will rule them with an iron scepter. You will dash them to pieces like pottery!«

¹ ([Psalm of David]) I love you, O Jehovah, my strength.

⁹ Those who dwell in the wilderness will bow before him. His enemies shall lick the dust.

²² No enemy will tax him. No wicked man will oppress him. ²³ I will beat down his adversaries before him. I will strike those who hate him.

¹ ([Psalm of David]) Jehovah said to my Lord: »Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.« ² Jehovah will extend your powerful scepter from Zion. He will say: »Rule in the midst of your enemies.«

¹⁰ »‘As my hand took hold of the kingdoms of the idols, kingdoms whose carved images were greater then those of Jerusalem and Samaria,

² »Though they dig into the grave my hand will take them. Though they climb to heaven I will bring them down. ³ »Though they hide on top of Mount Carmel I will search and find them and take them from there. Though they hide from my sight on the bottom of the sea I will command the serpent to bite them.

¹⁴ »His citizens hated him. They sent a spokesman to him saying we do not want this man to rule us.

²⁷ »Bring my enemies that do not want me to rule over them and kill them in front of me.«

²⁵ For he (Christ) must rule as king until he (God) puts all enemies under his feet (his control). (Psalm 2; 110) (Daniel 2:44) (Revelation 5:10; 20:6)

²⁸ He that despised Moses’ Law died without mercy under two or three witnesses. ²⁹ What about those who despise the Son of God? Those who treat as a cheap thing the blood of God’s covenant that purified them from sin? Those who insult the Spirit of grace? Think how much worse the punishment they deserve will be!

¹⁵ Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword, that with it he should strike the nations. He will rule them with a rod of iron. He treads the winepress of the fierceness and anger of Almighty God.

²⁸ He looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah and all the land in the Plain. He saw smoke rising from the land like the thick smoke of a furnace.

²² My anger has started a fire that will burn into the depths of the grave. It will consume the earth and its crops and set the foundations of the mountains on fire.

³ »It would surely outweigh the sand of the seas, no wonder my words have been impetuous.

⁵ Then he rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his rage (fury). He says:

¹² Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and you be destroyed in your way, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed (happy) are all who take refuge (put trust) in him.

⁸ Smoke went up from his nostrils. A raging fire came out of his mouth. Glowing coals were kindled by it.

³ Our God will come and will not keep silent. A devouring fire is in front of him and a raging storm is around him.

¹ ([Psalm of David]) Be gracious to me, O God, for man has trampled upon me. Fighting all day long he oppresses me. ² My foes have trampled upon me all day long. They are many who fight proudly against me.

¹⁷ The ground split open and swallowed Dathan. It buried Abiram's followers.

¹¹ O Jehovah, your hand is lifted high, but they do not see it. Let them see your zeal for your people and be put to shame. Let the fire reserved for your enemies consume them.

² Without mercy Jehovah destroyed every village in Judah. He tore down the forts that defended the land. He brought disgrace on the kingdom and its rulers.

²⁰ He commanded the mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to throw them into the blazing furnace. ²¹ Then these men were bound in their coats, caps and their other garments. They were thrown into the midst of the blazing furnace. ²² Because of the urgency of the king's commandment and the exceeding hot furnace, the flame of the fire killed the men who delivered Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

⁶ Who can stand before his indignation (displeasure)? Who can resist (withstand) (endure) the heat of his anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken to pieces by him.

¹ Jehovah of Hosts proclaims: »The day is coming when all arrogant and evil people will burn like stubble. On that day they will burn up and there will be nothing left of them, either root or bough.

¹⁰ »The ax is ready to cut down the trees at the roots. Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

¹² »His winnowing shovel is in his hand. He will clean his threshing floor and gather his wheat into a barn. He will then burn the husks in a fire that cannot be put out.«

⁴² »The angels will cast them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

⁵⁰ »The wicked will be cast into the furnace of fire where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

⁷ »The king was angry, and sent his armies to put the evil servants to death and to destroy their town with fire.

⁴¹ »Then he will tell those on his left: ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the ever-burning fire that is prepared for the Devil and his [fallen] angels.

