¹⁴ The women said to Naomi: »A blessing on Jehovah. He has not let you be without a near relative. May his name be great in Israel.

² »I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you. I will make your name great. You will be a blessing.

²⁷ He said: »Praise Jehovah, the God of my master Abraham. He has faithfully kept his promise to my master. Jehovah has led me straight to my master’s relatives.«

³⁵ Leah became pregnant again and gave birth to another son. She said: »This time I will praise Jehovah.« So she named him Judah (Praise). Then she stopped having children.

²¹ Salmon became the father of Boaz, and Boaz became the father of Obed. ²² And Obed became the father of Jesse, and Jesse became the father of David.

¹ ([Psalm of David]) I will thank Jehovah at all times. My mouth will always praise him. ² I will boast about Jehovah. Those who are oppressed will hear it and rejoice. ³ Come magnify Jehovah with me. Let us highly honor (exalt) (promote) his name together.

¹ There must go forth a twig out of the stump of Jesse. A branch (sprout) (shoot) (descendant) from his roots will bear fruit. ² The Spirit of Jehovah will rest on him. The spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and strength, the spirit of knowledge and respect for Jehovah will be his. ³ He will delight in the reverence of Jehovah. He will not judge by what his eyes see, nor make a decision by what his ears hear. ⁴ But with righteousness he will judge the poor, and decide with fairness for the afflicted of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth (power of his words), and with the spirit (breath) of his lips he will destroy the wicked.

Mary was the mother of Jesus, who is called Christ (the Anointed). ¹⁷ So there were fourteen generations from Abraham to David, fourteen generations from David until the exile to Babylon, fourteen generations from the exile until the Messiah. ¹⁸ The birth (genesis: origin) (beginning) of Jesus Christ was as follows: His mother Mary had been promised to Joseph in marriage. But before they were married, Mary realized that she was pregnant by Holy Spirit. ¹⁹ Her husband Joseph was an honorable man and did not want to disgrace her publicly. So he decided to break the marriage agreement with her secretly. ²⁰ Joseph had this in mind when God’s angel appeared to him in a dream. The angel said to him: »Joseph, descendant of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. She is pregnant by Holy Spirit.

⁵⁸ Her neighbors and her relatives heard that Jehovah magnified his mercy towards her; and they rejoiced with her.

¹⁵ Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.

²⁶ When one member suffers all the members suffer with it. When one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.

¹⁸ In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

³ Our friends, we should thank God at all times for you. It is right for us to do so, because your faith is growing so much and the love each of you has for the other abounds toward each other.
