¹ Then Jesus spoke to the multitude, and to his disciples, ² Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: ³ Therefore, all they bid you to observe, that observe and do; but do not imitate their works: for they say, but do not do. ⁴ For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them upon men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. ⁵ But all their works they do to be seen by men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, ⁶ And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, ⁷ And greetings in the markets, and to be called by men, Rabbi. ⁸ But do not be called Rabbi: for one is your Teacher; and all of you are brethren. ⁹ And call no man upon the earth your father: for one is your Father, who is in heaven. ¹⁰ Neither be called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. ¹¹ But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. ¹² And whoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled; and he who shall humble himself shall be exalted. ¹³ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for you do not go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in. ¹⁴ [Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: therefore you shall receive the greater condemnation.] ¹⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you cross sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves. ¹⁶ Woe to you, blind guides, who say, Whoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor! ¹⁷ You blind fools: which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifies the gold? ¹⁸ And, Whoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is upon it, he is obligated. ¹⁹ You blind fools: which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift? ²⁰ Therefore, whoever shall swear by the altar, swears by it, and by all things on it. ²¹ And whoever shall swear by the temple, swears by it, and by him who dwells in it. ²² And he who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God, and by him who sits on it. ²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, justice, mercy, and faithfulness: these you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. ²⁴ You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel. ²⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and self-indulgence. ²⁶ You blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. ²⁷ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you are like whitewashed tombs, which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but within are full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. ²⁸ Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but within you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity. ²⁹ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you build the tombs of the prophets, and adorn the sepulchres of the righteous, ³⁰ And say, If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. ³¹ Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves, that you are the sons of those who killed the prophets. ³² Fill up, then, the measure of the sins of your fathers. ³³ You serpents, you generation of vipers, how can you escape being condemned to hell? ³⁴ Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them you shall kill and crucify; and some of them you shall scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city: ³⁵ That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berachiah, whom you killed between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Truly I say to you, All these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets, and stone those who are sent to you, how often would I have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not let me! ³⁸ Behold, your house is left to you desolate. ³⁹ For I say to you, You shall not see me again, until you shall say, Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

¹⁰ And he called the multitude, and said to them, Hear, and understand: ¹¹ Not that which goes into the mouth defiles a man; but that which comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man. ¹² Then his disciples came, and said to him, Do you know that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying? ¹³ But he answered and said, Every plant which my heavenly Father has not planted shall be rooted up. ¹⁴ Let them alone: they are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch. ¹⁵ Then Peter answered and said to him, Explain to us this parable. ¹⁶ And Jesus said, Are you also still without understanding? ¹⁷ Do you not yet understand, that whatever enters in at the mouth goes into the belly, and is eliminated? ¹⁸ But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. ¹⁹ For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual immorality, thefts, false witness, slanders: ²⁰ These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man.

¹⁴ And when he had called all the people to him, he said to them, Listen to me, every one of you, and understand:

³⁸ And in his teaching he said to them, Beware of the scribes, who love to go about in long clothing, and love greetings in the marketplaces, ³⁹ And the chief seats in the synagogues, and places of honour at feasts:

¹ In the meantime, when a great crowd of people had gathered, so that they trod upon each other, he began to say first to his disciples, Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

⁵⁷ And why do you not even judge for yourselves what is right?

⁴⁵ Then in the hearing of all the people he said to his disciples, ⁴⁶ Beware of the scribes, who like to walk about in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces, and the best seats in the synagogues, and the places of honour at feasts;

Thus have you made the commandment of God void by your tradition. ⁷ You hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, ⁸ This people honours me with their lips; but their hearts are far from me. ⁹ But in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

³⁰ And he came to the second, and said the same. And he answered and said, I will, sir: but did not go.

²⁹ Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

¹⁹ And are confident that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light for those who are in darkness, ²⁰ An instructor for the foolish, a teacher of infants, having the embodiment of knowledge and truth in the law: ²¹ You, therefore, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? you who preach that a man should not steal, do you steal? ²² You who say a man should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? you who abhor idols, do you rob temples? ²³ You who make your boast in the law, do you dishonour God by breaking the law? ²⁴ For as it is written, The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.