⁴⁶ »These will go away into ever-burning fire (everlasting cutting off) (death) (total destruction) (doom) (punishment) (everlasting penalty), but the righteous to everlasting life.’«

¹⁶ They hindered us from speaking to the nations so that they may be saved. The result was that they always fill up the measure of their sins. But wrath has come upon them to the utmost.

⁸ They will render vengeance to those who do not know God, and to those who do not obey the good news of our Lord Jesus.

¹⁶ They said to the mountains and rocks: »Fall on us, and hide us from the presence of him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: ¹⁷ »For the great day of his wrath has come; and who will be able to stand?«

¹⁴ Death and the grave were hurled into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

³⁴ This was the sin of the house of Jeroboam. It brought about its ruin and total destruction from the face of the earth.

¹⁶ »His roots dry up below and his branches wither above. ¹⁷ »The memory of him perishes from the earth. He has no name in the street. ¹⁸ »He is driven from light into darkness and is banished from the world. ¹⁹ »He has no offspring or descendants among his people, no survivor where once he lived.

²⁸ »A flood will carry off his house. Rushing waters will wash away his possessions on the day of God’s wrath.

²⁸ Jehovah loves justice, and he will not abandon his godly ones. They will be kept safe forever, but the descendants of the wicked will be destroyed.

¹³ Let his descendants be cut off and their family name be wiped out by the next generation.

²⁰ You ruined your country and killed your own people. For that reason, you will not be buried like other kings. None of your evil family will survive.

¹ Why do the nations conspire together and rage? Why do the peoples plot in vain?

² The wicked proudly persecutes the poor people. He will be caught in the schemes that he contrived.

¹³ I have heard the whispering of many people, terror on every side, while they made plans together against me. They were plotting to take my life.

²⁰ They do not talk about peace. Instead, they scheme against the peaceful people in the land.

⁴ They say: »Come and let us destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more.«

⁶ »‘»Let us invade Judah. Let us tear it apart and divide it among us. Let us make the son of Tabeel king over Judah.« ⁷ »‘This is what the Lord Jehovah says: »It will not take place! It will not happen!

⁹ Be broken, you people. Be terrified. Listen all you distant parts of the earth. Prepare for battle and be terrified. Prepare for battle and be terrified! ¹⁰ Make plans for battle, but they will never succeed. Give orders, but they will not be carried out, because God is with us!

¹⁸ Jehovah revealed their plot to me so that I would understand. He showed me what they were doing. ¹⁹ I was like an unquestioning lamb brought to the slaughter. I did not know that they were plotting against me. They were saying: »Let us destroy the tree with its fruit. Let us cut Jeremiah off from this world of the living so that we will not be reminded of him anymore.«

² Jehovah said to me: »Son of man, these are the men who plan evil and give bad advice in this city (Jerusalem).

⁸ He sent them to Bethlehem. He said: »Search diligently for the young child. When you find him, bring me word so I may come and bow down to him also.«

¹⁶ Herod saw that the astrologers tricked him and he was furious. He sent soldiers to kill all the boys two years old and younger in or near Bethlehem. This matched the time he learned from the astrologers.

⁴⁶ They wanted to seize him, but feared the people, because the people saw Jesus as a prophet.

⁴ All of them, using deceit, worked together to capture Jesus and kill him. ⁵ They insisted: »Not during the feast; it could start a riot among the people.«

⁶³ They said: »Sir, we remember while he was yet alive, the deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’« ⁶⁴ »Command the tomb be secured until the third day. Otherwise his disciples could come and steal him away. They could say to the people. ‘He is risen from the dead.’ The last deception will be worse than the first.«

² Suddenly there was a great earthquake, as an angel of God descended from heaven and rolled away the stone and sat on it. ³ His appearance was as lightning, and his clothing white as snow. ⁴ The guards shook with fear and became as dead men. ⁵ The angel spoke to the women: »I know you seek Jesus who has been impaled; do not fear. ⁶ »He is not here, for he has risen just as he promised. Come; see the place where the Lord lay.

