¹ And as he is going forth out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, 'Teacher, see! what stones! and what buildings!' ² and Jesus answering said to him, 'See you these great buildings? there may not be left a stone upon a stone, that may not be thrown down.' ³ And as he is sitting at the mount of the Olives, across from the temple, Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, were questioning him by himself, ⁴ 'Tell us when these things shall be? and what is the sign when all these may be about to be fulfilled?' ⁵ And Jesus answering them, began to say, 'Take heed lest any one may lead you astray, ⁶ for many shall come in my name, saying -- I am he, and many they shall lead astray; ⁷ and when you may hear of wars and reports of wars, be not troubled, for these behoove to be, but the end is not yet; ⁸ for nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles; beginnings of sorrows are these. ⁹ 'And take you heed to yourselves, for they shall deliver you up to sanhedrins, and to synagogues, you shall be beaten, and before governors and kings you shall be set for my sake, for a testimony to them; ¹⁰ and to all the nations it benefits first that the good news be proclaimed. ¹¹ 'And when they may lead you, delivering up, be not anxious beforehand what you may speak, nor premeditate, but whatever may be given to you in that hour, that speak you, for it is not you who are speaking, but the Holy Spirit. ¹² 'And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and father child, and children shall rise up against parents, and shall put them to death, ¹³ and you shall be hated by all because of my name, but he who has endured to the end -- he shall be saved. ¹⁴ 'And when you may see the abomination of the desolation, that was spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (whoever is reading let him understand), then those in Judea, let them flee to the mountains; ¹⁵ and he upon the house-top, let him not come down to the house, nor come in to take anything out of his house; ¹⁶ and he who is in the field, let him not turn to the things behind, to take up his garment. ¹⁷ 'And woo to those with child, and to those giving suck, in those days; ¹⁸ and pray you that your flight may not be in winter, ¹⁹ for those days shall be tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the creation that God created, till now, and may not be; ²⁰ and if the Lord did not shorten the days, no flesh had been saved; but because of the chosen, whom He did choose to Himself, He did shorten the days. ²¹ 'And then, if any may say to you, Lo, here is the Christ, or, Lo, there, you may not believe; ²² for there shall rise false Christs and false prophets, and they shall give signs and wonders, to seduce, if possible, also the chosen; ²³ and you, take heed; lo, I have foretold you all things. ²⁴ 'But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, ²⁵ and the stars of the heaven shall be falling, and the powers that are in the heavens shall be shaken. ²⁶ 'And then they shall see the Son of Man coming in clouds with much power and glory, ²⁷ and then he shall send his messengers, and gather together his chosen from the four winds, from the end of the earth unto the end of heaven. ²⁸ 'And from the fig-tree learn you the simile: when the branch may already become tender, and may put forth the leaves, you know that near is the summer; ²⁹ so you, also, when these you may see coming to pass, you know that it is near, at the doors. ³⁰ Verily I say to you, that this generation may not pass away till all these things may come to pass; ³¹ the heaven and the earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. ³² 'And concerning that day and the hour no one has known -- not even the messengers who are in the heaven, not even the Son -- except the Father. ³³ Take heed, watch and pray, for you have not known when the time is; ³⁴ as a man who is gone abroad, having left his house, and given to his servants the authority, and to each one his work, did command also the porter that he may watch; ³⁵ watch you, therefore, for you have not known when the lord of the house does come, at even, or at midnight, or at cock-crowing, or at the morning; ³⁶ lest, having come suddenly, he may find you sleeping; ³⁷ and what I say to you, I say to all, Watch.

¹ And having gone forth, Jesus departed from the temple, and his disciples came near to show him the buildings of the temple, ² and Jesus said to them, 'Do you not see all these? Verily I say to you, There may not be left here a stone upon a stone, that shall not be thrown down.' ³ And when he is sitting on the mount of the Olives, the disciples came near to him by himself, saying, 'Tell us, when shall these be? And what is the sign of thy presence, and of the full end of the age?' ⁴ And Jesus answering said to them, 'Take heed that no one may lead you astray, ⁵ for many shall come in my name, saying, I am the Christ, and they shall lead many astray, ⁶ and you shall begin to hear of wars, and reports of wars; see, be not troubled, for it behooves all these to come to pass, but the end is not yet. ⁷ 'For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places; ⁸ and all these are the beginning of sorrows. ⁹ Then they shall deliver you up to tribulation, and shall kill you, and you shall be hated by all the nations because of my name; ¹⁰ and then shall many be stumbled, and they shall deliver up one another, and shall hate one another. ¹¹ 'And many false prophets shall arise, and shall lead many astray; ¹² and because of the abounding of the lawlessness, the love of the many shall become cold; ¹³ but he who did endure to the end, he shall be saved; ¹⁴ and this good news of the reign shall be proclaimed in all the world, for a testimony to all the nations; and then shall the end arrive. ¹⁵ 'Whenever, therefore, you may see the abomination of the desolation, that was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (whoever is reading let him observe) ¹⁶ then those in Judea -- let them flee to the mounts; ¹⁷ he on the house-top -- let him not come down to take up any thing out of his house; ¹⁸ and he in the field -- let him not turn back to take his garments. ¹⁹ 'And woo to those with child, and to those giving suck in those days; ²⁰ and pray you that your flight may not be in winter, nor on a sabbath; ²¹ for there shall be then great tribulation, such as was not from the beginning of the world till now, no, nor may be. ²² And if those days were not shortened, no flesh would have been saved; but because of the chosen, shall those days be shortened. ²³ 'Then if any one may say to you, Lo, here is the Christ! Or here! You may not believe; ²⁴ for there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and they shall give great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, also the chosen. ²⁵ Lo, I did tell you beforehand. ²⁶ 'If therefore they may say to you, Lo, in the wilderness he is, you may not go forth; lo, in the inner chambers, you may not believe; ²⁷ for as the lightning does come forth from the east, and does appear unto the west, so shall be also the presence of the Son of Man; ²⁸ for wherever the carcase may be, there shall the eagles be gathered together. ²⁹ 'And immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from the heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken; ³⁰ and then shall appear the sign of the Son of Man in the heaven; and then shall all the tribes of the earth smite the breast, and they shall see the Son of Man coming upon the clouds of the heaven, with power and much glory; ³¹ and he shall send his messengers with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his chosen from the four winds, from the ends of the heavens unto the ends thereof. ³² 'And from the fig-tree learn you the simile: When already its branch may have become tender, and the leaves it may put forth, you know that summer is near, ³³ so also you, when you may see all these, you know that it is near -- at the doors. ³⁴ Verily I say to you, this generation may not pass away till all these may come to pass. ³⁵ The heaven and the earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. ³⁶ 'And concerning that day and the hour no one has known -- not even the messengers of the heavens -- except my Father only; ³⁷ and as the days of Noah -- so shall be also the presence of the Son of Man; ³⁸ for as they were, in the days before the flood, eating, and drinking, marrying, and giving in marriage, till the day Noah entered into the ark, ³⁹ and they did not know till the flood came and took all away; so shall be also the presence of the Son of Man. ⁴⁰ Then two men shall be in the field, the one is received, and the one is left; ⁴¹ two women shall be grinding in the mill, one is received, and one is left. ⁴² 'Watch you therefore, because you have not known in what hour your Lord does come; ⁴³ and this know, that if the master of the house had known in what watch the thief does come, he had watched, and not permitted his house to be broken through; ⁴⁴ because of this also you, become you ready, because in what hour you do not think, the Son of Man does come. ⁴⁵ 'Who, then, is the servant, faithful and wise, whom his lord did set over his household, to give them the nourishment in season? ⁴⁶ Blessed that servant, whom his lord, having come, shall find doing so; ⁴⁷ verily I say to you, that over all his substance he will set him. ⁴⁸ 'And, if that evil servant may say in his heart, My Lord does delay to come, ⁴⁹ and may begin to beat the fellow-servants, and to eat and to drink with the drunken, ⁵⁰ the lord of that servant will arrive in a day when he does not expect, and in an hour of which he does not know, ⁵¹ and will cut him off, and his portion with the hypocrites will appoint; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth.