¹ Let every man be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority but from God: and those authorities that exist have been ordained by God.

⁵ Holding to a form of godliness, but denying its power. From such men turn away.

¹⁶ They profess that they know God; but by their works they deny him; being detestable, and disobedient, and unfit for any good work.

²⁸ Come to me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. ²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest for your souls. ³⁰ For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, justice, mercy, and faithfulness: these you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.

⁴⁶ And he said, Woe to you also, lawyers! for you load men with burdens they can hardly carry, and you yourselves will not touch the burdens with one of your fingers.

¹⁰ Now then, why do you put God to the test by putting a yoke upon the necks of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

²⁸ For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

¹³ For not even those who are circumcised keep the law; but they desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh.

²⁴ But I say to you, and to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not hold to this teaching, and who have not known the depths of Satan, as they call them; I will put upon you no other burden;

¹ Take heed that you do not practice your righteousness before men, to be seen by them: otherwise you have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. ² Therefore, when you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have praise from men. Truly I say to you, They have received their reward. ³ But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing: ⁴ That your alms may be in secret: and your Father who sees in secret shall reward you. ⁵ And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and at the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, They have received their reward. ⁶ But you, when you pray, enter into your inner room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret shall reward you. ⁷ But when you pray, do not use meaningless repetition, as the Gentiles do: for they think that they shall be heard for their many words. ⁸ Therefore, do not be like them: for your Father knows what things you have need of, before you ask him. ⁹ Therefore, pray in this manner: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your name. ¹⁰ Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. ¹¹ Give us this day our daily bread. ¹² And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. ¹³ And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. ¹⁴ For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: ¹⁵ But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. ¹⁶ Moreover, when you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do: for they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen by men to be fasting. Truly I say to you, They have received their reward.

²⁰ And, behold, a woman, who had suffered for twelve years with a flow of blood, came up behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:

¹⁵ And he said to them, You justify yourselves before men; but God knows your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God.

⁴⁷ They devour widows' houses, and for a show make long prayers: they shall receive the greater condemnation.

⁴⁴ How can you believe, when you receive honour from one another, and do not seek the honour that comes from him who alone is God?

¹⁸ He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory: but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him, he is true, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

⁴³ For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

¹⁵ Some indeed preach Christ from envy and rivalry; and some also from good will;

³ Let nothing be done through selfishness or vain conceit; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem the others as better than himself. ⁴ Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he sits as God in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.

²¹ And he said to her, What do you wish? She said to him, Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, the one on your right hand, and the other on the left, in your kingdom.

⁴³ Woe to you, Pharisees! for you love the best seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the marketplaces. ⁴⁴ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you are like unmarked graves, which men walk over unaware. ⁴⁵ Then one of the lawyers answered him, Teacher, by saying this you insult us also. ⁴⁶ And he said, Woe to you also, lawyers! for you load men with burdens they can hardly carry, and you yourselves will not touch the burdens with one of your fingers. ⁴⁷ Woe to you! for you build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Truly you bear witness that you approve of the deeds of your fathers: for they killed them, and you build their tombs. ⁴⁹ For this reason also the wisdom of God said, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall kill and persecute, ⁵⁰ That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; ⁵¹ From the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the temple: truly I say to you, It shall be required of this generation. ⁵² Woe to you, lawyers! for you have taken away the key of knowledge: you did not enter in yourselves, and those who were entering in you hindered. ⁵³ And as he left, the scribes and Pharisees began to be hostile, and to question him closely on many things: ⁵⁴ Lying in wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.

⁷ And he told a parable to those who were invited, when he noticed how they chose the places of honour; saying to them, ⁸ When you are invited by someone to a wedding, do not sit down at the place of honour; for one more distinguished than you may have been invited; ⁹ And he who invited both of you will come and say to you, Give this man your place; and with shame you will begin to take the lowest place. ¹⁰ But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place; that when he who invited you comes, he may say to you, Friend, go up higher: then you shall have honour in the presence of those who are at the table with you. ¹¹ For whoever exalts himself shall be abased; and he who humbles himself shall be exalted.

