¹ And Jesus was walking after these things in Galilee, for he did not wish to walk in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him, ² and the feast of the Jews was near -- that of tabernacles -- ³ his brethren, therefore, said unto him, 'Remove hence, and go away to Judea, that your disciples also may behold your works that you do; ⁴ for no one in secret does anything, and himself seeks to be in public; if you do these things -- manifest yourself to the world;' ⁵ for not even were his brethren believing in him. ⁶ Jesus, therefore, said to them, 'My time is not yet present, but your time is always ready; ⁷ the world is not able to hate you, but me it does hate, because I testify concerning it that its works are evil. ⁸ You -- go you up to this feast; I do not yet go up to this feast, because my time has not yet been fulfilled;' ⁹ and saying these things to them, he remained in Galilee. ¹⁰ And when his brethren went up, then also he himself went up to the feast, not manifestly, but as in secret; ¹¹ the Jews, therefore, were seeking him, in the feast, and said, 'Where is that one?' ¹² and there was much murmuring about him among the multitudes, some indeed said -- 'He is good;' and others said, 'No, but he leads astray the multitude;' ¹³ no one, however, was speaking freely about him, through fear of the Jews. ¹⁴ And it being now the middle of the feast, Jesus went up to the temple, and he was teaching, ¹⁵ and the Jews were wondering, saying, 'How has this one known letters -- not having learned?' ¹⁶ Jesus answered them and said, 'My teaching is not mine, but His who sent me; ¹⁷ if any one may will to do His will, he shall know concerning the teaching, whether it is of God, or -- I do speak from myself. ¹⁸ 'He who is speaking from himself his own glory does seek, but he who is seeking the glory of him who sent him, this one is true, and unrighteousness is not in him; ¹⁹ has not Moses given you the law? and none of you does the law; why me do you seek to kill?' ²⁰ The multitude answered and said, 'You have a demon, who does seek to kill you?' ²¹ Jesus answered and said to them, 'One work I did, and you all wonder, ²² because of this, Moses has given you the circumcision -- not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers -- and on a sabbath you circumcise a man; ²³ if a man does receive circumcision on a sabbath that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you wroth with me that I made a man all whole on a sabbath? ²⁴ judge not according to appearance, but the righteous judgment judge.' ²⁵ Certain, therefore, of the Jerusalemites said, 'Is not this he whom they are seeking to kill? ²⁶ and, lo, he does speak freely, and they say nothing to him; did the rulers at all know truly that this is truly the Christ? ²⁷ but this one -- we have known whence he is; and the Christ, when he does come, no one does know whence he is.' ²⁸ Jesus cried, therefore, in the temple, teaching and saying, 'You have both known me, and you have known whence I am; and I have not come of myself, but He who sent me is true, whom you have not known; ²⁹ and I have known Him, because I am from Him, and He did send me.' ³⁰ They were seeking, therefore, to seize him, and no one laid the hand on him, because his hour had not yet come, ³¹ and many out of the multitude did believe in him, and said -- 'The Christ -- when he may come -- will he do more signs than these that this one did?' ³² The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers that they may take him; ³³ Jesus, therefore, said to them, 'Yet a little time I am with you, and I go away unto Him who sent me; ³⁴ you will seek me, and you shall not find; and where I am, you are not able to come.' ³⁵ The Jews, therefore, said among themselves, 'Whither is this one about to go that we shall not find him? -- to the dispersion of the Greeks is he about to go? and to teach the Greeks; ³⁶ what is this word that he said, You will seek me, and you shall not find? and, Where I am, you are not able to come?' ³⁷ And in the last, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, 'If any one does thirst, let him come unto me and drink; ³⁸ he who is believing in me, according as the Writing said, Rivers out of his belly shall flow of living water;' ³⁹ and this he said of the Spirit, which those believing in him were about to receive; for not yet was the Holy Spirit, because Jesus was not yet glorified. ⁴⁰ Many, therefore out of the multitude, having heard the word, said, 'This is truly the Prophet;' ⁴¹ others said, 'This is the Christ;' and others said, 'Why, out of Galilee does the Christ come? ⁴² Did not the Writing say, that out of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem -- the village where David was -- the Christ does come?' ⁴³ A division, therefore, arose among the multitude because of him. ⁴⁴ And certain of them were willing to seize him, but no one laid hands on him; ⁴⁵ the officers came, therefore, unto the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, 'Therefore did you not bring him?' ⁴⁶ The officers answered, 'Never so spake man -- as this man.' ⁴⁷ The Pharisees, therefore, answered them, 'Have you also been led astray? ⁴⁸ did any one out of the rulers believe in him? or out of the Pharisees? ⁴⁹ but this multitude, that is not knowing the law, is accursed.' ⁵⁰ Nicodemus said unto them -- he who came by night unto him -- being one of them, ⁵¹ 'Does our law judge the man, if it may not hear from him first, and know what he does?' ⁵² They answered and said to him, 'Art you also out of Galilee? search and see, that a prophet out of Galilee has not risen;' ⁵³ and each one went on to his house, but Jesus went on to the mount of the Olives.

²³ 'And whenever they may persecute you in this city, flee to the other, for verily I say to you, you may not have completed the cities of Israel till the Son of Man may come.

³⁸ and the husbandmen having seen the son, said among themselves, This is the heir, come, we may kill him, and may possess his inheritance;

³¹ On that day there came near certain Pharisees, saying to him, 'Go forth, and be going on hence, for Herod does wish to kill you;' ³² and he said to them, 'Having gone, say to this fox, Lo, I cast forth demons, and perfect cures to-day and to-morrow, and the third day I am being perfected; ³³ but it is necessary for me to-day, and to-morrow, and the day following, to go on, because it is not possible for a prophet to perish out of Jerusalem.

¹⁹ And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent out of Jerusalem priests and Levites, that they might question him, 'Who are you?'

³ he left Judea and went away again to Galilee,

⁵⁴ this again a second sign did Jesus, having come out of Judea to Galilee.

¹⁶ and because of this were the Jews persecuting Jesus, and seeking to kill him, because these things he was doing on a sabbath. ¹⁷ And Jesus answered them, 'My Father till now does work, and I work;' ¹⁸ because of this, then, were the Jews seeking the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the sabbath, but he also called God his own Father, making himself equal to God.

¹⁹ has not Moses given you the law? and none of you does the law; why me do you seek to kill?'

²⁵ Certain, therefore, of the Jerusalemites said, 'Is not this he whom they are seeking to kill?

³⁷ 'I have known that you are seed of Abraham, but you seek to kill me, because my word has no place in you;

⁴⁰ and now, you seek to kill me -- a man who has spoken to you the truth I heard from God; this Abraham did not;

³⁹ Therefore were they seeking again to seize him, and he went forth out of their hand, ⁴⁰ and went away again to the other side of the Jordan, to the place where John was at first baptizing, and remained there,

⁵³ From that day, therefore, they took counsel together that they may kill him; ⁵⁴ Jesus, therefore, was no more freely walking among the Jews, but went away thence to the region near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim, and there he tarried with his disciples.

³⁸ Jesus who is from Nazareth -- how God did anoint him with the Holy Spirit and power; who went through, doing good, and healing all those oppressed by the devil, because God was with him;

⁴⁶ And while he was yet speaking to the multitudes, lo, his mother and brethren had stood without, seeking to speak to him,

¹⁶ and they send to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, 'Teacher, we have known that you are true, and the way of God in truth you do teach, and you are not caring for any one, for you do not look to the face of men; ¹⁷ tell us, therefore, what do you think? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not?'

³¹ Then come do his brethren and mother, and standing without, they sent unto him, calling him,

¹⁹ And there came unto him his mother and brethren, and they were not able to get to him because of the multitude,

⁵ for not even were his brethren believing in him.

¹⁰ And when his brethren went up, then also he himself went up to the feast, not manifestly, but as in secret;

¹⁴ and Peter having stood up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and declared to them, 'Men, Jews! and all those dwelling in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and hearken to my sayings,

⁶ and said to him, 'If Son you are of God -- cast yourself down, for it has been written, that, His messengers He shall charge concerning you, and on hands they shall bear you up, that you may not dash on a stone your foot.'

¹ 'Take heed your kindness not to do before men, to be seen by them, and if not -- reward you have not from your Father who is in the heavens; ² whenever, therefore, you may do kindness, you may not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do, in the synagogues, and in the streets, that they may have glory from men; verily I say to you -- they have their reward!

⁵ 'And when you may pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites, because they love in the synagogues, and in the corners of the broad places -- standing -- to pray, that they may be seen of men; verily I say to you, that they have their reward.

¹⁶ 'And when you may fast, be you not as the hypocrites, of sour countenances, for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear to men fasting; verily I say to you, that they have their reward.

⁵ 'And all their works they do to be seen by men, and they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the fringes of their garments,

⁴⁵ 'The good man out of the good treasure of his heart does bring forth that which is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart does bring forth that which is evil; for out of the abounding of the heart does his mouth speak.