⁵ And certain saying about the temple, that with goodly stones and devoted things it has been adorned, he said, ⁶ 'These things that you behold -- days will come, in which there shall not be left a stone upon a stone, that shall not be thrown down.' ⁷ And they questioned him, saying, 'Teacher, when, then, shall these things be? and what is the sign when these things may be about to happen?' ⁸ And he said, 'See -- you may not be led astray, for many shall come in my name, saying -- I am he, and the time has come near; go not on then after them; ⁹ and when you may hear of wars and uprisings, be not terrified, for it is necessary for these things to happen first, but the end is not immediately.' ¹⁰ Then said he to them, 'Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, ¹¹ great shakings also in every place, and famines, and pestilences, there shall be; fearful things also, and great signs from heaven there shall be; ¹² and before all these, they shall lay on you their hands, and persecute, delivering up to synagogues and prisons, being brought before kings and governors for my name's sake; ¹³ and it shall become to you for a testimony. ¹⁴ 'Settle, then, to your hearts, not to meditate beforehand to reply, ¹⁵ for I will give to you a mouth and wisdom that all your opposers shall not be able to refute or resist. ¹⁶ 'And you shall be delivered up also by parents, and brothers, and kindred, and friends, and they shall put of you to death; ¹⁷ and you shall be hated by all because of my name -- ¹⁸ and a hair out of your head shall not perish; ¹⁹ in your patience possess you your souls. ²⁰ 'And when you may see Jerusalem surrounded by encampments, then know that come near did her desolation; ²¹ then those in Judea, let them flee to the mountains; and those in her midst, let them depart out; and those in the countries, let them not come in to her; ²² because these are days of vengeance, to fulfil all things that have been written. ²³ 'And woo to those with child, and to those giving suck, in those days; for there shall be great distress on the land, and wrath on this people; ²⁴ and they shall fall by the mouth of the sword, and shall be led captive to all the nations, and Jerusalem shall be trodden down by nations, till the times of nations be fulfilled. ²⁵ 'And there shall be signs in sun, and moon, and stars, and on the land is distress of nations with perplexity, sea and billow roaring; ²⁶ men fainting at heart from fear, and expectation of the things coming on the world, for the powers of the heavens shall be shaken. ²⁷ 'And then they shall see the Son of Man, coming in a cloud, with power and much glory; ²⁸ and these things beginning to happen bend yourselves back, and lift up your heads, because your redemption does draw near.' ²⁹ And he spake a simile to them: 'See the fig-tree, and all the trees, ³⁰ when they may now cast forth, having seen, of yourselves you know that now is the summer near; ³¹ so also you, when you may see these things happening, you know that near is the reign of God; ³² verily I say to you -- This generation may not pass away till all may have come to pass; ³³ the heaven and the earth shall pass away, but my words may not pass away. ³⁴ 'And take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts may be weighed down with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and anxieties of life, and suddenly that day may come on you, ³⁵ for as a snare it shall come on all those dwelling on the face of all the land, ³⁶ watch you, then, in every season, praying that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that are about to come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.'

² and Jesus said to them, 'Do you not see all these? Verily I say to you, There may not be left here a stone upon a stone, that shall not be thrown down.'

⁴¹ And when he came near, having seen the city, he wept over it, ⁴² saying -- 'If you did know, even you, at least in this your day, the things for your peace; but now they were hid from your eyes. ⁴³ 'Because days shall come upon you, and your enemies shall cast around you a rampart, and compass you round, and press you on every side, ⁴⁴ and lay you low, and your children within you, and they shall not leave in you a stone upon a stone, because you did not know the time of your inspection.'

⁶ 'These things that you behold -- days will come, in which there shall not be left a stone upon a stone, that shall not be thrown down.'

¹⁴ for we have heard him saying, That this Jesus the Nazarean shall overthrow this place, and shall change the customs that Moses delivered to us;'

² and the court that is without the sanctuary leave out, and you may not measure it, because it was given to the nations, and the holy city they shall tread down forty-two months;

¹⁰ And the disciples having come near, said to him, 'Why in similes do you speak to them?'

³⁶ Then having let away the multitudes, Jesus came to the house, and his disciples came near to him, saying, 'Explain to us the simile of the darnel of the field.'

¹ And after six days Jesus takes Peter, and James, and John his brother, and does bring them up to a high mount by themselves,

¹ And when they came near to Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage, unto the mount of the Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,

³ And when he is sitting on the mount of the Olives, the disciples came near to him by himself, saying, 'Tell us, when shall these be? And what is the sign of thy presence, and of the full end of the age?'

¹⁶ And, walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon, and Andrew his brother, casting a drag into the sea, for they were fishers, ¹⁷ and Jesus said to them, 'Come you after me, and I shall make you to become fishers of men;' ¹⁸ and immediately, having left their nets, they followed him. ¹⁹ And having gone on thence a little, he saw James of Zebedee, and John his brother, and they were in the boat refitting the nets,

³⁴ and without a simile he was not speaking to them, and by themselves, to his disciples he was expounding all.

³⁷ And he did not suffer any one to follow with him, except Peter, and James, and John the brother of James;

² And after six days does Jesus take Peter, and James, and John, and brings them up to a high mount by themselves, alone, and he was transfigured before them,

³⁵ And there come near to him James and John, the sons of Zebedee, saying, 'Teacher, we wish that whatever we may ask for ourselves, you may do for us;'

³³ and he takes Peter, and James, and John with him, and began to be amazed, and to be very heavy,

⁴⁰ Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who heard from John, and followed him; ⁴¹ this one does first find his own brother Simon, and said to him, 'We have found the Messiah,' (which is, being interpreted, The Anointed,)

⁷ And they questioned him, saying, 'Teacher, when, then, shall these things be? and what is the sign when these things may be about to happen?'

²¹ Peter having seen this one, said to Jesus, 'Lord, and what of this one?' ²² Jesus said to him, 'If him I will to remain till I come, what -- to you? be you following me.' This word, therefore, went forth to the brethren that that disciple does not die,

⁶ They, therefore, indeed, having come together, were questioning him, saying, 'Lord, do you at this time restore the reign to Israel?' ⁷ and he said unto them, 'It is not yours to know times or seasons that the Father did appoint in His own authority;

⁴ And Jesus answering said to them, 'Take heed that no one may lead you astray, ⁵ for many shall come in my name, saying, I am the Christ, and they shall lead many astray,

⁸ And he said, 'See -- you may not be led astray, for many shall come in my name, saying -- I am he, and the time has come near; go not on then after them;

³³ Be not led astray; evil communications corrupt good manners;

⁶ Let no one deceive you with vain words, for because of these things comes the anger of God upon the sons of the disobedience,

⁸ See that no one shall be carrying you away as spoil through the philosophy and vain deceit, according to the deliverance of men, according to the rudiments of the world, and not according to Christ,

³ let not any one deceive you in any manner, because -- if the falling away may not come first, and the man of sin be revealed -- the son of the destruction,

¹ Beloved, every spirit believe not, but prove the spirits, if of God they are, because many false prophets have gone forth to the world;

⁷ And when the thousand years may be finished, the Adversary shall be loosed out of his prison, ⁸ and he shall go forth to lead the nations astray, that are in the four corners of the earth -- Gog and Magog -- to gather them together to war, of whom the number is as the sand of the sea;

⁵ for many shall come in my name, saying, I am the Christ, and they shall lead many astray,

¹¹ 'And many false prophets shall arise, and shall lead many astray;

²³ 'Then if any one may say to you, Lo, here is the Christ! Or here! You may not believe; ²⁴ for there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and they shall give great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, also the chosen.

²² for there shall rise false Christs and false prophets, and they shall give signs and wonders, to seduce, if possible, also the chosen;

⁴³ 'I have come in the name of my Father, and you do not receive me; if another may come in his own name, him you will receive;

²⁴ I said, therefore, to you, that you shall die in your sins, for if you may not believe that I am he, you shall die in your sins.'

³⁶ for before these days rose up Theudas, saying, that himself was some one, to whom a number of men did join themselves, as it were four hundred, who was slain, and all, as many as were obeying him, were scattered, and came to nought. ³⁷ 'After this one rose up, Judas the Galilean, in the days of the enrollment, and drew away much people after him, and that one perished, and all, as many as were obeying him, were scattered; ³⁸ and now I say to you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone, because if this counsel or this work may be of men, it will be overthrown, ³⁹ and if it be of God, you are not able to overthrow it, lest perhaps also you be found fighting against God.'

⁷ 'Woe to the world from the stumbling-blocks! For there is a necessity for the stumbling-blocks to come, but woo to that man through whom the stumbling-block does come!

⁶ and you shall begin to hear of wars, and reports of wars; see, be not troubled, for it behooves all these to come to pass, but the end is not yet. ⁷ 'For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places;

⁹ and when you may hear of wars and uprisings, be not terrified, for it is necessary for these things to happen first, but the end is not immediately.' ¹⁰ Then said he to them, 'Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, ¹¹ great shakings also in every place, and famines, and pestilences, there shall be; fearful things also, and great signs from heaven there shall be;

¹ 'Let not your heart be troubled, believe in God, also in me believe;

²⁷ 'Peace I leave to you; my peace I give to you, not according as the world does give do I give to you; let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid;

³ opening and alleging, 'That the Christ it behoved to suffer, and to rise again out of the dead, and that this is the Christ -- Jesus whom I proclaim to you.'

⁸ and all these are the beginning of sorrows.

²⁸ and one of them, by name Agabus, having stood up, did signify through the Spirit a great dearth is about to be throughout all the world -- which also came to pass in the time of Claudius Caesar --

³ for when they may say, Peace and surety, then sudden destruction does stand by them, as the travail does her who is with child, and they shall not escape;

⁴ and there went forth another horse -- red, and to him who is sitting upon it, there was given to him to take the peace from the land, and that one another they may slay, and there was given to him a great sword.

¹⁷ And, take you heed of men, for they will give you up to sanhedrins, and in their synagogues they will scourge you, ¹⁸ and before governors and kings you shall be brought for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the nations.

³⁴ 'Because of this, lo, I send to you prophets, and wise men, and scribes, and of them you will kill and crucify, and of them you will scourge in your synagogues, and will pursue from city to city; ³⁵ that on you may come all the righteous blood being poured out on the earth from the blood of Abel the righteous, unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar: ³⁶ verily I say to you, all these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ 'Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that is killing the prophets, and stoning those sent unto you, how often did I will to gather your children together, as a hen does gather her own chickens under the wings, and you did not will.

⁹ Then they shall deliver you up to tribulation, and shall kill you, and you shall be hated by all the nations because of my name; ¹⁰ and then shall many be stumbled, and they shall deliver up one another, and shall hate one another.

⁴⁴ and said to him, 'See you may say nothing to any one, but go away, yourself show to the priest, and bring near for your cleansing the things Moses directed, for a testimony to them.'

¹¹ and as many as may not receive you, nor hear you, going out thence, shake off the dust that is under your feet for a testimony to them; verily I say to you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom or Gomorrah in a day of judgment than for that city.'

