¹ Remind them to be subject to principalities and authorities, to obey rule, unto every good work to be ready, ² of no one to speak evil, not to be quarrelsome -- gentle, showing all meekness to all men, ³ for we were once -- also we -- thoughtless, disobedient, led astray, serving desires and pleasures manifold\'7bmany\'7d, in malice and envy living, odious -- hating one another; ⁴ and when the kindness and the love to men of God our Saviour did appear ⁵ (not by works that are in righteousness that we did but according to His kindness,) He did save us, through a bathing of regeneration, and a renewing of the Holy Spirit, ⁶ which He poured upon us richly, through Jesus Christ our Saviour, ⁷ that having been declared righteous by His grace, heirs we may become according to the hope of life age-during. ⁸ Stedfast is the word; and concerning these things I counsel you to affirm fully, that they may be thoughtful, to be leading in good works -- who have believed God; these are the good and profitable things to men, ⁹ and foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about law, stand away from -- for they are unprofitable and vain. ¹⁰ A sectarian man, after a first and second admonition be rejecting, ¹¹ having known that he has been subverted who is such, and does sin, being self-condemned. ¹² When I shall send Artemas unto you, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis, for there to winter I have determined. ¹³ Zenas the lawyer and Apollos bring diligently on their way, that nothing to them may be lacking, ¹⁴ and let them learn -- ours also -- to be leading in good works to the necessary uses, that they may not be unfruitful. ¹⁵ Salute\'7bgreet\'7d you do all those with me; salute\'7bgreet\'7d those loving us in faith; the grace is with you all!

²¹ They say to him, 'Caesar's;' then said he to them, 'Render therefore the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God;'

² saying, 'On the seat of Moses sat down the scribes and the Pharisees; ³ all, then, as much as they may say to you to observe, observe and do, but according to their works do not, for they say, and do not;

¹ Let every soul to the higher authorities be subject, for there is no authority except from God, and the authorities existing are appointed by God, ² so that he who is setting himself against the authority, against God's ordinance has resisted; and those resisting, to themselves shall receive judgment. ³ For those ruling are not a terror to the good works, but to the evil; and do you wish not to be afraid of the authority? that which is good be doing, and you shall have praise from it, ⁴ for of God it is a ministrant to you for good; and if that which is evil you may do, be fearing, for not in vain does it bear the sword; for of God it is a ministrant, an avenger for wrath to him who is doing that which is evil. ⁵ Therefore it is necessary to be subject, not only because of the wrath, but also because of the conscience, ⁶ for because of this also pay you tribute; for servants of God they are, on this very thing attending continually; ⁷ render, therefore, to all their dues; to whom tribute, the tribute; to whom custom, the custom; to whom fear, the fear; to whom honour, the honour.

⁵⁸ so that, my brethren beloved, become you stedfast, unmovable, abounding in the work of the Lord at all times, knowing that your labour is not vain in the Lord.

⁹ and in the doing good we may not be faint-hearted, for at the proper time we shall reap -- not desponding; ¹⁰ therefore, then, as we have opportunity, may we work the good to all, and especially unto those of the household of the faith.

¹⁰ for of Him we are workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to good works, which God did before prepare, that in them we may walk.

¹¹ being filled with the fruit of righteousness, that is through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

¹⁰ to your walking worthily of the Lord to all pleasing, in every good work being fruitful, and increasing to the knowledge of God,

² for kings, and all who are in authority, that a quiet and peaceable life we may lead in all piety and gravity,

⁶ These things placing before the brethren, you shall be a good minister of Jesus Christ, being nourished by the words of the faith, and of the good teaching, which you did follow after,

¹⁰ in good works being testified to: if she brought up children, if she entertained strangers, if saints' feet she washed, if those in tribulation she relieved, if every good work she followed after;

⁶ For which cause I remind you to stir up\'7bkindle\'7d the gift of God that is in you through the putting on of my hands,

²¹ if, then, any one may cleanse himself from these, he shall be a vessel to honour, sanctified and profitable to the master -- to every good work having been prepared,

¹⁴ who did give himself for us, that he might ransom us from all lawlessness, and might purify to himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works;

⁸ Stedfast is the word; and concerning these things I counsel you to affirm fully, that they may be thoughtful, to be leading in good works -- who have believed God; these are the good and profitable things to men,

¹⁴ and let them learn -- ours also -- to be leading in good works to the necessary uses, that they may not be unfruitful.

²¹ make you perfect in every good work to do His will, doing in you that which is well-pleasing before Him, through Jesus Christ, to whom is the glory -- to the ages of the ages! Amen.

¹³ Be subject, then, to every human creation, because of the Lord, whether to a king, as the highest, ¹⁴ whether to governors, as to those sent through him, for punishment, indeed, of evil-doers, and a praise of those doing good; ¹⁵ because, so is the will of God, doing good, to put to silence the ignorance of the foolish men; ¹⁶ as free, and not having the freedom as the cloak of the evil, but as servants of God; ¹⁷ to all give you honour; the brotherhood love you; God fear you; the king honour you.