¹⁰ Be devoted to one another with brotherly love; honour one another more than yourselves;

¹ My brethren, do not hold your faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality. ² For if there comes into your assembly a man with a gold ring, in fine apparel, and there also comes in a poor man in shabby clothing, ³ And you pay special attention to him who wears the fine clothing, and say to him, Sit here in a good place; and say to the poor man, Stand there, or sit here beside my footstool: ⁴ Have you not then discriminated among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?

⁹ I wrote to the church: but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, does not accept us.

⁸ But do not be called Rabbi: for one is your Teacher; and all of you are brethren.

⁵ And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Rabbi, it is good for us to be here: let us make three tabernacles; one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.

⁵¹ And Jesus said to him, What do you want that I should do for you? The blind man said to him, Master, I want to receive my sight.

³⁸ Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said to them, What do you seek? They said to him, Rabbi, (which translated means Teacher,) where are you staying?

⁴⁹ Nathanael answered and said to him, Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.

² He came to Jesus by night, and said to him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God: for no man can do the miraculous signs that you do, unless God is with him.

³ For you are still fleshly: for while there is among you envy, and strife, are you not fleshly, and walking as mere men? ⁴ For while one says, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are you not mere men? ⁵ Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each his task?

²⁴ Not that we lord it over your faith, but we work with you for your joy: for in your faith you stand firm.

⁵ For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord; and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake.

¹⁵ From whom every family in heaven and earth is named,

¹ Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, ² To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ who are at Colossae: Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father.

¹ My brethren, let not many of you be teachers, knowing that as such we shall be judged more strictly.

³ Not being lords over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock.

⁹ I, John, your brother and companion in the tribulation, and kingdom, and endurance which are ours in Jesus, was on the island that is called Patmos, because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.

¹⁰ And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said to me, Do not do that: I am a fellow servant with you and your brethren, who hold to the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

⁹ Then he said to me, Do not do that: I am a fellow servant with you and your brethren the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book: worship God.

⁸ Therefore, do not be like them: for your Father knows what things you have need of, before you ask him. ⁹ Therefore, pray in this manner: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your name.

³² After all these things the Gentiles seek: but your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things.

¹¹ If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him?

¹ Brethren, and fathers, hear my defence which I make to you now.

¹⁴ For as many as are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God. ¹⁵ For you have not received a spirit of bondage leading to fear; but you have received the Spirit of adoption, by which we cry out, Abba, Father. ¹⁶ The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: ¹⁷ And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if indeed we suffer with him that we may also be glorified with him.

¹⁵ For though you have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel.

¹⁸ And will be a Father to you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.

¹ Do not rebuke an older man, but entreat him as a father; and the younger men as brothers; ² The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, in all purity.

⁹ Furthermore, we have had earthly fathers who corrected us, and we gave them respect: shall we not much more be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and live?

¹ Behold, how great is the love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God; and so we are. The world does not know us, because it did not know him.

²⁶ But it shall not be so among you: but whoever will be great among you, let him be your servant; ²⁷ And whoever will be chief among you, let him be your slave:

⁴³ But it shall not be so among you: but whoever wishes to be great among you, shall be your servant: ⁴⁴ And whoever wants to be the first among you, shall be the slave of all.

²⁶ But not so with you: but he who is greatest among you, let him be as the youngest; and he who rules, as he who serves. ²⁷ For which is greater, he who reclines at table, or he who serves? is it not he who reclines at table? but I am among you as one who serves.

¹⁴ If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet; you also ought to wash one another's feet. ¹⁵ For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.

¹⁹ For though I am free from all men, yet I have made myself the servant to all, that I might win the more.

²³ Are they servants of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more so; in labours more abundant, in beatings beyond number, in prison more frequently, in danger of death often.

¹³ For, brethren, you have been called to liberty; only do not use your liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but in love serve one another.

⁵ Let this attitude be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: ⁶ Who, though being in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped: ⁷ But made himself of no reputation, and took upon himself the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: ⁸ And being found in form as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

³ Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

⁴ Therefore, whoever shall humble himself as this little child, he is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

⁵¹ He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered those who were proud in the imagination of their hearts. ⁵² He has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted the humble.