²⁰ Jesus answered him, 'I spake freely to the world, I did always teach in a synagogue, and in the temple, where the Jews do always come together; and in secret I spake nothing;

⁴ and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, according as the Spirit was giving them to declare. ⁵ And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation of those under the heaven, ⁶ and the rumour of this having come, the multitude came together, and was confounded, because they were each one hearing them speaking in his proper dialect, ⁷ and they were all amazed, and did wonder, saying one unto another, 'Lo, are not all these who are speaking Galileans? ⁸ and how do we hear, each in our proper dialect, in which we were born? ⁹ Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and those dwelling in Mesopotamia, in Judea also, and Cappadocia, Pontus, and Asia, ¹⁰ Phrygia also, and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the parts of Libya, that are along Cyrene, and the strangers of Rome, both Jews and proselytes, ¹¹ Cretes and Arabians, we did hear them speaking in our tongues the great things of God.' ¹² And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one unto another, 'What would this wish to be?'

²¹ and his friends having heard, went forth to lay hold on him, for they said that he was beside himself,

¹¹ to his own things he came, and his own people did not receive him; ¹² but as many as did receive him to them he gave authority to become sons of God -- to those believing in his name, ¹³ who -- not of blood nor of a will of flesh, nor of a will of man but -- of God were begotten.

³ his brethren, therefore, said unto him, 'Remove hence, and go away to Judea, that your disciples also may behold your works that you do;

¹⁸ And he said, 'Go away to the city, unto such a one, and say to him, The Teacher said, My time is near; near you I keep the passover, with my disciples;'

⁴ Jesus said to her, 'What -- to me and to you, woman? not yet is mine hour come.'

⁸ You -- go you up to this feast; I do not yet go up to this feast, because my time has not yet been fulfilled;'

³⁰ They were seeking, therefore, to seize him, and no one laid the hand on him, because his hour had not yet come,

²⁰ These sayings spake Jesus in the treasury, teaching in the temple, and no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come;

¹ And before the feast of the passover, Jesus knowing that his hour has come, that he may remove out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own who are in the world -- to the end he loved them.

¹ These things spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to the heaven, and said -- 'Father, the hour has come, glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You,

⁷ and he said unto them, 'It is not yours to know times or seasons that the Father did appoint in His own authority;

²⁶ 'Woo to you when all men shall speak well of you -- for according to these things were their fathers doing to false prophets.

³⁹ And the Lord said unto him, 'Now do ye, the Pharisees, the outside of the cup and of the plate make clean, but your inward part is full of rapine and wickedness; ⁴⁰ unthinking! did not He who made the outside also the inside make? ⁴¹ But what you have give you as alms, and, lo, all things are clean to you. ⁴² 'But woo to you, the Pharisees, because you tithe the mint, and the rue, and every herb, and you pass by the judgment, and the love of God; these things it is beneficial to do, and those not to be neglecting. ⁴³ 'Woo to you, the Pharisees, because you love the first seats in the synagogues, and the salutations in the market-places. ⁴⁴ 'Woo to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you are as the unseen tombs, and the men walking above have not known.' ⁴⁵ And one of the lawyers answering, said to him, 'Teacher, these things saying, us also you do insult;' ⁴⁶ and he said, 'And to you, the lawyers, woo! because you burden men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves with one of your fingers do not touch the burdens. ⁴⁷ 'Woo to you, because you build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Then do you testify, and are well pleased with the works of your fathers, because they indeed killed them, and you do build their tombs; ⁴⁹ because of this also the wisdom of God said: I will send to them prophets, and apostles, and some of them they shall kill and persecute, ⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets, that is being poured forth from the foundation of the world, may be required from this generation; ⁵¹ from the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, who perished between the altar and the house; yes, I say to you, It shall be required from this generation. ⁵² 'Woo to you, the lawyers, because you took away the key of the knowledge; yourselves you did not enter; and those coming in, you did hinder.' ⁵³ And in his speaking these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began fearfully to urge and to press him to speak about many things, ⁵⁴ laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.

¹⁹ 'And this is the judgment, that the light has come to the world, and men did love the darkness rather than the light, for their works were evil;

¹⁸ if the world does hate you, you know that it has hated me before you; ¹⁹ if of the world you were, the world its own would have been loving, and because of the world you are not -- but I chose out of the world -- because of this the world hates you.

²³ 'He who is hating me, does hate also my Father; ²⁴ if I did not do among them the works that no other has done, they were not having sin, and now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father; ²⁵ but -- that the word may be fulfilled that was written in their law -- They hated me without a cause.

¹⁴ I have given to them Your word, and the world did hate them, because they are not of the world, as I am not of the world;

²⁸ saying, 'Did not we strictly command you not to teach in this name? and lo, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring upon us the blood of this man.' ²⁹ And Peter and the apostles answering, said, 'To obey God it behooves, rather than men; ³⁰ and the God of our fathers did raise up Jesus, whom you slew, having hanged upon a tree; ³¹ this one God, a Prince and a Saviour, has exalted with His right hand, to give reformation to Israel, and forgiveness of sins; ³² and we are His witnesses of these sayings, and the Holy Spirit also, whom God gave to those obeying him.' ³³ And they having heard, were cut to the heart, and were taking counsel to slay them,

⁵¹ 'You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and in ears! you do always the Holy Spirit resist; as your fathers -- also you; ⁵² which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? and they killed those who declared before about the coming of the Righteous One, of whom now you betrayers and murderers have become, ⁵³ who received the law by arrangement of messengers, and did not keep it.' ⁵⁴ And hearing these things, they were cut to the hearts, and did gnash the teeth at him;

⁷ because the mind of the flesh is enmity to God, for to the law of God it does not subject itself,

¹⁶ so that your enemy have I become, being true to you?

⁴ Adulterers and adulteresses! have you not known that friendship of the world is enmity with God? whoever, then, may counsel to be a friend of the world, an enemy of God he is set.

¹² not as Cain -- of the evil one he was, and he did slay his brother, and therefore did he slay him? because his works were evil, and those of his brother righteous. ¹³ Do not wonder, my brethren, if the world does hate you;

⁵ They -- of the world they are; because of this from the world they speak, and the world does hear them;

⁵ and if any one may will to injure them, fire does proceed out of their mouth, and does devour their enemies, and if any one may will to injure them, thus it behooves him to be killed. ⁶ These have authority to shut the heaven, that it may not rain in the days of their prophecy, and authority they have over the waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the land with every plague, as often as they may will. ⁷ 'And when they may finish their testimony, the beast that is coming up out of the abyss shall make war with them, and overcome them, and kill them, ⁸ and their dead bodies are upon the broad-place of the great city (that is called spiritually Sodom, and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified,) ⁹ and they shall behold -- they of the peoples, and tribes, and tongues, and nations -- their dead bodies three days and a half, and their dead bodies they shall not allow to be put into tombs, ¹⁰ and those dwelling upon the land shall rejoice over them, and shall make merry, and gifts they shall send to one another, because these -- the two prophets -- did torment those dwelling upon the land.' ¹¹ And after the three days and a half, a spirit of life from God did enter into them, and they stood upon their feet, and great fear fell upon those beholding them,

⁶ Jesus, therefore, said to them, 'My time is not yet present, but your time is always ready;

³⁰ As he is speaking these things, many believed in him;

⁶ when, therefore, he heard that he is ailing, then indeed he remained in the place in which he was two days, ⁷ then after this, he said to the disciples, 'We may go to Judea again;'

¹⁵ and he who is spiritual, does discern indeed all things, and he himself is by no one discerned; ¹⁶ for who did know the mind of the Lord that he shall instruct Him? and we -- we have the mind of Christ.

¹⁵ But Jesus answering said to him, 'Permit now, for thus it is becoming to us to fulfill all righteousness,' then he does permit him.

¹⁶ 'Lo, I do send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves, be you therefore wise as the serpents, and simple as the doves.

⁵⁴ Jesus, therefore, was no more freely walking among the Jews, but went away thence to the region near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim, and there he tarried with his disciples.

⁴ and when the fulness of time did come, God sent forth His Son, come of a woman, come under law,

⁵⁶ they were seeking, therefore, Jesus, and said one with another, standing in the temple, 'What does appear to you -- that he may not come to the feast?'

²⁵ sufficient to the disciple that he may be as his teacher, and the servant as his lord; if the master of the house they did call Beelzeboul, how much more those of his household?

¹³ And Jesus, having come to the parts of Caesarea Philippi, was asking his disciples, saying, 'Who do men say me to be -- the Son of Man?' ¹⁴ And they said, 'Some, John the Baptist, and others, Elijah, and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.' ¹⁵ He said to them, 'And you -- who do you say me to be?' ¹⁶ And Simon Peter answering said, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.'

⁴⁶ and seeking to lay hold on him, they feared the multitudes, seeing they were holding him as a prophet.

⁶³ saying, 'Sir, we have remembered that that deceiver said while yet living, After three days I do rise;

¹⁶ and fear took hold of all, and they were glorifying God, saying -- 'A great prophet has risen among us,' and -- 'God did look upon His people.'

¹⁹ And Jesus said to him, 'Why me do you call good? no one is good, except One -- God;

⁴⁷ And the centurion having seen what was done, did glorify God, saying, 'Really this man was righteous;'

⁵⁰ And lo, a man, by name Joseph, being a counsellor, a man good and righteous,

¹⁴ The men, then, having seen the sign that Jesus did, said -- 'This is truly the Prophet, who is coming to the world;'

²⁵ Certain, therefore, of the Jerusalemites said, 'Is not this he whom they are seeking to kill? ²⁶ and, lo, he does speak freely, and they say nothing to him; did the rulers at all know truly that this is truly the Christ? ²⁷ but this one -- we have known whence he is; and the Christ, when he does come, no one does know whence he is.'

