⁴⁸ He saw them distressed in rowing, for the wind was against them. About the fourth watch of the night, he came to them walking on the lake and he seemed to be going past them. ⁴⁹ But when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought that it was a ghost and cried out. ⁵⁰ For they all saw him and were frightened. But he immediately spoke to them and said, "Courage! It is I. Do not be afraid." ⁵¹ Then he got into the boat with them and the wind dropped. They were in boundless amazement;

²⁴ Coming to him, they awoke him, saying, "Master, Master, we are going down!" He awoke and rebuked the wind and the waves. They grew quiet and there was a calm. ²⁵ He said to the disciples, "Where is your faith?" They were awed and amazed, and said to one another, "Who then is this man who commands the winds and the water and they obey him?"
