¹⁴ And it was the day of preparation for the passover, about the sixth hour: and he said to the Jews, Behold your King!

⁶² Now the next day, which followed the day of preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together before Pilate,

²⁵ And it was the third hour when they crucified him.

³³ And when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. ³⁴ And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which means, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

⁴² And when the evening had come, because it was the preparation day, that is, the day before the sabbath,

⁵⁴ It was the day of preparation, and the sabbath drew near.

³ And came up to him and said, Hail, King of the Jews! and struck him with their hands.

⁵ Then Jesus came forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate said to them, Behold the man!

¹⁹ And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. ²⁰ Many of the Jews read this title: for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Latin, and Greek. ²¹ Then the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, Do not write, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews. ²² Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.

³¹ Because it was the day of preparation, in order that the bodies would not remain upon the cross during the sabbath day (for that sabbath day was a high day,) the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. ³² The soldiers came and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who was crucified with him.

⁴² Because of the Jewish day of preparation, as the tomb was near at hand, they laid Jesus there.