¹⁹ Therefore, again, there came a division among the Jews, because of these words, ²⁰ and many of them said, 'He has a demon, and is mad, why do you hear him?' ²¹ others said, 'These sayings are not those of a demoniac; is a demon able blind men's eyes to open?'

²⁴ because he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit, and of faith, and a great multitude was added to the Lord.

⁷ for scarcely for a righteous man will any one die, for the good man perhaps some one also does dare to die;

¹⁴ All things do without murmurings and reasonings,

² this one came unto him by night, and said to him, 'Rabbi, we have known that from God you have come -- a teacher, for no one these signs is able to do that you do, if God may not be with him.'

²² These things said his parents, because they were afraid of the Jews, for already had the Jews agreed together, that if any one may confess him -- Christ, he may be put out of the synagogue;

³⁴ They answered and said to him, 'In sins you were born altogether, and you do teach us!' and they cast him forth without.

⁴² Still, however, also out of the rulers did many believe in him, but because of the Pharisees they were not confessing, that they might not be put out of the synagogue, ⁴³ for they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God.

³⁸ And after these things did Joseph of Arimathea -- being a disciple of Jesus, but concealed, through the fear of the Jews -- ask of Pilate, that he may take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave leave; he came, therefore, and took away the body of Jesus,

¹⁹ It being, therefore, evening, on that day, the first of the sabbaths, and the doors having been shut where the disciples were assembled, through fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, 'Peace to you;'

¹² for before the coming of certain from James, with the nations he was eating, and when they came, he was withdrawing and separating himself, fearing those of the circumcision, ¹³ and dissemble with him also did the other Jews, so that also Barnabas was carried away by their dissimulation.

⁹ in which I suffer evil\'7bhardship\'7d -- unto bonds, as an evil-doer, but the word of God has not been bound; ¹⁰ because of this all things do I endure, because of the choice ones, that they also salvation may obtain that is in Christ Jesus, with glory age-during. ¹¹ Stedfast\'7bfaithful\'7d is the word: For if we died together -- we also shall live together; ¹² if we do endure together -- we shall also reign together; if we deny him, he also shall deny us; ¹³ if we are not stedfast\'7bfaithful\'7d, he remains stedfast\'7bfaithful\'7d; to deny himself he is not able.

¹³ I have known your works, and where you do dwell -- where the throne of the Adversary is -- and you do hold fast my name, and you did not deny my faith, even in the days in which Antipas was my faithful witness, who was put to death beside you, where the Adversary does dwell.

¹² And Jesus entered into the temple of God, and did cast forth all those selling and buying in the temple, and the tables of the money-changers he overturned, and the seats of those selling the doves,

⁵⁵ In that hour said Jesus to the multitudes, 'As against a robber you did come forth, with swords and sticks, to take me! Daily with you I was sitting teaching in the temple, and you did not lay hold on me;

⁴⁷ And he was teaching daily in the temple, but the chief priests and the scribes were seeking to destroy him -- also the chiefs of the people --

¹⁴ After these things, Jesus finds him in the temple, and said to him, 'Lo, you have become whole; sin no more, lest something worse may happen to you.'

² and the feast of the Jews was near -- that of tabernacles --

²⁸ Jesus cried, therefore, in the temple, teaching and saying, 'You have both known me, and you have known whence I am; and I have not come of myself, but He who sent me is true, whom you have not known;

³⁷ And in the last, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, 'If any one does thirst, let him come unto me and drink;

² and all the people were coming unto him, and having sat down, he was teaching them;

²⁸ And it came to pass, when Jesus ended these words, the multitudes were astonished at his teaching, ²⁹ for he was teaching them as having authority, and not as the scribes.

⁵⁴ And having come to his own country, he was teaching them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and were saying, 'From where to this one this wisdom and the mighty works?

²² and having heard they wondered, and having left him they went away.

³³ And having heard, the multitudes were astonished at his teaching.

² and sabbath having come, he began in the synagogue to teach, and many hearing were astonished, saying, 'Whence has this one these things? and what the wisdom that was given to him, that also such mighty works through his hands are done? ³ Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, and Joses, and Judas, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us?' -- and they were being stumbled at him.

⁴⁷ and all those hearing him were astonished at his understanding and answers.

²² and all were bearing testimony to him, and were wondering at the gracious words that are coming forth out of his mouth, and they said, 'Is not this the son of Joseph?'

⁴⁶ The officers answered, 'Never so spake man -- as this man.'

⁷ and they were all amazed, and did wonder, saying one unto another, 'Lo, are not all these who are speaking Galileans? ⁸ and how do we hear, each in our proper dialect, in which we were born? ⁹ Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and those dwelling in Mesopotamia, in Judea also, and Cappadocia, Pontus, and Asia, ¹⁰ Phrygia also, and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the parts of Libya, that are along Cyrene, and the strangers of Rome, both Jews and proselytes, ¹¹ Cretes and Arabians, we did hear them speaking in our tongues the great things of God.' ¹² And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one unto another, 'What would this wish to be?' ¹³ and others mocking said, -- 'They are full of sweet wine;'

¹¹ 'This is the stone that was set at nought by you -- the builders, that became head of a corner; ¹² and there is not salvation in any other, for there is no other name under the heaven that has been given among men, in which it behooves us to be saved.'

²⁴ And, he thus making a defence, Festus with a loud voice said, 'You are mad, Paul; much learning does turn you mad;'

¹¹ 'Verily, verily, I say to you -- What we have known we speak, and what we have seen we testify, and our testimony you do not receive;

³¹ he who from above is coming is above all; he who is from the earth, from the earth he is, and from the earth he speaks; he who from the heaven is coming is above all.

²³ that all may honour the Son according as they honour the Father; he who is not honouring the Son, does not honour the Father who sent him. ²⁴ 'Verily, verily, I say to you -- He who is hearing my word, and is believing Him who sent me, has life age-during, and to judgment he does not come, but has passed out of the death to the life.

³⁰ 'I am not able of myself to do anything; according as I hear I judge, and my judgment is righteous, because I seek not my own will, but the will of the Father who sent me.

³⁸ because I have come down out of the heaven, not that I may do my will, but the will of Him who sent me. ³⁹ 'And this is the will of the Father who sent me, that all that He has given to me I may not lose of it, but may raise it up in the last day; ⁴⁰ and this is the will of Him who sent me, that every one who is beholding the Son, and is believing in him, may have life age-during, and I will raise him up in the last day.'

⁴⁴ no one is able to come unto me, if the Father who sent me may not draw him, and I will raise him up in the last day;

²⁸ Jesus, therefore, said to them, 'When you may lift up the Son of Man then you will know that I am he; and of myself I do nothing, but according as my Father did teach me, these things I speak;

⁴⁹ because I spake not from myself, but the Father who sent me, He did give me a command, what I may say, and what I may speak, ⁵⁰ and I have known that His command is life age-during; what, therefore, I speak, according as the Father has said to me, so I speak.'

¹⁰ Believe you not that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me? the sayings that I speak to you, from myself I speak not, and the Father who is abiding in me, Himself does the works;

²⁴ he who is not loving me, my words does not keep; and the word that you hear is not mine, but the Father's who sent me.

⁸ because the sayings that You have given to me, I have given to them, and they themselves received, and have known truly, that from You I came forth, and they did believe that You did send me.

¹ A revelation of Jesus Christ, that God gave to him, to show to his servants what things it behooves to come to pass quickly; and he did signify it, having sent through his messenger to his servant John,

²² 'The lamp of the body is the eye, if, therefore, your eye may be perfect, all your body shall be enlightened,

¹⁵ 'And that in the good ground: These are they, who in an upright and good heart, having heard the word, do retain it, and bear fruit in continuance.

⁴⁶ and Nathanael said to him, 'Out of Nazareth is any good thing able to be?' Philip said to him, 'Come and see.' ⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming unto him, and he said concerning him, 'Lo, truly an Israelite, in whom guile is not;' ⁴⁸ Nathanael said to him, 'Whence me do you know?' Jesus answered and said to him, 'Before Philip's calling you -- you being under the fig-tree -- I saw you.' ⁴⁹ Nathanael answered and said to him, 'Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are the king of Israel.'

³¹ Jesus, therefore, said unto the Jews who believed in him, 'If you may remain in my word, truly my disciples you are, and you shall know the truth, ³² and the truth shall make you free.'

⁴³ therefore do you not know my speech? because you are not able to hear my word.

⁴⁷ he who is of God, the sayings of God he does hear; because of this you do not hear, because of God you are not.'

¹ And there was a certain man in Caesarea, by name Cornelius, a centurion from a band called Italian, ² pious, and fearing God with all his house, doing also many kind acts to the people, and beseeching God always, ³ he saw in a vision manifestly, as it were the ninth hour of the day, a messenger of God coming in unto him, and saying to him, 'Cornelius;' ⁴ and he having looked earnestly on him, and becoming afraid, said, 'What is it, Lord?' And he said to him, 'Your prayers and your kind acts came up for a memorial before God, ⁵ and now send men to Joppa, and send for a certain one Simon, who is surnamed Peter, ⁶ this one does lodge with a certain Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea; this one shall speak to you what it behooves you to do.'