¹¹ For whoever exalts himself shall be abased; and he who humbles himself shall be exalted.

¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one who exalts himself shall be abased; and he who humbles himself shall be exalted.

⁶ But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

⁵ Likewise, you who are younger, submit yourselves to the elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another: for God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father? They said to him, The first. Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you, That the tax gatherers and the prostitutes go into the kingdom of God before you. ³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him: but the tax gatherers and the prostitutes believed him: and even when you had seen this, you did not afterward repent and believe him.

⁴⁶ The officers answered, Never did a man speak like this man. ⁴⁷ Then the Pharisees answered them, Are you also deceived? ⁴⁸ Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed in him? ⁴⁹ But this crowd, which does not know the law, is cursed. ⁵⁰ Nicodemus (who came to Jesus earlier, and who was one of them) said to them, ⁵¹ Does our law judge any man, before it hears him, and knows what he is doing? ⁵² They answered and said to him, Are you also from Galilee? Search, and see: no prophet arises out of Galilee.

²² His parents said this because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man confessed him to be the Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue.

²⁴ Then again they called the man who was blind, and said to him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.

³⁴ They answered and said to him, You were born in utter sin, and do you teach us? And they cast him out.

¹⁷ But that it may spread no further among the people, let us sternly warn them, that they speak no more to any man in this name. ¹⁸ And they called them, and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.

²⁸ Did we not sternly command you that you should not teach in this name? and, behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and you intend to bring this man's blood upon us.

⁴⁰ And they agreed with him: and when they had called in the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

¹ And Saul was consenting to his death. And on that day a great persecution began against the church in Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.

⁸ But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name translated) opposed them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.

¹⁵ Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us. They do not please God, and oppose all men, ¹⁶ By hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles that they might be saved, thus always filling up their sins to the limit: but wrath has come upon them at last.

⁸ Now as Jannes and Jambres defied Moses, so these men also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, rejected as concerns the faith.

¹⁵ You also beware of him; for he has greatly opposed our message.

²⁴ But I say to you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for you.

³³ You serpents, you generation of vipers, how can you escape being condemned to hell? ³⁴ Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them you shall kill and crucify; and some of them you shall scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city: ³⁵ That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berachiah, whom you killed between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Truly I say to you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

⁴⁰ They devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater condemnation.

⁴⁸ But he who did not know, and committed things worthy of a beating, shall be beaten with few blows. For to whomever much is given, of him shall much be required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask all the more.

⁶ For among them are those who creep into houses, and lead captive weak-willed women laden with sins, led away by various desires,

¹⁰ For there are many unruly and empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision: ¹¹ Whose mouths must be stopped, for they are subverting whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for sordid gain.

³ And in greed they shall exploit you with false words: the judgment against them from of old does not linger, and their condemnation does not slumber.

¹⁴ Having eyes full of adultery, who cannot cease from sin; enticing unstable souls: they have a heart trained in greed; cursed children: ¹⁵ Who have forsaken the right way, and have gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

²² But I say to you, That whoever is angry with his brother shall be in danger of judgment: and whoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whoever shall say, You fool, shall be in danger of the hell of fire.

²⁹ And if your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out, and cast it from you: for it is better for you that one of your members should perish, than that your whole body should be cast into hell.

⁴⁴ You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature: for he is a liar, and the father of lies.

¹⁰ Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya around Cyrene, and strangers from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,

⁵ And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch.

¹⁰ And said, You who are full of all deceit and all villainy, you child of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

⁴³ Now when the congregation had broken up, many of the Jews and devout converts followed Paul and Barnabas: who spoke to them, urging them to continue in the grace of God.

² But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and poisoned their minds against the brethren.

¹⁹ And certain Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, who, having persuaded the people, stoned Paul, and dragged him out of the city, supposing he was dead.