⁵ And Jesus answering them, began to say, 'Take heed lest any one may lead you astray,

⁵ and as many as may not receive you, going forth from that city, even the dust from your feet shake off, for a testimony against them.'

¹⁶ 'And you shall be delivered up also by parents, and brothers, and kindred, and friends, and they shall put of you to death; ¹⁷ and you shall be hated by all because of my name -- ¹⁸ and a hair out of your head shall not perish;

²⁰ 'Remember the word that I said to you, A servant is not greater than his lord; if me they did persecute, you also they will persecute; if my word they did keep, yours also they will keep;

² out of the synagogues they will put you; but an hour does come, that every one who has killed you, may think to offer service unto God;

¹ And as they are speaking unto the people, there came to them the priests, and the magistrate of the temple, and the Sadducees -- ² being grieved because of their teaching the people, and preaching in Jesus the rising again out of the dead -- ³ and they laid hands upon them, and did put them in custody unto the morrow, for it was evening already; ⁴ and many of those hearing the word did believe, and the number of the men became, as it were, five thousand. ⁵ And it came to pass upon the morrow, there were gathered together of them the rulers, and elders, and scribes, to Jerusalem, ⁶ and Annas the chief priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the chief priest, ⁷ and having set them in the midst, they were inquiring, 'In what power, or in what name did you do this?' ⁸ Then Peter, having been filled with the Holy Spirit, said unto them: 'Rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, ⁹ if we to-day are examined concerning the good deed to the ailing man, by whom he has been saved, ¹⁰ be it known to all of you, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you did crucify, whom God did raise out of the dead, in him has this one stood by before you whole. ¹¹ 'This is the stone that was set at nought by you -- the builders, that became head of a corner; ¹² and there is not salvation in any other, for there is no other name under the heaven that has been given among men, in which it behooves us to be saved.' ¹³ And beholding the openness of Peter and John, and having perceived that they are men unlettered and plebeian, they were wondering -- they were taking knowledge also of them that with Jesus they had been -- ¹⁴ and seeing the man standing with them who has been healed, they had nothing to say against it, ¹⁵ and having commanded them to go away out of the sanhedrin, they took counsel with one another, ¹⁶ saying, 'What shall we do to these men? because that, indeed, a notable sign has been done through them, to all those dwelling in Jerusalem is manifest, and we are not able to deny it; ¹⁷ but that it may spread no further toward the people, let us strictly threaten them no more to speak in this name to any man.' ¹⁸ And having called them, they charged them not to speak at all, nor to teach, in the name of Jesus, ¹⁹ and Peter and John answering unto them said, 'Whether it is righteous before God to hearken to you rather than to God, judge you; ²⁰ for we cannot but speak what we did see and hear.' ²¹ And they having further threatened them, let them go, finding nothing how they may punish them, because of the people, because all were glorifying God for that which has been done,

¹⁷ And having risen, the chief priest, and all those with him -- being the sect of the Sadducees -- were filled with zeal, ¹⁸ and laid their hands upon the apostles, and did put them in a public prison; ¹⁹ and a messenger of the Lord through the night opened the doors of the prison, having also brought them forth, he said, ²⁰ 'Go on, and standing, speak in the temple to the people all the sayings of this life;' ²¹ and having heard, they did enter at the dawn into the temple, and were teaching. And the chief priest having come, and those with him, they called together the sanhedrin and all the senate of the sons of Israel, and they sent to the prison to have them brought, ²² and the officers having come, did not find them in the prison, and having turned back, they told, ²³ saying -- 'The prison indeed we found shut in all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors, and having opened -- within we found no one.' ²⁴ And as the priest, and the magistrate of the temple, and the chief priests, heard these words, they were doubting concerning them to what this would come; ²⁵ and coming near, a certain one told them, saying -- 'Lo, the men whom you did put in the prison are in the temple standing and teaching the people;' ²⁶ then the magistrate having gone away with officers, brought them without violence, for they were fearing the people, lest they should be stoned; ²⁷ and having brought them, they set them in the sanhedrin, and the chief priest questioned them, ²⁸ saying, 'Did not we strictly command you not to teach in this name? and lo, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring upon us the blood of this man.' ²⁹ And Peter and the apostles answering, said, 'To obey God it behooves, rather than men; ³⁰ and the God of our fathers did raise up Jesus, whom you slew, having hanged upon a tree; ³¹ this one God, a Prince and a Saviour, has exalted with His right hand, to give reformation to Israel, and forgiveness of sins; ³² and we are His witnesses of these sayings, and the Holy Spirit also, whom God gave to those obeying him.' ³³ And they having heard, were cut to the heart, and were taking counsel to slay them, ³⁴ but a certain one, having risen up in the sanhedrin -- a Pharisee, by name Gamaliel, a teacher of law honoured by all the people -- commanded to put the apostles forth a little, ³⁵ and said unto them, 'Men, Israelites, take heed to yourselves about these men, what you are about to do, ³⁶ for before these days rose up Theudas, saying, that himself was some one, to whom a number of men did join themselves, as it were four hundred, who was slain, and all, as many as were obeying him, were scattered, and came to nought. ³⁷ 'After this one rose up, Judas the Galilean, in the days of the enrollment, and drew away much people after him, and that one perished, and all, as many as were obeying him, were scattered; ³⁸ and now I say to you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone, because if this counsel or this work may be of men, it will be overthrown, ³⁹ and if it be of God, you are not able to overthrow it, lest perhaps also you be found fighting against God.' ⁴⁰ And to him they agreed, and having called near the apostles, having beaten them, they commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go;

¹¹ then they suborned men, saying -- 'We have heard him speaking evil sayings in regard to Moses and God.' ¹² They did stir up also the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and having come upon him, they caught him, and brought him to the sanhedrin; ¹³ they set up also false witnesses, saying, 'This one does not cease to speak evil sayings against this holy place and the law, ¹⁴ for we have heard him saying, That this Jesus the Nazarean shall overthrow this place, and shall change the customs that Moses delivered to us;' ¹⁵ and gazing at him, all those sitting in the sanhedrin saw his face as it were the face of a messenger.

⁵⁴ And hearing these things, they were cut to the hearts, and did gnash the teeth at him;

¹ And Saul, yet breathing of threatening and slaughter to the disciples of the Lord, having gone to the chief priest, ² did ask from him letters to Damascus, unto the synagogues, that if he may find any being of the way, both men and women, he may bring them bound to Jerusalem.

¹³ And Ananias answered, 'Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how many evils he did to Your saints in Jerusalem, ¹⁴ and here he has authority from the chief priests, to bind all those calling on Your name.'

¹⁶ for I will show him how many things it behooves him for My name to suffer.'

¹ And about that time, Herod the king put forth his hands, to do evil to certain of those of the assembly, ² and he killed James, the brother of John, with the sword, ³ and having seen that it is pleasing to the Jews, he added to lay hold of Peter also -- and they were the days of the unleavened food --

²⁰ and having brought them to the magistrates, they said, 'These men do exceedingly trouble our city, being Jews; ²¹ and they proclaim customs that are not lawful for us to receive nor to do, being Romans.' ²² And the multitude rose up together against them, and the magistrates having torn their garments from them, were commanding to beat them with rods, ²³ many blows also having laid upon them, they cast them to prison, having given charge to the jailor to keep them safely, ²⁴ who such a charge having received, did put them to the inner prison, and their feet made fast in the stocks.

¹¹ and he having come unto us, and having taken up the girdle of Paul, having bound also his own hands and feet, said, 'Thus said the Holy Spirit, The man whose is this girdle -- so shall the Jews in Jerusalem bind, and they shall deliver him up to the hands of nations.'

³¹ and they seeking to kill him, a rumour came to the chief captain of the band that all Jerusalem has been thrown into confusion, ³² who, at once, having taken soldiers and centurions, ran down upon them, and they having seen the chief captain and the soldiers, did leave off beating Paul. ³³ Then the chief captain, having come near, took him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains, and was inquiring who he may be, and what it is he has been doing, ³⁴ and some were crying out one thing, and some another, among the multitude, and not being able to know the certainty because of the tumult, he commanded him to be carried to the castle, ³⁵ and when he came upon the steps, it happened he was borne by the soldiers, because of the violence of the multitude, ³⁶ for the crowd of the people was following after, crying, 'Away with him.' ³⁷ And Paul being about to be led into the castle, said to the chief captain, 'Is it permitted to me to say anything unto you?' and he said, 'Greek do you know? ³⁸ are not you, then, the Egyptian who before these days made an uprising, and did lead into the desert the four thousand men of the assassins?' ³⁹ And Paul said, 'I, indeed, am a man, a Jew, of Tarsus of Cilicia, of no mean city a citizen; and I beseech you, suffer me to speak unto the people.' ⁴⁰ And he having given him leave, Paul having stood upon the stairs, did beckon with the hand to the people, and there having been a great silence, he spake unto them in the Hebrew dialect, saying:

¹⁹ and I said, Lord, they -- they know that I was imprisoning and was scourging in every synagogue those believing on you; ²⁰ and when the blood of your witness Stephen was being poured forth, I also was standing by and assenting to his death, and keeping the garments of those putting him to death;

¹ And Paul having earnestly beheld the sanhedrin, said, 'Men, brethren, I in all good conscience have lived to God unto this day;' ² and the chief priest Ananias commanded those standing by him to smite him on the mouth,

¹ And after five days came down the chief priest Ananias, with the elders, and a certain orator -- Tertullus, and they made manifest to the governor the things against Paul; ² and he having been called, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, 'Much peace enjoying through you, and worthy deeds being done to this nation through your forethought, ³ always, also, and everywhere we receive it, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness; ⁴ and that I may not be further tedious to you, I pray you to hear us concisely in your gentleness; ⁵ for having found this man a pestilence, and moving a dissension to all the Jews through the world -- a ringleader also of the sect of the Nazarenes -- ⁶ who also the temple did try to profane, whom also we took, and according to our law did wish to judge, ⁷ and Lysias the chief captain having come near, with much violence, out of our hands did take away, ⁸ having commanded his accusers to come to you, from whom you may be able, yourself having examined, to know concerning all these things of which we accuse him;' ⁹ and the Jews also agreed, professing these things to be so.