¹² Therefore, I will not be careless always to remind you concerning these things, though, having known them, and having been established in the present truth,

¹ This, now, beloved, a second letter to you I write, in both which I stir up your pure mind in reminding you, ² to be mindful of the sayings said before by the holy prophets, and of the command of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour,

⁵ and to remind you I intend, you knowing once this, that the Lord, a people out of the land of Egypt having saved, again those who did not believe did destroy;

²⁹ take up my yoke upon you, and learn from me, because I am meek and humble in heart, and you shall find rest to your souls,

⁵ and Paul said, 'I did not know, brethren, that he is chief priest: for it has been written, Of the ruler of your people you shall not speak evil;'

¹⁰ nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, the reign of God shall inherit.

¹⁹ for being free from all men, to all men I made myself servant, that the more I might gain;

¹ And I, Paul, myself, do call upon you -- through the meekness and gentleness of the Christ -- who in presence, indeed am humble among you, and being absent, have courage toward you,

²⁰ for I fear lest, having come, not such as I wish I may find you, and I -- I may be found by you such as you do not wish, lest there be strifes, envyings, wraths, revelries, evil-speakings, whisperings, puffings up, insurrections,

²² And the fruit of the Spirit is: Love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith,

¹ Brethren, if a man also may be overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of meekness, considering thyself -- lest you also may be tempted;

¹⁰ therefore, then, as we have opportunity, may we work the good to all, and especially unto those of the household of the faith.

² with all lowliness\'7bhumility\'7d and meekness\'7bmildness, gentleness\'7d, with long-suffering\'7bpatience\'7d, forbearing\'7bbearing with, enduring\'7d one another in love,

³¹ Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour\'7boutcry\'7d, and evil-speaking, be put away from you, along with all malice,

⁵ let your forbearance be known to all men; the Lord is near;

¹² Put on, therefore, as choice ones of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humble-mindedness, meekness, long-suffering, ¹³ forbearing one another, and forgiving each other, if any one with any one may have a quarrel, as also the Christ did forgive you -- so also you;

⁷ But we became gentle in your midst, as a nurse may cherish her own children,

¹⁴ and we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, comfort the feeble-minded, support the infirm, be patient unto all; ¹⁵ see no one evil for evil may render to any one, but always that which is good pursue you, both to one another and to all;

³ not given to wine, not a striker, not given to filthy lucre, but gentle, not contentious, not a lover of money,

¹¹ Women -- in like manner grave, not false accusers, vigilant, faithful in all things.

²⁴ and a servant of the Lord it benefits not to strive, but to be gentle unto all, apt to teach, patient under evil, ²⁵ in meekness instructing those opposing -- if perhaps God may give to them repentance to an acknowledging of the truth,

¹⁹ So then, my brethren beloved, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger, ²⁰ for the wrath of a man the righteousness of God does not work;

¹⁷ and the wisdom from above, first, indeed, is pure, then peaceable, gentle, easily entreated, full of kindness and good fruits, uncontentious, and unhypocritical: --

¹¹ Speak not one against another, brethren; he who is speaking against a brother, and is judging his brother, does speak against law, and does judge law, and if law you do judge, you are not a doer of law but a judge;

¹ Having put aside, then, all evil, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envyings, and all evil speakings,

¹⁷ to all give you honour; the brotherhood love you; God fear you; the king honour you. ¹⁸ The domestics! be subjecting yourselves in all fear to the masters, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the cross;

⁸ And finally, being all of one mind, having fellow-feeling, loving as brethren, compassionate, courteous,

¹⁰ for 'he who is willing to love life, and to see good days, let him guard his tongue from evil, and his lips -- not to speak guile;

⁴ in which they think it strange -- your not running with them to the same excess of dissoluteness, speaking evil,

¹⁰ and chiefly those going behind the flesh in desire of uncleanness, and lordship despising; presumptuous, self-complacent, dignities they are not afraid to speak evil of,

⁸ In like manner, nevertheless, those dreaming also the flesh indeed do defile, and lordship they put away, and dignities they speak evil of,

¹⁰ and these, as many things indeed as they have not known, they speak evil of; and as many things as naturally (as the irrational beasts) they understand, in these they are corrupted;

²⁹ And he answering said, 'I will not,' but at last, having repented, he went.

⁸ And he said, 'See -- you may not be led astray, for many shall come in my name, saying -- I am he, and the time has come near; go not on then after them;

³⁴ Jesus answered them, 'Verily, verily, I say to you -- Every one who is committing sin, is a servant of the sin,

¹ And Saul, yet breathing of threatening and slaughter to the disciples of the Lord, having gone to the chief priest, ² did ask from him letters to Damascus, unto the synagogues, that if he may find any being of the way, both men and women, he may bring them bound to Jerusalem. ³ And in the going, he came near to Damascus, and suddenly there shone round about him a light from the heaven, ⁴ and having fallen upon the earth, he heard a voice saying to him, 'Saul, Saul, why me do you persecute?' ⁵ And he said, 'Who are you, Lord?' and the Lord said, 'I am Jesus whom you do persecute; hard for you at the pricks to kick;' ⁶ trembling also, and astonished, he said, 'Lord, what do you wish me to do?' and the Lord said unto him, 'Arise, and enter into the city, and it shall be told you what it behooves you to do.'

