¹ AFTER five days the High Priest Ananias came down with certain elders and an advocate named Tertullus, and they spoke against Paul to the Governor.

¹⁵ against whom when I was in Jerusalem the high priests and the elders of the Jews had much to say, asking to have him condemned.

¹² All have turned away; together they have become worthless; there is none who does what is useful, not even one. ¹³ Their throat is an open sepulcher; with their tongues they deceive; the poison of asps is under their lips. ¹⁴ Their mouth is full of cursing and bitterness; ¹⁵ their feet are swift to shed blood; ¹⁶ ruin and misery are in their paths. ¹⁷ The path of peace they do not know. ¹⁸ There is no reverence for God before their eyes." ¹⁹ We know that all that the Law says, it says to those who are under the Law, that every mouth may be shut and all the world may come under the condemnation of God.
