1 John 2:7 Cross References - Riverside

7 Beloved, I am not writing a new command for you, but an old command, which you have had from the beginning. The old command is the message that you have heard.

Matthew 5:43

43 "You have heard that it was said, 'Thou shalt love thy neighbor and hate thine enemy.'

Matthew 22:37-40

37 Jesus said to him, " 'Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy mind.' 38 This is the greatest and first commandment. 39 The second is like it, 'Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.' 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."

Mark 12:29-34

29 Jesus answered, "The first is, 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord, 30 and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy mind and with all thy strength.' 31 This is the second, 'Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." 32 The scribe said to him, "Right, teacher; you have said truly that he is one and there is no other beside him, 33 and to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength and to love one's neighbor as one's self is more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices." 34 Jesus, seeing that he had answered with intelligence, said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." After that no one dared question him further.

Acts 17:19

19 They took him and led him up on to the Areopagus, saying, "May we know what this new doctrine that you are speaking of is?

Romans 13:8-10

8 Owe no one anything, except to love one another. He who loves the other has fulfilled the Law. 9 For the commandments, "Thou shalt not commit adultery," "Thou shalt not commit murder," "Thou shalt not steal," "Thou shalt not covet," and any other that there may be, are summed up in this: "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." 10 Love works no evil to a neighbor. Love therefore is full obedience to the Law.

Galatians 5:13-14

13 For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not let your freedom be an opportunity for the flesh, but in love be servants to one another. 14 For the whole Law is summed up in one word: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

James 2:8-12

8 If you keep the royal law according to the Scripture, "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself," you do well. 9 But if you have partiality, you commit sin and are convicted by the law as law-breakers. 10 For he who keeps the whole law, but stumbles in one point, has become guilty of all. 11 For he who said, "Thou shalt not commit adultery," said also, "Thou shalt not commit murder." If you do not commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a law-breaker. 12 So speak and so act as those who are soon to be judged by a law of liberty.

1 John 2:24

24 Let what you have heard from the beginning remain in you. If what you have heard from the beginning remains in you, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.

1 John 3:11

11 For this is the message which you have heard from the beginning, that we must love one another.

1 John 3:23

23 And this is his command — to believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another as he has given us command.

2 John 1:5-6

5 And now I pray you, Lady, not as if writing a new command for you, but one that we have had from the beginning, let us love one another. 6 This is love: to live by his commands. This is the command, as you heard from the beginning that you must live by it.