¹⁹ 'Whereupon, king Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, ²⁰ but to those in Damascus first, and to those in Jerusalem, to all the region also of Judea, and to the nations, I was preaching to reform, and to turn back unto God, doing works worthy of reformation;

²⁹ having been filled with all unrighteousness, whoredom, wickedness, covetousness, malice; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil dispositions; whisperers, ³⁰ evil-speakers, God-haters, insulting, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, ³¹ unintelligent, faithless, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful;

⁹ What, then? are we better? not at all! for we did before charge both Jews and Greeks with being all under sin, ¹⁰ according as it has been written -- 'There is none righteous, not even one; ¹¹ There is none who is understanding, there is none who is seeking after God. ¹² All did go out of the way, together they became unprofitable, there is none doing good, there is not even one. ¹³ A sepulchre opened is their throat; with their tongues they used deceit; poison of asps is under their lips. ¹⁴ Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness. ¹⁵ Swift are their feet to shed blood. ¹⁶ Ruin and misery are in their ways. ¹⁷ And a way of peace they did not know. ¹⁸ There is no fear of God before their eyes.' ¹⁹ And we have known that as many things as the law says, to those in the law it does speak, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may come under judgment to God; ²⁰ therefore by works of law shall no flesh be declared righteous before Him, for through law is a knowledge of sin.

¹⁷ and thanks to God, that you were servants of the sin, and -- were obedient from the heart to the form of teaching to which you were delivered up;

²² And now, having been freed from the sin, and having become servants to God, you have your fruit -- to sanctification, and the end life age-during;

⁹ have you not known that the unrighteous the reign of God shall not inherit? be not led astray; neither whoremongers, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor sodomites, ¹⁰ nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, the reign of God shall inherit. ¹¹ And certain of you were these! but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were declared righteous, in the name of the Lord Jesus, and in the Spirit of our God.

³ for if any one does think himself to be something -- being nothing -- himself he does deceive;

¹ Also you -- being dead in the trespasses and the sins, ² in which once you did walk according to the age of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience, ³ among whom also we all did walk once in the desires of our flesh, doing the wishes\'7bdesires\'7d of the flesh and of the thoughts, and were by nature children of wrath -- as also the others,

²¹ And you -- once being alienated, and enemies in the mind, in the evil works, yet now did he reconcile,

⁷ in which also you -- you did walk once, when you lived in them;

² for men\'7bpeople\'7d shall be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, evil-speakers\'7bprofane, those speaking insults\'7d, to parents disobedient, unthankful, unkind\'7bunsacred (Gk. anosios)\'7d, ³ without natural affection\'7baffectionless\'7d, implacable\'7bunappeasable, irreconcilable, relentless\'7d, false accusers\'7bslanderers\'7d, incontinent\'7bwithout restraint, undisciplined, lacking self-control\'7d, fierce, not lovers of those who are good,

²⁶ If any one does think to be religious among you, not bridling his tongue, but deceiving his heart, of this one vain is the religion;

¹⁴ as obedient children, not fashioning yourselves to the former desires in your ignorance,

¹ Christ, then, having suffered for us in the flesh, you also with the same mind arm yourselves, because he who did suffer in the flesh has done with sin, ² no more in the desires of men, but in the will of God, to live the rest of the time in the flesh; ³ for sufficient to us is the past time of life the will of the nations to have wrought, having walked in lasciviousnesses, desires, excesses of wines, revellings, drinking-bouts, and unlawful idolatries,

⁹ and the great dragon was cast forth -- the old serpent, who is called 'Devil,' and 'the Adversary,' who is leading astray the whole world -- he was cast forth to the earth, and his messengers were cast forth with him.

¹⁴ and it leads astray those dwelling on the land, because of the signs that were given it to do before the beast, saying to those dwelling upon the land to make an image to the beast that has the stroke of the sword and did live,

² and he did cry in might -- a great voice, saying, 'Fall, fall did Babylon the great, and she became a habitation of demons, and a hold of every unclean spirit, and a hold of every unclean and hateful bird,

⁴ or the riches of His goodness, and forbearance, and long-suffering, do you despise? -- not knowing that the goodness of God does lead you to reformation!

²⁰ And law came in, that the offence might abound, and where the sin did abound, the grace did overabound, ²¹ that even as the sin did reign in the death, so also the grace may reign, through righteousness, to life age-during, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

⁴ and God, being rich in kindness, because of His great love with which He loved us, ⁵ even being dead in the trespasses, made us to live together with the Christ, (by grace you are having been saved,) ⁶ and raised us up together, and did seat us together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, ⁷ that He might show, in the ages that are coming, the exceeding\'7bsuperb\'7d riches of His grace in kindness\'7bgoodness\'7d toward us in Christ Jesus, ⁸ for by grace you are having been saved, through faith, and this not of you -- of God the gift, ⁹ not of works, that no one may boast; ¹⁰ for of Him we are workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to good works, which God did before prepare, that in them we may walk.