¹³ he declared also to us how he saw the messenger in his house standing, and saying to him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, who is surnamed Peter, ¹⁴ who shall speak sayings by which you shall be saved, you and all your house.

¹¹ and these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, they received the word with all readiness of mind, every day examining the Writings whether those things were so;

¹⁵ As many, therefore, as are perfect -- let us think this, and if in anything you think otherwise, this also shall God reveal to you, ¹⁶ but to what we have come -- by the same rule walk, the same thing think;

⁹ thus therefore pray you: 'Our Father, who is in the heavens, hallowed be Your name!

²⁶ and they came unto John, and said to him, 'Rabbi, he who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you did testify, lo, this one is baptizing, and all are coming unto him.' ²⁷ John answered and said, 'A man is not able to receive anything, if it may not have been given him from the heaven; ²⁸ you yourselves do testify to me that I said, I am not the Christ, but, that I am having been sent before him; ²⁹ he who is having the bride is bridegroom, and the friend of the bridegroom, who is standing and hearing him, with joy does rejoice because of the voice of the bridegroom; this, then, my joy has been fulfilled. ³⁰ 'Him it behooves to increase, and me to become less;

⁴¹ glory from man I do not receive,

⁴⁹ Jesus answered, 'I have not a demon, but I honour my Father, and you dishonour me; ⁵⁰ and I do not seek my own glory; there is who is seeking and is judging;

⁵⁴ Jesus answered, 'If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing; it is my Father who is glorifying me, of whom you say that He is your God;

⁴ and Jesus having heard, said, 'This ailment is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.'

²⁸ Father, glorify Your name.' There came, therefore, a voice out of the heaven, 'I both glorified, and again I will glorify it;'

³¹ When, therefore, he went forth, Jesus said, 'Now was the Son of Man glorified, and God was glorified in him; ³² if God was glorified in him, God also will glorify him in Himself; yea, immediately He will glorify him.

⁴ I did glorify You on the earth, the work I did finish that You have given me, that I may do it. ⁵ 'And now, glorify me, You Father, with Yourself, with the glory that I had before the world was, with You;

³¹ Whether, then, you eat, or drink, or do anything, do all to the glory of God; ³² become offenceless, both to Jews and Greeks, and to the assembly of God; ³³ as I also in all things do please all, not seeking my own profit, but that of many -- that they may be saved.

¹² as many as are willing to make a good appearance in the flesh, these constrain you to be circumcised -- only that for the cross of the Christ they may not be persecuted, ¹³ for neither do those circumcised themselves keep the law, but they wish you to be circumcised, that in your flesh they may glory. ¹⁴ And for me, let it not be -- to glory, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which to me the world has been crucified, and I to the world;

³ nothing in rivalry or vain-glory, but in humility of mind one another counting more excellent than yourselves -- ⁴ each not to your own look you, but each also to the things of others. ⁵ For, let this mind be in you that is also in Christ Jesus, ⁶ nor seeking of men glory, neither from you nor from others, being able to be burdensome, as Christ's apostles.

¹¹ if any one does speak -- 'as oracles of God;' if any one does minister -- 'as of the ability which God does supply;' that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom is the glory and the power -- to the ages of the ages. Amen.

¹⁴ And the Pharisees having gone forth, held a consultation against him, how they might destroy him.

² saying, 'On the seat of Moses sat down the scribes and the Pharisees; ³ all, then, as much as they may say to you to observe, observe and do, but according to their works do not, for they say, and do not; ⁴ for they bind together burdens heavy and grievous to be borne, and lay upon the shoulders of men, but with their finger they will not move them.

⁴ And he said to them, 'Is it lawful on the sabbaths to do good, or to do evil? life to save, or to kill?' but they were silent.

⁶ and the Pharisees having gone forth, immediately, with the Herodians, were taking counsel against him how they might destroy him.

¹⁷ for the law through Moses was given, the grace and the truth through Jesus Christ did come;

¹⁶ and because of this were the Jews persecuting Jesus, and seeking to kill him, because these things he was doing on a sabbath.

¹⁸ because of this, then, were the Jews seeking the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the sabbath, but he also called God his own Father, making himself equal to God.

⁴⁵ 'Do not think that I will accuse you unto the Father; there is who is accusing you, Moses -- in whom you have hoped;

¹ And Jesus was walking after these things in Galilee, for he did not wish to walk in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him,

²⁸ They reviled him, therefore, and said, 'You are his disciple, and we are Moses' disciples; ²⁹ we have known that God has spoken to Moses, but this one -- we have not known whence he is.'

³¹ Therefore, again, did the Jews take up stones that they may stone him; ³² Jesus answered them, 'Many good works did I show you from my Father; because of which work of them do you stone me?'

³⁹ Therefore were they seeking again to seize him, and he went forth out of their hand,

⁵³ From that day, therefore, they took counsel together that they may kill him;

³⁸ 'This is he who was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the messenger who is speaking to him in the mount Sinai, and with our fathers who did receive the living oracles to give to us;

¹² for as many as without law did sin, without law also shall perish, and as many as did sin in law, through law shall be judged, ¹³ for not the hearers of the law are righteous before God, but the doers of the law shall be declared righteous: --

¹⁷ Lo, you are named a Jew, and do rest upon the law, and do boast in God, ¹⁸ and do know the will, and do approve the distinctions, being instructed out of the law, ¹⁹ and have confidence that you yourself are a leader of blind ones, a light of those in darkness, ²⁰ an instructor of foolish ones, a teacher of babes, having the form of the knowledge and of the truth in the law. ²¹ You, then, who are teaching another, yourself do you not teach? ²² you who are preaching not to steal, do you steal? you who are saying not to commit adultery, do you commit adultery? you who are abhorring the idols, do you rob temples? ²³ you who in the law do boast, through the transgression of the law God do you dishonour? ²⁴ for the name of God because of you is evil spoken of among the nations, according as it has been written. ²⁵ For circumcision, indeed, does profit, if law you may practise, but if a transgressor of law you may be, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. ²⁶ If, therefore the uncircumcision the righteousness of the law may keep, shall not his uncircumcision for circumcision be reckoned? ²⁷ and the uncircumcision, by nature, fulfilling the law, shall judge you who, through letter and circumcision, are a transgressor of law. ²⁸ For he is not a Jew who is so outwardly, neither is circumcision that which is outward in flesh; ²⁹ but a Jew is he who is so inwardly, and circumcision is of the heart, in spirit, not in letter, of which the praise is not of men, but of God.

¹⁰ according as it has been written -- 'There is none righteous, not even one; ¹¹ There is none who is understanding, there is none who is seeking after God. ¹² All did go out of the way, together they became unprofitable, there is none doing good, there is not even one. ¹³ A sepulchre opened is their throat; with their tongues they used deceit; poison of asps is under their lips. ¹⁴ Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness. ¹⁵ Swift are their feet to shed blood. ¹⁶ Ruin and misery are in their ways. ¹⁷ And a way of peace they did not know. ¹⁸ There is no fear of God before their eyes.' ¹⁹ And we have known that as many things as the law says, to those in the law it does speak, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may come under judgment to God; ²⁰ therefore by works of law shall no flesh be declared righteous before Him, for through law is a knowledge of sin. ²¹ And now apart from law has the righteousness of God been manifested, testified to by the law and the prophets, ²² and the righteousness of God is through the faith of Jesus Christ to all, and upon all those believing, -- for there is no difference, ²³ for all did sin, and are come short of the glory of God --

¹⁹ Why, then, the law? on account of the transgressions it was added, till the seed might come to which the promise has been made, having been set in order through messengers in the hand of a mediator --

¹³ for neither do those circumcised themselves keep the law, but they wish you to be circumcised, that in your flesh they may glory.

³ for of more glory than Moses has this one been counted worthy, inasmuch as more honour than the house has he who does build it, ⁴ for every house is builded by some one, and He who the all things did build is God, ⁵ and Moses indeed was stedfast in all his house, as an attendant, for a testimony of those things that were to be spoken,

¹⁸ 'For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He has a demon; ¹⁹ the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, Lo, a man, a glutton, and a wine-drinker, a friend of tax-gatherers and sinners, and wisdom was justified of her children.'

²⁴ But the Pharisees having heard, said, 'This one does not cast out demons, except by Beelzeboul, ruler of the demons.'

²¹ and his friends having heard, went forth to lay hold on him, for they said that he was beside himself, ²² and the scribes who are from Jerusalem having come down, said -- 'He has Beelzeboul,' and -- 'By the ruler of the demons he does cast out the demons.'

³⁰ because they said, 'He has an unclean spirit.'

⁴⁸ The Jews, therefore, answered and said to him, 'Do we not say well, that you are a Samaritan, and have a demon?'

⁵² The Jews, therefore, said to him, 'Now we have known that you have a demon; Abraham did die, and the prophets, and you do say, If any one may keep my word, he shall not taste of death -- to the age!

²⁰ and many of them said, 'He has a demon, and is mad, why do you hear him?'

