¹ And after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up a high mountain where they were alone,

³⁷ And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very troubled.

² And after six days Jesus took with him Peter, and James, and John, and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. ³ And his clothing became shining and exceedingly white; as no fuller on earth could whiten them. ⁴ And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus. ⁵ And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Rabbi, it is good for us to be here: let us make three tabernacles; one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah. ⁶ For he did not know what to say; for they were very afraid. ⁷ And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. ⁸ And suddenly, when they looked around, they saw no man with them, except Jesus only. ⁹ And as they came down from the mountain, he commanded them that they should tell no man the things they had seen, until the Son of man should have risen from the dead. ¹⁰ And they kept that saying to themselves, questioning one with another what rising from the dead might mean. ¹¹ And they asked him, saying, Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first? ¹² And he answered them, Elijah truly comes first, and restores all things; and how is it written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be treated with contempt? ¹³ But I say to you, That Elijah has indeed come, and they have done to him whatever they pleased, as it is written of him.

⁵¹ And when he came into the house, he allowed no one to go in, except Peter, and James, and John, and the father and mother of the girl.

²⁸ And it came to pass about eight days after these teachings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up on a mountain to pray. ²⁹ And as he prayed, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became dazzling white. ³⁰ And, behold, two men were talking with him, Moses and Elijah: ³¹ Who appeared in glory, and spoke of his departure, which he would accomplish at Jerusalem. ³² But Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep: but when they were fully awake, they saw his glory, and the two men who stood with him. ³³ And it came to pass, as the two men departed from him, Peter said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: let us make three shelters; one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah: but he did not know what he was saying. ³⁴ While he spoke, a cloud came and enveloped them: and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. ³⁵ And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my Son, my Chosen: hear him. ³⁶ And when the voice had spoken, they found Jesus was alone. And they kept quiet, and told no one in those days any of those things which they had seen.

¹ This is the third time I am coming to you. By the mouths of two or three witnesses must every matter be established.

¹⁸ And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him on the holy mountain.