¹ Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to a command of God our Saviour, and of the Lord Jesus Christ our hope,

³ for this is right and acceptable before God our Saviour,

¹⁰ for this we both labour and are reproached, because we hope on the living God, who is Saviour of all men -- especially of those believing.

¹⁰ and was made manifest now through the manifestation of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who indeed did abolish death, and did enlighten life and immortality through the good news,

³ (and He manifested in proper times His word,) in preaching, which I was entrusted with, according to a charge of God our Saviour,

¹⁰ not purloining\'7bembezzling\'7d, but showing all good stedfastness, that the teaching of God our Saviour they may adorn in all things. ¹¹ For the saving grace of God was manifested to all men,

²⁶ since it had behoved him many times to suffer from the foundation of the world, but now once, at the full end of the ages, for putting away of sin through his sacrifice, he has been manifested;

⁵⁰ And His kindness is to generations of generations, To those fearing Him,

⁵⁴ He received again Israel His servant, To remember kindness,

⁷² To do kindness with our fathers, And to be mindful of His holy covenant,

⁷⁸ Through the tender mercies of our God, In which the rising from on high did look upon us,

²⁷ And he answering said, 'You shall love the Lord your God out of all your heart, and out of all your soul, and out of all your strength, and out of all your understanding, and your neighbour as yourself.' ²⁸ And he said to him, 'Rightly you did answer; this do, and you shall live.' ²⁹ And he, willing to declare himself righteous, said unto Jesus, 'And who is my neighbour?'

³ Jesus answered and said to him, 'Verily, verily, I say to you, If any one may not be born from above, he is not able to see the reign of God;' ⁴ Nicodemus said unto him, 'How is a man able to be born, being old? is he able into the womb of his mother a second time to enter, and to be born?' ⁵ Jesus answered, 'Verily, verily, I say to you, If any one may not be born of water, and the Spirit, he is not able to enter into the reign of God;

²⁰ therefore by works of law shall no flesh be declared righteous before Him, for through law is a knowledge of sin.

²⁸ therefore do we reckon a man to be declared righteous by faith, apart from works of law.

⁵ and to him who is not working, and is believing upon Him who is declaring righteous the impious, his faith is reckoned -- to righteousness:

¹¹ (for they being not yet born, neither having done anything good or evil, that the purpose of God, according to choice, might remain; not of works, but of Him who is calling,) it was said to her --

¹⁶ so, then -- not of him who is willing, nor of him who is running, but of God who is doing kindness:

³⁰ What, then, shall we say? that nations who are not pursuing righteousness did attain to righteousness, and righteousness that is of faith,

⁶ and if by grace, no more of works, otherwise the grace becomes no more grace; and if of works, it is no more grace, otherwise the work is no more work.

² and be not conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, for your proving what is the will of God -- the good, and acceptable, and perfect.

¹¹ And certain of you were these! but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were declared righteous, in the name of the Lord Jesus, and in the Spirit of our God.

¹⁶ having known also that a man is not declared righteous by works of law, if not through the faith of Jesus Christ, also we in Christ Jesus did believe, that we might be declared righteous by the faith of Christ, and not by works of law, wherefore declared righteous by works of law shall be no flesh.'

¹⁶ and to Abraham were the promises spoken, and to his seed; He does not say, 'And to seeds,' as of many, but as of one, 'And to thy seed,' which is Christ; ¹⁷ and this I say, A covenant confirmed before by God to Christ, the law, that came four hundred and thirty years after, does not set aside, to make void the promise, ¹⁸ for if by law be the inheritance, it is no more by promise, but to Abraham through promise did God grant it. ¹⁹ Why, then, the law? on account of the transgressions it was added, till the seed might come to which the promise has been made, having been set in order through messengers in the hand of a mediator -- ²⁰ and the mediator is not of one, and God is one -- ²¹ the law, then, is against the promises of God? -- let it not be! for if a law was given that was able to make alive, truly by law there would have been the righteousness,

⁶ to the praise of the glory of His grace, in which He made us accepted in the beloved\'7bSome Western MSS read "his beloved (dear) Son"\'7d, ⁷ in whom we have the redemption\'7bliberation\'7d through his blood, the remission\'7bpardoning\'7d of the trespasses, according to the riches of His grace,

⁴ and God, being rich in kindness, because of His great love with which He loved us,

⁸ for by grace you are having been saved, through faith, and this not of you -- of God the gift, ⁹ not of works, that no one may boast;

²³ and to be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

²⁶ that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it with the bathing of the water in the saying,

¹⁰ and having put on the new, which is renewed in regard to knowledge, after the image of Him who did create him;

⁹ who did save us, and did call with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, that was given to us in Christ Jesus, before the times of the ages,

⁴ and when the kindness and the love to men of God our Saviour did appear

¹⁶ we may come near, then, with freedom, to the throne of the grace, that we may receive kindness, and find grace -- for seasonable help.