² and there is in Jerusalem by the sheep-gate a pool that is called in Hebrew Bethesda, having five porches, ³ in these were lying a great multitude of the ailing, blind, lame, withered, waiting for the moving of the water, ⁴ for a messenger at a set time was going down in the pool, and was troubling the water, the first then having gone in after the troubling of the water, became whole of whatever sickness he was held. ⁵ and there was a certain man there being in ailment thirty and eight years, ⁶ him Jesus having seen lying, and having known that he is already a long time, he said to him, 'Do you wish to become whole?' ⁷ The ailing man answered him, 'Sir, I have no man, that, when the water may be troubled, he may put me into the pool, and while I am coming, another does go down before me.' ⁸ Jesus said to him, 'Rise, take up your couch, and be walking;' ⁹ and immediately the man became whole, and he took up his couch, and was walking, and it was a sabbath on that day, ¹⁰ the Jews then said to him that has been healed, 'It is a sabbath; it is not lawful to you to take up the couch.' ¹¹ He answered them, 'He who made me whole -- that one said to me, Take up your couch, and be walking;'

²³ if a man does receive circumcision on a sabbath that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you wroth with me that I made a man all whole on a sabbath?

⁹ Is this happiness, then, upon the circumcision, or also upon the uncircumcision -- for we say that the faith was reckoned to Abraham -- to righteousness? ¹⁰ how then was it reckoned? he being in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision; ¹¹ and a sign he did receive of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith in the uncircumcision, for his being father of all those believing through uncircumcision, for the righteousness also being reckoned to them,

¹⁷ and this I say, A covenant confirmed before by God to Christ, the law, that came four hundred and thirty years after, does not set aside, to make void the promise,

² and the Pharisees having seen, said to him, 'Lo, your disciples do that which it is not lawful to do on a sabbath.'

⁵ 'Or did you not read in the Law, that on the sabbaths the priests in the temple do profane the sabbath, and are blameless?

⁸ Jesus said to him, 'Rise, take up your couch, and be walking;' ⁹ and immediately the man became whole, and he took up his couch, and was walking, and it was a sabbath on that day,

¹⁴ After these things, Jesus finds him in the temple, and said to him, 'Lo, you have become whole; sin no more, lest something worse may happen to you.' ¹⁵ The man went away, and told the Jews that it is Jesus who made him whole, ¹⁶ and because of this were the Jews persecuting Jesus, and seeking to kill him, because these things he was doing on a sabbath.

¹⁵ 'You according to the flesh do judge; I do not judge any one,

¹ My brethren, hold not, in respect of persons, the faith of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ,

⁴ you did not judge fully in yourselves, and did become ill-reasoning judges.

⁹ and if you accept persons, sin you do work, being convicted by the law as transgressors;

¹⁰ And when his brethren went up, then also he himself went up to the feast, not manifestly, but as in secret; ¹¹ the Jews, therefore, were seeking him, in the feast, and said, 'Where is that one?'

¹⁶ and they send to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, 'Teacher, we have known that you are true, and the way of God in truth you do teach, and you are not caring for any one, for you do not look to the face of men;

³⁰ but the Pharisees, and the lawyers, the counsel of God did put away for themselves, not having been baptized by him.

⁴⁸ did any one out of the rulers believe in him? or out of the Pharisees?

⁴⁷ the chief priests, therefore, and the Pharisees, gathered together a sanhedrin, and said, 'What may we do? because this man does many signs? ⁴⁸ if we may let him alone thus, all will believe in him; and the Romans will come, and will take away both our place and nation.' ⁴⁹ and a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being chief priest of that year, said to them, 'You have not known anything, ⁵⁰ nor reason that it is good for us that one man may die for the people, and not the whole nation perish.' ⁵¹ And this he said not of himself, but being chief priest of that year, he did prophesy that Jesus was about to die for the nation, ⁵² and not for the nation only, but that also the children of God, who have been scattered abroad, he may gather together into one. ⁵³ From that day, therefore, they took counsel together that they may kill him;

⁴² Still, however, also out of the rulers did many believe in him, but because of the Pharisees they were not confessing, that they might not be put out of the synagogue,

¹³ And beholding the openness of Peter and John, and having perceived that they are men unlettered and plebeian, they were wondering -- they were taking knowledge also of them that with Jesus they had been --

¹⁹ and in behalf of me, that to me may be given a word in the opening of my mouth, in freedom, to make known the secret of the good news, ²⁰ for which I am an ambassador in a chain, that in it I may speak freely -- as it behooves\'7bnecessitates\'7d me to speak.

¹⁴ and the greater part of the brethren in the Lord, having confidence by my bonds, are more abundantly bold -- fearlessly to speak the word.

⁷ for God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind; ⁸ therefore you may not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but do you suffer evil along with the good news according to the power of God,

⁵ And they said to him, 'In Beth-Lehem of Judea, for thus it has been written through the prophet, ⁶ And you, Beth-Lehem, the land of Judah, you are by no means the least among the leaders of Judah, for out of you shall come one leading, who shall feed My people Israel.'

⁵⁴ And having come to his own country, he was teaching them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and were saying, 'From where to this one this wisdom and the mighty works? ⁵⁵ Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary, and his brethren James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? ⁵⁶ And his sisters -- are they not all with us? Why, then, to this one all these?' ⁵⁷ And they were stumbled at him. And Jesus said to them, 'A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, and in his own house:'

³ Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, and Joses, and Judas, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us?' -- and they were being stumbled at him.

⁴² and they said, 'Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we have known? how then said this one -- Out of the heaven I have come down?'

¹⁵ and the Jews were wondering, saying, 'How has this one known letters -- not having learned?'

⁴¹ others said, 'This is the Christ;' and others said, 'Why, out of Galilee does the Christ come? ⁴² Did not the Writing say, that out of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem -- the village where David was -- the Christ does come?'

²⁹ we have known that God has spoken to Moses, but this one -- we have not known whence he is.'

³³ in his humiliation his judgment was taken away, and his generation -- who shall declare? because taken from the earth is his life.'

²³ and coming, he dwelt in a city named Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled that was spoken through the prophets, that 'A Nazarene he shall be called.'

²⁷ 'All things were delivered to me by my Father, and none does know the Son, except the Father, nor does any know the Father, except the Son, and he to whom the Son may wish to reveal Him.

⁴ and Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, that is called Bethlehem, because of his being of the house and family of David,

¹¹ because there was born to you to-day a Saviour -- who is Christ the Lord -- in the city of David,

³⁹ And when they finished all things, according to the Law of the Lord, they turned back to Galilee, to their city Nazareth;

⁵¹ and he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and he was subject to them, and his mother was keeping all these sayings in her heart,

²² 'All things were delivered up to me by my Father, and no one does know who the Son is, except the Father, and who the Father is, except the Son, and he to whom the Son may wish to reveal Him.'

⁴⁶ and Nathanael said to him, 'Out of Nazareth is any good thing able to be?' Philip said to him, 'Come and see.'

³³ he who is receiving his testimony did seal that God is true;

³² another there is who is testifying concerning me, and I have known that the testimony that he does testify concerning me is true;

⁴³ 'I have come in the name of my Father, and you do not receive me; if another may come in his own name, him you will receive;

¹⁴ And it being now the middle of the feast, Jesus went up to the temple, and he was teaching,

¹⁴ Jesus answered and said to them, 'And if I testify of myself -- my testimony is true, because I have known whence I came, and whither I go, and you -- you have not known whence I come, or whither I go.

¹⁶ and even if I do judge my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who sent me;

¹⁹ They said, therefore, to him, 'Where is your father?' Jesus answered, 'You have neither known me nor my Father: if me you had known, my Father also you had known.'

²⁶ many things I have to speak concerning you and to judge, but He who sent me is true, and I -- what things I heard from Him -- these I say to the world.'

⁴² Jesus then said to them, 'If God were your father, you were loving me, for I came forth from God, and am come; for neither have I come of myself, but He sent me;

⁵⁴ Jesus answered, 'If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing; it is my Father who is glorifying me, of whom you say that He is your God; ⁵⁵ and you have not known Him, and I have known Him, and if I say that I have not known Him, I shall be like you -- speaking falsely; but I have known Him, and His word I keep;

³⁶ of him whom the Father did sanctify, and send to the world, do you say -- You speak evil, because I said, Son of God I am?

⁴⁹ because I spake not from myself, but the Father who sent me, He did give me a command, what I may say, and what I may speak,

³¹ but that the world may know that I love the Father, and according as the Father gave me command so I do; arise, we may go hence.

³ and these things they will do to you, because they did not know the Father, nor me.

³ and this is the life age-during, that they may know You, the only true God, and him whom You did send -- Jesus Christ;

²⁵ 'Righteous Father, also the world did not know You, and I knew You, and these have known that You did send me,

²³ for passing through and contemplating your objects of worship, I found also an erection on which had been inscribed: To God -- unknown; whom, therefore -- not knowing -- you do worship, this One I announce to you.

²⁸ And, according as they did not approve of having God in knowledge, God gave them up to a disapproved mind, to do the things not seemly;

⁴ let it not be! and let God become true, and every man false, according as it has been written, 'That You may be declared righteous in Your words, and may overcome in Your being judged.'