¹ Festus, therefore, having come into the province, after three days went up to Jerusalem from Caesarea, ² and the chief priest and the principal men of the Jews made manifest to him the things against Paul, and were calling on him, ³ asking favour against him, that he may send for him to Jerusalem, making an ambush to put him to death in the way. ⁴ Then, indeed, Festus answered that Paul is kept in Caesarea, and himself is about speedily to go on thither, ⁵ 'Therefore those able among you -- said he -- having come down together, if there be anything in this man -- let them accuse him;' ⁶ and having tarried among them more than ten days, having gone down to Caesarea, on the morrow having sat upon the tribunal, he commanded Paul to be brought; ⁷ and he having come, there stood round about the Jews who have come down from Jerusalem -- many and weighty charges they are bringing against Paul, which they were not able to prove, ⁸ he making defence -- 'Neither in regard to the law of the Jews, nor in regard to the temple, nor in regard to Caesar -- did I commit any sin.' ⁹ And Festus willing to lay on the Jews a favour, answering Paul, said, 'Art you willing, to Jerusalem having gone up, there concerning these things to be judged before me?' ¹⁰ and Paul said, 'At the tribunal of Caesar I am standing, where it behooves me to be judged; to Jews I did no unrighteousness, as you do also very well know; ¹¹ for if indeed I am unrighteous, and anything worthy of death have done, I deprecate not to die; and if there is none of the things of which these accuse me, no one is able to make a favour of me to them; to Caesar I appeal!' ¹² then Festus, having communed with the council, answered, 'To Caesar you have appealed; to Caesar you shall go.' ¹³ And certain days having passed, Agrippa the king, and Bernice, came down to Caesarea saluting Festus, ¹⁴ and as they were continuing there more days, Festus submitted to the king the things concerning Paul, saying, 'There is a certain man, left by Felix, a prisoner, ¹⁵ about whom, in my being at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews laid information, asking a decision against him, ¹⁶ unto whom I answered, that it is not a custom of Romans to make a favour of any man to die, before that he who is accused may have the accusers face to face, and may receive place of defence in regard to the charge laid against him. ¹⁷ 'They, therefore, having come together -- I, making no delay, on the succeeding day having sat upon the tribunal, did command the man to be brought, ¹⁸ concerning whom the accusers, having stood up, were bringing against him no accusation of the things I was thinking of, ¹⁹ but certain questions concerning their own religion they had against him, and concerning a certain Jesus who was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive; ²⁰ and I, doubting in regard to the question concerning this, said, If he would wish to go on to Jerusalem, and there to be judged concerning these things -- ²¹ but Paul having appealed to be kept to the hearing of Sebastus, I did command him to be kept till I might send him unto Caesar.' ²² And Agrippa said unto Festus, 'I was wishing also myself to hear the man;' and he said, 'To-morrow you shall hear him;' ²³ on the morrow, therefore -- on the coming of Agrippa and Bernice with much display, and they having entered into the audience chamber, with the chief captains also, and the principal men of the city, and Festus having ordered -- Paul was brought forth. ²⁴ And Festus said, 'King Agrippa, and all men who are present with us, you see this one, about whom all the multitude of the Jews did deal with me, both in Jerusalem and here, crying out, He ought not to live any longer; ²⁵ and I, having found him to have done nothing worthy of death, and he also himself having appealed to Sebastus, I decided to send him, ²⁶ concerning whom I have no certain thing to write to my lord, therefore I brought him forth before you, and specially before you, king Agrippa, that the examination having been made, I may have something to write;

⁹ for I think that God did set forth us the apostles last -- as appointed to death, because a spectacle we became to the world, and messengers, and men; ¹⁰ we are fools because of Christ, and you wise in Christ; we are ailing, and you strong; you glorious, and we dishonoured; ¹¹ unto the present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and wander about, ¹² and labour, working with our own hands; being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer; ¹³ being spoken evil of, we entreat; as filth of the world we did become -- of all things an offscouring -- till now.

²³ ministrants of Christ are they? -- as beside myself I speak -- I more; in labours more abundantly, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequently, in deaths many times; ²⁴ from Jews five times forty stripes save one I did receive; ²⁵ thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice was I shipwrecked, a night and a day in the deep I have passed; ²⁶ journeyings many times, perils of rivers, perils of robbers, perils from kindred, perils from nations, perils in city, perils in wilderness, perils in sea, perils among false brethren; ²⁷ in laboriousness and painfulness, in watchings many times, in hunger and thirst, in fastings many times, in cold and nakedness;

²⁹ because to you it was granted, on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in him, but also on behalf of him to suffer;

⁵ a token of the righteous judgment of God, for your being counted worthy of the reign of God, for which also you suffer,

⁹ I, John, who also am your brother, and fellow-partner in the tribulation, and in the reign and endurance, of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, because of the word of God, and because of the testimony of Jesus Christ;

¹⁰ 'Be not afraid of the things that you are about to suffer; lo, the devil is about to cast of you to prison, that you may be tried, and you shall have tribulation ten days; become you faithful unto death, and I will give to you the crown of the life.

¹³ I have known your works, and where you do dwell -- where the throne of the Adversary is -- and you do hold fast my name, and you did not deny my faith, even in the days in which Antipas was my faithful witness, who was put to death beside you, where the Adversary does dwell.

⁹ And when he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those slain because of the word of God, and because of the testimony that they held, ¹⁰ and they were crying with a great voice, saying, 'Till when, O Master, the Holy and the True, do You not judge and take vengeance of our blood from those dwelling upon the land?' ¹¹ And there was given to each one white robes, and it was said to them that they may rest themselves yet a little time, till may be fulfilled also their fellow-servants and their brethren, who are about to be killed -- even as they.

¹⁴ and this good news of the reign shall be proclaimed in all the world, for a testimony to all the nations; and then shall the end arrive.

¹⁸ And having come near, Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'Given to me was all authority in heaven and on earth; ¹⁹ having gone, then, disciple all the nations, (baptizing them -- to the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,

¹⁵ and he said to them, 'Having gone to all the world, proclaim the good news to all the creation;

⁸ First, indeed, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is proclaimed in the whole world;

¹⁸ but I say, Did they not hear? yes, indeed -- 'to all the earth their voice went forth, and to the ends of the habitable world their sayings.'

¹⁹ in power of signs and wonders, in power of the Spirit of God; so that I, from Jerusalem, and in a circle as far as Illyricum, have fully preached the good news of the Christ;

⁶ which is present to you, as also in all the world, and is bearing fruit, as also in you, from the day in which you heard, and knew the grace of God in truth;

²³ if also you remain in the faith, being founded and settled, and not moved away from the hope of the good news, which you heard, which was preached in all the creation that is under the heaven, of which I became -- I Paul -- a minister.

⁶ And I saw another messenger flying in mid-heaven, having good news age-during to proclaim to those dwelling upon the earth, and to every nation, and tribe, and tongue, and people,

¹⁷ And, take you heed of men, for they will give you up to sanhedrins, and in their synagogues they will scourge you,

¹⁹ 'And whenever they may deliver you up, be not anxious how or what you may speak, for it shall be given you in that hour what you shall speak; ²⁰ for you are not the speakers, but the Spirit of your Father that is speaking in you. ²¹ 'And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and father child, and children shall rise up against parents, and shall put them to death,

⁹ 'And take you heed to yourselves, for they shall deliver you up to sanhedrins, and to synagogues, you shall be beaten, and before governors and kings you shall be set for my sake, for a testimony to them;

¹¹ 'And when they bring you before the synagogues, and the rulers, and the authorities, be not anxious how or what ye may reply, or what you may say, ¹² for the Holy Spirit shall teach you in that hour what it is necessary for you to say.'

¹⁴ 'Settle, then, to your hearts, not to meditate beforehand to reply, ¹⁵ for I will give to you a mouth and wisdom that all your opposers shall not be able to refute or resist.

²⁷ John answered and said, 'A man is not able to receive anything, if it may not have been given him from the heaven;

⁴ and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, according as the Spirit was giving them to declare.

¹³ 'The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, did glorify His child Jesus, whom you delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, he having given judgment to release him,

⁸ Then Peter, having been filled with the Holy Spirit, said unto them: 'Rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, ⁹ if we to-day are examined concerning the good deed to the ailing man, by whom he has been saved, ¹⁰ be it known to all of you, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you did crucify, whom God did raise out of the dead, in him has this one stood by before you whole. ¹¹ 'This is the stone that was set at nought by you -- the builders, that became head of a corner; ¹² and there is not salvation in any other, for there is no other name under the heaven that has been given among men, in which it behooves us to be saved.' ¹³ And beholding the openness of Peter and John, and having perceived that they are men unlettered and plebeian, they were wondering -- they were taking knowledge also of them that with Jesus they had been -- ¹⁴ and seeing the man standing with them who has been healed, they had nothing to say against it, ¹⁵ and having commanded them to go away out of the sanhedrin, they took counsel with one another, ¹⁶ saying, 'What shall we do to these men? because that, indeed, a notable sign has been done through them, to all those dwelling in Jerusalem is manifest, and we are not able to deny it; ¹⁷ but that it may spread no further toward the people, let us strictly threaten them no more to speak in this name to any man.' ¹⁸ And having called them, they charged them not to speak at all, nor to teach, in the name of Jesus, ¹⁹ and Peter and John answering unto them said, 'Whether it is righteous before God to hearken to you rather than to God, judge you; ²⁰ for we cannot but speak what we did see and hear.' ²¹ And they having further threatened them, let them go, finding nothing how they may punish them, because of the people, because all were glorifying God for that which has been done, ²² for above forty years of age was the man upon whom had been done this sign of the healing.