⁵ But the Jews who did not believe were moved with envy, and took certain wicked fellows of the rabble, and gathered a crowd, and set all the city in an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people. ⁶ And when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and certain brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also;

¹³ But when the Jews of Thessalonica learned that the word of God was being preached by Paul at Beroea, they came there also, and stirred up the people.

¹⁷ They zealously seek you, but not for good; they would alienate you, that you might seek them.

¹² Those who desire to make a good showing in the flesh would compel you to be circumcised; but only to avoid suffering persecution for the cross of Christ.

³ Among them we all lived in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, like the others.

³³ Again, you have heard that it has been said to them of old, You shall not swear falsely, but shall fulfill your oaths to the Lord: ³⁴ But I say to you, Do not swear at all; either by heaven; for it is God's throne: ³⁵ Or by the earth; for it is his footstool: or by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.

⁵ But you say, Whoever shall say to his father or his mother, Whatever of mine might benefit you is a gift to God; ⁶ Then he is free not to honour his father or his mother. Thus have you made the commandment of God void by your tradition.

¹⁴ Let them alone: they are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

¹⁷ You blind fools: which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifies the gold?

¹⁹ You blind fools: which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?

²⁴ You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel.

²⁶ You blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

¹⁰ For Moses said, Honour your father and your mother; and, Whoever curses father or mother, let him be put to death: ¹¹ But you say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, whatever I have that might benefit you is Corban, that is to say, a gift to God, ¹² Then you do not allow him to do anything for his father or his mother; ¹³ Thus making the word of God invalid through your tradition, which you have handed down: and you do many such things.

³⁹ And Jesus said, For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see might see; and that those who see might be made blind. ⁴⁰ And some of the Pharisees who were with him heard these words, and said to him, Are we blind also? ⁴¹ Jesus said to them, If you were blind, you would have no sin: but now you say, We see; therefore your sin remains.

³ For I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is obliged to obey the whole law.

¹² But above all things, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven, or by the earth, or with any other oath: but let your yes be yes; and your no, no; lest you fall into condemnation.

²² In whom you also are built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.

⁹ For in him all the fulness of Deity dwells in bodily form.

³⁴ But I say to you, Do not swear at all; either by heaven; for it is God's throne:

⁴⁹ Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will you build for me? says the Lord: or what is the place in which I can rest?

² And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was standing in heaven, and one sat on the throne. ³ And he who sat there appeared like jasper and carnelian: and there was a rainbow around the throne, like an emerald in appearance.

¹⁹ Therefore, whoever shall break one of the least commandments, and shall so teach men to do, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. ²⁰ For I say to you, That unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall never enter into the kingdom of heaven.

¹³ But go and learn what this means, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.

⁷ But if you had known what this means, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, you would not have condemned the guiltless.

³⁷ Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. ³⁸ This is the first and greatest commandment. ³⁹ And the second is like it, You shall love your neighbour as yourself. ⁴⁰ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

⁴² But woe to you, Pharisees! for you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, but neglect justice and the love of God: these you ought to have done, and not left the others undone.

¹² I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³ Gentleness, self-control: against such things there is no law.

⁴ Or how can you say to your brother, Let me pull the speck out of your eye; and, behold, a beam is in your own eye?

² Why do your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they do not wash their hands when they eat bread. ³ But he answered and said to them, Why do you transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? ⁴ For God commanded, saying, Honour your father and mother: and, He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.

²⁴ And again I say to you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

¹⁶ Woe to you, blind guides, who say, Whoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!

⁶ And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood. ⁷ And they took counsel, and bought with the money the potter's field, to bury strangers in. ⁸ Therefore that field has been called, The field of blood, to this day.

⁷ And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, to see if he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find a reason to accuse him. ⁸ But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man with the withered hand, Rise up, and stand here. And he arose and stood there. ⁹ Then Jesus said to them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it? ¹⁰ And looking around at them all, he said to the man, Stretch forth your hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored.

²⁸ Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the praetorium: and it was early; and they themselves did not go into the praetorium, so they would not be defiled, but might eat the passover.

⁴⁰ Then they all cried again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.