¹⁸ and God is faithful, that our word unto you became not Yes and No,

⁶ because it is God who said, Out of darkness light is to shine, who did shine in our hearts, for the enlightening of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

² upon hope of life age-during, which God, who does not lie, did promise before times of ages,

¹⁸ that through two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, a strong comfort we may have who did flee for refuge to lay hold on the hope set before us,

³ and in this we know that we have known him, if his commands we may keep; ⁴ he who is saying, 'I have known him,' and his command is not keeping, a liar he is, and in him the truth is not;

¹⁰ He who is believing in the Son of God, has the testimony in himself; he who is not believing God, a liar has made Him, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has testified concerning His Son;

¹⁸ God no one has ever seen; the only begotten Son, who is on the bosom of the Father -- he did declare.

¹⁶ for God did so love the world, that His Son -- the only begotten -- He gave, that every one who is believing in him may not perish, but may have life age-during. ¹⁷ For God did not send His Son to the world that he may judge the world, but that the world may be saved through him;

⁴⁶ not that any one has seen the Father, except he who is from God, he has seen the Father.

⁵⁵ and you have not known Him, and I have known Him, and if I say that I have not known Him, I shall be like you -- speaking falsely; but I have known Him, and His word I keep;

¹⁵ according as the Father does know me, and I know the Father, and my life I lay down for the sheep,

³ Jesus knowing that all things the Father has given to him -- into his hands, and that from God he came forth, and unto God he goes,

²⁷ for the Father himself does love you, because me you have loved, and you have believed that I from God came forth; ²⁸ I came forth from the Father, and have come to the world; again I leave the world, and go on unto the Father.'

¹⁸ as You did send me to the world, I also did send them to the world;

²⁵ 'Righteous Father, also the world did not know You, and I knew You, and these have known that You did send me, ²⁶ and I made known to them Your name, and will make known, that the love with which You lovedst me in them may be, and I in them.'

² and the Life was manifested, and we have seen, and do testify, and declare to you the Life, the Age-during, which was with the Father, and was manifested to us --

⁹ In this was manifested the love of God in us, because His Son -- the only begotten -- has God sent to the world, that we may live through him;

¹⁴ And we -- we have seen and do testify, that the Father has sent the Son -- Savior of the world;

¹⁸ And the scribes and the chief priests heard, and they were seeking how they shall destroy him, for they were afraid of him, because all the multitude was astonished at his teaching;

⁴⁷ And he was teaching daily in the temple, but the chief priests and the scribes were seeking to destroy him -- also the chiefs of the people -- ⁴⁸ and they were not finding what they shall do, for all the people were hanging on him, hearing him.

¹⁹ And the chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him in that hour, and they feared the people, for they knew that against them he spake this simile.

⁵³ while daily I was with you in the temple, you did stretch forth no hands against me; but this is your hour and the power of the darkness.'

⁴⁴ And certain of them were willing to seize him, but no one laid hands on him; ⁴⁵ the officers came, therefore, unto the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, 'Therefore did you not bring him?' ⁴⁶ The officers answered, 'Never so spake man -- as this man.'

⁵⁹ they took up, therefore, stones that they may cast at him, but Jesus hid himself, and went forth out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

⁴ it behooves me to be working the works of Him who sent me while it is day; night does come, when no one is able to work: --

³¹ Therefore, again, did the Jews take up stones that they may stone him;

⁹ Jesus answered, 'Are there not twelve hours in the day? if any one may walk in the day, he does not stumble, because the light of this world he does see; ¹⁰ and if any one may walk in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.'

⁵⁷ and both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a command, that if any one may know where he is, he may show it, so that they may seize him.

³ said to him, 'Are you He who is coming, or for another do we look?' ⁴ And Jesus answering said to them, 'Having gone, declare to John the things that you hear and see, ⁵ blind receive sight, and lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and deaf hear, dead are raised, and poor have good news proclaimed, ⁶ and blessed is he who may not be stumbled in me.'

²³ And all the multitudes were amazed, and said, 'Is this the Son of David?'

¹³ 'And those upon the rock: They who, when they may hear, with joy do receive the word, and these have no root, who for a time believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

¹¹ This beginning of the signs did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested his glory, and his disciples believed in him;

²³ And as he was in Jerusalem, in the passover, in the feast, many believed in his name, beholding his signs that he was doing; ²⁴ and Jesus himself was not trusting himself to them, because of his knowing all men,

³⁹ And from that city many believed in him, of the Samaritans, because of the word of the woman testifying, -- 'He told me all things -- as many as I did.'

² and there was following him a great multitude, because they were seeing his signs that he was doing on the ailing;

¹⁴ The men, then, having seen the sign that Jesus did, said -- 'This is truly the Prophet, who is coming to the world;' ¹⁵ Jesus, therefore, having known that they are about to come, and to take him by force that they may make him king, retired again to the mountain himself alone.

³⁰ As he is speaking these things, many believed in him;

⁴¹ and many came unto him, and said -- 'John, indeed, did no sign, and all things, as many as John said about this one were true;' ⁴² and many did believe in him there.

⁴⁵ Many, therefore, of the Jews who came unto Mary, and beheld what Jesus did, believed in him;

¹¹ because on account of him many of the Jews were going away, and were believing in Jesus.

¹³ and Simon also himself did believe, and, having been baptized, he was continuing with Philip, beholding also signs and mighty acts being done, he was amazed.

²⁶ for as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also the faith apart from the works is dead.

²³ And all the multitudes were amazed, and said, 'Is this the Son of David?' ²⁴ But the Pharisees having heard, said, 'This one does not cast out demons, except by Beelzeboul, ruler of the demons.'

¹³ 'Woo to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the reign of the heavens before men, for you do not go in, nor those going in do you permit to enter.

⁵² And Jesus said to those having come upon him -- chief priests, and magistrates of the temple, and elders -- 'As upon a robber have you come forth, with swords and sticks? ⁵³ while daily I was with you in the temple, you did stretch forth no hands against me; but this is your hour and the power of the darkness.'

⁴⁵ the officers came, therefore, unto the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, 'Therefore did you not bring him?' ⁴⁶ The officers answered, 'Never so spake man -- as this man.' ⁴⁷ The Pharisees, therefore, answered them, 'Have you also been led astray? ⁴⁸ did any one out of the rulers believe in him? or out of the Pharisees? ⁴⁹ but this multitude, that is not knowing the law, is accursed.' ⁵⁰ Nicodemus said unto them -- he who came by night unto him -- being one of them, ⁵¹ 'Does our law judge the man, if it may not hear from him first, and know what he does?' ⁵² They answered and said to him, 'Art you also out of Galilee? search and see, that a prophet out of Galilee has not risen;' ⁵³ and each one went on to his house, but Jesus went on to the mount of the Olives.

⁴⁷ the chief priests, therefore, and the Pharisees, gathered together a sanhedrin, and said, 'What may we do? because this man does many signs? ⁴⁸ if we may let him alone thus, all will believe in him; and the Romans will come, and will take away both our place and nation.'

¹⁹ the Pharisees, therefore, said among themselves, 'You see that you do not gain anything, lo, the world did go after him.'

³ Judas, therefore, having taken the band and officers out of the chief priests and Pharisees, does come thither with torches and lamps, and weapons;

²⁶ then the magistrate having gone away with officers, brought them without violence, for they were fearing the people, lest they should be stoned;

¹⁹ The Lord, then, indeed, after speaking to them, was received up to the heaven, and sat on the right hand of God;

³⁵ Jesus, therefore, said to them, 'Yet a little time is the light with you; walk while you have the light, that darkness may not overtake you; and he who is walking in the darkness has not known where he goes; ³⁶ while you have the light, believe in the light, that sons of light you may become.' These things spake Jesus, and having gone away, he was hid from them,

³³ 'Little children, yet a little am I with you; you will seek me, and, according as I said to the Jews -- Whither I go away, you are not able to come, to you also I do say it now.

¹⁹ yet a little, and the world does no more behold me, and you behold me, because I live, and you shall live;

⁵ and now I go away to Him who sent me, and none of you does ask me, Whither do you go?

¹⁰ and concerning righteousness, because unto my Father I go away, and no more do you behold me;

¹⁶ a little while, and you do not behold me, and again a little while, and you shall see me, because I go away unto the Father.' ¹⁷ Therefore said some of his disciples one to another, 'What is this that he said to us, A little while, and you do not behold me, and again a little while, and you shall see me, and, Because I go away unto the Father?' ¹⁸ they said then, 'What is this he said -- the little while? we have not known what he said.' ¹⁹ Jesus, therefore, knew that they were wishing to ask him, and he said to them, 'Concerning this do you seek one with another, because I said, A little while, and you do not behold me, and again a little while, and you shall see me? ²⁰ verily, verily, I say to you, that you shall weep and lament, and the world will rejoice; and you shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow joy will become. ²¹ 'The woman, when she may bear, has sorrow, because her hour did come, and when she may bear the child, no more does she remember the anguish, because of the joy that a man was born to the world. ²² 'And you, therefore, now, indeed, have sorrow; and again I will see you, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no one does take from you,

²⁸ I came forth from the Father, and have come to the world; again I leave the world, and go on unto the Father.'