³¹ And they having prayed, the place was shaken in which they were gathered together, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and were speaking the word of God with freedom,

¹⁰ and they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit with which he was speaking;

¹⁵ and gazing at him, all those sitting in the sanhedrin saw his face as it were the face of a messenger.

⁵⁵ and being full of the Holy Spirit, having looked stedfastly to the heaven, he saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,

¹³ which things also we speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Holy Spirit, with spiritual things spiritual things comparing,

⁵ which in other generations was not made known to the sons of men, as it was now revealed to His holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit --

¹⁹ and in behalf of me, that to me may be given a word in the opening of my mouth, in freedom, to make known the secret of the good news, ²⁰ for which I am an ambassador in a chain, that in it I may speak freely -- as it behooves\'7bnecessitates\'7d me to speak.

⁵ and if any of you do lack wisdom, let him ask from God, who is giving to all liberally, and not reproaching, and it shall be given to him;

¹² to whom it was revealed, that not to themselves, but to us they were ministering these, which now were told to you (through those who did proclaim good news to you,) in the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, to which things messengers do desire to bend looking.

²¹ 'And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and father child, and children shall rise up against parents, and shall put them to death,

¹⁰ and then shall many be stumbled, and they shall deliver up one another, and shall hate one another.

⁵² for there shall be henceforth five in one house divided -- three against two, and two against three; ⁵³ a father shall be divided against a son, and a son against a father, a mother against a daughter, and a daughter against a mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.'

¹⁶ 'And you shall be delivered up also by parents, and brothers, and kindred, and friends, and they shall put of you to death;

¹¹ 'Blessed are you whenever they may reproach you, and may persecute, and may say any evil thing against you falsely for my sake -- ¹² rejoice you and be glad, because your reward is great in the heavens, for thus did they persecute the prophets who were before you.

²² and you shall be hated by all because of my name, but he who has endured to the end, he shall be saved.

⁹ Then they shall deliver you up to tribulation, and shall kill you, and you shall be hated by all the nations because of my name;

¹³ but he who did endure to the end, he shall be saved;

²² 'Happy are you when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you, and shall reproach, and shall cast forth your name as evil, for the Son of Man's sake --

¹⁷ and you shall be hated by all because of my name --

¹⁸ if the world does hate you, you know that it has hated me before you; ¹⁹ if of the world you were, the world its own would have been loving, and because of the world you are not -- but I chose out of the world -- because of this the world hates you.

²¹ but all these things will they do to you, because of my name, because they have not known Him who sent me;

¹⁴ I have given to them Your word, and the world did hate them, because they are not of the world, as I am not of the world;

⁷ to those, indeed, who in continuance of a good work, do seek glory, and honour, and incorruptibility -- life age-during;

⁹ and in the doing good we may not be faint-hearted, for at the proper time we shall reap -- not desponding;

¹⁴ for partakers we have become of the Christ, if the beginning of the confidence unto the end we may hold fast,

³⁹ and we are not of those drawing back to destruction, but of those believing to a preserving of soul.

¹² Happy the man who does endure temptation, because, becoming approved, he shall receive the crown of the life, which the Lord did promise to those loving Him.

¹³ Do not wonder, my brethren, if the world does hate you;

¹⁰ 'Because you did keep the word of my endurance, I also will keep you from the hour of the trial that is about to come upon all the world, to try those dwelling upon the earth.

⁵¹ Jesus said to them, 'Did you understand all these?' They say to him, 'Yes, sir.'

¹⁵ 'Whenever, therefore, you may see the abomination of the desolation, that was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (whoever is reading let him observe) ¹⁶ then those in Judea -- let them flee to the mounts; ¹⁷ he on the house-top -- let him not come down to take up any thing out of his house; ¹⁸ and he in the field -- let him not turn back to take his garments. ¹⁹ 'And woo to those with child, and to those giving suck in those days; ²⁰ and pray you that your flight may not be in winter, nor on a sabbath; ²¹ for there shall be then great tribulation, such as was not from the beginning of the world till now, no, nor may be. ²² And if those days were not shortened, no flesh would have been saved; but because of the chosen, shall those days be shortened. ²³ 'Then if any one may say to you, Lo, here is the Christ! Or here! You may not believe; ²⁴ for there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and they shall give great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, also the chosen. ²⁵ Lo, I did tell you beforehand. ²⁶ 'If therefore they may say to you, Lo, in the wilderness he is, you may not go forth; lo, in the inner chambers, you may not believe; ²⁷ for as the lightning does come forth from the east, and does appear unto the west, so shall be also the presence of the Son of Man; ²⁸ for wherever the carcase may be, there shall the eagles be gathered together.

²⁰ 'And when you may see Jerusalem surrounded by encampments, then know that come near did her desolation; ²¹ then those in Judea, let them flee to the mountains; and those in her midst, let them depart out; and those in the countries, let them not come in to her; ²² because these are days of vengeance, to fulfil all things that have been written. ²³ 'And woo to those with child, and to those giving suck, in those days; for there shall be great distress on the land, and wrath on this people; ²⁴ and they shall fall by the mouth of the sword, and shall be led captive to all the nations, and Jerusalem shall be trodden down by nations, till the times of nations be fulfilled.

³⁰ and Philip having run near, heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, 'Do you then know what you do read?' ³¹ and he said, 'Why, how am I able, if some one may not guide me?' he called Philip also, having come up, to sit with him.

⁷ yet the things without life giving sound -- whether pipe or harp -- if a difference in the sounds they may not give, how shall be known that which is piped or that which is harped? ⁸ for if also an uncertain sound a trumpet may give, who shall prepare himself for battle?

²⁰ Brethren, become not children in the understanding, but in the evil be you babes, and in the understanding become you perfect;

³ Happy is he who is reading, and those hearing, the words of the prophecy, and keeping the things written in it -- for the time is near!

¹⁸ Here is the wisdom! He who is having the understanding, let him count the number of the beast, for the number of a man it is, and its number is 666.

¹⁶ then those in Judea -- let them flee to the mounts; ¹⁷ he on the house-top -- let him not come down to take up any thing out of his house; ¹⁸ and he in the field -- let him not turn back to take his garments.

³¹ in that day, he who shall be on the house top, and his vessels in the house, let him not come down to take them away; and he in the field, in like manner, let him not turn backward; ³² remember the wife of Lot. ³³ Whoever may seek to save his life, shall lose it; and whoever may lose it, shall preserve it.

¹⁸ And we, being exceedingly tempest-tossed, the succeeding day they were making a clearing, ¹⁹ and on the third day with our own hands the tackling of the ship we cast out,

³⁸ and having eaten sufficient nourishment, they were lightening the ship, casting forth the wheat into the sea.

⁷ But what things were to me gains, these I have counted, because of the Christ, loss; ⁸ yes, indeed, and I count all things to be loss, because of the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, because of whom of the all things I suffered loss, and do count them to be refuse, that Christ I may gain, and be found in him,

⁷ By faith Noah, having been divinely warned concerning the things not yet seen, having feared, did prepare an ark to the salvation of his house, through which he did condemn the world, and of the righteousness according to faith he became heir.

¹⁹ 'And woo to those with child, and to those giving suck in those days; ²⁰ and pray you that your flight may not be in winter, nor on a sabbath; ²¹ for there shall be then great tribulation, such as was not from the beginning of the world till now, no, nor may be.

²³ 'And woo to those with child, and to those giving suck, in those days; for there shall be great distress on the land, and wrath on this people;

²⁹ for, lo, days do come, in which they shall say, Happy the barren, and wombs that did not bare, and paps that did not give suck;

²¹ for there shall be then great tribulation, such as was not from the beginning of the world till now, no, nor may be.

⁶ but from the beginning of the creation, a male and a female God did make them;

²² And if those days were not shortened, no flesh would have been saved; but because of the chosen, shall those days be shortened.

⁵ So then also in the present time a remnant according to the choice of grace there has been; ⁶ and if by grace, no more of works, otherwise the grace becomes no more grace; and if of works, it is no more grace, otherwise the work is no more work. ⁷ What then? What Israel does seek after, this it did not obtain, and the chosen did obtain, and the rest were hardened,

²³ And those also, if they may not remain in unbelief, shall be graffed in, for God is able again to graff them in; ²⁴ for if you, out of the olive tree, wild by nature, wast cut out, and, contrary to nature, wast graffed into a good olive tree, how much rather shall they, who are according to nature, be graffed into their own olive tree?

²⁸ As regards, indeed, the good tidings, they are enemies on your account; and as regards the choice -- beloved on account of the fathers; ²⁹ for unrepented of are the gifts and the calling of God; ³⁰ for as you also once did not believe in God, and now did find kindness by the unbelief of these: ³¹ so also these now did not believe, that in your kindness they also may find kindness; ³² for God did shut up together the whole to unbelief, that to the whole He might do kindness.

