⁶ Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer every man.

¹³ You are the salt of the earth: but if the salt has lost its taste, with what shall it be salted? it is no longer good for anything, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot by men.

³⁴ You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. ³⁵ A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things: and an evil man out of his evil treasure brings forth evil things.

⁵⁰ Salt is good: but if the salt has lost its saltiness, with what will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.

²² And all spoke well of him, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is this not Joseph's son?

²⁰ So they watched him, and sent forth spies, who pretended to be sincere, that they might catch him in his words, that they might deliver him to the power and authority of the governor. ²¹ And they asked him, Teacher, we know that you speak and teach correctly, and that you are not partial to any person, but teach the way of God truly: ²² Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not? ²³ But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them, ²⁴ Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it? They answered, Caesar's. ²⁵ And he said to them, Then render to Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and to God the things which are God's. ²⁶ And they could not trap him in what he said before the people: they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace. ²⁷ Then some of the Sadducees, who deny that there is any resurrection, came to him, and they asked him, ²⁸ Teacher, Moses wrote to us, If any man's brother dies, leaving a wife and no children, that man should take the widow, and raise up children for his brother. ²⁹ Now there were seven brothers: the first took a wife, and died without children. ³⁰ And the second, ³¹ And the third took her; as did all seven: and they left no children, and died. ³² Last of all the woman died. ³³ Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife will she be? for all seven had her as wife. ³⁴ Jesus answered and said to them, The people of this age marry, and are given in marriage: ³⁵ But those who shall be accounted worthy to obtain that age, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: ³⁶ Nor can they die any more: for they are like the angels; and are the children of God, since they are children of the resurrection. ³⁷ That the dead are raised, even Moses showed in the account of the bush, when he called the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. ³⁸ For he is not the God of the dead, but of the living: for all are alive to him. ³⁹ Then certain of the scribes answered, Teacher, you have spoken well. ⁴⁰ And after that they dared not ask him any more questions.

²⁹ Let no corrupt words proceed out of your mouth, but only that which is good for edifying, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

¹⁶ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

¹⁵ But set apart Christ as Lord in your hearts: and always be ready to give an answer to every man who asks you the reason for the hope that is in you; but do it with gentleness and respect,