¹¹ and no more am I in the world, and these are in the world, and I come unto You. Holy Father, keep them in Your name, whom You have given to me, that they may be one as we;

¹³ 'And now unto You I come, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves;

³⁹ for I say to you, you may not see me henceforth, till you may say, Blessed is he who is coming in the name of the Lord.'

²⁴ 'Be striving to go in through the straight gate, because many, I say to you, will seek to go in, and shall not be able; ²⁵ from the time the master of the house may have risen up, and may have shut the door, and you may begin without to stand, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, lord, open to us, and he answering shall say to you, I have not known you whence you are,

³⁴ 'Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that is killing the prophets, and stoning those sent unto her, how often did I will to gather together your children, as a hen her brood under the wings, and you did not will. ³⁵ 'Lo, your house is being left to you desolate, and verily I say to you -- you may not see me, till it may come, when you may say, Blessed is he who is coming in the name of the Lord.'

²² And he said unto his disciples, 'Days will come, when you shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you shall not behold it; ²³ and they shall say to you, Lo, here; or lo, there; you may not go away, nor follow;

²¹ therefore said Jesus again to them, 'I go away, and you will seek me, and in your sin you shall die; whither I go away, you are not able to come.' ²² The Jews, therefore, said, 'Will he kill himself, because he said, Whither I go away, you are not able to come?' ²³ and he said to them, 'You are from beneath, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world; ²⁴ I said, therefore, to you, that you shall die in your sins, for if you may not believe that I am he, you shall die in your sins.'

³³ 'Little children, yet a little am I with you; you will seek me, and, according as I said to the Jews -- Whither I go away, you are not able to come, to you also I do say it now. ³⁴ 'A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; according as I did love you, that you also love one another; ³⁵ in this shall all know that you are my disciples, if you may have love one to another.' ³⁶ Simon Peter said to him, 'Sir, whither do you go away?' Jesus answered him, 'Whither I go away, you art not able now to follow me, but afterward you shall follow me.'

³ and if I go on and prepare for you a place, again do I come, and will receive you unto myself, that where I am you also may be;

⁶ Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life, no one does come unto the Father, if not through me;

²⁴ 'Father, those whom You have given to me, I will that where I am they also may be with me, that they may behold my glory that You did give to me, because You did love me before the foundation of the world.

²¹ and in his name shall nations hope.'

³² a light to the uncovering of nations, and the glory of Your people Israel.'

²² The Jews, therefore, said, 'Will he kill himself, because he said, Whither I go away, you are not able to come?'

²⁰ And there were certain Greeks out of those coming up that they may worship in the feast,

¹⁸ And they, having heard these things, were silent, and were glorifying God, saying, 'Then, indeed, also to the nations did God give the reformation to life.'

⁴⁶ And speaking boldly, Paul and Barnabas said, 'To you it was necessary that first the word of God be spoken, and seeing you do thrust it away, and do not judge yourselves worthy of the life age-during, lo, we do turn to the nations; ⁴⁷ for so has the Lord commanded us: I have set you for a light of nations -- for your being for salvation unto the end of the earth.' ⁴⁸ And the nations hearing were glad, and were glorifying the word of the Lord, and did believe -- as many as were appointed to life age-during;

²¹ and they are instructed concerning you, that apostasy from Moses you do teach to all Jews among the nations, saying -- Not to circumcise the children, nor after the customs to walk;

²¹ and he said unto me, Go, because to nations far off I will send you.'

⁸ to me -- the less than the least of all the saints -- was given this grace, among the nations to proclaim good news -- the untraceable riches of the Christ,

²⁷ to whom God did will to make known what is the riches of the glory of this secret among the nations -- which is Christ in you, the hope of the glory,

⁷ in regard to which I was set a preacher and apostle -- truth I say in Christ, I do not lie -- a teacher of nations, in faith and truth.

¹¹ to which I was placed a preacher and an apostle, and a teacher of nations,

¹ James, of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ a servant, to the Twelve Tribes who are in the dispersion: Hail!

¹ Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the choice sojourners of the dispersion of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

⁴ Nicodemus said unto him, 'How is a man able to be born, being old? is he able into the womb of his mother a second time to enter, and to be born?'

⁹ Nicodemus answered and said to him, 'How are these things able to happen?'

⁴¹ The Jews, therefore, were murmuring at him, because he said, 'I am the bread that came down out of the heaven;'

⁵² The Jews, therefore, were striving with one another, saying, 'How is this one able to give us his flesh to eat?'

⁶⁰ many, therefore, of his disciples having heard, said, 'This word is hard; who is able to hear it?'

³⁴ you will seek me, and you shall not find; and where I am, you are not able to come.'

³⁴ the multitude answered him, 'We heard out of the law that the Christ does remain -- to the age; and how do you say, That it behooves the Son of Man to be lifted up? who is this -- the Son of Man?'

¹⁷ Therefore said some of his disciples one to another, 'What is this that he said to us, A little while, and you do not behold me, and again a little while, and you shall see me, and, Because I go away unto the Father?' ¹⁸ they said then, 'What is this he said -- the little while? we have not known what he said.'

¹⁴ and the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for to him they are foolishness, and he is not able to know them, because spiritually they are discerned;

³ for this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, 'A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare you the way of the Lord, straight make you His paths.'

²⁸ 'Come unto me, all you labouring and burdened ones, and I will give you rest,

²³ He said, 'I am a voice of one crying in the wilderness: Make straight the way of the Lord, as said Isaiah the prophet.'

¹⁰ Jesus answered and said to her, 'If you hadst known the gift of God, and who it is who is saying to you, Give me to drink, you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.'

¹⁴ but whoever may drink of the water that I will give him, may not thirst -- to the age; and the water that I will give him shall become in him a well of water, springing up to life age-during.'

⁴⁰ and you do not will to come unto me, that you may have life;

³⁵ And Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of the life; he who is coming unto me may not hunger, and he who is believing in me may not thirst -- at any time;

³⁷ all that the Father does give to me will come unto me; and him who is coming unto me, I may in no wise cast without,

⁵⁵ for my flesh truly is food, and my blood truly is drink;

⁴ and all the same spiritual drink did drink, for they were drinking of a spiritual rock following them, and the rock was the Christ;

²¹ you are not able the cup of the Lord to drink, and the cup of demons; you are not able of the table of the Lord to partake, and of the table of demons;

²⁵ In like manner also the cup after the supping, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood; this do you, as often as you may drink it -- to the remembrance of me;'

¹³ for also in one Spirit we all to one body were baptized, whether Jews or Greeks, whether servants or freemen, and all into one Spirit were made to drink,

¹⁸ and be not drunk with wine, in which is dissoluteness\'7brecklessness\'7d, but be filled in the Spirit,

⁶ and He said to me, 'It has been done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End; I, to him who is thirsting, will give of the fountain of the water of the life freely;

¹ And he showed me a pure river of water of life, bright as crystal, going forth out of the throne of God and of the Lamb:

¹⁷ And the Spirit and the Bride say, Come; and he who is hearing -- let him say, Come; and he who is thirsting -- let him come; and he who is willing -- let him take the water of life freely.

²² And the fruit of the Spirit is: Love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, ²³ meekness, temperance: against such there is no law;

⁹ for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, and righteousness, and truth,

¹⁴ And they said, 'Some, John the Baptist, and others, Elijah, and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.'

¹¹ And the multitudes said, 'This is Jesus the prophet, who is from Nazareth of Galilee.'

¹⁶ John answered, saying to all, 'I indeed with water do baptize you, but he comes who is mightier than I, of whom I am not worthy to loose the latchet of his sandals -- he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire;

⁴⁹ 'And, lo, I do send the promise of my Father upon you, but you -- abide you in the city of Jerusalem till you be clothed with power from on high.'

²¹ And they questioned him, 'What then? Elijah are you?' and he said, 'I am not.' -- 'The prophet are you?' and he answered, 'No.'

²⁵ and they questioned him and said to him, 'Why, then, do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?'

³³ and I did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water, He said to me, On whomsoever you mayest see the Spirit coming down, and remaining on him, this is he who is baptizing with the Holy Spirit;

¹² and there was much murmuring about him among the multitudes, some indeed said -- 'He is good;' and others said, 'No, but he leads astray the multitude;'

¹⁶ And these things his disciples did not know at the first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were having been written about him, and these things they did to him.

²³ And Jesus responded to them, saying, 'The hour has come that the Son of Man may be glorified;

¹³ and whatever you may ask in my name, I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son;

¹⁶ and I will ask the Father, and another Comforter He will give to you, that he may remain with you -- to the age; ¹⁷ the Spirit of truth, whom the world is not able to receive, because it does not behold him, nor know him, and you know him, because he does remain with you, and shall be in you.

²⁶ and the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and remind you of all things that I said to you.

⁷ 'But I tell you the truth; it is better for you that I go away, for if I may not go away, the Comforter will not come unto you, and if I go on, I will send Him unto you;

⁵ 'And now, glorify me, You Father, with Yourself, with the glory that I had before the world was, with You;

²² and this having said, he breathed on them, and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit;

⁴ And being assembled together with them, he commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, said he, 'You did hear of me; ⁵ because John, indeed, baptized with water, and you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit -- after not many days.' ⁶ They, therefore, indeed, having come together, were questioning him, saying, 'Lord, do you at this time restore the reign to Israel?' ⁷ and he said unto them, 'It is not yours to know times or seasons that the Father did appoint in His own authority; ⁸ but you shall receive power at the coming of the Holy Spirit upon you, and you shall be witnesses to me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and unto the end of the earth.'