²³ 'Then if any one may say to you, Lo, here is the Christ! Or here! You may not believe; ²⁴ for there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and they shall give great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, also the chosen. ²⁵ Lo, I did tell you beforehand.

²³ and they shall say to you, Lo, here; or lo, there; you may not go away, nor follow; ²⁴ for as the lightning that is lightening out of the one part under heaven, to the other part under heaven does shine, so shall be also the Son of Man in his day;

¹⁵ 'But, take heed of the false prophets, who come unto you in sheep's clothing, and inwardly are ravening wolves.

²⁴ for there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and they shall give great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, also the chosen.

⁶ for many shall come in my name, saying -- I am he, and many they shall lead astray;

⁴⁸ Jesus then said unto him, 'If signs and wonders you may not see, you will not believe.'

²⁷ according as I said to you: My sheep my voice do hear, and I know them, and they follow me, ²⁸ and life age-during I give to them, and they shall not perish -- to the age, and no one shall pluck them out of my hand;

⁸ and then shall be revealed the Lawless One, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the manifestation of his presence, ⁹ him, whose presence is according to the working of the Adversary, in all power, and signs, and lying wonders, ¹⁰ and in all deceitfulness of the unrighteousness in those perishing, because the love of the truth they did not receive for their being saved, ¹¹ and because of this shall God send to them a working of delusion, for their believing the lie, ¹² that they may be judged -- all who did not believe the truth, but were well pleased in the unrighteousness. ¹³ And we -- we ought to give thanks to God always for you, brethren, beloved by the Lord, that God did choose you from the beginning to salvation, in sanctification of the Spirit, and belief of the truth, ¹⁴ to which He did call you through our good news, to the acquiring of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ;

¹⁹ sure, nevertheless, has the foundation of God stood, having this seal, 'The Lord has known those who are His,' and 'Let him depart from unrighteousness -- every one who is naming the name of Christ.'

¹⁹ out of us they went forth, but they were not of us, for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but -- that they might be manifested that they are not all of us.

²⁶ These things I did write to you concerning those leading you astray;

⁸ And bow before it shall all who are dwelling upon the land, whose names have not been written in the scroll of the life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

¹³ and it does great signs, that fire also it may make to come down from the heaven to the earth before men, ¹⁴ and it leads astray those dwelling on the land, because of the signs that were given it to do before the beast, saying to those dwelling upon the land to make an image to the beast that has the stroke of the sword and did live,

⁸ 'The beast that you did see: it was, and it is not; and it is about to come up out of the abyss, and to go away to destruction, and wonder shall those dwelling upon the earth, whose names have not been written upon the scroll of the life from the foundation of the world, beholding the beast that was, and is not, although it is.

³³ Take heed, watch and pray, for you have not known when the time is;

³⁴ 'And take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts may be weighed down with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and anxieties of life, and suddenly that day may come on you,

²⁹ 'And now I have said it to you before it come to pass, that when it may come to pass, you may believe;

¹ 'These things I have spoken to you, that you may not be stumbled, ² out of the synagogues they will put you; but an hour does come, that every one who has killed you, may think to offer service unto God; ³ and these things they will do to you, because they did not know the Father, nor me. ⁴ 'But these things I have spoken to you, that when the hour may come, you may remember them, that I said them to you, and these things to you from the beginning I did not say, because I was with you;

¹⁷ You, then, beloved, knowing before, take heed, lest, together with the error of the impious being led away, you may fall from your own stedfastness,

²⁹ 'And immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from the heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken; ³⁰ and then shall appear the sign of the Son of Man in the heaven; and then shall all the tribes of the earth smite the breast, and they shall see the Son of Man coming upon the clouds of the heaven, with power and much glory; ³¹ and he shall send his messengers with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his chosen from the four winds, from the ends of the heavens unto the ends thereof.

²⁵ 'And there shall be signs in sun, and moon, and stars, and on the land is distress of nations with perplexity, sea and billow roaring; ²⁶ men fainting at heart from fear, and expectation of the things coming on the world, for the powers of the heavens shall be shaken. ²⁷ 'And then they shall see the Son of Man, coming in a cloud, with power and much glory;

¹⁹ and I will give wonders in the heaven above, and signs upon the earth beneath -- blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke, ²⁰ the sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the coming of the day of the Lord -- the great and illustrious;

¹⁰ and it will come -- the day of the Lord -- as a thief in the night, in which the heavens with a rushing noise will pass away, and the elements with burning heat be dissolved, and earth and the works in it shall be burnt up.

¹² waiting for and hasting to the presence of the day of God, by which the heavens, being on fire, shall be dissolved, and the elements with burning heat shall melt;

¹² And I saw when he opened the sixth seal, and lo, a great earthquake came, and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood. ¹³ And the stars of the heaven fell to the earth -- as a fig-tree does cast her winter figs, by a great wind being shaken -- ¹⁴ and heaven departed as a scroll rolled up, and every mountain and island -- out of their places they were moved;

¹¹ And I saw a great white throne, and Him who is sitting upon it, from whose face the earth and the heaven did flee away, and place was not found for them;

¹³ And the stars of the heaven fell to the earth -- as a fig-tree does cast her winter figs, by a great wind being shaken --

¹⁷ And Jesus answering said to him, 'Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona, because flesh and blood did not reveal it to you, but my Father who is in the heavens.

²⁷ 'For, the Son of Man is about to come in the glory of his Father, with his messengers, and then he will reward each, according to his work.

³⁰ and then shall appear the sign of the Son of Man in the heaven; and then shall all the tribes of the earth smite the breast, and they shall see the Son of Man coming upon the clouds of the heaven, with power and much glory;

³¹ 'And whenever the Son of Man may come in his glory, and all the holy messengers with him, then he shall sit upon a throne of his glory;

³⁸ for whoever may be ashamed of me, and of my words, in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man also shall be ashamed of him, when he may come in the glory of his Father, with the holy messengers.'

⁶² and Jesus said, 'I am; and you shall see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of the power, and coming with the clouds, of the heaven.'

¹¹ who also said, 'Men, Galileans, why do you stand gazing into the heaven? this Jesus who was received up from you into the heaven, shall so come in what manner you saw him going on to the heaven.'

¹⁶ because the Lord himself, in a shout, in the voice of a chief-messenger, and in the trump of God, shall come down from heaven, and the dead in Christ shall rise first,

⁷ and to you who are troubled -- rest with us in the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven, with messengers of his power, ⁸ in flaming fire, giving vengeance to those not knowing God, and to those not obeying the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ; ⁹ who shall suffer justice -- destruction age-during -- from the face of the Lord, and from the glory of his strength, ¹⁰ when He may come to be glorified in his saints, and to be wondered at in all those believing -- because our testimony was believed among you -- in that day;

⁷ Lo, he does come with the clouds, and see him shall every eye, even those who did pierce him, and wail because of him shall all the tribes of the land. Yes! Amen!

⁴² 'A queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and lo, a greater than Solomon here!

⁴¹ the Son of Man shall send forth his messengers, and they shall gather up out of his kingdom all the stumbling-blocks, and those doing the unlawlessness,

⁴⁹ so shall it be in the full end of the age, the messengers shall come forth and separate the evil out of the midst of the righteous,

³¹ and he shall send his messengers with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his chosen from the four winds, from the ends of the heavens unto the ends thereof.

³¹ 'And whenever the Son of Man may come in his glory, and all the holy messengers with him, then he shall sit upon a throne of his glory; ³² and gathered together before him shall be all the nations, and he shall separate them from one another, as the shepherd does separate the sheep from the goats,

²⁰ and if the Lord did not shorten the days, no flesh had been saved; but because of the chosen, whom He did choose to Himself, He did shorten the days.

²² 'And it came to pass, that the poor man died, and that he was carried away by the messengers to the bosom of Abraham -- and the rich man also died, and was buried;

⁷ and shall not God execute the justice to His choice ones, who are crying unto Him day and night -- bearing long in regard to them?

¹⁶ and other sheep I have that are not of this fold, these also it behooves me to bring, and my voice they will hear, and there shall become one flock -- one shepherd.

⁵² and not for the nation only, but that also the children of God, who have been scattered abroad, he may gather together into one.

³³ Who shall lay a charge against the choice ones of God? God is He that is declaring righteous,

¹² Put on, therefore, as choice ones of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humble-mindedness, meekness, long-suffering,

¹⁴ for if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, so also God those asleep through Jesus he will bring with him, ¹⁵ for this to you we say in the word of the Lord, that we who are living -- who do remain over to the presence of the Lord -- may not precede those asleep, ¹⁶ because the Lord himself, in a shout, in the voice of a chief-messenger, and in the trump of God, shall come down from heaven, and the dead in Christ shall rise first, ¹⁷ then we who are living, who are remaining over, together with them shall be caught away in clouds to meet the Lord in air, and so always with the Lord we shall be;

¹ And we ask you, brethren, in regard to the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, and of our gathering together unto him,

¹⁰ because of this all things do I endure, because of the choice ones, that they also salvation may obtain that is in Christ Jesus, with glory age-during.

² according to a foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, to obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied!

¹ And after these things I saw four messengers, standing upon the four corners of the land, holding the four winds of the land, that the wind may not blow upon the land, nor upon the sea, nor upon any tree; ² and I saw another messenger going up from the rising of the sun, having a seal of the living God, and he did cry with a great voice to the four messengers, to whom it was given to injure the land and the sea, saying, ³ 'Do not injure the land, nor the sea, nor the trees, till we may seal the servants of our God upon their foreheads.'

