²⁹ He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.

² And saying, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. ³ For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, when he said, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. ⁴ And John had a garment of camel's hair, and a leather girdle about his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey. ⁵ Then Jerusalem, and all Judaea, went out to him, and all the region around the Jordan, ⁶ And were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins. ⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come for baptism, he said to them, You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? ⁸ Therefore, bring forth fruit in keeping with repentance:

³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father? They said to him, The first. Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you, That the tax gatherers and the prostitutes go into the kingdom of God before you.

¹⁷ And when he came to himself, he said, How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough to spare, and I perish with hunger! ¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight,

²⁰ But declared first to those of Damascus, then at Jerusalem, and throughout all the regions of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and perform deeds worthy of repentance.

¹¹ And such were some of you: but you are washed, but you are sanctified, but you are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

¹ And you were dead in trespasses and sins; ² In which you walked in times past, according to the ways of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience. ³ Among them we all lived in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, like the others. ⁴ But God, who is rich in mercy, because of his great love with which he loved us, ⁵ Even when we were dead in transgressions, has made us alive together with Christ, (by grace you are saved;) ⁶ And has raised us up with him, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus: ⁷ That in the ages to come he might show the incomparable riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. ⁸ For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: ⁹ Not because of works, lest any man should boast. ¹⁰ For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God has prepared beforehand for us to do. ¹¹ Therefore remember, that in times past you Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by those who are called the Circumcision, (that which is performed in the flesh by hands;) ¹² That at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: ¹³ But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

¹⁷ This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as other Gentiles walk, in the futility of their minds, ¹⁸ Having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their hearts: ¹⁹ Who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to licentiousness, greedy to practice all kinds of uncleanness.