⁴ and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, according as the Spirit was giving them to declare.

¹⁷ And it shall be in the last days, said God, I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;

³³ at the right hand then of God having been exalted -- also the promise of the Holy Spirit having received from the Father -- he was shedding forth this, which now you see and hear;

³⁸ and Peter said unto them, 'Reform, and be baptized each of you on the name of Jesus Christ, to remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit,

¹³ 'The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, did glorify His child Jesus, whom you delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, he having given judgment to release him,

²² 'For Moses, indeed, unto the fathers said -- A prophet to you shall the Lord your God raise up out of your brethren, like to me; him shall you hear in all things, as many as he may speak unto you; ²³ and it shall be, every soul that may not hear that prophet shall be utterly destroyed out of the people;

³¹ And they having prayed, the place was shaken in which they were gathered together, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and were speaking the word of God with freedom,

⁹ And you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God does dwell in you; and if any one has not the Spirit of Christ -- this one is not His;

⁸ how shall the ministration of the Spirit not be more in glory?

¹³ in whom you also, having heard the word of the truth -- the good news of your salvation -- in whom also having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of the promise, ¹⁴ which is an earnest\'7bpledge, down payment\'7d of our inheritance, to the redemption of the acquired possession, to the praise of His glory.

³⁰ and make not sorrowful the Holy Spirit of God, in which you were sealed to a day of redemption.

⁴¹ this one does first find his own brother Simon, and said to him, 'We have found the Messiah,' (which is, being interpreted, The Anointed,)

⁴⁹ Nathanael answered and said to him, 'Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are the king of Israel.'

²⁵ The woman said to him, 'I have known that Messiah does come, who is called Christ, when that one may come, he will tell us all things;'

²⁹ 'Come, see a man, who told me all things -- as many as I did; is this the Christ?'

⁴² and said to the woman -- 'No more because of your speaking do we believe; for we ourselves have heard and known that this is truly the Saviour of the world -- the Christ.'

⁶⁹ and we have believed, and we have known, that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God.'

³¹ and many out of the multitude did believe in him, and said -- 'The Christ -- when he may come -- will he do more signs than these that this one did?'

¹ A roll of the birth of Jesus Christ, son of David, son of Abraham.

⁵ And they said to him, 'In Beth-Lehem of Judea, for thus it has been written through the prophet,

²⁷ but this one -- we have known whence he is; and the Christ, when he does come, no one does know whence he is.'

³⁵ for I came to set a man at variance against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law,

⁵¹ 'Think you that peace I came to give in the earth? no, I say to you, but rather division;

¹⁹ Therefore, again, there came a division among the Jews, because of these words,

⁴ And the multitude of the city was divided, and some were with the Jews, and some with the apostles,

⁷ And he having spoken this, there came a dissension of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees, and the crowd was divided, ⁸ for Sadducees, indeed, say there is no rising again, nor messenger, nor spirit, but Pharisees confess both. ⁹ And there came a great cry, and the scribes of the Pharisees' part having arisen, were striving, saying, 'No evil do we find in this man; and if a spirit spake to him, or a messenger, we may not fight against God;' ¹⁰ and a great dissension having come, the chief captain having been afraid lest Paul may be pulled to pieces by them, commanded the soldiery, having gone down, to take him by force out of the midst of them, and to bring him to the castle.

⁵ they answered him, 'Jesus the Nazarene;' Jesus said to them, 'I am he;' -- and Judas who delivered him up was standing with them; -- ⁶ when, therefore, he said to them -- 'I am he,' they went away backward, and fell to the ground.

¹⁰ because I am with you, and no one shall set on you to do you evil; because I have much people in this city;'

¹¹ And on the following night, the Lord having stood by him, said, 'Take courage, Paul, for as you did fully testify the things concerning me at Jerusalem, so it behooves you also at Rome to testify.'

²³ for there stood by me this night a messenger of God -- whose I am, and whom I serve -- ²⁴ saying, Be not afraid Paul; before Caesar it behooves you to stand; and, lo, God has granted to you all those sailing with you; ²⁵ therefore be of good cheer, men! for I believe God, that so it shall be, even as it has been spoken to me,

²¹ and having heard, they did enter at the dawn into the temple, and were teaching. And the chief priest having come, and those with him, they called together the sanhedrin and all the senate of the sons of Israel, and they sent to the prison to have them brought, ²² and the officers having come, did not find them in the prison, and having turned back, they told, ²³ saying -- 'The prison indeed we found shut in all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors, and having opened -- within we found no one.' ²⁴ And as the priest, and the magistrate of the temple, and the chief priests, heard these words, they were doubting concerning them to what this would come; ²⁵ and coming near, a certain one told them, saying -- 'Lo, the men whom you did put in the prison are in the temple standing and teaching the people;' ²⁶ then the magistrate having gone away with officers, brought them without violence, for they were fearing the people, lest they should be stoned; ²⁷ and having brought them, they set them in the sanhedrin, and the chief priest questioned them,

²⁶ and, lo, he does speak freely, and they say nothing to him; did the rulers at all know truly that this is truly the Christ?

²⁷ He answered them, 'I told you already, and you did not hear; why again do you wish to hear? do you also wish to become his disciples?' ²⁸ They reviled him, therefore, and said, 'You are his disciple, and we are Moses' disciples; ²⁹ we have known that God has spoken to Moses, but this one -- we have not known whence he is.' ³⁰ The man answered and said to them, 'Why, in this is a wonderful thing, that you have not known whence he is, and he opened my eyes! ³¹ and we have known that God does not hear sinners, but, if any one may be a worshipper of God, and may do His will, him He does hear; ³² from the age it was not heard, that any one did open eyes of one who has been born blind; ³³ if this one were not from God, he were not able to do anything.' ³⁴ They answered and said to him, 'In sins you were born altogether, and you do teach us!' and they cast him forth without.

⁸ through glory and dishonour, through evil report and good report, as leading astray, and true;

²⁵ At that time Jesus answering said, 'I do confess to You, Father, Lord of the heavens and of the earth, that you did hide these things from wise and understanding ones, and did reveal them to babes.

⁵⁰ Nicodemus said unto them -- he who came by night unto him -- being one of them,

⁷ And the word of God did increase, and the number of the disciples did multiply in Jerusalem exceedingly; a great multitude also of the priests were obedient to the faith.

²⁰ where is the wise? where the scribe? where a disputer of this age? did not God make foolish the wisdom of this world?

²² Since also Jews ask a sign, and Greeks seek wisdom, ²³ also we -- we preach Christ crucified, to Jews, indeed, a stumbling-block, and to Greeks foolishness, ²⁴ and to those called -- both Jews and Greeks -- Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God, ²⁵ because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men; ²⁶ for see your calling, brethren, that not many are wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; ²⁷ but the foolish things of the world did God choose, that the wise He may put to shame; and the weak things of the world did God choose that He may put to shame the strong; ²⁸ and the base things of the world, and the things despised did God choose, and the things that are not, that the things that are He may make useless --

⁸ which no one of the rulers of this age did know, for if they had known, the Lord of the glory they would not have crucified;

⁴⁰ And those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and they said to him, 'Are we also blind?'

²⁰ where is the wise? where the scribe? where a disputer of this age? did not God make foolish the wisdom of this world? ²¹ for, seeing in the wisdom of God the world through the wisdom knew not God, it did please God through the foolishness of the preaching to save those believing.

¹⁸ Let no one deceive himself; if any one does seem to be wise among you in this age -- let him become a fool, that he may become wise, ¹⁹ for the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God, for it has been written, 'Who is taking the wise in their craftiness;' ²⁰ and again, 'The Lord does know the reasonings of the wise, that they are vain.'

¹³ Who is wise and intelligent among you? let him show out of the good behaviour his works in meekness of wisdom, ¹⁴ and if bitter zeal you have, and rivalry in your heart, glory not, nor lie against the truth; ¹⁵ this wisdom is not descending from above, but earthly, physical, demon-like, ¹⁶ for where zeal and rivalry are, there is insurrection and every evil matter; ¹⁷ and the wisdom from above, first, indeed, is pure, then peaceable, gentle, easily entreated, full of kindness and good fruits, uncontentious, and unhypocritical: -- ¹⁸ and the fruit of the righteousness in peace is sown to those making peace.

¹ And there was a man of the Pharisees, Nicodemus his name, a ruler of the Jews, ² this one came unto him by night, and said to him, 'Rabbi, we have known that from God you have come -- a teacher, for no one these signs is able to do that you do, if God may not be with him.'

³⁹ and Nicodemus also came -- who came unto Jesus by night at the first -- bearing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, as it were, a hundred pounds.

³ then Paul said unto him, 'God is about to smite you, you whitewashed wall, and you -- you do sit judging me according to the law, and, violating law, do order me to be smitten!'

¹⁵ 'Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations! -- ¹⁶ The people that is sitting in darkness saw a great light, and to those sitting in a region and shadow of death -- light arose to them.'

⁴¹ others said, 'This is the Christ;' and others said, 'Why, out of Galilee does the Christ come?