⁶ and having fallen away, again to renew them to reformation, having crucified again to themselves the Son of God, and exposed to public shame.

³ Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who, according to the abundance of His kindness did beget us again to a living hope, through the rising again of Jesus Christ out of the dead,

¹⁰ who were once not a people, and are now the people of God; who had not found kindness, and now have found kindness.

²¹ also to which an antitype does now save us -- baptism, (not a putting away of the filth of flesh, but the question of a good conscience in regard to God,) through the rising again of Jesus Christ,

¹⁶ and out of his fulness did we all receive, and grace over-against grace;

¹⁰ Jesus answered and said to her, 'If you hadst known the gift of God, and who it is who is saying to you, Give me to drink, you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.'

³⁷ And in the last, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, 'If any one does thirst, let him come unto me and drink;

¹⁶ and I will ask the Father, and another Comforter He will give to you, that he may remain with you -- to the age; ¹⁷ the Spirit of truth, whom the world is not able to receive, because it does not behold him, nor know him, and you know him, because he does remain with you, and shall be in you.

⁷ 'But I tell you the truth; it is better for you that I go away, for if I may not go away, the Comforter will not come unto you, and if I go on, I will send Him unto you;

³³ at the right hand then of God having been exalted -- also the promise of the Holy Spirit having received from the Father -- he was shedding forth this, which now you see and hear;

⁴⁵ and those of the circumcision believing were astonished -- as many as came with Peter -- because also upon the nations the gift of the Holy Spirit has been poured out,

⁵ and the hope does not make ashamed, because the love of God has been poured forth in our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.

² for the law of the Spirit of the life in Christ Jesus did set me free from the law of the sin and of the death;

⁸ to me -- the less than the least of all the saints -- was given this grace, among the nations to proclaim good news -- the untraceable riches of the Christ,

⁴ to Titus -- true child according to a common faith: Grace, kindness, peace, from God the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour!

²⁴ being declared righteous freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

⁴ and to him who is working, the reward is not reckoned of grace, but of debt;

¹⁶ Because of this it is of faith, that it may be according to grace, for the promise being sure to all the seed, not to that which is of the law only, but also to that which is of the faith of Abraham,

¹ Having been declared righteous, then, by faith, we have peace toward God through our Lord Jesus Christ, ² through whom also we have the access by the faith into this grace in which we have stood, and we boast on the hope of the glory of God.

¹⁵ But, not as the offence so also is the free gift; for if by the offence of the one the many did die, much more did the grace of God, and the free gift in grace of the one man Jesus Christ, abound to the many; ¹⁶ and not as through one who did sin is the free gift, for the judgment indeed is of one to condemnation, but the gift is of many offences to a declaration of 'Righteous,' ¹⁷ for if by the offence of the one the death did reign through the one, much more those, who the abundance of the grace and of the free gift of the righteousness are receiving, in life shall reign through the one -- Jesus Christ. ¹⁸ So, then, as through one offence to all men it is to condemnation, so also through one declaration of 'Righteous' it is to all men to justification of life; ¹⁹ for as through the disobedience of the one man, the many were constituted sinners: so also through the obedience of the one, shall the many be constituted righteous.

¹⁷ and if children, also heirs, heirs, indeed, of God, and heirs together of Christ -- if, indeed, we suffer together, that we may also be glorified together.

²³ And not only so, but also we ourselves, having the first-fruit of the Spirit, we also ourselves in ourselves do groan, adoption expecting -- the redemption of our body; ²⁴ for in hope we were saved, and hope beheld is not hope; for what any one does behold, why also does he hope for it?

²⁹ and if you are of Christ then of Abraham you are seed, and according to promise -- heirs.

⁷ so that you are no more a servant, but a son, and if a son, also an heir of God through Christ.

² upon hope of life age-during, which God, who does not lie, did promise before times of ages,

¹¹ For the saving grace of God was manifested to all men,

¹³ waiting for the blessed hope and manifestation of the glory of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ,

¹⁷ in which God, more abundantly willing to show to the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, did interpose by an oath,

⁷ By faith Noah, having been divinely warned concerning the things not yet seen, having feared, did prepare an ark to the salvation of his house, through which he did condemn the world, and of the righteousness according to faith he became heir.

⁹ by faith he did sojourn in the land of the promise as a strange country, in tabernacles having dwelt with Isaac and Jacob, fellow-heirs of the same promise,

⁵ Hearken, my brethren beloved, did not God choose the poor of this world, rich in faith, and heirs of the reign that He promised to those loving Him?

⁷ The husbands, in like manner, dwelling with them, according to knowledge, as to a weaker vessel -- to the wife -- imparting honour, as also being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers be not hindered.

²⁴ 'Verily, verily, I say to you -- He who is hearing my word, and is believing Him who sent me, has life age-during, and to judgment he does not come, but has passed out of the death to the life.