⁵ of the tribe of Judah 12 thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Reuben 12 thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Gad 12 thousand were sealed; ⁶ of the tribe of Asher 12 thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Naphtali 12 thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Manasseh 12 thousand were sealed; ⁷ of the tribe of Simeon 12 thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Levi 12 thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Issachar 12 thousand were sealed; ⁸ of the tribe of Zebulun 12 thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Joseph 12 thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Benjamin 12 thousand were sealed. ⁹ After these things I saw, and lo, a great multitude, which to number no one was able, out of all nations, and tribes, and peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne, and before the Lamb, arrayed in white robes, and palms in their hands,

⁶ and come forth did the seven messengers having the seven plagues, out of the sanctuary, clothed in linen, pure and shining, and girded round the breasts with golden girdles: ⁷ and one of the four living creatures did give to the seven messengers seven golden vials, full of the wrath of God, who is living to the ages of the ages;

³² 'And from the fig-tree learn you the simile: When already its branch may have become tender, and the leaves it may put forth, you know that summer is near, ³³ so also you, when you may see all these, you know that it is near -- at the doors.

²⁹ And he spake a simile to them: 'See the fig-tree, and all the trees, ³⁰ when they may now cast forth, having seen, of yourselves you know that now is the summer near; ³¹ so also you, when you may see these things happening, you know that near is the reign of God;

²⁵ not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as a custom of certain is, but exhorting, and so much the more as you see the day coming near. ²⁶ For we -- willfully sinning after the receiving the full knowledge of the truth -- no more for sins does there remain a sacrifice, ²⁷ but a certain fearful looking for of judgment, and fiery zeal, about to devour the opposers; ²⁸ any one who did set at nought a law of Moses, apart from mercies, by two or three witnesses, does die, ²⁹ of how much sorer punishment shall he be counted worthy who the Son of God did trample on, and the blood of the covenant did count a common thing, in which he was sanctified, and to the Spirit of the grace did despite? ³⁰ for we have known Him who is saying, 'Vengeance is Mine, I will recompense, says the Lord;' and again, 'The Lord shall judge His people;' -- ³¹ fearful is the falling into the hands of a living God. ³² And call to your remembrance the former days, in which, having been enlightened, you did endure much conflict of sufferings, ³³ partly both with reproaches and tribulations being made spectacles, and partly having become partners of those so living, ³⁴ for also with my bonds you sympathized, and the robbery of your goods with joy you did receive, knowing that you have in yourselves a better substance in the heavens, and an enduring one. ³⁵ You may not cast away, then, your boldness, which has great recompense of reward, ³⁶ for of patience you have need, that the will of God having done, you may receive the promise, ³⁷ for yet a very little, He who is coming will come, and will not tarry;

⁹ murmur not against one another, brethren, that you may not be condemned; lo, the Judge before the door has stood.

¹⁷ because it is the time of the beginning of the judgment from the house of God, and if first from us, what the end of those disobedient to the good news of God? ¹⁸ And if the righteous man is scarcely saved, the ungodly and sinner -- where shall he appear?

²⁸ Verily I say to you, there are certain of those standing here who shall not taste of death till they may see the Son of Man coming in his reign.'

³⁶ verily I say to you, all these things shall come upon this generation.

³⁴ Verily I say to you, this generation may not pass away till all these may come to pass.

¹ And he said to them, 'Verily I say to you, That there are certain of those standing here, who may not taste of death till they see the reign of God having come in power.'

³² verily I say to you -- This generation may not pass away till all may have come to pass;

¹⁸ for, verily I say to you, till that the heaven and the earth may pass away, one iota\'7bsmallest Hebrew letter\'7d or one tittle\'7bpoint on a letter, serif\'7d may not pass away from the law, till that all may come to pass.

³⁵ The heaven and the earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

³³ the heaven and the earth shall pass away, but my words may not pass away.

¹³ if we are not stedfast\'7bfaithful\'7d, he remains stedfast\'7bfaithful\'7d; to deny himself he is not able.

² upon hope of life age-during, which God, who does not lie, did promise before times of ages,

¹⁰ and, 'You, at the beginning, Lord, the earth did found, and a work of your hands are the heavens; ¹¹ these shall perish, and You do remain, and all, as a garment, shall become old, ¹² and as a mantle You shall roll them together, and they shall be changed, and You are the same, and Your years shall not fail.'

¹⁰ and it will come -- the day of the Lord -- as a thief in the night, in which the heavens with a rushing noise will pass away, and the elements with burning heat be dissolved, and earth and the works in it shall be burnt up. ¹¹ All these, then, being dissolved, what kind of persons does it behoove you to be in holy behaviors and pious acts? ¹² waiting for and hasting to the presence of the day of God, by which the heavens, being on fire, shall be dissolved, and the elements with burning heat shall melt;

³⁶ 'And concerning that day and the hour no one has known -- not even the messengers of the heavens -- except my Father only; ³⁷ and as the days of Noah -- so shall be also the presence of the Son of Man; ³⁸ for as they were, in the days before the flood, eating, and drinking, marrying, and giving in marriage, till the day Noah entered into the ark, ³⁹ and they did not know till the flood came and took all away; so shall be also the presence of the Son of Man. ⁴⁰ Then two men shall be in the field, the one is received, and the one is left; ⁴¹ two women shall be grinding in the mill, one is received, and one is left. ⁴² 'Watch you therefore, because you have not known in what hour your Lord does come;

⁶ and in the middle of the night a cry was made, Lo, the bridegroom does come; go you forth to meet him.

¹³ 'Watch therefore, for you have not known the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man does come.

¹⁹ 'And after a long time comes the lord of those servants, and takes reckoning with them;

²⁶ 'And then they shall see the Son of Man coming in clouds with much power and glory, ²⁷ and then he shall send his messengers, and gather together his chosen from the four winds, from the end of the earth unto the end of heaven.

⁷ and he said unto them, 'It is not yours to know times or seasons that the Father did appoint in His own authority;

¹ And concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need of my writing to you, ² for yourselves have known thoroughly that the day of the Lord as a thief in the night does so come,

¹ A revelation of Jesus Christ, that God gave to him, to show to his servants what things it behooves to come to pass quickly; and he did signify it, having sent through his messenger to his servant John,

³ 'Remember, then, how you have received, and heard, and be keeping, and reform: if, then, you may not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you may not know what hour I will come upon you.

⁴² 'Watch you therefore, because you have not known in what hour your Lord does come; ⁴³ and this know, that if the master of the house had known in what watch the thief does come, he had watched, and not permitted his house to be broken through; ⁴⁴ because of this also you, become you ready, because in what hour you do not think, the Son of Man does come.

⁴⁰ And he comes unto the disciples, and finds them sleeping, and he said to Peter, 'So! You were not able one hour to watch with me! ⁴¹ Watch, and pray, that you may not enter into temptation: the spirit indeed is forward, but the flesh weak.'

²³ and you, take heed; lo, I have foretold you all things.

³⁵ watch you, therefore, for you have not known when the lord of the house does come, at even, or at midnight, or at cock-crowing, or at the morning; ³⁶ lest, having come suddenly, he may find you sleeping; ³⁷ and what I say to you, I say to all, Watch.

³⁷ And he comes, and finds them sleeping, and said to Peter, 'Simon, you do sleep! you were not able to watch one hour! ³⁸ Watch you and pray, that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is forward, but the flesh weak.'

⁴⁰ and you, then, become you ready, because at the hour you think not, the Son of Man does come.'

¹¹ And this, knowing the time, that for us, the hour already is to be aroused out of sleep, for now nearer is our salvation than when we did believe; ¹² the night did advance, and the day came nigh; let us lay aside, therefore, the works of the darkness, and let us put on the armour of the light;

¹⁴ but put you on the Lord Jesus Christ, and for the flesh take no forethought -- for desires.

¹³ Watch you, stand in the faith; be men, be strong;

¹⁸ through all prayer and supplication\'7bpetitions, requests\'7d praying at all times in the Spirit, and in regard to this same, watching in all perseverance and supplication for all the saints --

⁵ all you are sons of light, and sons of day; we are not of night, nor of darkness, ⁶ so, then, we may not sleep as also the others, but watch and be sober, ⁷ for those sleeping, by night do sleep, and those making themselves drunk, by night are drunken, ⁸ and we, being of the day -- let us be sober, putting on a breastplate of faith and love, and an helmet -- a hope of salvation,

¹⁵ looking diligently over lest any one be failing of the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness springing up may give trouble, and through this many may be defiled;

⁷ And of all things the end has come near; be sober-minded, then, and watch unto the prayers,

⁸ Be sober, vigilant, because your opponent the devil, as a roaring lion, does walk about, seeking whom he may swallow up,

² become watching, and strengthen the rest of the things that are about to die, for I have not found your works fulfilled before God.

¹⁵ 'lo, I do come as a thief; happy is he who is watching, and keeping his garments, that he may not walk naked, and they may see his unseemliness,' --

¹⁹ and I will give to you the keys of the reign of the heavens, and whatever you may bind upon the earth shall be having been bound in the heavens, and whatever you may loose upon the earth shall be having been loosed in the heavens.'

⁴⁵ 'Who, then, is the servant, faithful and wise, whom his lord did set over his household, to give them the nourishment in season? ⁴⁶ Blessed that servant, whom his lord, having come, shall find doing so; ⁴⁷ verily I say to you, that over all his substance he will set him.