¹⁷ »We must warn these men not to speak about it in order to stop this from spreading further among the people.« ¹⁸ They called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

²⁷ They brought them before the council and the high priest asked them: ²⁸ »Did we command you not to teach in this name? Look, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and are willing to bring this man’s blood upon us.«

²⁰ »Have I sinned? What have I done to you, O watcher of all humanity? Why have you made me your target? Am I a burden to you?

¹² »I was at ease, but he shattered me. He has grabbed me by the neck and has shaken me to pieces. He has also set me up as his target. ¹³ »His arrows surround me. Without mercy he splits my kidneys open. He pours out my gall on the ground.

¹² If one does not repent God will sharpen his sword. He has bent and strung his bow. ¹³ He has prepared his deadly weapons, making his arrows fiery shafts.

³ When my enemies turn back, they stumble and perish before you.

¹⁴ He shot his arrows and scattered them. He flashed streaks of lightning to agitate (disturb and trouble) them.

⁴⁰ You made my enemies turn their backs to me. I destroyed those who hated me.

¹⁰ You make us retreat from the enemy. Those who hate us rob us at will.

⁹ Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call. This I know, that God is for me!

⁷ But God will shoot his arrows and quickly wound them.

¹² With his bow bent, he made me the target for his arrows.

¹¹ »You are great and powerful, glorious, splendid, and majestic. Everything in heaven and earth is yours, and you, O Jehovah, are king, supreme ruler over all.

¹⁹ »If I speak of strength and justice, he is strong! Who will appoint my day in court?

⁴⁶ Jehovah lives! Blessed is my rock! Praise the God of my salvation.

¹⁰ Cease your endeavors and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be glorified in the earth!

⁵ Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be above all the earth!

¹¹ Be exalted, O God, above the heavens. Let your glory be over all the earth.

¹⁰ The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance. He shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked. ¹¹ Men will say: Truly there is a reward for the righteous. Truly there is a God who judges the earth.

⁵ Who is like Jehovah our God? He is seated on his high throne.

¹⁷ Saying: »We give you thanks, Jehovah God the Almighty, the one who is and who was, because you have taken your great power, and begun to rule as king. (Exodus 6:3) (Amos 4:13)

³ They sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying: »Great and marvelous are your works, Jehovah God, the Almighty; just and true are your ways, you King of the ages (Eternal King) (King of the nations) (King of the holy ones). (Deuteronomy 31:30; 32:4) (Exodus 6:3) ⁴ »Who will not reverence you, Jehovah, and glorify your name, for only you are holy. All nations will come and worship you. Your righteous judgments are clearly apparent.«

⁵ I heard the angel of the waters say: »You are righteous, Jehovah, who are, and was, the Holy One, because you have judged these things. (Exodus 3:14) ⁶ »They have shed the blood of the holy ones and prophets. You give them blood to drink for they deserve it.« ⁷ I heard another say: »Even so, Jehovah God the Almighty, true and righteous are your judgments.« (Deuteronomy 32:4) (Psalm 145:17) (Exodus 6:3)

²⁰ »Rejoice over her, you heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets, for God pronounced judgment for you against her.«

¹ After these things I heard a great voice of many people in heaven, saying: »Praise Jehovah! Salvation, and glory, and honor, and power belong to our God. (Psalm 150:6) ² »True and righteous are his judgments: for he has judged the great harlot, who corrupted the earth with her fornication. And has avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.« ³ Again they said: »Praise Jehovah. Her smoke rose up forever and ever.« ⁴ The twenty-four elders and the four beasts fell down and worshiped God, who sat on the throne, saying: »Amen! Praise Jehovah!« (Psalm 117:1) ⁵ Then a voice came from the throne. It said: »Praise our God, all you his servants, and you who reverence him, both small and great.« ⁶ And I heard as it were the voice of a large number of people, and as the sound of many waters, and as the sound of mighty thunder, saying: »Praise Jehovah! For Jehovah our God, the Almighty, reigns. (Psalm 106:48)