⁴⁴ And Jesus cried and said, 'He who is believing in me, does not believe in me, but in Him who sent me;

¹⁵ and they said unto her, 'You are mad;' and she was confidently affirming it to be so, and they said, 'It is his messenger;'

¹³ And having the same spirit of the faith, according to that which has been written, 'I believed, therefore I did speak;' we also do believe, therefore also do we speak;

¹² because the ministration of this service not only is supplying the wants of the saints, but is also abounding through many thanksgivings to God, ¹³ through the proof of this ministration glorifying God for the subjection of your confession to the good news of the Christ, and for the liberality of the fellowship to them and to all, ¹⁴ and by their supplication in your behalf, longing after you because of the exceeding grace of God upon you; ¹⁵ thanks also to God for His unspeakable gift!

¹⁵ stedfast is the word, and of all acceptation worthy, that Christ Jesus came to the world to save sinners -- first of whom I am;

⁹ holding -- according to the teaching -- to the stedfast word, that he may be able also to exhort in the sound teaching, and the gainsayers to convict;

¹ Remind them to be subject to principalities and authorities, to obey rule, unto every good work to be ready,

¹¹ who once was to you unprofitable, and now is profitable to me and to you,

²¹ who through him do believe in God, who did raise out of the dead, and glory to him did give, so that your faith and hope may be in God.

¹⁰ He who is believing in the Son of God, has the testimony in himself; he who is not believing God, a liar has made Him, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has testified concerning His Son; ¹¹ and this is the testimony, that life age-during did God give to us, and this -- the life -- is in His Son; ¹² he who is having the Son, has the life; he who is not having the Son of God -- the life he has not. ¹³ These things I did write to you who are believing in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that life you have age-during, and that you may believe in the name of the Son of God.

¹ And concerning the things sacrificed to idols, we have known that we all have knowledge: knowledge puffs up, but love builds up;

² and if I have prophecy, and know all the secrets, and all the knowledge, and if I have all the faith, so as to remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing;

³ according as I did exhort you to remain in Ephesus -- I going on to Macedonia -- that you might charge certain not to teach any other thing, ⁴ nor to give heed to fables and endless genealogies, that cause questions rather than the building up of God that is in faith: -- ⁵ And the end of the charge is love out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned, ⁶ from which certain, having swerved, did turn aside to vain discourse, ⁷ willing to be teachers of law, not understanding either the things they say, nor concerning what they asseverate,

⁷ and the profane and old women's fables reject you, and exercise yourself unto piety,

¹⁴ These things remind them of, testifying fully before the Lord -- not to strive about words to nothing profitable, but to the subversion of those hearing;

¹⁶ and the profane vain talkings stand aloof from, for to more impiety they will advance,

²³ and the foolish and uninstructed questions be avoiding, having known that they beget strife,

¹⁴ not giving heed to Jewish fables and commands of men, turning themselves away from the truth;

¹⁵ 'And if your brother may sin against you, go and show him his fault between you and him alone, if he may hear you, you did gain your brother; ¹⁶ and if he may not hear, take with you yet one or two, that by the mouth of two witnesses or three every word may stand. ¹⁷ 'And if he may not hear them, say it to the assembly, and if also the assembly he may not hear, let him be to you as the heathen man and the tax-gatherer.

¹⁷ And I call upon you, brethren, to mark those who the divisions and the stumbling-blocks, contrary to the teaching that you did learn, are causing, and turn you away from them;

⁴ in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ -- you being gathered together, also my spirit -- with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, ⁵ to deliver up such a one to the Adversary for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. ⁶ Not good is your glorying; have you not known that a little leaven the whole lump does leaven? ⁷ cleanse out, therefore, the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, according as you are unleavened, for also our passover for us was sacrificed -- Christ, ⁸ so that we may keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of evil and wickedness, but with unleavened food of sincerity and truth. ⁹ I did write to you in the epistle, not to keep company with whoremongers -- ¹⁰ and not certainly with the whoremongers of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, seeing you ought then to go forth out of the world -- ¹¹ and now, I did write to you not to keep company with him, if any one, being named a brother, may be a whoremonger, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner -- with such a one not even to eat together; ¹² for what have I also those without to judge? those within do you not judge? ¹³ and those without God does judge; and put you away the evil from among yourselves.

¹⁹ for it behooves sects also to be among you, that those approved may become manifest among you;

² I have said before, and I say it before, as being present, the second time, and being absent, now, do I write to those having sinned before, and to all the rest, that if I come again, I will not spare,

¹² O that even they would cut themselves off who are unsettling you!

²⁰ idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, strifes, emulations, wraths, rivalries, dissensions, sects,

⁶ And we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to withdraw yourselves from every brother disorderly walking, and not after the deliverance that you received from us,

¹⁴ and if any one do not obey our word through the letter, this one note you, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed,

⁵ having a form\'7bsemblance\'7d of piety, and its power having denied; and from these be turning away,

¹ And there did come also false prophets among the people, as also among you there shall be false teachers, who shall bring in besides destructive sects, and the Master who bought them denying, bringing to themselves quick destruction,

¹⁰ if any one does come unto you, and this teaching does not bear, receive him not into the house, and say not to him, 'Hail!'