⁴ And when they come from the market, unless they wash, they do not eat. And there are many other traditions which they observe, such as the washing of cups, and pots, and vessels of copper.) ⁵ Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why do your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but rather eat bread with unwashed hands? ⁶ He answered and said to them, Well has Isaiah prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honours me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. ⁷ In vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. ⁸ Laying aside the commandment of God, you hold to the traditions of men. ⁹ And he said to them, You fully reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your own tradition.

³⁹ And the Lord said to him, Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but inside you are full of greed and wickedness. ⁴⁰ You fools, did not he who made the outside also make the inside?

³³ Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and its fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by its fruit.

⁴⁵ A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth that which is evil: for from the overflow of the heart his mouth speaks.

¹ Therefore, having these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

²² Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

⁸ Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

⁴⁴ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you are like unmarked graves, which men walk over unaware.

³ Then Paul said to him, God shall strike you, you whitewashed wall: do you sit to judge me according to the law, yet contrary to the law command me to be struck?

³⁴ You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. ³⁵ A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things: and an evil man out of his evil treasure brings forth evil things.

⁵ But all their works they do to be seen by men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, ²² Covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lustfulness, envy, slander, pride, foolishness: ²³ All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

¹² For the word of God is alive, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intents of the heart. ¹³ Nor is there any creature concealed from his sight: but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

⁴⁷ Woe to you! for you build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Truly you bear witness that you approve of the deeds of your fathers: for they killed them, and you build their tombs.

²⁹ Brethren, let me say confidently to you of the patriarch David; that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.

³⁵ And the tenants took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again, he sent other servants, more than the first: and they did the same to them.

³⁴ Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them you shall kill and crucify; and some of them you shall scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city: ³⁵ That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berachiah, whom you killed between the temple and the altar.

²² And he said to him, Out of your own mouth will I judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I was a severe man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow:

⁵¹ You stiffnecked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit: as your fathers did, so you do. ⁵² Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? and they killed those who told beforehand of the coming of the Righteous One; whom you have now betrayed and murdered:

¹⁶ By hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles that they might be saved, thus always filling up their sins to the limit: but wrath has come upon them at last.

⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come for baptism, he said to them, You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

³⁴ You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

³⁴ And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants, that they might collect his fruit. ³⁵ And the tenants took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.

⁷ Then he said to the multitude that came forth to be baptized by him, O generation of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

³ But I fear, lest, as the serpent deceived Eve through his cunning, so your minds will be led astray from the simplicity that is in Christ.

³ How shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation? It was at first announced by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard him;

²⁹ How much more severe punishment do you suppose he shall deserve, who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant, with which he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and has affronted the Spirit of grace?

²⁵ See that you do not refuse him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused him who warned them on earth, much less shall we escape, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven.

⁹ And the great dragon was cast down, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, who deceives the whole world: he was cast down to the earth, and his angels were cast down with him.

¹⁶ Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: therefore be as wise as serpents, and as harmless as doves. ¹⁷ But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;

²³ But when they persecute you in this city, flee into another: for truly I say to you, You shall not have gone through the cities of Israel, before the Son of man comes.

⁵² Then he said to them, Therefore every scribe who is instructed about the kingdom of heaven is like a man who is an owner of a house, who brings forth out of his treasure things new and old.

¹⁹ Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit: ²⁰ Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

⁴⁹ For this reason also the wisdom of God said, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall kill and persecute, ⁵⁰ That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; ⁵¹ From the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the temple: truly I say to you, It shall be required of this generation.

⁴⁷ And that repentance for forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

² They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time comes when whoever kills you will think that he is serving God.

²¹ Then Jesus said to them again, Peace be with you: as my Father has sent me, even so I send you.

⁸ But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you: and you shall be witnesses to me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and to the remotest part of the earth.

⁵⁸ And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul. ⁵⁹ And as they stoned Stephen he called upon God, saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

¹ And Saul, still breathing out threats and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest, ² And asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

²⁷ And in these days prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.

² And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

¹ Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen, who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

³² And Judas and Silas, being prophets themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and strengthened them.

