¹³ Then I heard a voice from heaven say: »Write: Blessed are the dead who die in union with the Lord from this time forward: Yes, says the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works follow them.«

¹⁷ »There the wicked cease from turmoil, and there the weary are at rest. ¹⁸ »Captives also enjoy their ease; they no longer hear the slave driver’s shout. ¹⁹ »The small and the great are there. The slave is freed from his master.

¹¹ They warn your servant. There is a great reward in following them.

¹³ Righteousness will go ahead of him and make a path for his steps.

¹ I returned and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun. I saw the tears of the oppressed for they had no one to comfort them. The oppressors had power but they had no one to comfort them. ² I praised the dead who are already dead more than the living who are yet alive.

¹⁰ They will reach Jerusalem with gladness, singing and shouting for joy. They will be happy forever. They will be forever free from sorrow and grief.

¹ The righteous perishes and no man takes it to heart. Merciful men are taken away, while no one considers that the righteous is taken away from evil. ² He will enter into peace. The honorable and honest will rest in his bed.

¹⁷ Then a voice from heaven said: »This is my Son whom I love and whom I have approved.«

³⁵ »‘I was hungry and you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you took me in. ³⁶ »‘I was naked and you clothed me. I was sick and you visited me. I was in prison and you came to me.’ ³⁷ »The righteous will answer him: ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? ³⁸ »‘When did we see you as a stranger and take you in, or naked and dress you? ³⁹ »‘When did we see you sick or in prison and come to you?’ ⁴⁰ »The King will answer: ‘To the extent that you did it to one of the least of my brothers, you did it to me.’

⁹ Jesus continued: »I tell you, make friends for yourselves with worldly wealth. That way when it gives out, you will be welcomed in the eternal home.

²⁵ »Abraham said: Remember, my son, in your lifetime you were given good things, while Lazarus got all the bad things. Now he is enjoying himself while you are in torment.

⁸ For if we live, we live to God and if we die, we die to God. Therefore should we live or die, we are God’s.

⁵⁸ Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast and unmovable. Always have plenty to do in the work of the Lord, for you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

⁸ We are of good courage, I say, and are willing to be absent from the body, and to be at home with the Lord.

⁷ Do not be deceived. God is not mocked! A man will harvest what he sows. ⁸ He that sows to his own flesh will harvest corruption of the flesh. But he that sows to the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.

²¹ For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. ²² If I live in the flesh this will bring fruit from my labor. I do not know what to choose. ²³ I am hard pressed between the two. I have the desire to depart and be with Christ for it is far better.

¹⁷ If I am offered for the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice with you all.

¹⁴ If we believe that Jesus died and rose again, God will bring with him those who sleep in Jesus.

¹⁶ For the Lord will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God: and the dead in Christ will rise first.

¹⁰ He died for us, that, whether we are awake in this life or sleep in death, we should live together with him.

⁶ It is a righteous thing for God to repay with affliction (great suffering and distress) those who afflict you. ⁷ You who are afflicted rest with us at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with the angels of his power in flaming fire.

⁷ I have fought the good fight! I have finished the course! I have kept the faith! ⁸ The crown of righteousness is laid up for me. The Lord, the righteous judge, will give it to me at that day; and not to me only, but also to all those who have loved his appearing (manifestation). ⁹ There remains then a Sabbath rest for the people of God. ¹⁰ He who enters into his rest also rests from his own works, just as God did from his. ¹¹ Let us do our utmost to enter into that rest. Let no one fall into the same pattern of disobedience by not obeying the word.

¹⁰ For God is not unrighteous (unjust) to forget your work and the love you showed for his name. You ministered to the holy ones and continue to minister. ¹¹ We desire that every one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope down to the end.

¹¹ It said: »Write what you see in a book and send it to the seven congregations in Asia: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.«

¹ »To the angel of the congregation of Ephesus write: The one who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lamp stands, says:

¹¹ Each of them was given a white robe. They were told that they should rest for a little while. [They were to wait] until the [number] of their fellow servants and their brothers, who would be killed, as they were, should be fulfilled.

¹⁴ I said to him: »Sir, you know.« He said to me: »These are the ones who came out of the great tribulation. They washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. ¹⁵ »Because of this they are before the throne of God. They serve him day and night in his temple. He who sits on the throne will spread his tent over (dwell among) them. ¹⁶ »They will hunger no more, nor thirst any more; neither shall the sunlight beat down on them, nor any heat. ¹⁷ »The Lamb who is in the middle of the throne will feed them and lead them to living fountains of water. God will wipe away all tears from their eyes.«

⁴ When the seven thunders spoke, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven say to me: »Seal up those things that the seven thunders spoke. Do not write them.«

¹⁵ The seventh angel blew his trumpet. There were great voices in heaven, saying: »The kingdom of the world has become our God’s, and his Christ will rule as king forever and ever.«

¹⁹ The temple of God was opened in heaven. There was seen in his temple the ark of his covenant. And there were lightnings and voices and thunder and an earthquake and great hail.

¹⁷ Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air. A loud voice came out of the temple of heaven. It said: »It is done!«

⁹ He said to me: »Write: Blessed are they who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb.« He said to me: »These are the true sayings of God.«

⁶ Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them. They shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall rule as kings with him for the thousand years.

⁵ He who sat on the throne said: »Behold, I make all things new. Then he told me to write: for these words are faithful and true.«