²⁶ 'And his lord answering said to him, Evil servant, and slothful, you hadst known that I reap where I did not sow, and I gather from where I did not scatter! ²⁷ It behoved you then to put my money to the money-lenders, and having come I had received mine own with increase. ²⁸ 'Take therefore from him the talent, and give to him having the ten talents,

³⁰ but the Pharisees, and the lawyers, the counsel of God did put away for themselves, not having been baptized by him.

²² 'And he said to him, Out of your mouth I will judge you, evil servant: you knew that I am an austere man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow!

¹⁸ he who is believing in him is not judged, but he who is not believing has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

⁴⁶ And speaking boldly, Paul and Barnabas said, 'To you it was necessary that first the word of God be spoken, and seeing you do thrust it away, and do not judge yourselves worthy of the life age-during, lo, we do turn to the nations;

²⁴ seeing we have heard that certain having gone forth from us did trouble you with words, subverting your souls, saying to be circumcised and to keep the law, to whom we did give no charge,

¹⁹ And we have known that as many things as the law says, to those in the law it does speak, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may come under judgment to God;

¹⁹ having faith and a good conscience, which certain having thrust away, concerning the faith did make shipwreck, ²⁰ of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I did deliver to the Adversary, that they might be instructed not to speak evil.

¹¹ whose mouth it benefits to stop, who whole households do overturn, teaching what things it benefits not, for filthy lucre's sake.

²⁶ For we -- willfully sinning after the receiving the full knowledge of the truth -- no more for sins does there remain a sacrifice,

⁴ And there were accompanying him unto Asia, Sopater of Berea, and of Thessalonians Aristarchus and Secundus, and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus, and of Asiatics Tychicus and Trophimus;

⁶ and with you, it may be, I will abide, or even winter, that you may send me forward whithersoever I go,

⁸ and I will remain in Ephesus till the Pentecost, ⁹ for a door to me has been opened -- great and effectual -- and withstanders are many.

⁹ Be diligent to come unto me quickly,

¹² and Tychicus I sent to Ephesus;

²¹ be diligent to come before winter. Salute you does Eubulus, and Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia, and all the brethren.

³⁵ and one of them, a lawyer, did question, tempting him, and saying,

²⁵ And lo, a certain lawyer stood up, trying him, and saying, 'Teacher, what having done, life age-during shall I inherit?'

⁴⁵ And one of the lawyers answering, said to him, 'Teacher, these things saying, us also you do insult;'

⁵² 'Woo to you, the lawyers, because you took away the key of the knowledge; yourselves you did not enter; and those coming in, you did hinder.'

³ and Jesus answering spake to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, 'Is it lawful on the sabbath-day to heal?'

²⁴ And a certain Jew, Apollos by name, an Alexandrian by birth, a man of eloquence, being mighty in the Writings, came to Ephesus,

⁵ but when it came that we completed the days, having gone forth, we went on, all bringing us on the way, with women and children, unto the outside of the city, and having bowed the knees upon the shore, we prayed,

¹⁰ who also with many honours did honour us, and we setting sail -- they were lading us with the things that were necessary.

²⁴ when I may go on to Spain I will come unto you, for I hope in going through, to see you, and by you to be set forward thither, if of you first, in part, I shall be filled.

¹¹ no one, then, may despise him; and send you him forward in peace, that he may come to me, for I expect him with the brethren;

⁶ who did testify of your love before an assembly, whom you will do well, having sent forward worthily of God, ⁷ because for His name they went forth, nothing receiving from the nations; ⁸ we, then, ought to receive such, that fellow-workers we may become to the truth.

¹⁹ Every tree not yielding good fruit is cut down and is cast to fire:

¹⁹ and having seen a certain fig-tree on the way, he came to it, and found nothing in it except leaves only, and he said to it, 'No more from you may fruit be -- to the age;' and forthwith the fig-tree withered.

⁶ And he spake this simile: 'A certain one had a fig-tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit in it, and he did not find; ⁷ and he said unto the vine-dresser, Lo, three years I come seeking fruit in this fig-tree, and do not find, cut it off, why also the ground does it render useless? ⁸ 'And he answering said to him, Sir, suffer it also this year, till that I may dig about it, and cast in dung; ⁹ and if indeed it may bear fruit --; and if not so, thereafter you shall cut it off.'

⁸ 'In this was my Father glorified, that you may bear much fruit, and you shall become my disciples.

¹⁶ 'You did not choose out me, but I chose out you, and did appoint you, that you might go away, and might bear fruit, and your fruit might remain, that whatever you may ask of the Father in my name, He may give you.

