⁴ You made me find joy in what you have done, O Jehovah. I will sing joyfully about the works of your hands.

⁶ You made him rule what your hands created. You have put everything under his control:

¹⁰ The righteous man will be glad in Jehovah. He will take refuge in him. The upright in heart will sing praises.

¹⁶ Let your servants see what you can do. Let our children see your majesty.

⁴⁷ Rescue us, O Jehovah our God, and gather us from the nations so that we may give thanks to your holy name and make your praise our glory. ⁴⁸ Thanks be to Jehovah the God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting. Let all the people say amen. Praise Jehovah!

³ Jehovah has done spectacular things for us. We are overjoyed.

⁵ I remember the days of old. I meditate (think deeply) (intensely study) on all your activities. I muse on the work of your hands.

⁶ Men shall speak of the power of your awesome acts, and I will tell of your greatness. ⁷ They will eagerly utter the memory of your great goodness and will shout joyfully of your righteousness.

¹³ Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah says: My servants will eat, but you will go hungry. My servants will drink, but you will go thirsty. My servants will rejoice, but you will be put to shame! ¹⁴ My servants will sing out of the joy of their hearts, but you will cry out from anguish of heart and wail in brokenness of spirit.

¹⁰ »All who love Jerusalem, be happy and rejoice with her. All who mourn for her be glad with her. ¹¹ »You will nurse and be satisfied from her comforting breasts. You will nurse and be satisfied at her full breasts.«

² To proclaim the favorable Year of Jehovah and the day of vengeance of our God. To comfort all who mourn, ³ to present a garland, instead of ashes, to those who mourn in Zion, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and the mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting. They will be called oaks of righteousness. They are the planting of Jehovah, that he may be glorified. ⁴ They will rebuild the ancient ruins. They will raise up the former devastations. And they will repair the ruined cities, the desolations of many generations. ⁵ »Strangers will stand and shepherd your flocks. Foreigners will be your farmers and your vinedressers. ⁶ »You will be called the priests of Jehovah. You will be spoken of as ministers of our God. You will eat the wealth of nations, you will boast in their riches. ⁷ »Instead of your shame there will be a double portion. Instead of humiliation they will shout for joy over their portion. Therefore they will possess a double portion in their land. Everlasting joy will be theirs. ⁸ »For I, Jehovah, love justice. I hate robbery in the burnt offering. Therefore I will faithfully give them their recompense and make an everlasting covenant with them. ⁹ »Then their offspring will be known among the nations, and their descendants in the midst of the peoples. All who see them will recognize them because they are the blessed offspring of Jehovah.« ¹⁰ I will rejoice greatly in Jehovah. I will exult in my God for he has clothed me with garments of salvation. He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. ¹¹ For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes the things sown in it to spring up, the Lord Jehovah will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before all the nations.

⁷ Jehovah says: »Sing aloud with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nations.« Proclaim! Give praise and say, O Jehovah, save your people, the remnant of Israel.

¹¹ »Jehovah will free the descendants of Jacob and reclaim them from those who are stronger than they are. ¹² »They will come and shout for joy on top of Mount Zion. They will stream to it to enjoy Jehovah’s blessings: fresh grain, new wine, olive oil, lambs and calves. Their lives will be like well-watered gardens, and they will never suffer again.« ¹³ »Then young women will rejoice and dance along with young men and old men. I will turn their mourning into joy. I will comfort them. I will replace their sorrow with joy.

¹⁴ Shout for joy, O daughter of Zion! Shout (and sing) in triumph, O Israel! Rejoice and exult with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem! ¹⁵ Jehovah has removed his judgments against you. He has turned aside your enemies. The King of Israel, Jehovah, is in your midst! You will fear calamity no more. ¹⁶ Jerusalem will be told in that day: »Do not be afraid, O Zion! Do not loose courage.

⁴⁷ »My heart and mind rejoice in God my Savior.

²² »You have sorrow now. But I will see you again. Your heart will rejoice and no one can take your joy from you.

¹⁴ Thanks to God, who always leads us in triumph (triumphal procession) in Christ. He makes known through us the sweet aroma of his knowledge in every place.