¹⁴ 'For -- as a man going abroad did call his own servants, and did deliver to them his substance, ¹⁵ and to one he gave five talents, and to another two, and to another one, to each according to his several ability, went abroad immediately. ¹⁶ 'And he who did receive the five talents, having gone, wrought with them, and made other five talents; ¹⁷ in like manner also he who received the two, he gained, also he, other two; ¹⁸ and he who did receive the one, having gone away, digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money. ¹⁹ 'And after a long time comes the lord of those servants, and takes reckoning with them; ²⁰ and he who did receive the five talents having come, brought other five talents, saying, 'Sir, five talents you did deliver to me; lo, other five talents did I gain besides them. ²¹ 'And his lord said to him, Well done, servant, good and faithful, over a few things you wast faithful, over many things I will set you; enter into the joy of your lord. ²² 'And he who also did receive the two talents having come, said, Sir, two talents you did deliver to me; lo, other two talents I did gain besides them. ²³ 'His lord said to him, Well done, servant, good and faithful, over a few things you wast faithful, over many things I will set you; enter into the joy of your lord. ²⁴ 'And he also who has received the one talent having come, said, Sir, I knew you, that you are a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering from where you did not scatter; ²⁵ and having been afraid, having gone away, I hid your talent in the earth; lo, you have your own! ²⁶ 'And his lord answering said to him, Evil servant, and slothful, you hadst known that I reap where I did not sow, and I gather from where I did not scatter! ²⁷ It behoved you then to put my money to the money-lenders, and having come I had received mine own with increase. ²⁸ 'Take therefore from him the talent, and give to him having the ten talents, ²⁹ for to every one having shall be given, and he shall have overabundance, and from him who is not having, even that which he has shall be taken from him; ³⁰ and the unprofitable servant cast you forth to the outer darkness; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth.

³⁶ and you like to men waiting for their lord, when he shall return out of the wedding feasts, that he having come and knocked, immediately they may open to him. ³⁷ 'Happy those servants, whom the lord, having come, shall find watching; verily I say to you, that he will gird himself, and will cause them to recline (at meat), and having come near, will minister to them; ³⁸ and if he may come in the second watch, and in the third watch he may come, and may find it so, happy are those servants. ³⁹ 'And this know, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief does come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken through; ⁴⁰ and you, then, become you ready, because at the hour you think not, the Son of Man does come.'

¹² He said therefore, 'A certain man of birth went on to a far country, to take to himself a kingdom, and to return, ¹³ and having called ten servants of his own, he gave to them ten pounds, and said unto them, Do business -- till I come; ¹⁴ and his citizens were hating him, and did send an embassy after him, saying, We do not wish this one to reign over us. ¹⁵ 'And it came to pass, on his coming back, having taken the kingdom, that he commanded these servants to be called to him, to whom he gave the money, that he might know what any one had done in business. ¹⁶ 'And the first came near, saying, Sir, your pound did gain ten pounds; ¹⁷ and he said to him, Well done, good servant, because in a very little you did become faithful, be having authority over ten cities.

³ to this one the doorkeeper does open, and the sheep hear his voice, and his own sheep he does call by name, and does lead them forth;

²⁹ for I have known this, that there shall enter in, after my departing, grievous wolves unto you, not sparing the flock, ³⁰ and of your own selves there shall arise men, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them. ³¹ 'Therefore, watch, remembering that three years, night and day, I did not cease with tears warning each one;

⁴ for as in one body we have many members, and all the members have not the same office, ⁵ so we, the many, one body are in Christ, and members each one of one another. ⁶ And having gifts, different according to the grace that was given to us; whether prophecy -- 'According to the proportion of faith!' ⁷ or ministration -- 'In the ministration!' or he who is teaching -- 'In the teaching!' ⁸ or he who is exhorting -- 'In the exhortation!' he who is sharing -- 'In simplicity!' he who is leading -- 'In diligence?' he who is doing kindness -- 'In cheerfulness.'

⁶ for because of this also pay you tribute; for servants of God they are, on this very thing attending continually;

⁵ Who, then, is Paul, and who Apollos, but ministrants through whom you did believe, and to each as the Lord gave? ⁶ I planted, Apollos watered, but God was giving growth; ⁷ so that neither is he who is planting anything, nor he who is watering, but He who is giving growth -- God; ⁸ and he who is planting and he who is watering are one, and each his own reward shall receive, according to his own labour, ⁹ for of God we are fellow-workmen; God's tillage, God's building you are. ¹⁰ According to the grace of God that was given to me, as a wise master-builder, a foundation I have laid, and another does build on it,

⁴ And there are diversities of gifts, and the same Spirit; ⁵ and there are diversities of ministrations, and the same Lord; ⁶ and there are diversities of workings, and it is the same God -- who is working the all in all. ⁷ And to each has been given the manifestation of the Spirit for profit; ⁸ for to one through the Spirit has been given a word of wisdom, and to another a word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit; ⁹ and to another faith in the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healings in the same Spirit; ¹⁰ and to another in-workings of mighty deeds; and to another prophecy; and to another discernings of spirits; and to another divers kinds of tongues; and to another interpretation of tongues: ¹¹ and all these does work the one and the same Spirit, dividing to each severally as he intends. ¹² For, even as the body is one, and has many members, and all the members of the one body, being many, are one body, so also is the Christ, ¹³ for also in one Spirit we all to one body were baptized, whether Jews or Greeks, whether servants or freemen, and all into one Spirit were made to drink, ¹⁴ for also the body is not one member, but many; ¹⁵ if the foot may say, 'Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body;' it is not, because of this, not of the body; ¹⁶ and if the ear may say, 'Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body;' it is not, because of this, not of the body? ¹⁷ If the whole body were an eye, where the hearing? if the whole hearing, where the smelling? ¹⁸ and now, God did set the members each one of them in the body, according as He willed, ¹⁹ and if all were one member, where the body? ²⁰ and now, indeed, are many members, and one body; ²¹ and an eye is not able to say to the hand, 'I have no need of you;' nor again the head to the feet, 'I have no need of you.' ²² But much more the members of the body which seem to be more infirm are necessary, ²³ and those that we think to be less honourable of the body, around these we put more abundant honour, and our unseemly things have seemliness more abundant, ²⁴ and our seemly things have no need; but God did temper the body together, to the lacking part having given more abundant honour, ²⁵ that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same anxiety for one another, ²⁶ and whether one member does suffer, suffer with it do all the members, or one member is glorified, rejoice with it do all the members; ²⁷ and you are the body of Christ, and members in particular. ²⁸ And some, indeed, did God set in the assembly, first apostles, secondly prophets, thirdly teachers, afterwards powers, afterwards gifts of healings, helpings, governings, divers kinds of tongues; ²⁹ are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all powers? ³⁰ have all gifts of healings? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? ³¹ and desire earnestly the better gifts; and yet a far excelling way do I show to you:

⁵⁸ so that, my brethren beloved, become you stedfast, unmovable, abounding in the work of the Lord at all times, knowing that your labour is not vain in the Lord.

²⁴ having known that from the Lord you shall receive the recompense of the inheritance -- for the Lord Christ you serve;

¹ The masters! that which is righteous and equal to the servants give you, having known that you also have a Master in the heavens.

⁷ 'And to the messenger of the assembly in Philadelphia write: These things says he who is holy, he who is true, he who is having the key of David, he who is opening and no one does shut, and he shuts and no one does open!

⁴² 'Watch you therefore, because you have not known in what hour your Lord does come;

⁴⁴ because of this also you, become you ready, because in what hour you do not think, the Son of Man does come.

⁴⁸ and he saw them harassed in the rowing, for the wind was against them, and about the fourth watch of the night he does come to them walking on the sea, and wished to pass by them.

³⁰ And Jesus said to him, 'Verily I say to you, that to-day, this night, before a cock shall crow twice, three times you shall deny me.'

⁵ 'And the bridegroom tarrying, they all nodded and were sleeping,

³⁷ And he comes, and finds them sleeping, and said to Peter, 'Simon, you do sleep! you were not able to watch one hour!

⁴⁰ and having returned, he found them again sleeping, for their eyes were heavy, and they had not known what they might answer him.

⁴⁵ And having risen up from the prayer, having come unto the disciples, he found them sleeping from the sorrow,

¹¹ And this, knowing the time, that for us, the hour already is to be aroused out of sleep, for now nearer is our salvation than when we did believe; ¹² the night did advance, and the day came nigh; let us lay aside, therefore, the works of the darkness, and let us put on the armour of the light; ¹³ as in day-time, let us walk becomingly; not in revellings and drunkennesses, not in chamberings and lasciviousnesses, not in strife and emulation; ¹⁴ but put you on the Lord Jesus Christ, and for the flesh take no forethought -- for desires.

¹⁴ wherefore he says, 'Arouse yourself, you who are sleeping, and arise out of the dead, and the Christ shall shine upon you.'

⁶ so, then, we may not sleep as also the others, but watch and be sober, ⁷ for those sleeping, by night do sleep, and those making themselves drunk, by night are drunken,

³⁵ watch you, therefore, for you have not known when the lord of the house does come, at even, or at midnight, or at cock-crowing, or at the morning;

⁴¹ And Peter said to him, 'Sir, unto us this simile do you speak, or also unto all?' ⁴² And the Lord said, 'Who, then, is the faithful and prudent steward whom the lord shall set over his household, to give in season the wheat measure? ⁴³ Happy that servant, whom his lord, having come, shall find doing so; ⁴⁴ truly I say to you, that over all his goods he will set him. ⁴⁵ 'And if that servant may say in his heart, My lord does delay to come, and may begin to beat the men-servants and the maid-servants, to eat also, and to drink, and to be drunken; ⁴⁶ the lord of that servant will come in a day in which he does not look for him, and in an hour that he does not know, and will cut him off, and his portion with the unfaithful he will appoint.