³ and because of being of the same craft, he did remain with them, and was working, for they were tent-makers as to craft;

³⁵ all things I did show you, that, thus labouring, it behooves us to partake with the ailing, to be mindful also of the words of the Lord Jesus, that he himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.'

²⁸ This, then, having finished, and having sealed to them this fruit, I will return through you, to Spain;

²⁸ whosoever is stealing let him no more steal, but rather let him labour, working the thing that is good with the hands, that he may have to impart\'7bgive\'7d to him having need.

¹⁷ not that I seek after the gift, but I seek after the fruit that is overflowing to your account;

⁹ for you remember, brethren, our labour and travail, for, night and day working not to be a burden upon any of you, we did preach to you the good news of God;

⁸ nor for nought did we eat bread of any one, but in labour and in travail, night and day working, not to be chargeable to any of you;

⁶ and having fallen away, again to renew them to reformation, having crucified again to themselves the Son of God, and exposed to public shame. ⁷ For earth, that is drinking in the rain many times coming upon it, and is bringing forth herbs fit for those because of whom also it is dressed, does partake of blessing from God, ⁸ and that which is bearing thorns and briers is disapproved of, and near to cursing, whose end is for burning; ⁹ and we are persuaded, concerning you, beloved, the things that are better, and accompanying salvation, though even thus we speak, ¹⁰ for God is not unrighteous to forget your work, and the labour of the love, that you showed to His name, having ministered to the saints and ministering; ¹¹ and we desire each one of you the same diligence to show, unto the full assurance of the hope unto the end, ¹² that you may not become slothful, but followers of those who through faith and patient endurance are inheriting the promises.

⁸ for these things being to you and abounding, do make you neither inert nor unfruitful in regard to the acknowledging of our Lord Jesus Christ,

¹ And I commend you to Phebe our sister -- being a ministrant of the assembly that is in Cenchrea -- ² that you may receive her in the Lord, as does become saints, and may assist her in whatever matter she may have need of you -- for she also became a leader of many, and of myself. ³ Salute Priscilla and Aquilas, my fellow-workmen in Christ Jesus -- ⁴ who for my life their own neck did lay down, to whom not only I give thanks, but also all the assemblies of the nations -- ⁵ and the assembly at their house; salute Epaenetus, my beloved, who is first-fruit of Achaia to Christ. ⁶ Salute Mary, who did labour much for us; ⁷ salute Andronicus and Junias, my kindred, and my fellow-captives, who are of note among the apostles, who also have been in Christ before me. ⁸ Salute Amplias, my beloved in the Lord; ⁹ salute Arbanus, our fellow-workman in Christ, and Stachys, my beloved; ¹⁰ salute Apelles, the approved in Christ; salute those of the household of Aristobulus; ¹¹ salute Herodion, my kinsman; salute those of the household of Narcissus, who are in the Lord; ¹² salute Tryphaena, and Tryphosa, who are labouring in the Lord; salute Persis, the beloved, who did labour much in the Lord. ¹³ Salute Rufus, the choice one in the Lord, and his mother and mine, ¹⁴ salute Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermas, Patrobas, Hermes, and the brethren with them; ¹⁵ salute Philologus, and Julias, Nereus, and his sister, and Olympas, and all the saints with them; ¹⁶ salute one another in a holy kiss; the assemblies of Christ do salute you. ¹⁷ And I call upon you, brethren, to mark those who the divisions and the stumbling-blocks, contrary to the teaching that you did learn, are causing, and turn you away from them; ¹⁸ for such our Lord Jesus Christ do not serve, but their own belly; and through the good word and fair speech they deceive the hearts of the harmless, ¹⁹ for your obedience did reach to all; I rejoice, therefore, as regards you, and I wish you to be wise, indeed, as to the good, and harmless as to the evil; ²⁰ and the God of the peace shall bruise the Adversary under your feet quickly; the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen! ²¹ Salute you do Timotheus, my fellow-workman, and Lucius, and Jason, and Sosipater, my kindred; ²² I Tertius salute you (who wrote the letter) in the Lord; ²³ salute you does Gaius, my host, and of the whole assembly; salute you does Erastus, the steward of the city, and Quartus the brother,

²³ The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ is with you;

⁶ for in Christ Jesus neither circumcision avails anything, nor uncircumcision, but faith through love working.

²³ Peace to the brethren, and love, with faith, from God the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ! ²⁴ The grace with all those loving our Lord Jesus Christ -- undecayingly! Amen.

¹⁸ The salutation by the hand of me, Paul; remember my bonds; the grace is with you. Amen.

² to Timothy -- genuine child in faith: Grace, kindness, peace, from God our Father, and Christ Jesus our Lord,

⁵ And the end of the charge is love out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned,

²² The Lord Jesus Christ is with your spirit; the grace is with you! Amen.

⁵ hearing of your love and faith that you have unto the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints,

²⁵ the grace is with you all! Amen.

¹ The Elder to the choice Kyria, and to her children, whom I love in truth, and not I only, but also all those having known the truth, ² because of the truth that is remaining in us, and with us shall be to the age,