¹⁹ And I said, Lord, they know that in every synagogue I imprisoned and beat those who believed in you: ²⁰ And when the blood of your martyr Stephen was shed, I was standing by, and consenting to his death, and kept the garments of those who killed him.

⁶ Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the rulers of this world, who are being brought to nothing:

¹⁰ According to the grace of God which is given to me, as a wise master builder, I have laid the foundation, and another builds upon it. But let every man take heed how he builds upon it.

³ Therefore, I want you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit. ⁴ Now there are various kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. ⁵ And there are various kinds of service, but the same Lord. ⁶ And there are various kinds of working, but it is the same God who works all of them in all men. ⁷ But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each man for the common good. ⁸ For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; ⁹ To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by that one Spirit; ¹⁰ To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another various kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: ¹¹ But all these things are by one and the same Spirit, who distributes to every man as he wills.

²⁴ From the Jews I five times received forty lashes less one. ²⁵ Thrice I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have spent in the deep;

⁸ Therefore it says, When he ascended on high, he led a host of captives, and gave gifts to men. ⁹ (In saying that he ascended, what does that mean but that he also descended into the lower parts of the earth? ¹⁰ He who descended is the same one who ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.) ¹¹ And he gave some as apostles; and some as prophets; and some as evangelists; and some as pastors and teachers; ¹² For the equipping of the saints for the work of the ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ:

²⁸ Him we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.

³⁷ They were stoned, they were sawn apart, they were tempted, they were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;

¹⁰ And those who live upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts to one another; because these two prophets tormented those who dwell upon the earth.

⁵¹ From the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the temple: truly I say to you, It shall be required of this generation.

⁴ By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, and by it he obtained the testimony that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by faith, though he is dead, yet he speaks.

²⁴ And to Jesus, the mediator of the new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood, that speaks better things than that of Abel.

¹¹ For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. ¹² Do not be like Cain, who was of the wicked one, and killed his brother. And why did he kill him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's were righteous.

²⁴ And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all who have been slain upon the earth.

³⁴ Truly I say to you, This generation shall not pass away, until all these things are fulfilled.

³⁰ Truly I say to you, that this generation shall not pass away, until all these things have happened. ³¹ Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

³² Truly I say to you, This generation shall not pass away, until all is fulfilled. ³³ Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

¹² Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

³ And sent forth his servants to call those who were invited to the marriage feast: but they would not come.

⁶ And the rest took his servants, and treated them spitefully, and killed them.

³⁰ And say, If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.

³ But they caught him, and beat him, and sent him away empty-handed. ⁴ And he sent to them another servant; and they wounded him in the head, and treated him shamefully. ⁵ And he sent another; but they killed him, and so they did to many others; beating some, and killing some. ⁶ Having yet one more to send, his well-beloved son, he sent him last of all to them, saying, They will respect my son.

³⁴ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to you; how often would I have gathered your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not allow it! ³⁵ Behold, your house is left to you desolate: and truly I say to you, You shall not see me, until the time comes when you shall say, Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

¹⁷ And at the banquet time he sent his servant to say to those who were invited, Come; for everything is now ready. ¹⁸ And they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, I have bought a piece of land, and I must go and see it: Please excuse me. ¹⁹ And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them out: Please excuse me. ²⁰ And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

²⁸ And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore his father came out, and pleaded with him.

