²⁷ For those who live in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they did not recognize him nor understand the words of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, have fulfilled these by condemning him.

²⁹ Jesus answered them, You err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

⁵⁴ But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that say it must happen this way? ⁵⁵ In that same hour Jesus said to the multitudes, Do you come out to take me with swords and clubs, as if I was a thief ? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and you did not lay hold on me. ⁵⁶ But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

³⁴ And he said, I tell you, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before you have thrice denied that you know me.

²⁰ And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.

²⁴ And certain of those who were with us went to the tomb, and found it just as the women had said: but him they did not see. ²⁵ Then he said to them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: ²⁶ Was it not necessary for the Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? ²⁷ And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he explained to them all the things concerning himself in the scriptures.

⁴⁴ He said to them, These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled which are written about me in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms. ⁴⁵ Then he opened their minds, that they might understand the scriptures,

²⁸ Then Jesus said to them, When you have lifted up the Son of man, then you shall know that I am he, and that I do nothing by myself; but I speak these things as my Father has taught me.

²¹ But all these things they will do to you for my name's sake, because they do not know him who sent me.

³ And these things they will do to you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

²⁸ After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, said in fulfillment of the scripture, I thirst. ²⁹ Now there was a vessel full of vinegar set there: and they soaked a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon a hyssop branch, and held it to his mouth. ³⁰ When Jesus received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up his spirit.

³⁶ For these things came to pass that the scripture should be fulfilled, Not one of his bones shall be broken. ³⁷ And again another scripture says, They shall look on him whom they have pierced.

¹⁷ And now, brethren, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did your rulers.

¹⁴ But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down. ¹⁵ And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, Brethren, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.

²¹ For from ancient generations Moses has had in every city those who preach him, for he is read in the synagogues every sabbath day.

²² Having obtained help from God, I continue to this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying nothing other than what the prophets and Moses said would come to pass: ²³ That Christ would suffer, and that he would be the first to rise from the dead, and would proclaim light to the people, and to the Gentiles.

²³ And when they had appointed a day, many came to him in his lodging; to whom he explained and testified of the kingdom of God, trying to persuade them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning until evening.

⁸ As it is written, God has given them the spirit of stupor, eyes that should not see, and ears that should not hear; down to this day. ⁹ And David says, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumbling block, and a retribution to them: ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their backs forever.

²⁵ Brethren, I would not have you be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own conceits; that a hardening in part has happened to Israel, until the full number of Gentiles has come in.

⁸ Wisdom which none of the rulers of this world understood: for had they understood it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

¹⁴ But their minds were hardened: for to this day the same veil remains unlifted at the reading of the old covenant; because it is only removed through Christ.

⁴ For the god of this world has blinded the minds of those who do not believe, lest they should see the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God.

¹³ Though I was formerly a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and a violent man: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