¹⁴ But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We do not want this man to reign over us. ¹⁵ And it came to pass, that when he returned, having received the kingdom, that he commanded the servants to whom he had given the money to be called to him, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. ¹⁶ The first came, saying, Lord, your mina has gained ten minas. ¹⁷ And he said to him, Well done, you good servant: because you have been faithful in a very little, take authority over ten cities. ¹⁸ And the second came, saying, Lord, your mina has gained five minas. ¹⁹ And he said likewise to him, You shall be in authority over five cities. ²⁰ And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is your mina, which I have kept laid up in a handkerchief: ²¹ For I feared you, because you are a severe man: you take up what you have not laid down, and reap what you did not sow. ²² And he said to him, Out of your own mouth will I judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I was a severe man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow: ²³ Why then did you not put my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have collected it with interest? ²⁴ And he said to those who stood by, Take from him the mina, and give it to him who has ten minas. ²⁵ And they said to him, Lord, he already has ten minas. ²⁶ I say to you, To everyone who has shall more be given; and from him who has not, even what he has shall be taken away from him. ²⁷ As for my enemies, those who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here, and kill them in front of me. ²⁸ And when he had spoken these things, he went on ahead, ascending to Jerusalem. ²⁹ And it came to pass, when he had come near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called Olivet, he sent two of his disciples, ³⁰ Saying, Go into the village opposite you; and as you enter it you shall find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat: untie it, and bring it here. ³¹ And if anyone asks you, Why are you untying it? you shall say, Because the Lord has need of it. ³² And those who were sent went their way, and found it as he had said. ³³ And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, Why are you untying the colt? ³⁴ And they said, The Lord has need of it. ³⁵ And they brought it to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they put Jesus on it. ³⁶ And as he went, they spread their clothes on the road. ³⁷ And as he was coming near, at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; ³⁸ Saying, Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. ³⁹ And some of the Pharisees in the multitude said to him, Teacher, rebuke your disciples. ⁴⁰ And he answered and said to them, I tell you that if they should hold their peace, the very stones would cry out. ⁴¹ And when he had come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, ⁴² Saying, If you, even you, had only known on this day, the things which make for peace! but now they are hidden from your eyes. ⁴³ For the days shall come upon you, when your enemies shall build an embankment about you, and surround you, and keep you in on every side, ⁴⁴ And shall level you to the ground, and your children within you; and they shall not leave in you one stone upon another; because you did not know the time of your visitation.

¹¹ He sent another servant: and they beat him also, and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed. ¹² And he sent a third: and they wounded him, and cast him out. ¹³ Then the lord of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will respect him when they see him. ¹⁴ But when the tenants saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.

¹⁵ Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us. They do not please God, and oppose all men,

⁷ And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them. ⁸ And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which figuratively is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.

⁶ And I saw the woman drunk with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered greatly.

² And Jesus said to them, Do you not see all these things? truly I say to you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

¹⁴ When you see the abomination of desolation standing where it should not be, (let him who reads understand,) then let those who are in Judaea flee to the mountains:

³⁵ Behold, your house is left to you desolate: and truly I say to you, You shall not see me, until the time comes when you shall say, Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

⁶ As for these things which you behold, the days will come, in which there shall not be one stone left upon another; every one of them shall be thrown down.

²⁰ And when you shall see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near.

²⁴ And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

¹³ And they set up false witnesses, who said, This man does not cease to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law: ¹⁴ For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered to us.

⁹ And the multitudes that went before, and that followed after, cried out, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.

²⁶ And it was revealed to him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. ²⁷ And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law, ²⁸ He took him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, ²⁹ Lord, now let your servant depart in peace, according to your word: ³⁰ For my eyes have seen your salvation,

²² All things have been given to me by my Father: and no man knows who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. ²³ And he turned to his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that you see:

²² And he said to the disciples, The days will come, when you shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and you shall not see it.

²¹ Then Jesus said again to them, I go my way, and you shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: where I go, you cannot come.

²⁴ Therefore I said to you, that you shall die in your sins: for if you do not believe that I am he, you shall die in your sins.

⁵⁶ Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.

⁹ Jesus said to him, Have I been so long with you, and yet you do not know me, Philip? he who has seen me has seen the Father; and how then do you say, Show us the Father?

¹⁹ Yet a little while, and the world will see me no more; but you shall see me: because I live, you also shall live.

²⁵ Brethren, I would not have you be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own conceits; that a hardening in part has happened to Israel, until the full number of Gentiles has come in.

¹⁴ But their minds were hardened: for to this day the same veil remains unlifted at the reading of the old covenant; because it is only removed through Christ. ¹⁵ But even to this day, when Moses is read, the veil is upon their hearts. ¹⁶ But whenever a man shall turn to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away. ¹⁷ Now the Lord is the Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. ¹⁸ But we all, with unveiled faces beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are changed into that same image, from glory to glory, and this is from the Lord, the Spirit.
